The abbot of our temple said, "Our country's Buddhist scriptures were originally obtained from Tianzhu, and now they are transferred from the upper kingdom.东土取经，那是莫大的因缘，我们得以上报佛恩，少林寺深感荣幸。方丈师兄当即亲自陪同波罗星师兄前赴藏经楼，说道本寺藏经甚是齐备，源自天竺的经律论三藏译文，以及东土支那高僧大德的撰述，不下七千余卷，梵文原本亦复不少。若有复本，波罗星师兄尽可取去一部，倘若只有孤本的，本寺派出三十名僧人帮同钞录副本。方丈师兄又道，此去天竺路途遥远，经卷繁多，途中恐有失散。波罗星师兄取经回国之时，敝寺当派十名僧众，随同护送，务令全部经典平安返抵佛国。” 普渡寺道清大师合十道：“善哉，善哉！方丈师兄此举真是莫大的功德，可与当年鸠摩罗什大师、玄奘大师先后辉映。” 玄慈欠身道：“敝寺此举是应有之义，师兄赞叹，愧不敢当。” 玄寂续道：“这位波罗星师兄便在藏经楼翻阅经卷。本寺玄惭师兄奉方丈师兄之命，督率僧众帮同钞经，不敢稍有怠懈。岂知四个月之后，玄惭师兄竟然发觉，这位波罗星师兄每晚深夜，悄悄潜入藏经楼秘阁，偷阅本寺所藏的武功秘笈。” 观心、道清、觉贤、融智四僧不约而同的都惊噫一声。 玄寂续道：“玄惭师兄禀告方丈师兄。方丈师兄便向波罗星师兄劝谕，说道这些武功秘笈是本寺历代高僧所撰，既非天竺传来，亦与佛法全无干系，本寺数百年来规矩，不能泄示于外人。波罗星师兄既已看了一部分，那也罢了，此后请他不可再去秘阁。波罗星师兄一口答允，又连声致歉，说道不知少林寺的规矩，此后决不再去偷看武功秘笈。哪知道过得几个月，波罗星师兄假装生病，却偷偷挖掘地道，又去秘阁偷阅。待得玄惭师兄发觉，已是在数年之后，波罗星师兄已偷阅了不少本寺的武学珍典，玄惭师兄出手阻止，交手之下，更察觉波罗星师兄不但偷阅本寺武功秘笈，更已学了本寺七十二项绝技中的三项武功。” 观心等四僧都是“哦”的一声，同时瞧向哲罗星，眼色中都露出责备之意。 玄寂向神山瞧了一眼，说道：“方丈师兄当下召集玄字辈的诸位师兄会商，大家都说，我少林派武功虽然平平无奇，但列祖列宗的规矩，非本派弟子不传。武林中千百年的规矩，偷学别派武功，实是大忌。何况我中土武功传到了天竺，说不定后患无穷。这位波罗星师兄的所作所为，决非佛门弟子的清净梵行，说不定他并非释家比丘，却是外道邪徒，此举不但于我少林派不利，于中土武林不利，而且也于天竺佛门不利。当下众位师兄弟提出诸般主张。方丈师兄言道：我佛慈悲为怀，这位波罗星师兄的真正来历，咱们无法查知，就算是外道邪徒，也不便太过严厉对付，还是请他长自驻锡本寺，受佛法熏陶，一来盼望他终于能够开悟证道，二来也免得种种后患。几年来敝寺对这位波罗星师兄好好供养，除了请他不必离寺之外，不敢丝毫失了恭敬之意。” 观心等四僧微微点头。神山却道：“这位玄寂师兄的话，只是少林寺的一面之词，真相到底如何，我们谁也不知。但少林寺将这位天竺高僧扣押在寺，七年不放，总是实情。老衲听这位哲罗星师兄言道，他在天竺数年不得师弟音讯，放心不下，派了两名弟子前来少林寺探问，少林寺却不许他们和波罗星师兄相见，此事可是有的？” 玄慈点头道：“不错。波罗星师兄既已偷学了敝寺的武功，敝寺势不能任由他将武功转告旁人。” 神山哈哈一笑，声震屋瓦，连殿上的大钟也嗡嗡作声，良久不绝。 玄慈见他神色傲慢，却也不怒，说道：“师兄，老衲有一事不明，敬请师兄指教。倘若有外人来到五台山清凉寺，偷阅了贵寺的《伏虎拳拳谱》、《五十一招伏魔剑》的剑经，以及《心意气混元功》和《普门杖法》的秘奥，师兄如何处置？” 神山上人微笑道：“武功高下，全凭各人修为，拳经剑谱之类，实属次要。要是有哪一位英雄好汉能来到清凉寺中，盗去了敝寺的拳经剑谱，老衲除了自认无能，更有什么话说？难道人家瞧一瞧你的武学法门，还能要人家性命么？还能将人家关上一世吗？嘿嘿，那也太过岂有此理了。” 玄慈也是微微一笑，说道：“倘若这些武功典籍平平无奇，公之于世又有何碍？但贵派的拳经剑谱内容精微，武林中素所钦仰，要是给旁人盗去传之于外，辗转落入狂妄自大、心胸狭窄之辈手中，那未免贻患无穷，决非武林之福。”这几句话仍是意语平和，但“狂妄自大，心胸狭窄”八字评语，显然是指神山上人而言。各人都听了出来，玄慈简直是明斥神山居心叵测，所以来索波罗星，主旨在于自己想看看少林派的武功秘笈。 神山一听，登时脸上变色，玄慈这几句话，正是说中了他的心事。
当年神山上人到少林寺求师，还只一十七岁。少林寺方丈灵门禅师和他接谈之下，便觉他锋芒太露，我慢贡高之气极盛，器小易盈，不是传法之人，若在寺中做个寻常僧侣，他又必不能甘居人下，日后定生事端，是以婉言相拒。神山这才投到清凉寺中，只三十岁时便技盖全寺，做了清凉寺的方丈。神山上人天资颖悟，识见卓超，可算得是武林中的奇才，只是清凉寺的武学渊源远逊于少林，寺中所藏的拳经剑谱、内功秘要等等，不但为数有限，而且大部分粗疏简陋，不是第一流功夫。四十多年来他内功日深，早已远远超过清凉寺上代所传的武学典籍中所载，但拳剑功夫，终究有所不足，每当想起少林派的七十二项绝技，总不自禁又是艳羡，又是恼恨。 这一日事有凑巧，他师弟神音引了一名天竺胡僧来到清凉寺，那胡僧便是哲罗星。 哲罗星倒确是佛门弟子，在天竺算得是武学中的一流高手，与人动手，受了挫折，想起素闻东土少林寺有七十二项绝技，便心生一计，派遣记心奇佳的师弟波罗星来到少林，以求经为名，企图盗取武功绝技。不料波罗星行径为人揭破，被少林寺扣留不放。哲罗星派遣弟子前来少林探问，也不得与波罗星相见，于是哲罗星亲自东来，只盼能接回师弟，少林绝技既然盗不成，也只有罢手了。 他来到东土后，径向少林寺进发，途中遇到一个老僧，手持精钢禅杖，不住向他打量。哲罗星不明东土武林情状，只道凡是会武功的僧人便是少林僧，一见便心中有气，便喝令老僧让道，言词极是无礼。那老僧反唇相讥，三言两语，便即斗了起来。斗了一个多时辰，兀自不分高下，两人内功各有所长，兵刃上也是互相克制，谁也胜不了谁。 又斗良久，天已昏黑，那老僧喝令罢斗，说道：“兀那番僧，你武功甚高，只可惜脾气太也暴躁，忒少涵养。”哲罗星道：“你我半斤七两，你的脾气难道好了？”他的华语学得不甚到家，本想说“半斤八两”，却说成了“半斤七两”。那老僧甚奇，问道：“什么叫做'半斤七两'？”哲罗星脸上一红，道：“啊，我说错了，是八斤半两。” 那老僧哈哈大笑，道：“我教你罢，是半斤八两。这样寻常的话也说不上，我们的中国话，你还得好好学几年再说不迟。”哲罗星道：“知之为知之，不知为不知，是知也。”那老僧笑道：“嘿嘿，书袋你倒会掉，却不知半斤乃是八两。”哲罗星、波罗星师兄弟一意到中土盗取武功秘诀，读了不少中国书，所知的华语都是来自书本子的，于“半斤八两”这些俗语反而一知半解，记不清楚。 两僧打了半天，都已有惺惺相惜之意，言笑之间，互通姓名。那老僧便是清凉寺方丈神山的师弟神音。哲罗星得知他不是少林寺的，更加全无嫌隙。神音问道他东来的原由。哲罗星便说师弟来到中土，往少林寺挂单，不知何故，竟为少林寺扣留不放。神音一来好事，二来对少林寺的威名远扬本就心中不服，三来要在这位新交的朋友之前逞逞威风，便道：“我师兄神山武功天下无敌，从来就没将少林寺瞧在眼里。我带你去见我师兄，定有法子救你师弟出来。”当下神音将哲罗星带到清凉寺去，会见了神山。 神山心想少林寺方丈玄慈为人宽和，好端端地为什么扣留波罗星，其中定有重大缘由，当下善加款待，慢慢套问，不到半个月，便将哲罗星心中隐藏的言语套了出来，只不过他咬定说想取佛经，用以在天竺弘扬佛法。 神山寻思：“波罗星去少林寺，志在盗经，如在刚盗到手时便被发觉，少林寺也不过将原经夺回，不致再加难为。现下将他扣留不放，定是他不但盗到了手，而且已记熟于心。再说，这番僧所盗的若是经论佛典，少林寺非但不会干预，反而会慎择善本，欣然相赠。所以将他监留于寺，七年不放，定然他所盗的不是佛经，而是武学秘笈。”一想到“少林寺的武学秘笈”，不由得心痒难搔。数日筹思，打定了主意：“我去代他出头，将波罗星索来。少林寺中高手虽多，但天下之事，抬不过一个理去。少林派是武林领袖，又是佛门弟子，难道真能逞强压人么？只要波罗星到手，不愁他不吐露少林寺的武学秘要。” 当下派遣弟子持了自己名帖，邀请开封大相国寺观心大师、江南普渡寺道清大师、庐山东林寺觉贤大师、长安净影寺融智大师，随同神音和哲罗星，一同到少林寺来。邀请这四位武林中大有名望的高僧到场，是要少林寺碍于佛门与武林中的清议，非讲理放人不可。

The abbot of our temple said, "Our country's Buddhist scriptures were originally obtained from Tianzhu, and now they are transferred from the upper kingdom.东土取经，那是莫大的因缘，我们得以上报佛恩，少林寺深感荣幸。方丈师兄当即亲自陪同波罗星师兄前赴藏经楼，说道本寺藏经甚是齐备，源自天竺的经律论三藏译文，以及东土支那高僧大德的撰述，不下七千余卷，梵文原本亦复不少。若有复本，波罗星师兄尽可取去一部，倘若只有孤本的，本寺派出三十名僧人帮同钞录副本。方丈师兄又道，此去天竺路途遥远，经卷繁多，途中恐有失散。波罗星师兄取经回国之时，敝寺当派十名僧众，随同护送，务令全部经典平安返抵佛国。” 普渡寺道清大师合十道：“善哉，善哉！方丈师兄此举真是莫大的功德，可与当年鸠摩罗什大师、玄奘大师先后辉映。” 玄慈欠身道：“敝寺此举是应有之义，师兄赞叹，愧不敢当。” 玄寂续道：“这位波罗星师兄便在藏经楼翻阅经卷。本寺玄惭师兄奉方丈师兄之命，督率僧众帮同钞经，不敢稍有怠懈。岂知四个月之后，玄惭师兄竟然发觉，这位波罗星师兄每晚深夜，悄悄潜入藏经楼秘阁，偷阅本寺所藏的武功秘笈。” 观心、道清、觉贤、融智四僧不约而同的都惊噫一声。 玄寂续道：“玄惭师兄禀告方丈师兄。方丈师兄便向波罗星师兄劝谕，说道这些武功秘笈是本寺历代高僧所撰，既非天竺传来，亦与佛法全无干系，本寺数百年来规矩，不能泄示于外人。波罗星师兄既已看了一部分，那也罢了，此后请他不可再去秘阁。波罗星师兄一口答允，又连声致歉，说道不知少林寺的规矩，此后决不再去偷看武功秘笈。哪知道过得几个月，波罗星师兄假装生病，却偷偷挖掘地道，又去秘阁偷阅。待得玄惭师兄发觉，已是在数年之后，波罗星师兄已偷阅了不少本寺的武学珍典，玄惭师兄出手阻止，交手之下，更察觉波罗星师兄不但偷阅本寺武功秘笈，更已学了本寺七十二项绝技中的三项武功。” 观心等四僧都是“哦”的一声，同时瞧向哲罗星，眼色中都露出责备之意。 玄寂向神山瞧了一眼，说道：“方丈师兄当下召集玄字辈的诸位师兄会商，大家都说，我少林派武功虽然平平无奇，但列祖列宗的规矩，非本派弟子不传。武林中千百年的规矩，偷学别派武功，实是大忌。何况我中土武功传到了天竺，说不定后患无穷。这位波罗星师兄的所作所为，决非佛门弟子的清净梵行，说不定他并非释家比丘，却是外道邪徒，此举不但于我少林派不利，于中土武林不利，而且也于天竺佛门不利。当下众位师兄弟提出诸般主张。方丈师兄言道：我佛慈悲为怀，这位波罗星师兄的真正来历，咱们无法查知，就算是外道邪徒，也不便太过严厉对付，还是请他长自驻锡本寺，受佛法熏陶，一来盼望他终于能够开悟证道，二来也免得种种后患。几年来敝寺对这位波罗星师兄好好供养，除了请他不必离寺之外，不敢丝毫失了恭敬之意。” 观心等四僧微微点头。神山却道：“这位玄寂师兄的话，只是少林寺的一面之词，真相到底如何，我们谁也不知。但少林寺将这位天竺高僧扣押在寺，七年不放，总是实情。老衲听这位哲罗星师兄言道，他在天竺数年不得师弟音讯，放心不下，派了两名弟子前来少林寺探问，少林寺却不许他们和波罗星师兄相见，此事可是有的？” 玄慈点头道：“不错。波罗星师兄既已偷学了敝寺的武功，敝寺势不能任由他将武功转告旁人。” 神山哈哈一笑，声震屋瓦，连殿上的大钟也嗡嗡作声，良久不绝。 玄慈见他神色傲慢，却也不怒，说道：“师兄，老衲有一事不明，敬请师兄指教。倘若有外人来到五台山清凉寺，偷阅了贵寺的《伏虎拳拳谱》、《五十一招伏魔剑》的剑经，以及《心意气混元功》和《普门杖法》的秘奥，师兄如何处置？” 神山上人微笑道：“武功高下，全凭各人修为，拳经剑谱之类，实属次要。要是有哪一位英雄好汉能来到清凉寺中，盗去了敝寺的拳经剑谱，老衲除了自认无能，更有什么话说？难道人家瞧一瞧你的武学法门，还能要人家性命么？还能将人家关上一世吗？嘿嘿，那也太过岂有此理了。” 玄慈也是微微一笑，说道：“倘若这些武功典籍平平无奇，公之于世又有何碍？但贵派的拳经剑谱内容精微，武林中素所钦仰，要是给旁人盗去传之于外，辗转落入狂妄自大、心胸狭窄之辈手中，那未免贻患无穷，决非武林之福。”这几句话仍是意语平和，但“狂妄自大，心胸狭窄”八字评语，显然是指神山上人而言。各人都听了出来，玄慈简直是明斥神山居心叵测，所以来索波罗星，主旨在于自己想看看少林派的武功秘笈。 神山一听，登时脸上变色，玄慈这几句话，正是说中了他的心事。
当年神山上人到少林寺求师，还只一十七岁。少林寺方丈灵门禅师和他接谈之下，便觉他锋芒太露，我慢贡高之气极盛，器小易盈，不是传法之人，若在寺中做个寻常僧侣，他又必不能甘居人下，日后定生事端，是以婉言相拒。神山这才投到清凉寺中，只三十岁时便技盖全寺，做了清凉寺的方丈。神山上人天资颖悟，识见卓超，可算得是武林中的奇才，只是清凉寺的武学渊源远逊于少林，寺中所藏的拳经剑谱、内功秘要等等，不但为数有限，而且大部分粗疏简陋，不是第一流功夫。四十多年来他内功日深，早已远远超过清凉寺上代所传的武学典籍中所载，但拳剑功夫，终究有所不足，每当想起少林派的七十二项绝技，总不自禁又是艳羡，又是恼恨。 这一日事有凑巧，他师弟神音引了一名天竺胡僧来到清凉寺，那胡僧便是哲罗星。 哲罗星倒确是佛门弟子，在天竺算得是武学中的一流高手，与人动手，受了挫折，想起素闻东土少林寺有七十二项绝技，便心生一计，派遣记心奇佳的师弟波罗星来到少林，以求经为名，企图盗取武功绝技。不料波罗星行径为人揭破，被少林寺扣留不放。哲罗星派遣弟子前来少林探问，也不得与波罗星相见，于是哲罗星亲自东来，只盼能接回师弟，少林绝技既然盗不成，也只有罢手了。 他来到东土后，径向少林寺进发，途中遇到一个老僧，手持精钢禅杖，不住向他打量。哲罗星不明东土武林情状，只道凡是会武功的僧人便是少林僧，一见便心中有气，便喝令老僧让道，言词极是无礼。那老僧反唇相讥，三言两语，便即斗了起来。斗了一个多时辰，兀自不分高下，两人内功各有所长，兵刃上也是互相克制，谁也胜不了谁。 又斗良久，天已昏黑，那老僧喝令罢斗，说道：“兀那番僧，你武功甚高，只可惜脾气太也暴躁，忒少涵养。”哲罗星道：“你我半斤七两，你的脾气难道好了？”他的华语学得不甚到家，本想说“半斤八两”，却说成了“半斤七两”。那老僧甚奇，问道：“什么叫做'半斤七两'？”哲罗星脸上一红，道：“啊，我说错了，是八斤半两。” 那老僧哈哈大笑，道：“我教你罢，是半斤八两。这样寻常的话也说不上，我们的中国话，你还得好好学几年再说不迟。”哲罗星道：“知之为知之，不知为不知，是知也。”那老僧笑道：“嘿嘿，书袋你倒会掉，却不知半斤乃是八两。”哲罗星、波罗星师兄弟一意到中土盗取武功秘诀，读了不少中国书，所知的华语都是来自书本子的，于“半斤八两”这些俗语反而一知半解，记不清楚。 两僧打了半天，都已有惺惺相惜之意，言笑之间，互通姓名。那老僧便是清凉寺方丈神山的师弟神音。哲罗星得知他不是少林寺的，更加全无嫌隙。神音问道他东来的原由。哲罗星便说师弟来到中土，往少林寺挂单，不知何故，竟为少林寺扣留不放。神音一来好事，二来对少林寺的威名远扬本就心中不服，三来要在这位新交的朋友之前逞逞威风，便道：“我师兄神山武功天下无敌，从来就没将少林寺瞧在眼里。我带你去见我师兄，定有法子救你师弟出来。”当下神音将哲罗星带到清凉寺去，会见了神山。 神山心想少林寺方丈玄慈为人宽和，好端端地为什么扣留波罗星，其中定有重大缘由，当下善加款待，慢慢套问，不到半个月，便将哲罗星心中隐藏的言语套了出来，只不过他咬定说想取佛经，用以在天竺弘扬佛法。 神山寻思：“波罗星去少林寺，志在盗经，如在刚盗到手时便被发觉，少林寺也不过将原经夺回，不致再加难为。现下将他扣留不放，定是他不但盗到了手，而且已记熟于心。再说，这番僧所盗的若是经论佛典，少林寺非但不会干预，反而会慎择善本，欣然相赠。所以将他监留于寺，七年不放，定然他所盗的不是佛经，而是武学秘笈。”一想到“少林寺的武学秘笈”，不由得心痒难搔。数日筹思，打定了主意：“我去代他出头，将波罗星索来。少林寺中高手虽多，但天下之事，抬不过一个理去。少林派是武林领袖，又是佛门弟子，难道真能逞强压人么？只要波罗星到手，不愁他不吐露少林寺的武学秘要。” 当下派遣弟子持了自己名帖，邀请开封大相国寺观心大师、江南普渡寺道清大师、庐山东林寺觉贤大师、长安净影寺融智大师，随同神音和哲罗星，一同到少林寺来。邀请这四位武林中大有名望的高僧到场，是要少林寺碍于佛门与武林中的清议，非讲理放人不可。
这时神山听得玄慈语带讥刺，勃然说道：“哲罗星师兄万里东来，难道方丈连他师兄弟相会一面，也是不许么？” 玄慈心想：“倘若坚决不许波罗星出见，反而显得少林理屈了，普渡、东林诸寺高僧也必不服。”便道：“有请波罗星师兄！” 执事僧传下话去，过不多时，四名老僧陪同波罗星走上殿来。那波罗星身形矮小，面容黝黑，他见到师兄，悲喜交集，涌身而前，抱住哲罗星，泪水潸潸而下。两人咭咭呱呱的说得又响又快，不知是天竺哪一处地方的方言土语，旁人也无法听懂，料想是波罗星述说盗经遭擒，被少林扣押不放的情由。 哲罗星和师弟说了良久，大声用华语道：“少林寺方丈说假话，波罗星没有盗武功书，只偷看佛家书。佛家书，本来是我天竺来的，看看，又不犯戒！达摩祖师，是我天竺人，他教你们武功，你们反而关住了天竺比丘，这是忘恩负……负……那个，总之是不好！” 他的华语虽不流畅，理由倒十分充分，少林僧众一时无言可驳，他抵死不认偷盗武学经籍，此时并无赃物在身，实难逼他招认。 玄慈道：“出家人不打诳语。波罗星师兄，你若说谎，不怕堕阿鼻地狱么？”波罗星道：“我决不说谎！”玄慈道：“我少林派的《大金刚拳经》，你偷看过没有？”波罗星道：“没有，我只借看一部《金刚经》。”玄慈道：“我少林派的《般若掌法》，你偷看过没有？”波罗星道：“没有，我只借看过一部《小品般若经》。”玄慈道：“那么我少林派的《摩诃指诀》，难道你也没偷看么？那日我玄惭师弟在藏经楼畔遇到你之时，你不是正偷了这部指法要诀，从藏经楼的秘阁中溜出来么？” 波罗星道：“小僧只在贵寺藏经楼借阅过一部《摩诃僧祗律》。贵国晋朝隆安三年，高僧法显来我天竺取经，得经书宝典多部，《摩诃僧祗律》即其一也。小僧借阅此书，不知犯了贵寺何等戒律？”他聪明机变，学问渊博，否则他师兄也不会派他来担任盗经的重任了，此刻侃侃道来，竟将盗阅武术秘笈之事推得干干净净，反而显得少林寺全然理亏。 玄慈眉头一皱，口宣佛号：“阿弥陀佛！”一时倒难以和他辩驳。 突然身旁风声微动，黄影闪处，一人呼的一拳向波罗星后心击去，这一拳迅速沉猛，凌厉之极。拳风所趋，正对准了波罗星后心的至阳穴要害。 这一招来得太过突然，似乎已难解救。波罗星立即双手反转，左掌贴于神道穴，右掌贴于筋缩穴，掌心向外，掌力疾吐，那神道穴是在至阳穴之上，筋缩穴在至阳穴之下，双掌掌力交织成一片屏障，刚好将至阳要穴护住，手法巧妙之极。 大雄宝殿上众高手见他这一招配合得丝丝入扣，倒似发招者故意凑合上去，要他一显身手一般，又似是同门师兄弟拆招，试演上乘掌法，忍不住都喝一声：“好掌法！” 波罗星双掌之力将那人来拳挡过，那人跟着变拳为掌，斩向波罗星的后颈。这时众人已看清偷袭之人是少林寺中一名中年僧人。这和尚变招奇速，等波罗星回头转身，右掌跟着斩下。波罗星左指挥出，削向他掌缘。那僧人若不收招，刚好将小指旁的后豁穴送到他的指尖上去，其时波罗星全身之力聚于一指，立时便能废了那僧人的手掌。这一指看似平平无奇，但部位之准，力道之凝，的是非同凡俗。又有人叫道：“好指法！” 那僧人立即收掌，双拳连环，瞬息间连出七拳。这七拳分击波罗星的额、颚、颈、肩、臂、胸、背七个部位，快得难以形容。波罗星无法闪避，也是连出七拳，但听得砰砰砰砰砰砰砰连响七下，每一拳都和那僧人的七拳相撞。他在这电光石火般的刹那之间，居然每一拳都刚好撞在敌人的来拳之上，要不是事先练熟，凭你武功再高，那也是决不可能之事。 七拳一击出，波罗星蓦地想起一件事，“啊”的一声惊呼，向后跃开。那中年僧人却也不再进击，缓缓退开三步，合十向玄慈与神山行礼，说道：“小僧无礼，恕罪则个。” 玄慈笑吟吟的合十还礼。神山脸有怒色，哼了一声。玄慈向观心、道清、觉贤、融智四僧说道：“还请四位师兄主持公道。”一时大殿之中，肃静无声。 自从神山上人提到少林寺扣押天竺僧波罗星之事，虚竹便知眼前的事与己无涉，已放了一大半心；待见一位师叔祖出手袭击而波罗星一一化解，两人拆了招之后分开，但觉攻守双方所使招数，也并不如何了不起，却不知何以本寺方丈等人颇有得色，对方却有理屈惭愧之意，他只觉得波罗星在这三招上实在半点也没有吃亏。 观心大师咳嗽一声，说道：“三位意下如何？”道清大师道：“适才波罗星师兄所使的三招，第一招似乎是《般若掌法》中的'天衣无缝'；第二招似乎是《摩诃指》的'以逸待劳'；第三招似乎是《大金刚拳》中的'七星聚会'。” 神山上人接口道：“哈哈，中土佛门果然受惠于天竺佛国不浅。当年达摩祖师挟天竺武技东来，传于少林，天竺武技流传至今，少林高僧的出手，居然和天竺高僧的天竺武功仍然若合符节，实乃可喜可贺。'般若'、'摩诃'是梵语，'金刚'是梵神，东西为一，万法同源，可说是武学中的无分别境界了，哈哈，哈哈。” 少林群僧一听之下，均有怒色。适才波罗星矢口不认偷看过少林寺的武功秘录，倒也难以指证其非。那中年少林僧法名玄生，是玄慈的师弟，武功既高，性情亦复刚猛，突然间出其不意的向波罗星袭击。他事先盘算已定，所使招数以及袭向的部位，逼得波罗星不得不以般若掌、摩诃指、大金刚拳中的三招来拆解。倘若波罗星从未学过这三门功夫，当然另有本门功夫拆解，但新学乍练，这些时日心中所想，手上所习，定然都是少林派功夫，仓卒之际不及细想，定会顺手以这三招最方便的招数应付。不料神山强辞夺理，反说这是天竺武技。但少林派的武功源自达摩祖师。达摩是天竺僧人，梁朝时自天竺东来与梁武帝讲论佛法，话不投机，于是驻锡少林，传下禅宗心法与绝世武功，那也是天下皆知之事。神山上人机变绝伦，一口咬定少林派的武功般若掌、摩诃指、与大金刚拳系从天竺传来，那么波罗星会使这三种武功便毫不希奇，决不能因此而证明他曾偷看过少林寺的武功秘录。 玄慈缓缓说道：“本寺佛法与武功都是传自达摩祖师，那是一点不假。来于天竺，还于天竺，原也合情合理。波罗星师兄只须明言相求，本寺原可将达摩祖师所遗下的武经恭录以赠。但这般若掌创于本寺第八代方丈元元大师，摩诃指系一位在本寺挂单四十年的七指头陀所创。那大金刚拳法，则是本寺第十一代通字辈的六位高僧，穷三十六年之功，共同钻研而成。此三门全系中土武功，与天竺以意御劲、以劲发力的功夫截然不同。众位师兄都是武学高人，其中差别一见而知，原不必老衲多所饶舌。” 观
