Chapter 21 Section Thirteen

Lan Yueer climbed up the hillside. This stone-built church is like a big rattle, and the cross on the dome is the handle of the big rattle. The whole building looks like God used a big rattle to cover the hill of this small town. Lan Yue'er slowly raised her face and stared at the cross on the top of the church. The feeling of sacredness and reverence before suddenly disappeared, and there was a strange and disturbing look in her eyes. She pushed open a heavy wooden door and stepped into the empty church.Twelve candles flickered in the brass candlesticks of the altar.Seven alabaster statues of saints stand behind the altar, holding a string of rosary beads in their hands, with different expressions, but their eyes all reflect solemnity and kindness, like the most holy pursuit in the world.

On the left side of the altar stands a golden harp, silently speaking. She moved along the aisle between the seats on both sides, and came to the statues of saints. "Tell me! I'm not a vampire." Her mournful voice echoed from the dome of the stone church. The saints seemed silent. "Isn't every child holy when it's born? Why am I a vampire's child! I haven't done anything bad, I've never hurt anyone. Why turn me into that kind of monster!" she cried miserably Yelling, "What did I do wrong? God is going to punish me like this! I wasn't the one who slept with the vampire!"

Everything was silent, only the sound of her weeping while covering her face. She raised her head suddenly, stared angrily at the statues of saints, and said loudly: "You are so unfair! So unfair! You can take away my beauty! Take away my singing! I just want to do A good man, don't send me to hell, I beg you." On the stained glass of the dome of the church, a black spider weaves a web in a panic, as if it wants to weave it quickly and hide in it. "Did you hear that? Answer me!" Tears of grief and indignation rolled in her eyes. She looked directly at the statue of the saint, not knowing that her face had become beautiful but hideous.

"Did you listen to me! I want you to tell me that I'm not a vampire! Say it!" She roared, two lines of tears wet the pink face and drew an arc on it. The statues of the saints still looked down upon her in silence. "It's a lie! Everything here is a lie! You can't protect me!" she yelled in pain. The seven statues of saints holding rosary beads suddenly and slowly shed two lines of tears, which were red, like blood gushing from their eyes. Lan Yueer laughed wildly, pointed at the saints and said, "Are you even afraid? You useless liars, I shouldn't be begging you at all!"

The bat felt her anger too.A gust of wind blew up, and suddenly, a group of vampire bats flew in from the open door of the church, bared their teeth, spread their huge wings, and flew over her head.Seven of them threw themselves on the heads of the seven weeping saints, uttered a scream of rage, and sealed the faces of the saints in their wings. The rest of the bats flung themselves on the candlesticks, and with their outstretched wings rolled up the burning white candles. A string of beads on the altar caught fire first, and the whole altar collapsed in flames. Lan Yue'er looked up at the headless statues of saints, uttered a bleak and terrible sneer, then turned around suddenly, walked towards the door of the church with hobbled steps, and said with care: "There is no one but him." stuff, only darkness..."
