Chapter 8 Chapter VII

"I have to say, this is the most interesting restaurant you took me to." Savannah turned to me and said. Not far away on the other side of the dunes, there's a long line of people waiting to buy a burger, destined for "Joe's Burger Stand" in the middle of the gravel parking lot. "This is the best burger in town," I say, taking a bite out of the gigantic burger in my hand. Savannah sat next to me, on the beach facing the ocean. The burgers are great, big and thick, the fries are a bit oily, but just right.Savannah looked at the sea while eating. In the sunset, I even felt that she looked more at ease than me, more like she grew up by the sea.

I thought about the way Savannah talked to Dad, and the way she talked to everyone, including me of course.Savannah has a rare magical ability, no matter who she is with, she can become the person she needs most while being herself at the same time.I can't think of anyone else like her, either in looks or in personality, and wonder again why she likes me.We are almost completely different people: Savannah is the girl who grew up on the side of the mountain, smart and sweet, helpful, with loving parents; Even at home, I feel like an outsider.Thinking of how Savannah got along with her father, she knew how well Savannah's parents taught her.Savannah was sitting next to me, and I wish I could be more like her.

"What are you thinking?" Although Savannah's voice was a little tentative, it was very gentle, pulling me out of my thoughts and back to reality. "Wondering why you're here." I said honestly. "Because I like the beach, I can't come often, and I grew up where there are no shrimp boats, waves or anything." Savannah must have seen the expression on my face and patted my hand. "I'm rambling, sorry. I'm here because I want to be." I put the leftover burger aside, wondering why I cared so much about Savannah's answer. It's a strange feeling, and I'm not sure I'll get used to it.Savannah patted my arm and turned to continue looking at the sea.

"It's beautiful here. It would be perfect with a sunset over the ocean." "Then we'll get the other side of the United States." "Really? You're going to tell me that the sun goes down from the west, don't you?" I immediately Notice the mischievous smile in Savannah's eyes. "That's what I heard." Savannah was only half-eaten of her cheeseburger, and she put it in the bag, along with my leftovers. She folded the bag so it wouldn't blow away and turned to me with her legs outstretched, looking alluring and innocent. "Want to know what I'm thinking?" I waited for her to continue, staring intoxicated at the beauty in front of me.

"I was thinking, I wish I could have spent the last few days with you. I mean, while it's nice to get to know you all, and it was fun having lunch and dinner yesterday, there's always something wrong, like a little Something happened. I didn't realize it was you that was missing until you walked from the beach." I swallowed. In the past, in another time and space, I would have kissed her.But thinking about it, I still stepped on the brakes and just continued to look at Savannah.Savannah looked back at me, not coy at all. "You ask me why I'm here, and I'm kidding you because I thought the answer was obvious. Being with you just feels...right. It's at ease, like everything is so logical and natural. Just like my parents Same, the two of them are very comfortable together. I remember wishing I could be like that one day when I was a kid." Savannah paused, "I wish you could meet my parents someday." My throat Sudden dryness. "I hope one day too." Savannah slid her hand into mine naturally, interlocking fingers.

We just sat there in silence.Waterside terns pecked up and down the beach for food; another flock of gulls flew up when the waves came up.The sky darkened and the clouds thickened. On the other side of the beach, couples walk in pairs under the indigo night sky. We sat together and the air smelled of breaking waves.I just think everything feels as fresh as the first time. It's new but comfortable, like I've known Savannah my whole life, but we're not even a couple yet.A voice in my head reminded me that it was never likely to be a couple, either. In a little more than a week, I will take my leave and go back to Germany, and all this will come to an end.I have been with my brother for a long time, and I know that just living these special days like this is still unable to maintain the long-distance and trans-oceanic emotions.I keep hearing the brothers on the team clamoring that they are in love after their vacations - although it is really possible, it never comes to fruition.

Being with Savannah made me wonder if I could really challenge that tradition. No matter what happens between us, I just want to spend more time with her.I knew very well that it was impossible for me to forget everything about Savannah. It sounds crazy, but I just feel like Savannah has become a part of me, and I'm already starting to fear that we'll be together tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow.I told myself that if this is the case, perhaps, we can overcome the distance. "Look over there!" Savannah yelled, pointing to the sea: "Inside the waves!" I looked at the iron-gray ocean, and there was nothing.

Savannah beside her suddenly stood up and ran to the water's edge. "Come on!" Savannah yelled, turning her head, "Come on!" I stood up and followed, confused.I run and close the distance between us.Savannah was standing by the water, breathing rapidly. "What's the matter?" "It's over there!" I? #91; squinted my eyes and saw why Savannah was so excited.Three chased the waves, one after the other, before disappearing in the shallow water and reappearing farther down the beach. "Little dolphins," I said, "pass by here almost every night." "I know, they look like they're surfing." "Yeah, I know it's like that. Dolphins just love to play. Now the humans are back on shore , the dolphins feel safe and can start playing." "I want to surf with dolphins. I've always wanted to swim with dolphins." "Then they don't play, or they swim out of reach. Dolphins are like this. You see them when you surf. If you are curious about people, you will swim up to a few feet away and take a quick look. If you want to chase them, they will disappear in a blink of an eye." The two of us continued to watch the dolphins, until they swim away. Finally disappeared under the dark night sky.

"We should go." We headed for the car, stopping to take the burgers away. "I'm not sure if the live music is on, but it should be soon." "That's ok, I'm pretty sure I can find something else to do. And I warn you, I'm not very good at dancing." "If you don't want to go, forget it. We can go somewhere else." "Like?" "Do you like boats?" "What kind of boats?" "Big boats, I know of a place where you can see the USS North Carolina." Savannah Na grimaced, and I knew the answer was no.This isn't the first time I've wished I had lived alone. If it is, I'm pretty sure Savannah will come home with me.But if I were her, I wouldn't follow.I am not a saint after all.

"Wait a minute, I know where to go. I want to show you something." My curiosity was piqued. "Where?" They only started work yesterday, and the prototype of the house has already come out.The skeleton of the house has been completed and the roof has been built.Savannah looked out the car window before turning to me. "Would you like to walk around the house and see the results of our work?" "Of course." I followed Savannah out of the car and noticed the moonlight shining on her features.Walking into the dust of the construction site, I heard singing from the kitchen window of my next-door neighbor, music on the radio.Standing a few steps from the door, Savannah walked around the house with a proud face.I leaned in and put my arms around her and she relaxed, her head resting on my shoulder.

"This is what I've been up to for the past few days. What do you think?" Savannah's voice was a whisper in the silence of the night. "Wonderful, I think that family must be very happy." "Yes, they are a very good family. It's really hard to lose the house. They deserve it. Single mother with three young children, Dad ran away a long time ago. Hurricane Forlan destroyed their home. Unfortunately, like many people, they have no home accident insurance. If you meet them, you will like this family. The children are doing well in school , and attends the church choir. This family is very polite and kind... You can tell their moms work hard and make good kids, you know?" "I guess you've seen this family Dead?" Savannah nodded toward the house. "They've been at the site for the past few days." Savannah stood up straight. "Would you like to look inside the house?" I reluctantly let her go. "Let's lead the way!" The house is not big, probably similar to Dad's house, but the floor plan is open, so it feels bigger.Savannah took me by the hand and walked into each room, carefully pointing out the features. She has a rich imagination and has thought out all the details.Savannah wondered what kind of wallpaper to use in the kitchen, what color tiles to put on the entrance door, and how to decorate the mantelpiece. The wonder and joy in the voice is like seeing a dolphin. At that moment, I could clearly picture Savannah as a child. Savannah led me back to the front door when there was a thunderclap.Standing on the porch, I pulled her closer to me. "We'll build a front porch with enough space for a few rocking chairs, or a swing, so you can sit outside on summer evenings, and you can hang out with church members in the courtyard after church," Savannah said. Pointing out the window, "their church is over there, so it's a great location." "It sounds like you know the family well." "It's actually okay, talked a few times, but it's all my own guessing I do this whenever I help build a house — go to each room and imagine how the family will live. It's more fun to build the house that way." Outside, clouds had covered the moon and it was getting darker. There was lightning on the horizon, and soon it began to rain, raindrops hitting the roof, and thunder echoing through the house. The leafy oak trees in the street rustled in the breeze. "If you want to go, we'd better get out before the storm starts." "We have nowhere to go, remember? And I like thunderstorms." I pull Savannah closer, breathing in her scent.Savannah's hair smelled sweet, like ripe strawberries. We watched as the rain intensified, falling obliquely from the clouds. The only light came from the street lights outside, and Savannah's face was half hidden in shadow. Thunder exploded overhead, and the rain intensified, hitting the sawdust-covered ground in puddles here and there.Although it was raining, the weather was still warm. There were a few crates nearby, and I went over and brought them over to make a makeshift chair.Although sitting is not very comfortable, it is better than standing. Savannah sat down next to me, and it dawned on me that coming here was the right decision. It was the first time the two of us were truly alone.Sitting together, I just feel that we have been together like this a long time ago.
