Chapter 32 The second section Lin Huiyin and Bing Xin become enemies

When Liang and Lin returned from overseas, their family had already prepared a new house for them, that is, Liang Qichao’s residence in Beigouyan Hutong, East Forty-four Tiao (according to the south: now No. 23 Beigouyan Hutong). After living here for a short time, he went to teach at Northeastern University. When they returned from Shenyang, the whole family moved into No. 2 Rice Grain Depot in Di'anmen. At that time, a large number of academic celebrities from Tsinghua University and Peking University lived in Miliangku Hutong. For example, Chen Yuan and Fu Sinian lived in No. 1 Miliangku Hutong, and Hu Shi lived in No. 4.Later, Liang and Lin thought that the house in Miliangku Hutong was too narrow, so they moved to No. 3 Beizongbu Hutong.Compared with Miliangku Hutong, this is a distinctive quadrangle, spacious and bright, quiet and suitable, which is indeed a rare beauty.

Since moving to the courtyard house at No. 3 Beizongbu Hutong, Liang and Lin's personality and intellectual charm quickly attracted a group of cultural elites from the Chinese intellectual circles at that time. The famous poet Xu Zhimo; the famous philosopher Jin Yuelin in the academic circle; the political scientist Zhang Xiruo, the philosopher Deng Shucun, the economist Chen Daisun, the expert on international political issues Qian Duansheng, the physicist Zhou Peiyuan, the sociologist Tao Meng He, archaeologist Li Ji, cultural leader Hu Shi, esthetician Zhu Guangqian, writers Shen Congwen, Xiao Qian, etc. These scholars and cultural elites often came to Liang's house one after another on Saturday afternoons, drinking tea and chatting, discussing world affairs.Whenever friends get together, Lin Huiyin, who is brilliant and talented, always has a sharp mind, is good at raising and capturing topics, has a superhuman affinity and the ability to mobilize the emotions of the guests, so that the topics discussed by scholars have both ideological depth and social breadth. ; Both academic theory and strong practical pertinence. It can be said that talking about the past and the present is all knowledge. With the passage of time, the influence of the Liang family's social circle became more and more influential, and gradually became popular, forming the most famous cultural salon in Beiping in the 1930s, which was called "the wife's living room" at the time. This "living room", which has attracted the attention of the world and has gradually become a feature of international clubs, has aroused the fascination of many intellectuals, especially young literary youths. For example, Xiao Qian, Shen Congwen and other junior figures once came to ask for advice and were appreciated by Lin Huiyin. and support.Of course, Lin Huiyin was not just a fool and literary youth like Xiao Qian who dealt with Lin Huiyin during this period. Once he was summoned, he was flattered and grateful. Some people who have made great achievements in literary creation, especially some women who have drunk foreign ink, not only do not take Lin in their eyes, but also make fun of it.Li Jianwu, a writer who had a close relationship with Lin Huiyin at that time, described Lin Huiyin in this way: "Extremely intelligent, but also a red-hot heart, quick-spoken, straight-tempered, and so strong, almost all women regard her as an enemy. For this reason, Li Jianwu also gave an example: "I remember that she (Lin Huiyin) told a proud and interesting story in person. Bing Xin wrote a novel "The Wife's Living Room" to satirize her, because every Saturday afternoon, some friends Focus on her to talk about various phenomena and problems of the times. She happened to return to Peiping from Shanxi to investigate temples, and brought a jar of old and fragrant Shanxi vinegar, and immediately asked someone to give it to Bing Xin to eat." Regarding this interesting incident, Li Jianwu The conclusion drawn is: "They are friends and enemies at the same time" between Lin Huiyin and Bing Xin.The reason for this situation is that "she (Lin) lacks the quiet and delicate character of a woman. She is (all) interested in any issue, especially literature and art, and has an instinctive and direct perception. Growth and wealth, destiny Ups and downs, self-cultivation allows her to hide her enthusiasm inside, but enthusiasm is the pillar of her life. She likes to argue with people—because she loves the truth, but she is lonely, lonely, and depressed, and she will always express her sorrow in verse."

Li Jianwu mentioned Lin's "enemy" Bing Xin, which is quite refreshing for future generations.Checking the history, Bing Xin did write a satirical article titled "Our Wife's Living Room".This article was written on the night of October 17, 1933, and has been serialized in the literary supplement of Tianjin "Ta Kung Pao" since September 27. In October of this year, Lin Huiyin, Liang Sicheng, Liu Dunzhen, Mo Zongjiang and others went to Datong, Shanxi to investigate and study ancient buildings and Yungang Grottoes, and had just returned to Peiping. From the perspective of time, Li Jianwu's record seems to have some basis, and the gift of vinegar is not false.Bing Xin's actions really hurt Lin Huiyin's self-esteem.According to the description in Bing Xin's novel: "Our wife was a famous flower in the social world at that time, and she was especially beautiful when she was sixteen or seventeen... Naturally, our husband [photo] cannot be placed with his wife. He is in the presence of guests. In the eyes, at least it is obscene and commonplace. Who can see our wife without sighing in admiration, and who can see our husband without sighing in disgust?" "Although our wife is a woman, she is She doesn’t like women. She thinks Chinese women are very old-fashioned, trivial, and small.” He also said: In our wife’s “soft and colorful” living room, besides Yushu Linfeng’s wife, there is another woman who has been changed. A Chinese servant with an English name and her daughter Binbin. In addition, there are scientists Mr. Tao, professors of philosophy, professors of literature, a "so-called artist" American woman named Ke Luxi, and a "white robe facing the wind, naturally thin "The poet. The poet "has bald hair divided equally on both sides, fair face, high nose, thin lips, unrestrained attitude, looking forward with affection, and is born a 'woman's man'".

After Bing Xin's novel was published, it attracted great attention from the cultural circles in Pingjin and even the whole country. In the works, whether it is "our wives", or poets, philosophers, painters, scientists, and foreign romantic widows, there is an obvious "three falsehoods" of hypocrisy, vanity and illusion, as well as vulgarity, vulgarity, kitsch, etc. The appearance of the "three vulgar", "three vulgar" and "one or two" characters is a decadence for society, love, self and others. A turbid current of sentimentality and atrophy.Bing Xin made a profound irony and criticism in a gentle and sarcastic tone.Jin Yuelin later said: This novel "also has another meaning, and this other meaning seems to be that Chinese young women in the 1930s seem to have a problem of 'not knowing the hatred of subjugation'".

Wen Jieruo, who was a middle school student at the time and later became Mrs. Xiao Qian's translator, said in the article "Impressions of Lin Huiyin": "After I was in junior high school, my eldest sister once took a copy of Bing Xin's short story collection "Dong'er" published by Beixin Book Company. Girl” show me, the heroine and poet of “Our Wife’s Living Room” in the storybook was written based on Lin Huiyin and Xu Zhimo. After Xu Zhimo died in a plane crash, he was often talked about at home. It also mentioned the romantic affair between him and Lu Xiaoman." Bing Xin's husband Wu Wenzao and Liang Sicheng are both graduates of Tsinghua School's 1923 class, and they live in the same dormitory at Tsinghua University, so they are real "classmates".Lin Huiyin and Bing Xin belonged to the same township in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, and they had contact with their predecessors. The two couples studied in the United States successively, but after returning to China, Wu Wenzao and Bing Xin served in Yenching University, while Liang and Lin served in Northeastern University and China Construction Society .During this period, the two couples met and had a pleasant relationship at least in Qi Sejia in the United States, that is, the place where Chen Hengzhe, Ren Hongjun and Hu Shi engaged in a love triangle. It’s just that the time was too short, at least in the late autumn of 1933 when this obviously allusive novel was completed and published. After Lin Huiyin sent someone to give Bing Xin a fermented Shanxi old vinegar, the two changed from friends to enemies, and they never met again in the years to come. Difficult to get along with.

After 1938, Lin Huiyin and Bing Xin lived in Kunming for nearly three years, and the early residences were very close to each other. Bing Xin lived in Luofeng Street and Weixin Street successively, and Lin lived in Xunjin Street. It only takes ten minutes to walk to meet each other. , but from the texts left by the two parties and other people's hearing and oral rumors, it has never been found that the two have any contact experience. However, around Bing Xin's novel and Xu Zhimo's death, some grievances and grievances have been bred, and they have affected the younger generations. This may not have been thought of by Bing Xin and Lin Huiyin at the time. The group of academic celebrities that Bing Xin ridiculed in the novel has always been the best friends and bosom friends of Liang Sicheng and Lin Huiyin in the long river of time. And the most loyal participant of "Wife's Living Room" is the famous philosopher Jin Yuelin. For this reason, some people say that the reason why Lin Huiyin became Lin Huiyin is inseparable from Liang Sicheng, Jin Yuelin, and romantic Xu Zhimo. This phrase can be said to express the important influence and personality shaping of these three outstanding men on Lin Huiyin's life.According to Fei Weimei, Lin Huiyin's American girlfriend, "Huiyin and Sicheng treated him like honored guests. When he met them, Zhimo burst out with wit and enthusiasm. He was willing to introduce those like-minded friends to them... Undoubtedly, Xu Zhimo's greatest and lasting contribution to the Liang family at this time was the introduction of Jin Yuelin, one of his dearest friends, a professor of philosophy at Tsinghua University, the 'Lao Jin'."

Xu Zhimo introduced Lao Jin, and his emotions gradually transferred to another woman. This is Lu Xiaoman, a generation of socialite and socialite. When Lin Huiyin returned from England, Xu Zhimo divorced his first wife Zhang Youyi during the period when he and Liang Sicheng went to the United States to study and return to China, and then returned to China to marry Lu Xiaoman, the wife of Chinese military officer Wang Geng who graduated from the US Military Academy at West Point and a socialite in the capital. Process (Lu divorced her husband under Xu's obsession).Regarding this twists and turns, Liang Congjie once said: "Xu Zhimo's divorce and remarriage became known to almost everyone in the domestic cultural circle at that time. It is a pity that his remarriage later brought him more pain than joy." The facts are exactly as Liang Congjie said, after Xu Zhimo and Lu Xiaoman got married, they moved to their hometown Haining, Nanjing, Shanghai and other places to live. At the beginning of 1931, in order to take care of the newly married Lu Xiaoman's life and have fun with him, Xu Zhimo left his colleagues and friends in Beiping and went to Shanghai Guanghua University and Nanjing Central University to teach.Unexpectedly, less than a year after Xu arrived in the south, he turned into a fairy.

At 8:00 am on November 19, 1931, Xu Zhimo boarded the China Airlines "Jinan" postal plane from Nanjing to the north. He wanted to attend Lin Huiyin's lecture on Chinese architectural art for foreign envoys at the Concorde Auditorium in Peking that night. When the plane arrived in the Dangjiazhuang area in the south of Jinan, it was suddenly filled with fog and it was difficult to distinguish the course. In order to find the exact route, the pilot had to lower the flying altitude. Unexpectedly, the plane hit Baima Mountain (also known as Kaishan) and immediately fell into a valley.

When the bad news came, Lin Huiyin passed out on the spot.Liang Sicheng, Lin Huiyin, Zhang Xiruo, Chen Xueping, Qian Duansheng, Zhang Weici, Tao Menghe, Fu Sinian, etc. gathered at Hu Shi's home, and everyone was relatively sad. Zhang Xiruo burst into tears, and Lin Huiyin burst into tears. On the afternoon of the 22nd, Liang Sicheng, Zhang Xiruo, and Shen Congwen, who were appointed by colleagues in the academic circles in Peking, rushed to the scene of the Baima Mountain air crash in Jinan from Beiping and Qingdao respectively to collect Xu Zhimo's remains.Liang Sicheng brought a small wreath specially made by him and Lin Yuyin to express his condolences.

After the funeral, according to Lin Huiyin's instructions, Liang Sicheng brought back a small piece of the wreckage of the crashed plane. In the following years, this plane wreckage has been hung on the wall of Lin Huiyin's bedroom to express the eternal memory of Xu Zhimo. Xu Zhimo rides the wind to return, and the only men who know and love Lin Yuyin the most are Liang Sicheng and Lao Jin. Jin Yuelin is 6 years older than Liang Sicheng and 9 years older than Lin Huiyin. He is a veritable big brother in front of Liang and Lin.Since Xu Zhimo introduced him, Lao Jin has always been the most obsessed customer in Liang's salon. The Liang family and Lao Jin have the same cultural background, share similar interests, and their friendship is comparable to that of ordinary people.Lao Jin, who is alone and carefree, admires Lin Huiyin's character and talent extremely, and Lin also admires and loves this elder brother Jin very much. The spiritual communication between the two has reached a level that can only be understood but cannot be expressed in words Wonderful realm. After Xu Zhimo's death, the relationship between Jin and Lin became deeper and deeper, and finally reached a heart-to-heart bond, inseparable, sparks sparkled, and once reached the point where the mixture of dry wood and fire and ashes was out of control.

Regarding the love mystery between Jin and Lin, after Lin Huiyin died, Liang Sicheng once disclosed it.According to Liang's follow-up wife Lin Zhu: "I once asked Liang Gong about Jin Yuelin because Lin Huiyin never married. Liang Gong smiled and said: 'When we lived in Zongbu Hutong, Lao Jin lived in us. It may be in 1931, when I came back from my investigation in Baodi, Huiyin saw me crying and said that she was extremely distressed because she fell in love with two people at the same time and did not know what to do. She When I talked to me, it was not like a wife talking to her husband, but like a little sister asking her brother to make up her mind. Hearing this, I was speechless for a long time, and an indescribable pain gripped me tightly, and I felt The blood was also congealed, and it was difficult to breathe. But I am grateful to Huiyin, she did not treat me as a stupid husband, she was honest and trusting in me. I thought all night, what should I do? I asked myself, Huiyin in the end Happy with me or with Lao Jin? I repeatedly weigh myself, Lao Jin and Huiyin on the balance. I feel that although I have a certain degree of accomplishment in literature and art, I lack Lao Jin, the philosopher. I thought I was not as good as Lao Jin, so the next day, I told Huiyin the conclusion of thinking all night. I said she was free, and if she chose Lao Jin, I wish them happiness forever. We all cried. When Huiyin told Lao Jin what I said, Lao Jin replied: "It seems that Sicheng really loves you. I can't hurt a person who really loves you. I should quit." After that conversation, I never talked about this matter with Huiyin again. Because I know that Lao Jin is a man of his word. Huiyin is also an honest person. Later, the facts also proved this point, and the three of us have always been good friends. I often ask Lao Jin for advice when I encounter problems at work. Even when Huiyin and I quarrel, I often ask Lao Jin to "arbitrate" because he is always so rational and analyzes the problems that we are confused because of our emotions. Be clear'." Liang Sicheng further explained: "Lin Huiyin is a very special person, and her talents are multifaceted. Whether it is literature, art, architecture or even philosophy, she has a deep cultivation. She can be a rigorous scientific worker, and I went to remote villages to investigate ancient buildings together, and I was able to discuss British classic literature or Chinese new poetry creation with Xu Zhimo in English. She has the thinking of a philosopher and the ability to generalize things at a high level. So it is not easy to be her husband. There is a saying in China, "Articles are good for me, and my wife is good for others." But for me, it is good for my wife, and articles are good for my wife. I don't deny that being with Lin Huiyin is sometimes tiring, because Her mind is so active that you have to be as quick with her as you are with her, or you can't keep up with her." Judging from the reliable materials that have been handed down, the relationship between these three people is really a bit like a story in a Western novel. The ending of this story is: Jin and Lin have always loved each other, depended on each other, and lived together, but they could not form a husband and wife.Jin never married, waiting for Huiyin, but his fate was too bad. Huiyin died young, leaving Lao Jin as a lonely knight and traveling in love. When the fire of desire was extinguished, Jin Yuelin looked at his position rationally and rationally controlled his philosophy of life, often using "passing the day" to describe his long-term loneliness of not having a family. In the articles he wrote later, he gave a simple and purely superficial description of the intimate relationship between himself and Liang and Lin, and analyzed the feelings and feelings of "love" and "like".According to Lao Jin's logic: "Love and liking are two different emotions or feelings. The two are often unified, and there are many times when they are not unified. As far as people say, there may be very many. Love is about parents. A more natural feeling between husband and wife, sisters, brothers, they may like each other very much.” And “Like” refers to the joy between friends, it is the feeling between friends. My life is almost entirely friends life between".It can be seen that Lao Jin at this time has really hidden his love in his heart, and "likes" each other as pure friends with Liang and Lin. Because Lao Jin had too much morale or nerd in his daily life, there were many hilarious stories circulating in the academic circles of Peking at that time.Because Lao Jin is only obsessed with Lin Huiyin, he doesn't usually associate with other women (according to the South: only one Shen Xingren is an anomaly, which will be described in detail later), and he is not the kind of person who is too lively. Raising small animals such as chickens and crickets, unexpectedly, a strange thing happened in raising chickens and fighting crickets.According to Zhao Yuanren's wife, Yang Buwei, in his memoir "Miscellaneous Remembrances of the Zhao Family": Zhao's family was in Beijing, and one day, Jin Yuelin suddenly called Zhao Yuanren's family, saying that something happened at home, and asked Mrs. Zhao to come and help quickly (South Note: Yang Buwei originally studied medicine in Japan, specializing in obstetrics and gynecology).Yang Buwei thought that Lao Jin was making friends with Ms. Lilian Taylor at that time (according to the south: the blond foreign woman from the United States), and there might be some affair between men and women, so he went to have a look It turned out that an old hen of Jin's family couldn't lay eggs and got stuck in the middle of the rear window. In desperation, Lao Jin hurriedly asked Dr. Yang, a gynecological expert, to help with the delivery. This move made Yang Buwei dumbfounded, so many years later he still remembers it deeply. In addition to the above-listed, there are even more amazing people.According to Jin Yuelin's own recollection: Tao Menghe and Lao Jin were good friends in Peking, and Tao was also the guide who introduced Jin to eat Western food earlier in Peking. At that time, Tao lived in Beixinqiao, Beiping, and his phone number was Dongju No. 56. Jin Yuelin usually remembered it well, but one day he called Tao Menghe, and suddenly an accident happened. After Lao Jin called, the babysitter on the other end of the phone asked, "Where are you?" meaning who are you. When Lao Jin heard it, he forgot who he was for a moment, but he was embarrassed to say that he forgot, that is to say, the other party would not believe it. He must think it was a prank, but Lao Jin really forgot. After holding back for a long time, he got wise and said: "You don't care about me, just ask Mr. Tao to talk." But the little nurse still insisted: "No." After Lao Jin persuaded him for a long time, the other party still said no .In desperation, Lao Jin had no choice but to seek advice from Wang Xi, a rickshaw driver whom he had come to visit, and said, "Wang Xi, who do you think I am?" After hearing this, Wang Xi shook his head and replied impatiently: " I don't know who you are." Lao Jin said anxiously: "Have you never heard anyone say who I am?" Wang Xi turned his head and said, "I only heard someone called Dr. Jin." The word "Jin" made Lao Jin recovered from his confusion, and hurriedly replied: "Oh, I am Lao Jin!" The other end of the phone had already hung up. The above story is about Lao Jin's "crazy" and "stupid", while the next two examples are Lao Jin's "straight" and "stupid". Wu Mi, a talented student studying in the United States, director of Tsinghua Research Institute, and professor of the Department of Foreign Languages, is friendly with Lao Jin.Once, Wu couldn't hold back the torment of love, and openly published his love poems in the newspaper, including the sentence "Wu Mi loves Mao Yanwen bitterly, and the world of Jiuzhou is amazed".When everyone heard about it, there was an uproar, thinking that Wu had lost the dignity of a teacher and was out of order, so they recommended Lao Jin to persuade Wu, hoping that the other party would be more restrained in the future, and not show their sharpness, hurt others, and hurt themselves. Therefore, Lao Jin came to Wu in a daze and said: "We don't understand your poems, but the content is about your love, and it involves Mao Yanwen. This is not a matter of public publication. This is a private matter. Private matters should not It's advertised in the papers. We go to the bathroom every morning, but we don't advertise it." As soon as the words fell, Wu Mi was furious, slapped the table and shouted loudly: "Don't talk nonsense here, my love is not Mao Yanwen!" After hearing this, Lao Jin didn't know what to do, he was just as dumb as a log He stood there and listened to Wu scolding for a long time.Later, Lao Jin once self-reviewed and said: "I talked about love and going to the bathroom together. Although they are all private matters, they are really neither fish nor fowl." After the Marco Polo Bridge Incident in July 7th, Jin Yuelin left Beiping with the Liang family, and transferred to Tianjin for Changsha.Later, they arrived in Kunming successively.Liang and Lin continued to run the China Construction Society, while Lao Jin taught at the Department of Philosophy of Southwest Associated University, but still lived with the Liang family most of the time.According to Wang Zengqi, who was studying at Southwest Associated University at the time and listened to Lao Jin’s lectures, said: “Mr. Class students in class, his first sentence is always: "My eyes are wrong, I can't take off the hat, it's not disrespect to you, please forgive me." What's wrong with his eyes, I don't know, I just know that he is afraid of the sun Therefore, the front brim of his fedora hat was lowered, and his head was always tilted slightly. Later, he got a pair of glasses, one of which was white and the other was black. This was even more strange Yes. Later, during my lectures in the United States, my eyes were healed—he was better, and my glasses were changed, but the posture of slightly tilting my head has not changed. He is quite tall and often wears a tobacco-yellow suede Leather jacket, and when it’s cold, I wear a long camel-colored cashmere scarf inside... Except for the physical education teachers and professors, Mr. Jin seems to be the only one who wears a jacket. Even after he went to the United States for treatment, his eyes are still not clear. Great, the walking is a bit dark. He is wearing a yellow jacket, with his head slightly raised, walking on a dirt road in the new campus of the United Nations University." Lao Jin's characteristic and vivid image left a deep impression on the teachers and students of Southwestern Union who had attended the lectures and got acquainted with him.Wang Zengqi, who was born in the Chinese Department, also recalled: "Mr. Jin studies philosophy, but he has read a lot of novels. From Proust to Sherlock Holmes, he reads them all. I heard that he likes Ping Jiang's Unscrupulous Life "The Heroes of the Jianghu" A few students from the United Nations University lived in Jinji Lane. Mr. Shen (Congwen) sometimes invited an acquaintance to talk to a few students who were fond of literature and writing. Mr. Jin was also taken away once. The topic of his speech was "Fiction and Philosophy". The topic was given to him by Mr. Shen. Everyone thought that Mr. Jin would speak a lot of truths. Unexpectedly, after speaking for a long time, Mr. Jin came to the conclusion that novels and philosophy have nothing to do with each other. Someone asked: So what? Mr. Jin said: "The philosophy in Dream of the Red Chamber is not philosophy." He was talking, and suddenly stopped: "I'm sorry, I have a small animal here." He put his right hand into the back of his neck and caught it. I found a flea, pinched it in my finger and looked at it, I was very proud." What Wang Zengqi talked about was just a few funny episodes in his life. As far as Jin Yuelin is concerned, of course there is also his side of rigorous life and concern for the country and the people. Otherwise, Jin Yuelin will no longer be Jin Yuelin, but become Wang Yuelin or Zhang Yuelin, or even Zhang Yuelin. Xueliang is his father, Zhang Zuolin, a warlord who was born in Northeast China. Not many people really understand the logic philosophy that Lao Jin practiced all his life, but he is a leading master figure in his professional field. At that time, the School of Liberal Arts of Southwest Associated University offered a logic class in the first grade, and there were not many people who listened to it. There were only seven or eight students in each class, and only one or two students could really understand and comprehend the tricks.Regarding the profoundness and philosophy of this subject, Feng Youlan, who was in the Department of Philosophy with Jin, once said: "Mr. Jin also has an innate sense of logic. There is a Chinese proverb: 'Money is like dung, but friends are worth thousands of gold.' Jin The gentleman said that when he was a teenager, he felt that there was a problem with this proverb. If these two sentences were taken as the premise, the logical conclusion should be 'friends are like dung'. This is the opposite of the original meaning of this proverb." After the students who attended the United Nations University became teachers, they often used the example cited by Lao Jin as an auxiliary knowledge of logic to pass on to their own students, just to make it easier to understand. For example, it is illogical to say that "money is like dung, and benevolence and righteousness are worth a thousand pieces of gold." Since money is dung and benevolence and righteousness are worth money (a thousand pieces of gold), then benevolence and righteousness are also worth a thousand pieces of dung. One of the functions of logic is to train people's minds, develop the habit of careful thinking, and approach the truth step by step. For this esoteric knowledge, laymen can only watch the excitement, and it is rare to get a glimpse of the real mystery. There is a very important element of idealism in Jin Yuelin's learning. This ideal or dream is full of new thinking of Western modernism that opposes traditional Chinese concepts, and is quite maverick.Among the few students who listened to Lao Jin's logic class at the United Nations University, a student named Yin Fusheng was more active in class, and he seemed to have quite the essentials of Lao Jin's theory.Yin Fusheng (later renamed Yin Haiguang) once described the influence of Jin Yuelin on him in this way: "In such an atmosphere, I suddenly met Mr. Jin Yuelin, a professional teacher. It was like seeing the sun in a thick fog! This had a great impact on my life. He is not only a professor of logic and British empiricism, but also an intellectual with a strong sense of morality. Seven years of teaching in Kunming, severe judgments, and the call for moral consciousness are really true in retrospect. Forged my character and ideological life. Through my teacher, I came into contact with the most powerful thing in Western civilization - symbolic logic. It became my sharp weapon in the future. As for him, he is so substantive, rigorous, and Easy-going, humorous, high-style, never give compliments, never ambiguous when truth is false." Yin Fusheng, who was born in a missionary family in Huilongshan Town, Huanggang, Hubei Province in 1919, was fascinated by philosophy in middle school. He wrote to Jin Yuelin for help, and Lao Jin gave him selfless help.In his later years, Jin Yuelin wrote dozens of short and concise memoirs. One of them, "Zhang Dongsun Helped Me Join the Democratic League", clearly mentioned the sponsorship of Yin Fusheng's education, and he was very dissatisfied with Zhang Dongsun, then the dean of the Philosophy Department of Yenching University. The article said: "Part of my relationship with Zhang Dongsun is good, and the other part is unpleasant. Let me talk about the unpleasant part first. Yin Fusheng was a young man who wanted to learn logic at that time. He wrote to me to learn this knowledge. I asked Zhang Dongsun , Is there anything young people can do to get some money to live on. He said it would be easy. I let Yin Fusheng come to Beijing. After coming, Zhang Dongsun said that there was nothing for Yin to do. I had to maintain Yin’s life. How much time, forget it now." It is thanks to Jin Yuelin's funding and precepts and deeds that Yin Haiguang had the opportunity to go to Southwest Associated University and benefited a lot from Jin's philosophy. After arriving in Taiwan, Yin attracted a group of radical young people to watch and worship him with his big mouth and the intelligence of Hubei guys. He became famous for a while, and was known as the most influential scholar, political commentator, and philosopher in Taiwan in the 1950s and 1960s. He is an important representative of modern Chinese liberalism, a spiritual mentor of modern young intellectuals, and a glorious banner of liberalism flying over Taiwan Island. Perhaps, it was because of such a maverick student that many years later, Jin Yuelin's reputation was resounding in Taiwan, and he became a mysterious figure who could not be reached, and remained in the hearts of intellectuals.
