Chapter 33 postscript

This is the end of the story. I really want to express some of my views on the world through this book. One of the major themes of this book is about "power".The relationship in human society can actually be reduced to the relationship of power, whether it is the power to make others obey or the power to eliminate others. These are clearly analyzed in Mr. Yan Jiaqi's book "On the Summit", so I won't repeat them here. But until the end, I didn't give the reader any clear answer. I have always believed that literature must be about people and society; but the most important responsibility of a novel author is to tell a beautiful story, not to try to prescribe medicine for mankind.

The most important answer has always been to find it on your own. This last volume is mainly about revolution. Anyone who is more concerned about the outside world has to admit that there are still many serious problems, many injustices and poverty in this world today. The world needs to change. As for the method of change? Many people have tried revolution in the past. But the price of the bloody revolution was too great. And history has told us many times that successful revolutions often end up with a more extreme and less tolerant world. To try to change what has been established with violence...is a waste of time.

However, do we give up on changing and accept that everything is normal, even destiny? Buddhism only talks about karma, not fate; I, who named this book "Killing Zen", am not a Buddhist, but I also cannot accept fate.I am convinced that there must be other and better ways to improve the world. And there are also successful examples. Especially in this era when information technology is spreading rapidly and ordinary people have more and more speaking power.Basically, I'm optimistic. I like a saying very much: "If the earth is a spaceship, each of us is the pilot." When many people change themselves at the same time, maybe the world will change.

Finally, a quote from one of my favorite songs, Bob Marley's "Redemption Song": Emancipate yourself from mental slavery Free yourself from spiritual slavery None but ourselves can free our minds No one can free our minds but ourselves To all those who love freedom. Qiao Jingfu July 3, 2006
