欧阳锋那日在嘉兴王铁枪庙中与杨过分手，躲在大钟之下，教柯镇恶奈何不得。他潜运神功，治疗内伤，七日七夜之后内力已复，但给柯镇恶铁杖所击出的外伤实也不轻，一时难以痊可。他掀开巨钟，到客店中又去养了二十来天伤，这才内外痊愈，便去找寻杨过，但一隔匝月，大地茫茫，哪里还能寻到他的踪迹？寻思：“这孩子九成是到了桃花岛上。”当即弄了一只小船，驶到桃花岛来，白天不敢近岛，直到黑夜，方始在后山登岸。他自知非郭靖、黄蓉二人之敌，又不知黄药师不在岛上，就算自己本领再大一倍，也打这三人不过，是以白日躲在极荒僻的山洞之中，每晚悄悄巡游。岛上布置奇妙，他也不敢随意乱走。 如此一年有余，总算他谨慎万分，白天不敢出洞一步，踪迹始终未被发觉，直到一日晚上听到武修文兄弟谈话，才知郭靖送杨过到全真教学艺之事。欧阳锋大喜，当即偷船离岛，赶到重阳宫来。哪知其时杨过已与全真教闹翻，进了活死人墓。此事在全真教实是奇耻大辱，全教上下，人人绝口不谈，欧阳锋虽千方百计打听，却探不到半声消息。这些时日中，他踏遍了终南山周围数百里之地，却哪里知道杨过竟深藏地底，自然寻找不着。 这一晚事有凑巧，他行经山谷之旁，突见一个白衣少女对着月亮抱膝长叹。欧阳锋疯疯癫癫的问道：“喂，我的孩儿在哪里？你有没见他啊？”小龙女横了他一眼，不加理睬。欧阳锋纵身上前，伸手便抓她臂膀，喝道：“我的孩儿呢？”小龙女见他出手强劲，武功之高，生平从所未见，即是全真教的高手，亦是远远不及，不由得大吃一惊，忙使小擒拿手卸脱。欧阳锋这一抓原期必中，哪知竟被对方轻轻巧巧的拆解开了，也不问她是谁，左手跟着又上。两人就这么毫没来由的斗了起来。
义父义子各叙别来之情。欧阳锋神智半清半迷，过去之事早已说不大清楚，而对杨过所述也是不甚了了，只知他这些年来一直在跟小龙女练武，大声道：“她武功又不及我，何必跟她练？让我来教你。”小龙女哪里跟他计较，听见后淡淡一笑，自行走在一旁。 杨过却感到不好意思，说道：“爸爸，师父待我很好。”欧阳锋妒忌起来，叫道：“她好，我就不好么？”杨过笑道：“你也好。这世界上，就只你两个待我好。”欧阳锋的话虽然说得不明不白，杨过却也知他在几年中到处找寻自己，实是费尽了千辛万苦。 欧阳锋抓住他的手掌，嘻嘻傻笑，过了一阵，道：“你的武功倒练得不错，就可惜不会世上最上乘的两大奇功。”杨过道：“那是甚么啊？”欧阳锋浓眉倒竖，喝道：“亏你是练武之人，世上两大奇功都不知晓。你拜她为师有什么用？”杨过见他忽喜忽怒，不由得暗自担忧，心道：“爸爸患病已深，不知何时方得痊愈？”欧阳锋哈哈大笑，道：“嘿，让爸爸教你。那两大奇功第一是蛤蟆功，第二是九阴真经。我先教你蛤蟆功的入门功夫。”说着便背诵口诀。杨过微笑道：“你从前教过我的，你忘了吗？”欧阳锋搔搔头皮，道：“原来你已经学过，再好也没有了。你练给我瞧瞧。” 杨过自入古墓之后，从未练过欧阳锋昔日所授的怪异功夫，此时听他一说，欣然照办。他在桃花岛时便已练过，现下以上乘内功一加运用，登时使得花团锦簇。欧阳锋笑道：“好看！好看！就是不对劲，中看不中用。我把其中诀窍尽数传了你罢！”当下指手划脚、滔滔不绝的说了起来，也不理会杨过是否记得，只是说个不停，说一段蛤蟆功，又说一段颠倒错乱的九阴真经。杨过听了半晌，但觉他每句话中都似妙义无穷，但既繁复，又古怪，一时之间又哪能领会得了这许多？ 欧阳锋说了一阵，瞥眼忽见小龙女坐在一旁，叫道：“啊哟，不好，莫要给你的女娃娃师父偷听了去。”走到小龙女跟前，说道：“喂，小丫头，我在传我孩儿功夫，你别偷听。”小龙女道：“你的功夫有什么希罕？谁要偷听了？”欧阳锋侧头一想，道：“好，那你走得远远地。”小龙女靠在一株花树之上，冷冷的道：“我干么要听你差遣？我爱走就走，不爱走就不走。”欧阳锋大怒，须眉戟张，伸手要往她脸上抓去，但小龙女只作不见，理也不理。杨过大叫：“爸爸，你别得罪我师父。”欧阳锋缩回了手，说道：“好好，那就我们走得远远地，可是你跟不跟来偷听？” 小龙女心想过儿这个义父为人极是无赖，懒得再去理他，转过了头不答，不料背心上突然一麻，原来欧阳锋忽尔长臂，在她背心穴道上点了一指，这一下出手奇快，小龙女又全然不防，待得惊觉想要抵御，上身已转动不灵。欧阳锋跟着又伸指在她腰里点了一下，笑道：“小丫头，你莫心焦，待我传完了我孩儿功夫，就来放你。”说着大笑而去。 杨过正在默记义父所传的蛤蟆功与九阴真经，但觉他所说的功诀有些缠夹不清，乱七八糟，然而其中妙用极多，却是绝无可疑，潜心思索，毫不知小龙女被袭之事。欧阳锋走过来牵了他手，道：“咱们到那边去，莫给你的小师父听去了。”杨过心想小龙女怎会偷听，你就是硬要传她，她也决不肯学，但义父心性失常，也不必和他多所争辩，于是随着他走远。 小龙女麻软在地，又是好气又是好笑，心想自己武功虽然练得精深，究是少了临敌的经验，以致中了李莫愁暗算之后，又遭这胡子怪人的偷袭，于是潜运九阴神功，自解穴道，吸一口气向穴道冲袭几次。岂知两处穴道不但毫无松动之象，反而更加酸麻，不由得大骇。原来欧阳锋的手法刚与九阴真经逆转而行，她以王重阳的遗法冲解，竟然是求脱反固。试了几次，但觉被点处隐隐作痛，当下不敢再试，心想那疯汉传完功夫之后，自会前来解救，她万事不萦于怀
