Chapter 52 Section Thirteen

Bill Bundy cross-examines: "Remember June 14th of this year when you said at your bail hearing that you didn't know Jimmy was buried under a flower bed?" "Remember." "Were you lying then, or are you lying now?" "That was a lie." "You just said that you were arrested once before for shooting your second husband, Billy Long, in the back twice." "Not the back, but the belly and sides." Bill didn't bother to pester her with details, and he continued, "Did you ever get arrested a second time for 'public lewdness' at the 'Charlie's Angels' nightclub in Dallas on August 23, 1979?"

"That's not the case." "You remember that drunk named Archie Phillips?" "do not remember." "Do you remember that you were jailed for 30 days and fined $250 for this?" "Yes, I admit it." "Did you claim twice from the insurance company after Jimmy's house in Oak Gap caught fire in January of this year?" "On one occasion, I don't understand why they didn't pay." Bill Bandy asked, "When Robin was arrested for stealing, you hired a lawyer for him, right?" "Yes, Erie Unrus." "Is it Irri Unrus who accused Robin of murder in this court?" Bill Bundy called out. "What are you talking about? I can't hear." Betty adjusted her hearing aid.

Bill Bandy stopped asking.He didn't need Betty's answer at all, this was for Irri Unrus. At the end of the day's testimony, Bill Bandy asked, "During the bail hearing on June 14th, why didn't you mention that Robin killed Jimmy?" "have no idea." On the second day of Betty's testimony, Iree Unrus tried to make amends for yesterday's last question. "Mrs. Pitts, have you and Robin discussed how you will deal with Jimmy's body if someone finds it?" "I told him to push everything on me." "Why didn't you tell the truth until now?"

"I don't remember their names. Li Er, the proprietress at Redwood Wharf, called later, but the Coast Guard must have called first." Irri Unrus gave up and handed Betty to Bill Bundy, thinking, "Let her play with him for a while, I really need to rest."
