陆菲青再问余鱼同，该到何处去报信求援，红花会后援何时可到。余鱼同道：“红花会十二位香主，除了这里的文四当家和骆十一当家，都已会集安西。大伙请少舵主总领会务，少舵主却一定不肯，说他年轻识浅，资望能力差得太远，非要二当家无尘道长当总舵主不可。无尘道长又哪里肯？现下僵在那里，只等四当家与十一当家一到，就开香堂推举总舵主。谁知他们两位竟在这里被困。大家眼巴巴地正在等他们呢。” 陆菲青喜道：“安西离此不远，贵会好手大集。张召重再强，又怕他何来？”余鱼同向文泰来道：“少舵主派我去洛阳见韩家的掌门人，分说一件误会，那也不是十万火急之事。小弟先赶回安西报信，四哥你瞧怎么样？”他在会中位分远比文泰来为低，遇到疑难时按规矩要听上头的人吩咐。文泰来沉吟未答。陆菲青道：“我瞧这样，你们三人马上动身去铁胆庄，安顿好后，余贤侄就径赴洛阳。到安西报信的事就交给我去办。” 文泰来不再多说。彼此是成名英雄，这样的事不必言谢，也非一声道谢所能报答，从怀中拿出一朵大红绒花，交给陆菲青道：“前辈到了安西，请把这朵花插在衣襟上，敝会自有人来接引。”骆冰扶起文泰来下地。余鱼同把地下两具尸体提到炕上，用棉被蒙住。陆菲青打开房门，大模大样地踱出来，上马向西疾驰而去。 过了片刻，余鱼同手执金笛开路，骆冰一手撑了一根门闩，一手扶着文泰来走出房来。掌柜的和店伙连日见他们恶战杀人，胆都寒了，站得远远的哪敢走近。余鱼同将三钱银子抛在柜上，说道：“这是房饭钱！我们房里有两件贵重物事存着，谁敢进房去，少了东西回来跟你算账。”掌柜的连声答应，大气也不敢出。店伙把三人的马牵来，双手不住发抖。文泰来两足不能踏镫，左手在马鞍上一按，一借力，轻轻飞身上马。余鱼同赞道：“四哥好俊功夫！”骆冰嫣然一笑，上马提缰，三骑连辔往东。 余鱼同在镇头问明了去铁胆庄的途径，三人放马向东南方奔去，一口气走出十五六里地，一问行人，知道过去不远就到。骆冰暗暗欣慰，心知只要一到铁胆庄，丈夫就是救下来了。铁胆庄周仲英威名远震，在西北黑白两道无人不敬，天大的事也担当得起，只消缓得一口气，红花会大援便到，鹰爪子便来千军万马，也总有法子对付。 一路上乱石长草，颇为荒凉。忽听马蹄声急，迎面奔来三乘马。马上两个是精壮汉子，另一人身材甚是魁伟，白须如银，脸色红润，左手呛啷啷地弄着两个大铁胆。交错而过之时，三人向文泰来等看了一眼，脸现诧异之色，六骑马奔驰均疾，霎时之间已相离十余丈。余鱼同道：“四哥四嫂，那位恐怕就是铁胆周仲英。”骆冰道：“我也正想说。似他这等神情，决非寻常人物，手里又拿着两个铁胆。”文泰来道：“多半是他。但他走得这么快，怕有急事，半路上拦住了问名问姓，总是不妥。到铁胆庄再说吧。” 又行数里，来到铁胆庄前。其时天色向晚，风劲云低，夕照昏黄，一眼望去，平野莽莽，无边无际的衰草黄沙之间，唯有一座孤零零的庄子。三人日暮投庄，求庇于人，心情郁郁，俱有凄怆之意。缓缓纵马而前，见庄外小河环绕，河岸遍植杨柳，柳树上却光秃秃的一张叶子也无，疾风下柳枝都向东飘舞。庄外设有碉堡，还有望楼吊桥，气派甚大。 庄丁请三人进庄，在大厅坐下献茶。一位管家模样的中年汉子出来接待，自称姓宋，名叫善朋，随即请教文泰来等三人姓名。三人据实说了。 宋善朋听得是红花会中人物，心头一惊，忙道：“久仰久仰，听说贵会在江南开山立柜，一向很少到塞外来呀。不知三位找我们老庄主有何见教？真是失敬得很，我们老庄主刚出了门。”一面细细打量来人。红花会威震天下，自是素所尊崇，但知红花会与老庄主从无交往，这次突然过访，来意善恶，难以捉摸，言辞之间，不免显得有些迟疑冷淡。 文泰来听得周仲英果不在家，陆菲青那封信也就不拿出来了，见宋善朋虽然礼貌恭谨，何畏畏缩缩一副拒人于千里之外的神情，心下有气，便道：“既然周老英雄不在家，就此告退。我们前来拜庄，也没什么要紧事，只是久慕周老英雄威名，顺道瞻仰。这可来得不巧了。”说着扶了椅子站起。宋善朋道：“不忙不忙，请用了饭再走吧。”转头向一名庄丁轻轻说了几句话，那庄丁点头而去。文泰来坚说要走。宋善朋道：“那么请稍待片刻，否则老庄主回来，可要怪小人怠慢贵客。”说话之间，一名庄丁捧出一只盘子，盘里放着两只元宝，三十两一只，共是六十两银子。宋善朋接过盘子，对文泰来道：“文爷，这点不成敬意。三位远道来到敝庄，我们没好好招待，这点点盘费请赏脸收下。” 文泰来听了，勃然大怒，心想我危急来投，你把我当成江湖上打抽丰的来啦。他一身傲骨，这次来铁胆庄本已万分委屈，岂知竟受辱于伧徒。骆冰见丈夫脸上变色，轻轻在他手上一捏，要他别发脾气。文泰来按捺怒气，左手拿起元宝，说道：“我们来到宝庄，可不是为打抽丰，宋朋友把人看小啦。”宋善朋连说“不敢”，心里却说：“你不是打抽丰，怎么银子又要拿？”他知道红花会声名大，是以送的程仪特别从丰。 文泰来“嘿嘿”一声冷笑，把银子放回盘中，说道：“告辞了。”宋善朋一看之下，大吃一惊。两只好端端的元宝，已被他单手潜运掌力，捏成一个扁扁的银饼，他又是羞惭，又是着急，心想：“这人本领不小，怕是来寻仇找晦气的。”忙向庄丁轻声嘱咐了几句，叫他快到后堂报知大奶奶，自己直送出庄，连声道歉。文泰来不再理他。三名庄丁把客人的马匹牵来，文泰来与余鱼同向宋善朋一抱拳，说声“叨扰”，随即上马。
