这十六个字比蝇头还小，鞋子是湖绿色，十六个字以葱绿细丝绣成，只比底色略深，石室中光影朦胧，若非磕下头去，又再凝神细看，决计不会见到。只觉磕首千遍，原是天经地义之事，若能供其驱策，更是求之不得，至于遵行这位美人的命令，不论赴汤蹈火，自然百死无悔，绝无丝毫犹豫，神魂颠倒之下，当即“一五、一十、十五、二十……”口中数着，恭恭敬敬的向玉像磕起头来。 他就此躺着休息，只觉已遵玉像之命而做成了一件事，全身越是疲累酸疼，越是心中快慰。过了好一会，慢慢爬起身来，伸手到小蒲团的破裂处去掏摸，触手柔滑，里面是个绸包，心想：“原来神仙姊姊早有安排，我若非磕足一千个头，小蒲团不会破裂，她赐给我的宝贝就不会出现了。”他于珠玉珍宝向来不放在心上，但这绸包既是神仙姊姊所赐，即使其中所包的只是树叶枯草、烂布碎纸，那也是无价的宝物。右手一经取出绸包，左手便即伸过去也拿住了，双手捧到胸前。 这绸包一尺来长，白绸上写着几行细字：“汝既磕首千遍，自当供我驱策，终身无悔。此卷为我逍遥派武功精要，每日卯午酉三时，务须用心修习一次，若稍有懈惰，余将蹙眉痛心矣。神功既成，可至琅嬛福地遍阅诸般典籍，天下各门派武功家数尽集于斯，亦即尽为汝用。勉之勉之。学成下山，为余杀尽逍遥派弟子，有一遗漏，余于天上地下耿耿长恨也。” 又想：“神仙姊姊仙去已数十年，世上也不知还有没有逍遥派。常言道：恶有恶报，说不定他们早已个个恶贯满盈，再不用我动手去杀。世上既已没了逍遥派弟子，神仙姊姊的心愿已偿，她在天上地下，也不用耿耿长恨了。” 言念及此，登时心下坦然，默默祷祝：“神仙姊姊，你吩咐下来的事，段誉当然一定遵行不误，但愿你法力无边，逍遥派弟子早已个个无疾而终。”战战兢兢的打开绸包，里面是个卷成一卷的帛卷。 “'逍遥游'有云：'穷发之北有冥海者，天池也。有鱼焉，其广数千里，未有知其修也。'又云：'且夫水之积也不厚，则其负大舟也无力。覆杯水于坳堂之上，则芥为之舟；置杯焉则胶，水浅而舟大也。'是故本派武功，以积蓄内力为第一要义。内力既厚，天下武功无不为我所用，犹之北冥，大舟小舟无不载，大鱼小鱼无不容。是故内力为本，招数为末。以下诸图，务须用心修习。” 于是颤抖着手翻过帛卷，但见画中裸女嫣然微笑，眉梢眼角，唇边颊上，尽是娇媚，比之那玉像的庄严宝相，容貌虽似，神情却是大异。他似乎听到自己一颗心扑通、扑通的跳动之声，斜眼偷看那裸女身子时，只见有一条绿色细线起自左肩，横至颈下，斜行而至右乳。他看到画中裸女椒乳坟起，心中大动，急忙闭眼，过了良久才睁眼再看，见绿线通至腋下，延至右臂，经手腕至右手大拇指而止。他越看越宽心，心想看看神仙姊姊的手臂、手指是不打紧的，但藕臂葱指，毕竟也不能不为之心动。 另一条绿线却是至颈口向下延伸，经肚腹不住向下，至离肚脐数分处而止。段誉对这条绿线不敢多看，凝目看手臂上那条绿线时，见线旁以细字注满了“云门”、“中府”、“天府”、“侠白”、“尺泽”、“孔最”、“列缺”、“经渠”、“大渊”、“鱼际”等字样，至拇指的“少商”而止。他平时常听爹爹与妈妈谈论武功，虽不留意，但听得多了，知道“云门”、“中府”等等都是人身的穴道名称。 当下将帛卷又展开少些，见下面的字是：“北冥神功系引世人之内力而为我有。北冥大水，非由自生。语云：百川汇海，大海之水以容百川而得。汪洋巨浸，端在积聚。此'手太阴肺经'为北冥神功之第一课。”下面写的是这门功夫的详细练法。 再展帛卷，长卷上源源皆是裸女画像，或立或卧，或现前胸，或见后背，人像的面容都是一般，但或喜或愁，或含情凝眸，或轻嗔薄怒，神情各异。一共有三十六幅图像，每幅像上均有颜色细线，注明穴道部位及练功法诀。 帛卷尽处题着“凌波微步”四字，其后绘的是无数足印，注明“妇妹”、“无妄”等等字样，尽是易经中的方位。段誉前几日还正全心全意的钻研易经，一见到这些名称，登时精神大振，便似遇到故交良友一般。只见足印密密麻麻，不知有几千百个，自一个足印至另一个足印均有绿线贯串，线上绘有箭头，料是一套繁复的步法。最后写着一行字道：“猝遇强敌，以此保身，更积内力，再取敌命。” 段誉心道：“神仙姊姊所遗的步法，必定精妙之极，遇到强敌时脱身逃走，那就很好，'再取敌命'也就不必了。” 卷好帛卷，对之作了两个揖，珍而重之的揣入怀中，转身对那玉像道：“神仙姊姊，你吩咐我朝午晚三次练功，段誉不敢有违。今后我对人加倍客气，别人不会来打我，我自然也不会去吸他的内力。你这套'凌波微步'我更要用心练熟，眼见不对，立刻溜之大吉，就吸不到他的内力了。”至于“杀尽我逍遥派弟子”一节，却想也不敢去想。 室中并无衾枕衣服，只壁上悬了一张七弦琴，弦线俱已断绝。又见床左有张石几，几上刻了十九道棋盘，棋局上布着两百余枚棋子，然黑白对峙，这一局并未下毕。琴犹在，局未终，而佳人已邈。段誉悄立室中，忍不住悲从中来，颊上流下两行清泪。 蓦地里心中一凛：“啊哟，既有棋局，自必曾有两人在此下棋，只怕神仙姊姊就是那个'秋水妹'，和她丈夫逍遥子在此下棋，唉，这个……这个……啊，是了，这局棋不是两个人下的，是神仙姊姊孤居幽谷，寂寥之际，自己跟自己下的。神仙姊姊，当日你为甚么不高呼数声？段誉听到你娇嫩的呼叫，自然跃入深谷，来陪你下棋了。”走近去细看棋局，不由得越看越心惊。 但见这局棋变化繁复无比，倒似是弈人所称的“珍珑”，劫中有劫，既有共活，又有长生。段誉于弈理曾钻研数年，当日沉迷于此道之时，整日价就与帐房中的霍先生对弈。他天资聪颖，只短短一年时光，便自受让四子而转为倒让霍先生三子，棋力已可算是大理国的高手。但眼前这局棋后果如何，却实在推想不出，似乎黑棋已然胜定，但白棋未始没有反败为胜之机。他看了良久，棋局越来越朦胧，只见几上有两座烛台，兀自插着半截残烛，烛台的托盘上放着火刀火石和纸媒，于是打着了火，点烛再看，只看得头晕脑胀，心口烦恶。 见这“琅嬛福地”中并无其他门户，又回到玉像所处的石室，只与玉像的双眸一对，心下便又痴痴迷迷颠倒起来，呆看了半晌，这才一揖到地，说道：“神仙姊姊，今日我身有要事，只得暂且别过，救出钟家姑娘之后，再来和姊姊相聚。” 狠一狠心，拿着烛台，大踏步走出石室，待欲另寻出路，只见室旁一条石级斜向上引，初时进来时因一眼便见到玉像，于这石级全未在意。他跨步而上，一步三犹豫，几次三番的想回头去再瞧瞧那位玉美人，终于咬紧牙关，下了好大决心，这才克制住了。 走到一百多级时，已转了三个弯，隐隐听到轰隆轰隆的水声，又行二百余级，水声已然震耳欲聋，前面并有光亮透入。他加快脚步，走到石级的尽头，前面是个仅可容身的洞穴，探头向外一张，只吓得心中怦怦乱跳。 一眼望出去，外边怒涛汹涌，水流湍急，竟是一条大江。江岸山石壁立，嶙峋巍峨，看这情势，已是到了澜沧江畔。他又惊又喜，慢慢爬出洞来，见容身处离江面有十来丈高，江水纵然大涨，也不会淹进洞来，但要走到江岸，却也着实不易。当下手脚齐用，狼狈不堪的爬了上去，同时将四下地形牢牢记在心中，以备救人之事一了，再来此处，心想：“今后每一年中，总得有几个月在洞内陪伴神仙姊姊。”
江岸尽是山石，小路也没一条，七高八低的走出七八里地，见到一株野生桃树，树上结实累累，采来吃了个饱，精神为之一振，又走了十余里，才见到一条小径。沿着小径行去，将近黄昏，终于见到了过江的铁索桥，只见桥边石上刻着“善人渡”三个大字。 他心下大喜，钟灵指点他的途径正是要过“善人渡”铁索桥，这下子可走上了正道啦。当下扶着铁索，踏上桥板。那桥共是四条铁索，两条在下，上铺木板，以供行走，两条在旁作为扶手。一踏上桥，几条铁索便即晃动，行到江心，铁索晃得更加厉害，一瞥眼间，但见江水荡荡，激起无数泡沫，如快马奔腾般从脚底飞过，只要一个失足，卷入江水，任你多好的水性也难活命。他不敢向下再看，双眼望前，战战兢兢的颤声念诵：“阿弥陀佛，阿弥陀佛！”一步步的终于挨到了桥头。 坐在桥边歇了一阵，才依着钟灵指点的路径，快步而行。走得大半个时辰，只见迎面黑压压的一座大森林，知道已到了钟灵所居的“万劫谷”谷口。走近前去，果见左首一排九株大松树参天并列，他自右数到第四株，依着钟灵的指点，绕到树后，拨开长草，树上出现一洞，心想：“这'万劫谷'的所在当真隐蔽，若不是钟姑娘告知，又有谁能知道谷口竟会是在一株大松树中。” 钻进树洞，左手拨开枯草，右手摸到一个大铁环，用力提起，木板掀开，下面便是一道石级，他走下几级，双手托着木板放回原处，沿石级向下走去，三十余级后石级右转，数丈后折而向上，心想：“在这里建造石级本是容易不过，可是这些石级，比之神仙姊姊洞中的反而远为不如。”上行三十余级，来到平地。 眼前大片草地，尽头处又全是一株株松树。走过草地，只见一株大松上削下了丈许长、尺许宽的一片，漆上白漆，写着九个大字：“姓段者入此谷杀无赦”。八字黑色，那“杀”字却作殷红之色。 段誉心想：“这谷主干么如此恨我姓段的？就算有姓段之人得罪了他，天下姓段之人成千成万，也不能个个都杀。”其时天色朦胧，这九个字又写得张牙舞爪，那个“杀”字下红漆淋漓，似是洒满了鲜血一般，更是惨厉可怖。寻思：“钟姑娘叫我别说姓段，原来如此。她叫我在九个大字的第二字上敲击三下，便是要我敲这个'段'字了，她当时不明言'段'字，定是怕我生气。敲就敲好了，打甚么紧？她救了我性命，别说只在一个'段'字上敲三下，就是在我段誉头上敲三下，那也无妨。”
