半个多时辰之后，上涌的潮水反退出海，顺风顺水，舟行更远，破晓后已近王盘山岛。 那王盘山在钱塘江口的东海之中，是个荒凉小岛，山石嶙峋，向无人居。两艘船驶近岛南，相距尚有数里，只听得岛上号角之声呜呜吹起，岸边两人各举大旗，挥舞示意。座船渐渐驶近，只见两面大旗上均绣着一头大鹰，双翅伸展，甚是威武。 两面大旗之间站着一个老者。只听他朗声说道：“玄武坛白龟寿恭迎殷姑娘。”声音漫长，绵绵密密，虽不响亮，却是气韵醇厚。片刻间坐船靠岸，白龟寿亲自铺上跳板。殷素素请张翠山先行，上岸后和白龟寿引见。 白龟寿见殷素素神气间对张翠山极为重视，待听到他是武当七侠中的张五侠，更是心中一凛，说道：“久仰武当七侠的清名，今日幸得识荆，大是荣幸。”张翠山谦逊了几句。 殷素素笑道：“你两个言不由衷，说话太不痛快。一个心想：'啊哟，不好，武当派的人也来啦，多了个争夺屠龙刀的棘手人物。'另一个心中却说：'你这种左道邪教的人物，我才犯不着跟你结交呢。'我说啊，你们想说甚么便说甚么，不用口是心非的。” 白龟寿哈哈一笑。张翠山却道：“不敢！白坛主武功精湛，在下听得白坛主这份隔海传声的功夫，心下好生佩服。在下只是陪殷姑娘来瞧瞧热闹，决无觊觎宝刀之心。” 殷素素听他这般说，面溢春花，好生喜欢。白龟寿素知殷素素面冷心狠，从来不对任何人稍假词色，但这时对张翠山的神态却截然不同，知道此人在她心中的分量实是不轻，又听得他称赞自己的内功，当下敌意尽消，说道：“殷姑娘，海沙派、巨鲸帮、神拳门那些家伙早就到啦，还有两个昆仑派的年轻剑客。这两个小子飞扬跋扈，嚣张得紧，哪如张五侠扬名天下，却这么谦光。可见有一分本事，便有一分修养……” 他刚说到这里，忽听得山背后一人喝道：“背后鬼鬼祟祟的毁谤旁人，这又算是甚么行径了？”话声一歇，转出两个人来。两人均穿青色长袍，背上斜插长剑，都是二十八九岁年纪，脸罩寒霜，一副要惹事生非的模样。 白龟寿笑道：“说起曹操，曹操便到。来来来，我跟各位引见引见。” 那两个昆仑派的青年剑客本来就要发作，但斗然间见到殷素素容光照人，艳丽非凡，不由得心中都是怦然一动。一个人目不转瞬的呆瞧着她，另一个看了她一眼，急忙转开了头，但随即又偷偷斜目看她。 白龟寿指着呆看殷素素的那人道：“这位是高则成高大剑客。”指着另一人道：“这位是蒋涛蒋大剑客。两位都是昆仑派的武学高手。想昆仑派威震西域，武学上有不传之秘，高蒋两位更是昆仑派中出乎其类、拔乎其萃、矫矫不群的人物。这一次来到中原，定当大显身手，让我们开开眼界。” 他这番话中显是颇含讥嘲，张翠山心想这两人若不立即动武，也必反唇相稽，哪知高蒋二人只唯唯否否，似乎并没有听见他说些甚么，再看二人的神色，这才省悟，原来他二人一见殷素素，一个傻瞪，一个偷瞧，竟都神不守舍的如痴如呆。张翠山暗暗好笑，心道：“昆仑派名播天下，号称剑术通神，哪知派中弟子却这般无聊。” 白龟寿又道：“这位是武当派张翠山张相公，这位是殷素素殷姑娘，这位是敝教的常金鹏常坛主。”他说这三人姓名时都轻描淡写，不加形容，对张翠山更只称一声“张相公”，连“张五侠”的字眼也免了，显是将他当作极亲近的自己人看待。 殷素素心中甚喜，眼光在张翠山脸上一转，秋波流动，梨涡浅现。 高则成见殷素素对张翠山神态亲近，胸头也不知从哪里来的一丛怒火，狠狠的向张翠山怒目横了一眼，冷冷的道：“蒋师弟，咱们在西域之时，好像听说过，武当派算是中原武林中的名门正派啊。”蒋涛道：“不错，好像听说过。”高则成道：“原来耳闻不如目见，道听途说之言，大不可信。”蒋涛道：“是吗？江湖上谣言甚多，十之八九原本靠不住。高师哥说武当派怎么了？”高则成道：“名门正派的弟子，怎地和邪教人物厮混在一起，这不是自甘堕落么？”二人一吹一唱，竟向张翠山叫起阵来。他们可不知殷素素也是天鹰教中人物，“邪教”二字，只指白常二人而言。 张翠山听他二人言语如此无礼，登时便要发作，但转念一想，自己这次上王盘山来，用意纯在查察伤害俞岱岩的凶手，这两个昆仑弟子年纪虽较自己为大，却是初出茅庐的无名之辈，犯不着跟他们一般见识，何况天鹰教行事确甚邪恶，观乎殷素素和常金鹏将杀人当作家常便饭一事可知，自己决不能与他们牵缠在一起，于是微微一笑，说道：“在下跟天鹰教的这几位也是初识，和两位仁兄没甚么分别。” 这两句话众人听了都是大出意外。白常两坛主只道殷素素跟他交情甚深，原来却是初识。殷素素心中恼怒，知道张翠山如此说，分明有瞧不起天鹰教之意。高蒋两人相视冷笑，心想：“这小子是个脓包，一听到昆仑派的名头，心里就怕了咱们啦。” 白龟寿道：“各位贵宾都已到齐，只有巨鲸帮的麦少帮主还没来，咱们也不等他啦。现下各位到处随便逛逛，正午时分，请到那边山谷饮酒看刀。”常金鹏笑道：“麦少帮主座船失事，是张相公命人救了起来，这时便在船中，待会请他赴宴便了。” 张翠山见白常两位坛主对己执礼甚恭，殷素素的眼光神色之间更是柔情似水，但想跟这些人越疏远越好，说道：“小弟想独自走走，各位请便。”也不待各人回答，一举手，便向东边一带树中走去。 王盘山是个小岛，山石树木亦无可观之处。东南角有个港湾，桅樯高耸，停泊着十来艘大船，想是巨鲸帮、海沙派一干人的座船。张翠山沿着海边信步而行，他对殷素素任意杀人的残暴行径虽然大是不满，但说也奇怪，一颗心竟念兹在兹的萦绕在她身上：“这位殷姑娘在天鹰教中地位极是尊贵，白常两位坛主对她像公主一般侍候，但她显然不是教主，不知是甚么来头？”又想：“天鹰教要在这岛上扬刀立威，对方海沙派、神拳门、巨鲸帮等都由首要人物赴会，天鹰教却只派两个坛主主持，全没将这些对手放在心上。瞧那玄武坛白坛主的气派，似乎功力尚在朱雀坛常坛主之上。看来天鹰教已是武林中一个极大的隐忧，今日须当多摸清一些他们的底细，日后武当七侠只怕要跟他们势不两立。” 正沉吟间，忽听得树林外传来一阵阵兵刃相交之声，他好奇心起，循声过去，只见树荫下高则成和蒋涛各执长剑，正在练剑，殷素素在一旁笑吟吟的瞧着。张翠山心道：“师父常说昆仑派剑术大有独到之处，他老人家少年之时，还和一个号称'剑圣'的昆仑派名家交过手，这机缘倒是难得。”但武林人士学习武功之时极忌旁人偷看。张翠山虽极想看个究竟，终是守着武林规矩，只望了一眼，转身便欲退开。 但他这么一探头，殷素素已见到了，向他招了招手，叫道：“张五哥，你过来。”张翠山这时若再避开，反落了个偷看的嫌疑，于是迈步走近，说道：“两位兄台在此练剑，咱们别惹人厌，到那边走走罢。”还没听到殷素素回答，只见白光一闪，嗤的一响，蒋涛反剑掠上，高则成左臂中剑，鲜血冒出。张翠山吃了一惊，只道是蒋涛失手误伤。哪知高则成哼也不哼，铁青着脸，刷刷刷三剑，招数巧妙狠辣，全是指向蒋涛的要害。张翠山这才看清，原来两人并非练习剑法，竟是真打真斗，不禁大是讶异。 殷姑娘笑道：“看来师哥不及师弟，还是蒋兄的剑法精妙些。” 高则成听了此言，一咬牙，翻身回剑，剑诀斜引，一招“百丈飞瀑”，剑锋从半空中直泻下来。张翠山忍不住喝彩：“好剑法！”蒋涛缩身急躲，但高则成的剑势不到用老，中途变招，剑尖抖动，“嘿！”的一声呼喝，刺入了蒋涛左腿。殷素素拍手道：“原来做师兄的毕竟也有两手，蒋兄这一下可比下去啦。”蒋涛怒道：“也不见得。”剑招忽变，歪歪斜斜的使出一套“雨打飞花”剑法来。这一路剑走的全是斜势，飘逸无伦，但七八招斜势之中，偶尔又挟着一招正势，教人极难捉摸。高则成对这路本门剑法自是烂熟于胸，见招拆招，毫不客气的还以击削劈刺。两人身上都已受伤，虽然非在要害，但剧斗中鲜血飞溅，两人脸上、袍上、手上都是血点斑斑。师兄弟俩越斗越狠，到后来竟似性命相扑一般。殷素素在旁不住口的推波助澜，赞几句高则成，又赞几句蒋涛，把两人激得如癫如痴，恨不得一剑将对方刺倒，显得自己剑法高强，好讨得殷素素欢喜。 这时张翠山早已明白，他师兄弟俩忽然舍命恶斗，全是殷素素从中挑拨，以报复两人先前出言轻侮了天鹰教。眼见两人越打越狠，初时还不过意欲取胜，到后来均已难以自制，竟似要致对方死命一般，再斗下去势将闯出大祸。看这二人剑法确然颇为精妙，然变化不够灵动，内力也嫌薄弱，剑法中的威力只发挥得出一二成而已。 殷素素拍手嘻笑，甚是高兴，说道：“张五哥，你瞧昆仑派的剑法怎样？”不听张翠山回答，一回头，见他眉头微皱，颇有厌恶之色，说道：“使来使去这几路，也没甚么看头，咱们到那边瞧瞧海景去罢！”说着拉着张翠山的左手，举步便行。 张翠山只觉一只温腻软滑的手掌握住自己的手，心中一动，明知她是有意激怒高蒋二人，却也不便挣脱，只得随着她走向海边。 殷素素瞧着一望无际的大海，出了一会神，忽道：“《庄子·秋水篇》中说道：'天下之水，莫大于海，万川归之，不知何时止而不盈。'然而大海却并不骄傲，只说：'吾在于天地之间，犹小石小木之在大山也。'庄子真是了不起，胸襟如此博大！” 张翠山见她挑动高蒋二人自相残杀，引以为乐，本来甚是不满，忽然听到这几句话，不禁一怔。是道家修真之士所必读，张翠山在武当山时，张三丰也常拿来跟他们师兄弟讲解。但这个杀人不眨眼的女魔头突然在这当儿发此感慨，实大出于他意料之外。他一怔之下，说道：“是啊，'夫千里之远，不足以举其大，千仞之高，不足以极其深。'” 殷素素听他以《庄子·秋水篇》中形容大海的话相答，但脸上神气，却有不胜仰慕钦敬之情，说道：“你想起了师父吗？” 张翠山吃了一惊，情不自禁的伸出右手，握住了她另外一只手，道：“你怎知道？”当年他在山上和大师兄宋远桥、三师兄俞岱岩共读，读到“夫千里之远，不足以举其大，千仞之高，不足以极其深”这两句话时，俞岱岩说道：“咱们跟师父学艺，越学越觉得跟他老人家相差得远了，倒似每天都在退步一般。用上这两句话来形容他老人家深不可测、
