阿拉丁在集市上，碰到一个卑鄙、贪婪的犹太人，鬼头鬼脑地纠缠着要买那个盘子。他把阿拉丁带到僻静的地方，仔细一再估量，最后确信盘子是纯金的名贵物品，所以决心收买。但是他不知阿拉丁是否识货，他估计，阿拉丁还只是一个毛孩子，也许根本不懂这些，于是便直接了当地对阿拉丁说： “我的小主人，这个盘子你打算卖多少钱？” “它的价值，你自然非常清楚。”阿拉丁没有直接回答犹太人。 这样的回答，似乎是行家的口吻，犹太人便不敢贸然行动。他本来打算只花几个小钱将盘子买下，但怕阿拉丁真懂盘子的价值，而使生意不能成交。最终他抱着侥幸心理暗想： “这孩子有可能是假充内行，不一定知道盘子的价值。” 他思索着从衣袋中掏出一枚金币。 阿拉丁看到他手中的金币，感到满意，立即把金币拿到手，然后转身匆匆走了。犹太人一眼看穿阿拉丁的无知和幼稚，相信实际上用不了一枚金币便可买到盘子。 阿拉丁靠卖盘子过活，当把十二个金盘卖完后，就只得打那个摆在家中的银托盘的主意了。由于那个银托盘又大又沉，不便带往集市，所以他干脆带犹太商人到家中来看货，最后以十二枚金币的价钱把它卖给了犹太人。 就这样，阿拉丁母子过着丰衣足食的生活，需要什么就买什么，根本不用为钱发愁。眼看手中的钱又要花光了，阿拉丁这才趁母亲外出时，抓紧时间把神灯拿出来，擦了一下，灯神便像先前那样迅速出现在他面前。 我的孩子，你要知道，那个犹太人可不是什么好人，而是一个奸诈的小人，一贯玩弄伎俩，贱买贵卖，牟取暴利，已经有很多善良之人在他那里吃亏了。见你和他打交道，我真怕你不明不白就上他的当了。我的孩子，如果你真有什么东西要出售，不妨先拿给我看看。你别害怕，我主要是怕你不懂市场行情，因此，打算替你估一下你的东西值多少钱。若你愿意，我会按公道价格购买，决不会叫你吃亏。 "
