Chapter 10 jungle war

The tribe's wandering life often brought them to that little harbor closed off by the reef.Near the harbour, there was a closed, silent cottage. For Tarzan, the cabin was an inexhaustible source of mystery and delight. He often looked in through the curtained windows, or climbed on the roof, and looked down the dark chimney, trying to see what strange things were inside the solid walls. A child's imagination paints wonderful pictures for him. He believed that there must be some magical animals in there. Not being able to break through the door made him want to go in a thousand times to see what happened.

Hours and hours he spent wandering around roofs and windows, hoping to find a way to get in.No attention had been paid to the door, however, for it was evidently as strong as the four walls. After encountering Lao Shanbao, they came to the hut again.Walking towards the hut, Tarzan noticed that from a distance, the door seemed to be attached to the wall as a separate part. Then, for the first time, it occurred to him that this must be the entrance to the hut, which had eluded him for so long. As usual on visits to the hut, he was alone there, for none of the apes showed much interest in it.For the past ten years, the story of the thundering stick has survived intact, and an atmosphere of ape terror and mystery has hung over the White Man's hut.

No one has ever been able to tell him the relationship between Tarzan and this hut.The ape language vocabulary is extremely poor, they can only say a little about what they saw in the hut, and there is no vocabulary that can accurately describe what the two strange people or their belongings looked like. What's more, this topic has long been forgotten by everyone before Taishan is old enough to understand the truth. Kara also only vaguely told him that his father was a white ape. But he didn't know that Kara was not his biological mother. One day he went straight to the door, and after hours of scrutiny, fussing over the hinges, the handle, and the latch, he finally found the secret to opening it.Under his surprised gaze, the door creaked open.

He didn't dare to venture in for a long time, until his eyes got used to the dim light in the cabin, and then he walked in slowly and cautiously. There was a skeleton lying in the middle of the floor. There was not even a trace of flesh and flesh on the bone, only moldy and rotting clothes fragments were attached to it. On the bed lay a similarly terrifying skeleton, but smaller, and in the cradle beside it was a third, a tiny one. Little Tarzan was indifferent to the pile of bones left by the terrible tragedy that happened many years ago, that day full of death. The savage life in the dense forest made him familiar with dead and dying animals; even if he knew that he was facing the remains of his own biological parents, he could only do nothing.

It was the furnishings and other things in the room that attracted his attention. He examines what remains of time from the dampness of the coast and the jungle: strange tools, weapons, books, paper, clothes. He opened chests, chests—it was easy enough for him. Some relatively well-preserved items were found there. Among these things, he found a sharp pig's knife, and cut his finger with the sharp blade. He continued to experiment boldly, and found that with this newly acquired gadget, he could chip wood chips from tables and chairs. This discovery made him happy for a while, but then he got tired of playing, so he continued to "explore" this hut.In a cabinet full of books, he turned out a brightly colored picture book - a picture book for children.

"Archer" starts with an A, An arrow shot over. "Boy" starts with a B, He is a little baby named Joe. The picture on it aroused his great interest. There are many "apes" with the same face as him.Turning back, he also found that under the letter "M" were a few little monkeys (Monkeys) running around in the virgin forest that he would see every day.But there is no companion here, and there is not a picture in the whole book that resembles Kochak, Tabrante, or Carla. At first, he wanted to take those little things from the book, but soon saw that they were not real things that could be taken off.Although he didn't know what they were, let alone how to describe them.

As for ships, trains, cows, horses, they mean nothing to him.But the quirky little letters printed in the middle and below the colorful pictures were mystifying. He thought it must be some obscure little beetles. For many of these "beetles" had legs, though he could not find any with eyes and mouths. This was his first exposure to the alphabet, and he was over ten years old at this time. Naturally, he had never seen printed matter before, nor had he spoken to any living creature who knew even an iota of written language.I have never seen anyone read any books. So it is not surprising that little boys do not know how to guess the meaning of those strange "beetles".

When he was almost in the middle of the book, he found his old opponent-the lioness Shan Bao, and further on he saw Hesta, the snake, who was coiled into a ball. Oh, this is so much fun!He was ten years older and had never seen anything he liked so much.He was so engrossed that he didn't notice that it was dusk. It was not until the twilight covered his little figure, and until the handwriting on the book became blurred, that he reluctantly put down this lovely book. He put the book back in the cabinet and closed the door.Because he doesn't want anyone to discover and destroy his treasure. He walked out of the hut, melted into the thick night, and closed the heavy door just as he did before he discovered the secret of the lock. But before leaving the hut, he saw the hunting knife lying on the floor again, picked it up, and prepared to show it to his friends.

He had just walked a dozen steps into the depths of the dense forest when a tall figure stood up from the dark bushes. At first he thought it was his brother, but soon realized it was Borgani the gorilla. Being so close, there was no chance of escape.Little Tarzan knew he had to stand up and fight to survive.Because these giant beasts were the sworn enemies of his tribe, they would neither forgive nor beg for mercy when they met. If Tarzan had been a full-grown great ape of his tribe, he would have been a formidable opponent for the gorilla. But he was just a little English boy.In spite of the blood of a valiant warrior and the finest race in his veins, in spite of the rigors of training and the muscular development of ten years of living with the ferocious beasts of the jungle, there was no hope of defeating this brutal opponent.

He doesn't know how to be afraid like we do.His little heart beat faster because of the joy and excitement of a dangerous experience.Given the chance, he'd run away. That was only because the result of the judgment made him understand that he was no match for the behemoth in front of him.But now, reason showed him that it was difficult to escape. He bravely greeted the gorilla without any lie or trembling. In fact, he went up to meet the beast before it even pounced. He clenched his fists and slammed at the huge body, and then attacked the elephant at the flies, all in vain. But in one hand he still held the hunting knife he had found in his father's cabin. The little boy, quite by accident, stabbed the point of the knife into the hairy chest as the giant beast bit and slapped him.The hunting knife stabbed deeply, and the gorilla screamed in pain and anger.

But the little boy learned to use this sharp and shiny "toy" in an instant. Therefore, when the clawing beast pinned him to the ground, he kept stabbing the knife into the gorilla's chest, and kept Deep to the handle. Gorillas fight according to the methods they learned from their ancestors. It opened its great hand, struck terribly, and bit the boy's neck and chest with its mighty fangs. They rolled on the ground and started a vicious fight. But the arm that was holding the sharp blade tightly, scarred and bloodstained, became weaker and weaker. Then, the little body twitched and remained motionless. And so Tarzan, the young Lord Greystoke, lay unconscious on the ground of his native jungle, covered with dead branches and leaves. In the jungle a mile from shore, members of the tribe heard the blood-curdling roar of the gorilla's challenge.According to the usual practice when danger comes, Kochak gathers his "subjects" together, on the one hand, to take care of each other and fight against the common enemy, because this gorilla may be one of the group. On the other hand, to do an inventory, to see if the tribe members are all at home. It was soon found out that Mount Tai was lost.Tabrant firmly opposed sending "reinforcements". Kochak himself did not like this strange little thing at all, so he listened to Tabrant's slander, shrugged his shoulders, and turned back to the pile of leaves used as a bed. Kara was in a completely different mood.In fact, before she knew whether Taishan was at home or not, she flew towards the accident site through the tangled branches and vines. The cries of the gorillas came from there, clearly audible. Night had fallen, and the moon had just risen, casting its dim light among the dense leaves of the forest, casting strange and strange shadows. The dots of moonlight falling on the ground can only make the deep and unpredictable forest more gloomy and gloomy. Like a gigantic ghost, Kara swings noiselessly from tree to tree. For a while she ran nimbly along a thick branch, and for a while she jumped into the air by stepping on another branch. She just clung to the tree in front of her tightly and rushed towards the place where the tragedy happened.Life experience in the dense forest told her that this fierce battle took place not far in front of her. The roar of the gorilla indicated that it was fighting to the death with another resident of the primeval forest.Suddenly, the roar disappeared, and a deathly silence enveloped the entire dense forest. Carla was a little puzzled, because the last few roars of the gorilla Borgani were a painful struggle before death. But after the roar fell silent, there was no other cry.If it had sound, she might have been able to tell what kind of animal the gorilla's opponent was. She knew that it was impossible for her little Tarzan to kill a gorilla as strong as a bull.As she approached the sound of fighting, she became more cautious. At last, slowly and very cautiously, she climbed to the branch nearest to the ground, and looked anxiously across the moonlit woodland, hoping to see the figures of the two "fighters." After a while, she walked up to them.Under the moonlight, on a small open space, lay the bloody little Mount Tai.Beside him is a majestic, motionless gorilla, dead. With a cry of surprise, Carla threw herself on Tarzan, holding the poor, blood-stained child to her chest, to hear if he was still alive.Gradually, she heard the faint beating of the little heart. With infinite tenderness, she brought him back to the tribe through the dark forest. For many days and many nights, she has been guarding his side, feeding water, feeding, and driving away flies and insects crawling on his horrible wounds. Of course the poor mother ape knew nothing about medicine or surgery. She can only lick his wounds and keep them clean so that he can heal naturally and quickly. At first, Taishan didn't want to eat anything, he had a high fever, talked nonsense, turned over, rolled over, and could only drink a little water. And this water was fed to him by Carla using her only water-taking tool-mouth, from the stream one mouthful at a time. Not even a human mother could have displayed a higher spirit of selflessness and self-sacrifice than this poor beast, for the orphan whom fate had thrown into Carla's hands. The fever finally subsided, and the little boy's wounds began to heal.Although the pain on his body was unbearable, he kept his lips tightly shut and remained silent. He had a bruise on his chest, and the ribs were visible, and three of them had been broken by the gorilla. One arm was nearly snapped off by the gorilla's fangs, and a chunk of flesh had been torn off the neck, exposing the jugular vein.It was a miracle that this vein was not torn by the claws! With a kind of indifference and tenacity learned from the beasts that raised him, he silently endured the pain, preferring to leave other apes.A man crawled into the grass and lay alone, unwilling to let them see his pitiful appearance. All he wanted was to be alone with Kara. Now that he's starting to heal, though, she's taking longer to find food each time.Because this dedicated animal hardly ate anything during Taishan's dying days.It turned out to be so skinny.
