Chapter 31 Chapter Thirty-One

Location - The Chimney Building.Thursday at eleven o'clock. Constable Johnson, with his sleeves rolled up, was digging a grave. There was a funeral atmosphere in the air.Relatives and friends stood around the grave that Johnson dug. George Lomax had the air of the middle finger of a deceased man who was the chief beneficiary. The Chief Inspector of Combat was still expressionless, but the funeral arrangement was very proper, and he was very happy. All of this was undertaken by him, and everything reflects his credit. The Marquess of Juddham showed the serious and excited expression which an Englishman puts on during religious ceremonies.

Mr. Fish was at odds with the picture. He is not serious enough. Johnson bent over and was busy digging.Suddenly, he straightened up.There was a little tension in the crowd around me. "That's all right, boy," said Mr. Fish. "Now we'll be fine." Now we can see that he is actually a family doctor. Johnson stepped back.Mr. Fish, with proper solemnity, bent over the grave. "The doctor is about to operate." He produced a small canvas bag and handed it to the Chief Combat Inspector very politely. The inspector general handed it to George Lomax in order.Everything now proceeds carefully and according to routine.

George Lomax opened the little bag, and the tarpaulin inside, and examined the contents further inside. He put something on the palm of his hand for a moment—then, immediately, wrapped it in cotton again. He sweeps and sweeps his throat. "At this auspicious hour," he began, his words distinctly in the tune of a trained orator. Lord Judham fled suddenly. He bumps into his daughter on the porch. "Banduo, can your car drive?" "Okay, why?" "Take me to London at once. I want to go abroad at once—today." "But, Dad—" "Bando, don't argue with me. Sir Lomax told me when he arrived this morning that he was anxious to speak to me privately about a very difficult matter. He added. The king is coming to London soon. Bondo, I'm not going to play that game again. Bondo, do you hear me? Not even fifty George Lomaxes come to persuade me. The Chimney House is a great deal to the country. So valuable, well, let the state buy it. Otherwise, I'm going to sell it to a corporate organization. They can turn it into a hotel."

"Where is Cordes now?" Duo wants to show her ability to adapt. "At this moment," Lord Judham answered her, looking at his watch. "His great treatise on the British Empire will take at least ten minutes to translate." Another screen: Bill Eversley was on the phone; he hadn't been invited to the funeral. "No, seriously, I mean it... Hey, don't lose your temper... Well, anyway, you're going to have dinner with me tonight, okay?... No, I haven't. I've been working hard .You don't know what Cordes is like--Hey, Dodo, you know how I treat you--You know, I've never liked any girl but you...Yes, I'll go to the theater first. How about that old joke? 'Try it, little sister, undo the brass buttons'..."

Unusual sound.Eversley tried to recite the above refrain. Now, George's spouting speech is coming to an end. "...perpetual peace and prosperity of the British Empire!" "I suppose," muttered Mr. Fish to himself, and to the world at large. "It's been a colorful week, I think."
