Chapter 1 sequence

Bad omen 斯蒂芬·金 991Words 2018-03-12
Once upon a time, but not so long ago, a demon came to the small town of Castle Rock, Maine. He killed a waitress named Alma Fletchert in 1970; a woman named Pauline Tutaker and a junior high school student named Cheryl Moody in 1971 ; in 1974, a sweet little girl named Carol Dubargo; in 1975, a teacher named Aita Ringoed; Drazen's elementary school students. He wasn't a werewolf, or a vampire, or a ghoul, or some unnameable guy from an enchanted forest or a snowy wasteland, he was just a cop named Frank Dude with mental and sexual problems. Later, a good man named John Smith found out his name by a kind of magic, but before he could be caught--maybe that's good too--Frank Dodd committed suicide.

There was some panic, sure, but mostly rejoicing in that small town that the demon that haunted so many people's dreams was dead, dead at last. A small town's nightmare is buried with Frank Dodd. But even in this age of enlightenment, when so many parents already know that what they do and say can be psychologically damaging to their children, there must be a father somewhere in Castle Rock, or a mother— — or maybe an old grandmother — who, in order to calm the children down, will tell them that if they don't behave, Frank Dude will have them arrested.Of course, when the kids looked out their darkened windows, they fell silent, and they thought of Frank Dodd in his glowing black vinyl raincoat, it was him, Frank Dodd.

He strangled... and strangled... and strangled... He is there. When the wind whistled through the chimney pipes and the old pot lids buzzed in the grommet, I could hear the old grandmother whisper, he's there, if you don't be a good boy, the house When everyone else is asleep, it may be his face that comes in from your bedroom window; it may be his face that looks straight at you from the closet secretly in the middle of the night, and his face will have a smile on his face. A smile, holding in one hand the stop sign he used to cross the road holding the children's hands, and the razor he used to kill himself in the other...so...shh, kids...shh ...shh...

But at most, it's over when it's over. There would be nightmares, of course, and children with their eyes open all night, and the empty Dodd house (Dud's mother died of a stroke shortly thereafter). It quickly gained a notoriety as a "ghost house", and no one dared to live in it anymore. But these will be only temporary effects of the inevitability of a spate of senseless murders ─ and that will be a thing of the past. Time flies, five years have passed. The demon is gone, the demon is dead.Frank Dude rotted in his coffin. But demons never die. Werewolves, ghouls, vampires, and nameless creatures from the wasteland... demons never die.

In the summer of 1980, Castle Rock, it came again.
