妙一真人命传众弟子进殿。徐祥鹅领命，去到殿门外面，一声传呼。众男女弟子立时整肃衣裳，肃恭而进，到了众仙座前，一同参拜。妙一真人吩咐起立，男左女右，侍立两侧。温语谕道：“日前仙府宏开，尔众弟子曾经拜读长眉师祖恩谕，晓示尔等为完师祖和我当年宏愿，日内必须分遣尔等众弟子下山行道，修积外功。此虽修道人应有的功果，只是目前异派蜂起，群邪狡猖。尔众弟子多半入门年浅，功力不济，所赖根骨深厚，缘福遇合，得有今日。本身法力虽弱，而遭逢异数，际遇良多，各人所得法宝飞剑，十九异宝奇珍，遇合之奇，所获之厚，远胜前修。用以护身御敌，遇见稍差一点的邪魔外道，未始不能以之取胜；即或遇见强敌，尔等群策群力，同心御敌，复有各位师长前辈随时救助，也不是不能成功。但毕竟修业太浅，各异派妖人邪术厉害，稍一不慎，为所诱惑，难保不身败名裂，玷辱师门。法力深浅还在其次，只要能知奋勉，行道之暇，随时勤修苦炼，同样可以与日精进，道心之坚定与否，却是最关紧要。本来众弟子何人可在此时下山，师祖仙敕已多示及。一则借此磨，使尔等知道成败所关，以资警惕；二则留山修炼，操行艰苦，虽然迟早成就一样，但人多好胜，大都羞为人后。如不经此一试，尔等表面功力多半相等，未必心悦诚服。为此当众晓谕：不论何人，凡志愿首次下山行道者，左元十三限和右元火宅严关，任择其一，通行无阻，始可重来前殿，与下山诸同门会集，听我传授口诀，铜椰岛事完，分别就道。否则暂时便不能再至前殿，可以前往左元洞外崖壁上，自择可以容身的小洞，闭关潜修，由各位师长时往传授指点；修到功候，二次仍要通行以上两洞关口，方得下山。这两洞所设，为修道人成败关头，虽然通行过去，无异获得异日成道之券，但是奥妙无穷，厉害非常。稍一不慎，轻则灵元耗损，身心两伤；重则走火入魔，身僵如同木石，须受多年苦难，还须坚忍强毅，奋志勤修，始得复原；再重一些，便须重堕轮回，转劫能否再来，俱不一定。关系尔等本身吉凶，实非小可。如若自审道力不济，尽可言明，知难而退，不必勉强。虽仍须往左元洞壁苦修，但不经以上两洞险难，人却可以好好的，免受一番损耗忧危，修为起来，也较好些。此次为师等不作主张，任凭尔等自择。大弟子诸葛警我和岳雯、郑八姑等男女数弟子，功力较深，尚可通行无阻，现令先往通行，尔等随同前往。此时禁制发动，两洞出入途径，均已现出，与先前大不相同。到了那里，如觉有此勇气，无须再来禀告，可俟诸葛警我等通行过去，由他领导指点，循径而入。能通行的，自来此地相见；不能的，备就崖洞修炼。使尔等目睹难易，自定去留，免致后悔。愿留山者，告知诸葛警我，他自会开放门户，引往坐关之所。此事全仗自身定力智慧，受害也视此为轻重。一切身经，也因人而异，差之毫厘，谬以千里。也无须向过来人多事探询，徒乱人意，于事无补，心有成见，反倒不妥。到时如觉难于自制，务把元关要穴牢牢守住，丝毫松懈不得。尔众弟子，勉力自爱，可自去吧。 " 众弟子随同叩谢师恩，由诸葛警我等为首四弟子率领，先往少元洞走去。那去右元洞的道路，原有两途：一是日前小仙童虞孝、铁鼓吏狄鸣岐没走完的一条道路，乃以后初次入门弟子必由之径；一是不经下面峡谷，经由崖顶通行。到了尽头，崖势忽然降低十余丈，在三面危崖环绕之中，现出一片形如圆盂的盆地。当中有一座十丈方圆的石崖，石质如玉，正中一洞，门额上有“灵虚可接”四个朱书古篆，此是右元洞的出口。那入口尚在崖后。众弟子先到少元洞前会齐。 到时，亥正将过，诸葛警我令众暂停。说道：“今日之举，关系我等成败。适才掌教师尊恩谕已经言明，诸位师弟师妹当已谨记在心，毋庸多说了。我和岳师弟与郑、齐二位师妹奉命领众，往左右两洞通行，照说在此问明各人心意所择，便可分途领往。但据我所知，这两处难关神妙精微虽是一样，内中却有一点分别。火宅严关看似最难最险，但是关口只有一处，只要内火不生，外火不煎，道心坚定，能将元神守住，不为情欲杂念所扰，说过便过，脱险极快，难也难到极处，容易起来也极容易。性情强毅坚忍的人，比较相宜。心性柔弱，易受摇动，克制功夫稍差的人，却万去不得，一有失足，立即走火入魔，后悔无及了。左元洞难关，虽有十三道之多，过完一道又是一道，六贼七害，动念即至，防不胜防，但是势较柔和，为害较轻。尤可侥幸的是哪怕身入困境，只要聪明灵慧，能知警觉，便可化险为夷。再往前进，只要能连耐过十三次魔头侵扰，哪怕定力稍次，但能悬崖勒马，临机省悟，仍可勉强通过。即或不然，最厉害也不过元气耗损，晕倒在内，修炼些日，即可复原。不似右元火宅，一经沉溺，便身受大害，不可收拾。心念虽不坚强，而性情温和，聪明善悟的人，均可一试。心性急躁，没有耐性的人，去了却易偾事。师尊虽以我等四人或是入门时久，或是修道年多，令作引导。但我等四人也是初试，能否从容通行，虽难自信，听师尊所说，料不致有甚凶险。诸位师弟师妹修为较浅，却真大意不得。好在师尊并未指定分途前往，为此我想稍微取点巧，暂不分路，一同先去右元洞，由我四人先各通行一次，如觉胜任，再往左元洞十三限，也过上一回。师尊虽说身经景象不同，多所询问徒乱人意，于事无补，但以我四人同经两处难关，互相参考，为大家分辨出点难易，总还可以办到的。”众人俱知诸葛警我人最长厚，对于同门师弟妹，更是无分先后进，一体爱护，知无不言，言无不尽。但能为力，无不尽心，任劳任过，均非所计。岳雯、郑八姑、齐灵云三人，也和他大致相同，表率群伦。闻言知为众同门犯险尽力，好生欣喜，无不应命，便随诸葛警我取路前往。 到后一看，那右元洞三面危崖环峙，独崖后正洞入口一面，是条白玉甬路，由少元洞右一片茂林和十来处楼台亭馆绕来，沿途景物备极清丽。快到洞前，忽然一水前横，宽约三丈，将路隔断。对岸设着一个悬桥，众人到时，刚刚自行落下，桥侧也无盘索之类。过去方是元洞入口，洞门上刻“火宅严关”四个朱书古篆，两旁另有好些符箓。门颇高大，整洁异常。诸葛警我等四人中，只灵云一人在开府创设左右二元洞时，另有使命离开，不曾随侍，虽然见到一些，未知底细。方觉与那次所见景物形势都不一样，及问八姑，才知两洞禁制重重，神妙无穷，休说洞中火宅严关，便是外景也可变易。那日因为不少异派中人假名观光，随同游历全府，居心多不可问，始而想乘隙扰害，暗中闹鬼；及见出手的妖人纷纷伏诛挫败，不敢妄动，表面敛迹，仍在逐处留心，一半学乖，一半窥探底细，以为日后重来之计。掌教真人表面故作不知，实则防备甚严。尤其这左右两洞关系重地，多用仙法变易，当时所见，多非实境。休说那些异派妖人，便自己这面好些位得道多年的仙人，也多半被瞒过去，事后方始知悉。 八姑说完，诸葛警我已将众人领至门前分列，说道：“本来师尊之命，入洞的人，通行火宅之后，便由前门出去，沿着崖上路径，去往前殿，无须来此。洞中遇险，被困在内，也另有师长恩施格外，前往救援，由我四人送往左元洞壁穴中修炼。通过与否，隔着洞门，均可看出。上下四外，均有禁制，循径前行，一步也错不得。只我四人，那日拜读祖师仙敕，并各赐有一道灵符，可以随意前后往来，是个例外。郑师妹较我修为年岁尤久，我和岳师弟本不应占先，无如师命难违，既然忝列众同门之长，只好僭妄一试了。”说罢，便朝洞门恭谨参拜起立，令众留意。然后沉稳心神，运用玄功，从容往内走进。众人隔洞遥窥，见诸葛警我安然步入，先前并无异状。进约丈许，忽见洞中云烟变幻，晃眼仍复原状，人已无踪。跟着又见一片极淡薄祥光，一闪而灭。岳雯喜道：“今日才见大师兄的功力，果自高深，这么快便出险了。”众人闻言，有的尚在思忖，觉着太易，诸葛警我已驾遁光，越崖飞来。众人笑问：“洞中经历如何？”诸葛警我答道：“这火宅通行，真非容易。我起初以为，只要道心坚定，神智灵明，便可无碍，不为魔邪所扰。哪知即此一念，已落下乘。前半尚可，到了紧要关头，忽生异相，如非发觉尚早，赶紧湛定神思，返虚生明，就这样几微之间，纵不致为所败，要想从容过去，却也费事呢。愚兄本意，先勉为其难，略徇私情，将洞中虚实，一得之见，告知诸位同门，以资参证，俾到时稍有补益。照此看来，只好各凭福缘，自然应付，别人是爱莫能助了。”有的自加谨畏，别具会心；有的仍是将信将疑，俱觉全洞前后十来丈远近，御剑飞行，瞬息过完，只要到时按定心思，不起杂念，当无败理。各有各的打算，正在寻思。 底下该当岳雯进去。岳雯也是照样朝洞通诚礼拜，然后走进。却不似诸葛警我那样安步而入，一起步便身剑合一，化成一道金光，飞将进去。那景象也大不相同，刚飞入内，满洞忽起祥氛，遥望烟云变幻，霞辉急漩如潮，将金光卷去不见，电转云飞，待了好一会儿，尚未停歇，也未见人回转。众人见状，方在惊疑，诸葛警我笑说：“无妨。岳师弟功力不在我以下，只比我少了东海十九年面壁之功。又听我那般说法，心有警觉，不求有功，但求无过，宁费一点心力，拼却艰难困苦，不肯步我后尘，以本身法力和坚忍强毅，战胜魔头。似此守定一心，虽然不免身受一点苦难，却较我的走法稳妥。此时他已十九完功，决无败理，稍待一会儿，也就来了。”语声才住，一道金光自空飞堕，岳雯现身，说道：“好险！”众人问他经历，岳雯答说：“我无大师兄的道力，不能以玄门上乘功夫从容通行，只用飞剑法宝护身，守定心神，以下乘功夫冒险闯过，阻碍有所不免。但这种走法，与后去诸位同门多半相同，而身经决不一样。先有成见，易添魔扰，故而不能详说。去时，最好把心灵守定，不起杂念，虽在飞行，仍照日常入定，偶遇功力精进，魔头来袭时光景，任何磨折艰难不去睬它，至多受点幻景中苦痛，只要道力坚定，便能熬过去了。” 当岳雯未出之时，郑八姑对齐灵云说：“我二人道力，俱不如二位师兄，通行两处难关，实非易事。我二人又忝居女同门之长，如有失陷，殊难为情。师妹年龄虽小，一入门便是玄门正宗，根基先就扎好，尚可无碍。我虽再劫之身，修为年久，可惜以前走错了路，自荷师恩收录，传以心法，顿悟昨非，豁然省悟，论起法术，比师妹自不逞多让；如论道力，恐以始基之外，修道年久反倒吃亏。幸而有这粒雪魂珠，占了不少便宜。我二人如学大师兄那样，以上乘功力通行，恐怕求荣反辱。还是照岳师兄那等走法，略受一点魔难，却是稳妥。最好我二人联为一体，我用雪魂珠变化元神，将你护持，却用你的道基定力，助我过去。这样相辅而行，万无一失。也许连内中磨折，还可少受许多。师妹以为如何？”灵云对八姑甚是敬服，知她用雪魂珠化身，决能通过，但以劫后余身，心存谨畏。深悉火宅玄关微妙，惟恐万一有失，欲使二人合为一体，彼此相助，实为万全。闻言喜诺，便和众人说了。诸葛警我笑道：“火宅玄机微妙，纵千百人进去，到了里面，如非同一功力心境，有一人稍有动念，便自
