到后一看，当日壑底火烟，越发浓密，腾腾上涌，黑烟如潮，滚滚飞扬，中杂大小火柱，由千寻壑底朝上冲射，轰轰之声震耳欲聋，大量火烟已快透出两边崖岸之上，天空被映成了暗赤颜色。当顶一片广约千百丈，更如血也似红，也分不出是云是雾。时闻壑腰巨石危崖被火烧熔，朝下崩坠，发为巨震，以及沙石冲射激撞之声，合成巨响。震得山摇地撼，浓烟火柱之外，大量碎石沙砾满处飞舞，互相摩擦，发出来的火星弥漫全壑，明灭万变，宛如亿万星砂所组成的一片火海。身在隐形壁防护之下，虽未受到毒火奇势侵害，稍一近前，便觉火力奇猛，前进甚难。有时又觉出火洞中具有极强大的吸力，似要将人裹去。威势猛恶，委实惊人，从来未见。暗忖：“这等凶狂的地火毒焰，虽有法宝防身，人在上面还未下去，尚且如此厉害，再过些日火势更猛，硬要由这千寻烈火之中，冲入壑底毒火发源之处，取那藏珍，更不知如何艰危凶险。照着各位仙长神僧所说口气，分明非由正面下去不可。蛮都、乌龙即便开通地底秘径，也只到达火穴附近，入内照样艰难。就算由彼入内，火口正路的奇险仍难避免。见了女怪人，至多问出火窟形势，并无大助。还有怪人父子已奉神僧之命，说时机将至，许其来此救妻复仇。别时曾经约定，不知何故尚未前来。” 初意这等猛恶的烈火，两边崖壁全都烧红，熔石沸浆如瀑布也似，一条条顺着缺口飞舞滚泻，洞中山石已全酥熔，如非法宝防身，休说在此立足，人早烧成劫灰。及至到后一看，那崖洞孤悬崖腰近顶之处，相隔上面不过七八十丈。因其崖势内凹，往里深入，洞口一带漱泉流溢，石红如火，内里仍是好好的。最奇的是，外面那等酷热，有如火海，入口丈许，竟然发现一种紫红色的苔薛。二人因知火势猛恶，法宝不能离身，未敢冒失尝试。后见越往里去，这类苔薛越多，内里阴森森的，并还闻得水声。心想：“此是金铁石土，挨着消熔的烈火地狱，怎会还有苔薛之类生物？难道还有阴凉所在暗藏于此？”为防万一，把身后行囊中的干粮取了一块，掷出宝光之外一试，未见热烟冒起，与初来时在崖顶用干肉试探，一离宝光，便自烧焦，情景迥不相同。伸手向外又试了一下，除觉洞外一面天时炎热而外，并不十分难耐，洞内深处却似有凉气吹来。料定内里阴凉，中有奇景。便把法宝收去，拿在手内，戒备前行。一时好奇，想探洞中底细，把初来时招呼壑底怪人之念竟然忘却。 那洞深约三两里，越往里走，气候越凉，好似初冬光景，已不再觉炎热。快到尽头，忽见前面暗影中水光闪动。过去一看，原来对面洞壁往里凹进，当中一个形似半月的圆洞，高约丈许，上面崖洞形似半伞，向外突出。洞前有一月牙形的石缝，长约两丈，恰将圆洞圈住。由缝中喷出一般弧形清泉，朝上斜射。洞顶也有一湾同样大小的石缝，宽约尺许，将下面喷出来的泉水接住。上下两缝大小相同，石质又极坚莹，温润如玉，便鬼斧神工也不过如此整齐。那泉水只是薄薄一层，乍看仿佛由上面抛下来一幅弧形鲛绢，不经注视，决看不出是由下而上。最奇的是上面石缝宽如巨吻弯张，神龙吸水，那大片月牙形的喷泉常年朝上喷射，丝毫不见外溢，四边全无水湿之痕。仅闻水声轰轰，由地底深处往上传来。还未近前，便觉奇寒之气逼人，不可以近。喷泉虽然薄如轻绢，但是又匀又急，反光甚强。洞本深黑，尽头近水之处吃水光一映，竟是纤微毕现，整洁异常。渐渐看出内洞比外面高大得多，广约二三亩，通体洞壁浑成，质如
