Chapter 16 Eighth Story Hachijo Prince-2

The prince became Hideyoshi's son. The name Juzi comes from the word "like a son".There is almost no difference between Yuzi and adopted son, and they are used with the same meaning in most occasions. But sometimes a distinction is made.If you adopt a son, you have to live in the foster family and use the foster family's last name. This seems to be a principle. But Juzi is not necessarily like this. The prince is a son of the Toyotomi family, but he still lives in the Kanshuji family and lives as a member of the emperor's clan.On the one hand, this is probably because he is too young to leave this environment.

The first month has passed. After entering February, the weather quickly warmed up, and in mid-February, the cherry blossoms in the Imperial Palace began to bud. Some people in the palace commented: "This year's royal banquet for viewing flowers seems to be earlier than in previous years." Twenty-five days later, there was a warm rain, and the next day, 60% of the cherry blossoms at the Ganmen Gate of the Imperial Palace were in full bloom. The emperor was very pleasantly surprised and decided to bring forward the originally scheduled imperial banquet and reschedule it to the 28th.

On the twenty-eighth day, the prince also attended the feast of viewing flowers.Although it is an imperial banquet, it is the emperor's so-called private tour, and the participants are limited to the prince and his family, as well as the hosts of temples and shrines directly under the imperial family, as well as ministers and others who are closely related to the emperor. , are the royal family. Naturally, Hideyoshi was not invited. However, even if he is invited, he may not be able to come to the banquet. He is busy with various diplomatic activities in order to include Tokugawa Ieyasu in the Tokai region as his subordinate. However, unexpectedly, on this day, Hideyoshi, who was supposed to be in Osaka, suddenly brought a few soldiers to Beijing and entered the imperial palace.Said that there was nothing else, but came to greet the emperor by the way.

It just so happened that a flower viewing party was held in the Imperial Garden on this day. Hideyoshi thought: "Don't hinder the emperor's elegance." So he didn't ask anyone to inform the emperor, but quietly stayed in a corner of the imperial garden, stood admiring the flowers from a distance, and soon withdrew. The emperor was very happy when he found out about it afterwards. What people in the court like most is this kind of affection. "Take this poem to Feng Guanbai." While speaking, the emperor handed over a waka he wrote to the minister in charge of liaison.

The garden is full of cherry blossoms, and the fragrance overflows outside the forest. It's time to enjoy the flowers, why did you leave? Just like the flowers have not yet faded, spring will disappear early. After Hideyoshi read it, he immediately composed a song and dedicated it to the emperor.Poetry goes: The light of the flowers reflects the fresh green, and the clouds are bright in the eyes. Standing under the flower tree for a long time, I can't bear to disturb Yaxing. He left without saying goodbye, but the emperor knew about it. The beautiful and touching chorus of poetry between the emperor and his subjects immediately spread in the court and became a topic that everyone liked to talk about.Needless to say, the prince heard it.Comparing the two poems, although it is frightening, one feels that Hideyoshi's impromptu poem is much better than the emperor's imperial song.

The prince said to Taifu to persuade Qingfeng to repair the temple: "Feng Guanbai is also very talented in poetry." Qingfeng has recently been promoted to Quan Da Nayan, who is in charge of the emperor's transmission and liaison work.It was he who gave Hideyoshi the emperor's royal song, and he was the one who brought back Hideyoshi's poems. Qingfeng replied calmly and ambiguously, "Good opinion, good opinion!" He also admitted that Hideyoshi seemed to have a bit of poetic talent, but he found that this excellent harmony poem did not seem to be written by Hideyoshi, but seemed to have been revised and polished by Hosokawa Yusai.

However, Qingfeng did not explain this to the prince, and for this reason, the prince always believed that Hideyoshi wrote the poem himself. What he later saw and heard provided sufficient grounds for this belief. In the year of Hideyoshi's death, that is, on March 15th in the third year of Qingcho (1598), when the flower viewing party was held in Daigo, Hideyoshi made some impromptu poems in front of the prince, and sang the song of visiting the garden with the prince. happy mood. The rhythm of these poems is very natural, and it does not seem to have been prepared in advance. The prince had read many poems written by Hideyoshi in his life, and several of them could be regarded as the best poems, and he could recite them by heart.Everything about Hideyoshi was extremely attractive to the prince, even poetry, which was supposed to be Hideyoshi's worst skill.

In the fourteenth year of Tensho (1586), when he became Hideyoshi's son, an unfortunate incident happened to the prince. On July 24 of this year, his biological father, Prince Chengren, fell ill and died that day.Prince Chengren is the adopted son and heir of the current emperor Zhengqindingdi. His sudden death was a momentous event for the court. At that time, Hideyoshi was in Osaka. When he heard the news that Prince Chengren was suffering from a sudden illness, he rushed to Kyoto immediately, but he failed to catch up with his deathbed. After the death of Prince Chengren, there was a question of succession to the throne.Of course, the prince's older brother, Prince Zhou Ren, should be the heir. That's how things were arranged.

In September of this year, the new crown prince, Prince Zhou Ren, held a crown ceremony. It is Hideyoshi, the chief minister of the court, who plays the role of Dai Guan's adoptive father.Later, Emperor Masakimachi became the emperor according to the hope he had raised several years ago, and gave up the throne. On November 25th, Prince Zhou Ren ascended the throne in Zichen Hall. The new emperor is Emperor Goyosei. The new emperor is still a sixteen-year-old boy, he is the brother of Prince Liuzhigong.Since there is no prince yet, it is only natural that the Sixth Palace is in the leading position in the royal family. If the current emperor has any good or bad, the Six Palaces will inherit the throne.

But Liu Zhigong is the son of Toyotomi's family. "This way, things are not easy to handle." There is such a feeling among the ministers. They thought it necessary to ask Hideyoshi to remove Rokunomiya's seat in the Toyotomi family.Leaving others alone, Qingfeng Quanxiu had a particularly strong emotion on this matter. He is a relative of Prince Liunomiya, and in his opinion, letting the prince inherit the emperor's throne is far better than being the successor of the Toyotomi family. However, even Qingfeng found it difficult to talk about this matter, and finally did not bring it up.Because saying such words is tantamount to hoping that the new emperor will die early, which is inappropriate.

The parties involved, Liu Zhigong, did not notice these situations. He still lives in the house of Quanxiu Temple, studying and learning diligently.Especially recently, he worshiped Kujo Tsukichido as his teacher and began to listen to the explanation of Yishu. For his adoptive father Hideyoshi, he has always been kind to him.In the spring of the following year, when Hideyoshi set off from Osaka Castle to conquer Kyushu, Liuzhinomiya, many ministers, and hostesses of temples directly under the imperial family went to Osaka to see him off. When Hideyoshi rode out of the city gate, the envoy sent by Emperor Goyosei arrived.I saw the envoy running forward, and while running, he told Hideyoshi who was riding on the horse the emperor's imperial decree. So in the blink of an eye, people saw an extraordinary scene.Hideyoshi suddenly became terrified, and saw him fall from the ground. His dismounting action makes people feel that there is really no other better description than "falling".Then Hideyoshi knelt down, quickly took off his helmet, lay down on the ground and kowtowed. The big and small princes present were all surprised by Hideyoshi's grand etiquette, and they all "falled" off their horses one after another, knelt and kowtowed to the ground. All the people in the city who were watching the excitement around them were all dumbfounded when they saw this unexpected scene, and their souls were knocked out of their bodies in fright. They originally thought that Hideyoshi was the ruler with the greatest power in the world, but how supreme would it be to make this Hideyoshi kneel down in a panic to the emperor on the ground! Prince Rokunomiya witnessed this scene. He also suffered a lot.Since Minamoto Yoritomo opened the shogunate in Kamakura, power has passed to the military. In the past dynasties ruled by military generals, I am afraid that there has never been a person who revered the emperor as much as Hideyoshi. This feeling and this scene, he will never forget it in the Sixth Palace. This year until midsummer, Hideyoshi was on the Kyushu front.During this year, Liuzhigong studied "Xingujinji" with Tongsheng of the middle court.Adoptive father Hideyoshi is busy with work, while Rokunomiya spends his time studying his studies. In the sixteenth year of Tianzheng (1588), Liuzhigong was twelve years old. In the spring of this year, Hideyoshi organized a banquet on a scale never seen before in the history of this country's court. This is what most people call the emperor's lucky gathering.Hideyoshi's purpose was to invite the emperor and court officials to Juledi, his mansion in Kyoto, to have fun with the military officials. Needless to say, Sixth Palace was also invited. He had wanted to see Hideyoshi's Juledi for a long time, so from the day he heard about the plan, he had been counting the days and hoping for that day to come soon.According to Liuzhigong, Juledi is located in the inner field of the capital. It is not only a city wall, but also a palace. The building is very magnificent and was completed last autumn.Hideyoshi, who returned triumphantly after the war against Kyushu, has already lived in Juledi and spent the new year there. The magnificent scene of Juledi is like building another imperial palace in the capital, which cannot be described by any famous painter who is good at painting. May 14th is the day when the banquet tour begins. That morning, Hideyoshi personally went to the palace to pick him up.When the emperor came out of the south hall, Hideyoshi quickly went around behind him, helped him lift the hem of the brocade robe that stretched the floor, followed closely, and walked until the front of the phoenix chariot. It is more than 1,600 meters from the Imperial Palace to Juledi, and there are 6,000 soldiers serving as guards along the road. Both sides of the road are lined with colorful welcomes, which looks like a long tapestry.Liuzhigong also sat in the colored sedan chair, and his colored sedan chair was next to the emperor. When the team of Zizi and his party walked through the Zhu Bridge on the moat and entered the gate of Juledi, Liuzhigong found himself in a whole new world. What a majestic and magnificent beauty caught his eyes!In the grand momentum, but also with brilliance. There is none of the melancholy, gloomy atmosphere of the monastery, which is representative of the big buildings of the past.Everywhere is filled with Hideyoshi's air of wanting to enjoy the prosperity and wealth of the world. This kind of splendid and magnificent architecture can easily be lost in the vanity if you are not careful. Hideyoshi, relying on the aesthetic feeling he acquired from his love for the tea ceremony, controlled every critical point, thus avoiding the vanity. "Only Feng Guanbai can do this!" Until many years later, the Prince of Sixth Palace still did not forget the words of exclamation at that time. The prince thought, just as monks who believe in Zen want to express their mind and charm through calligraphy and painting, it seems that Hideyoshi is trying to do this through architecture. The emperor sat down in the reserved seat.Hideyoshi walked forward on his knees and performed the sitting ceremony. Soon, the banquet began. The west end of the banquet hall is completely open, and outside the hall is a vast garden. The yard is full of fresh green. The late-blooming cherry blossoms, the early-blooming azaleas, and the full-blooming Tangdi and swallow flowers add colorful colors to the garden. In the gusts of fragrant wind blowing from the garden with the fragrance of flowers and plants, the banquet proceeded step by step according to the original procedure. When the banquet was in the middle, Hideyoshi presented a large amount of tribute to the emperor. The evening banquet is dominated by orchestral performances. The emperor probably felt very happy. He personally held a guzheng in front of him and played a piece with superb skills. The banquet tour lasted for three consecutive days.It was scheduled to end on the third day.But the emperor's excursions were not over, and he said: "I want to stay here for another two days." This was something that had never happened before, and all the officials were surprised by it. The prince thought to himself: "It turns out that the emperor also likes Hideyoshi very much!" He was so happy that he wanted to jump up and down because his love was consistent with his elder brother who was the emperor. The prince has always respected the Emperor Houyang Cheng, who is probably the most cultured emperor in history. The Son of Heaven is also the teacher of the Liuzhigong, and it was the Tianzi who made the Liuzhigong understand the interest of Tang poetry, and it was the same who gave him an enlightening explanation when he first read "Baishi Anthology". emperor. The prince worried: "I don't know what Hideyoshi thinks?" However, this worry is unnecessary.Needless to say, it was Hideyoshi himself who was pleased with the Emperor's request for a postponement.Hideyoshi was overjoyed and called all the names of his subordinates to the emperor. This is a program that was not in the original plan. Those who were summoned were all princes with three or more ranks in Toyotomi's family. They are Oda Nobuo, Tokugawa Ieyasu, Toyotomi Hidecho, Toyotomi Hideji, Ukita Hideie, and Maeda Toshiie. Those below them were gathered in another hall. Hideyoshi moved forward a few steps and said to the emperor, "I'm so excited!" Then he gave instructions to his princes. The general idea of this instruction is that thanks to the emperor's perseverance, I am lucky to come here.Today, as it is now, we warriors are honored to be allowed to appear before the emperor, this is an unforgettable honor. This incomparable joy really makes us wonder how to be in ourselves. But what will happen to our children and grandchildren?I am very worried that there will be rebellious ministers and rebellious sons among our descendants. They may forget the mighty grace of the emperor, and even use force to try to do treason against the Holy Majesty. For this reason, let us all write a letter of allegiance to the emperor, swearing to be loyal to the emperor from generation to generation and never go against the will of the emperor. All the princes present submitted letters of loyalty. The Prince witnessed parts of the historic occasion. He watched and couldn't help being so moved by Hideyoshi's move that his body wrapped in brocade robes trembled.Thinking back to the past, when his grandfather, the former Emperor Shochinchidi, was young, the warriors didn't even know the existence of the imperial family, and the people in the palace were very poor, and sometimes they didn't even have enough to eat.But now there are people like Hideyoshi who are considerate of the royal family.Doesn't this seem like a miracle? However, Hideyoshi has Hideyoshi's own plans. Many of the daimyos under Hideyoshi used to be at the same level as him, or had a higher status than him, such as Oda Nobuo and Tokugawa Ieyasu, and the Toyotomi family now has to rule over them, and after Hideyoshi's death, they also have to control them. This situation remains forever. For this reason, Hideyoshi wanted to use the sanctity of the emperor to thoroughly instill this sacred concept into the minds of the daimyos. Through this method, he educated them: How noble is the Guanbai family, who is the head of the ministers!Tell them that they should follow Toyotomi Guanbai's family just like they followed the emperor. However, Prince Rokunomiya is not mature enough to observe this situation with such ill intentions. What's more, more importantly, the prince liked Hideyoshi, and he didn't doubt Hideyoshi's sincerity at all. At this banquet, the prince met the character of Da Nayan Tokugawa Ieyasu.Until not long ago, Ieyasu was the overlord of the Tokai region, which opposed Hideyoshi. The prince had heard about it a long time ago, and even Hideyoshi respected him very much. Although he was a famous name of his subordinates, Hideyoshi treated him like a guest. This is a man with a thick neck. The temple hair is sparse, the cheeks are full, and the body is so fat that it even affects the agility of the movements. This was a general who had even defeated Hideyoshi's army, but he didn't show any arrogance at all. He was polite and humble. His demeanor was like that of an old and retired wealthy businessman.Ieyasu also submitted a letter of allegiance. At the banquet, there was also an activity of impromptu poetry writing. There were twenty-four people from the royal family and four people from the generals, including Hideyoshi, who participated in the poetry writing, a total of 28 people. In terms of seats, Hideyoshi sat at the top seat, followed by Prince Rokunomiya, and Tokugawa Ieyasu was the second-to-last seat from the bottom seat. There are inkstones and manuscript paper for transcribing poems written by everyone on their knees. The necessary candidates for the poetry meeting were also selected to serve as the commander, proposition, selection and recitation of the poetry meeting. The poem written by the Son of Heaven has a very pure style, and the poem is like a man. It just shows the emperor's noble character of a gentleman. I have been looking forward to today's meeting for a long time, and it really lives up to my heart. Since then, a good relationship has been formed, and the love between pines and cypresses has been born from generation to generation. The prince made a song. Then, Hideyoshi also made a song, and Hideyoshi's song was: Long live the lucky place, the officials are happy and harmonious. The vegetation looks down on the earth, holding up the sky and a green pine. The prince thought to himself: "How is Jiakang?" He glanced at Ieyasu who was near the bottom seat.Ever since I heard rumors that this Ieyasu was a hero who could rival Hideyoshi, the prince could not be indifferent to him.According to Taifu's advice to Shuji Harutoyo, this character does not have Hideyoshi's interest in art at all.He neither likes fine and rich clothes nor magnificent buildings.Even Hamamatsu, where he lives, has only a few extremely functional and modest houses. There is not even a tea room in the city.It is also said that Ieyasu did not like the tea ceremony, and that he had never even recited a Waka or Haiku. But it is such a character, but today he is pretending to be a number, and he is listed among the people who recite poems and write lyrics. This makes people want to see how this big fat man writes Japanese songs that he doesn't know anything about. Since the beginning of the poetry meeting, the prince has been very concerned about this matter. After a while, I saw Ieyasu put his hand into his bosom, took out a small piece of paper, and copied it word by word. The prince thought to himself: "I'm copying!" He was surprised. He thought, this was probably written by someone else.It must have been written by Yusai Hosokawa.Because of this Ieyasu, after making peace with Hideyoshi in October of the previous year, he went to Osaka to kowtow to Hideyoshi. That time, it was You Zhai, who was well versed in etiquette, who was in charge of receiving Ieyasu and arranged for the two of them to meet. These circumstances were told by You Zhai to the prince himself.I heard that Youzhai and Ieyasu have had a close relationship since then.If someone was hired to write it, it would probably be You Zhai. However, since it is plagiarism, it is better to avoid other people's eyes to some extent, but Ieyasu spread the paper in front of him dignifiedly, copying without any scruples. This scene gave the prince a strange feeling. This is an unscrupulous and defiant attitude, which is completely different from the polite, humble and respectful attitude just now.To exaggerate it a bit, it makes people feel that even in front of the emperor, this person has no fear at all. After a while, the reader recited the poem copied by Ieyasu: There are countless green pine trees with thousands of branches and thousands of leaves. The emperor's grace has warmed people's hearts for thousands of generations. The meaning of this poem is probably that the pine tree has countless leaves, and each of these pine leaves wishes the emperor eternal prosperity. If the poem is the proof of the poet's heart, then it seems that such a conclusion can be drawn: through this poem, Ieyasu also guaranteed the prosperity of the imperial family. The time has entered the eighteenth year of Tianzheng (1590). The Sixth Palace has held a coming-of-age ceremony and has been renamed Prince Zhiren.I was fourteen years old. A year before this, a son-in-law was born in Toyotomi's family, and he was Hesong.Emperor Houyangcheng sent an imperial envoy to Daban and gave him a precious sword as a congratulatory gift.Since then, people have naturally discussed such a topic, that is: the prince should be liberated from his status as a child of the Toyotomi family. It is said that Hideyoshi already had a son, but Emperor Goyosei did not have a son.We should take this opportunity to restore the prince to his previous status as a purely royal person. In the end, that's exactly what was done. Hideyoshi really wanted to do something for the prince who had been his son, as a reward for him. After thinking hard for a long time, he finally came up with a good idea: let the prince separate from the royal family and become an independent royal family. To form a royal family of their own, one must have a territory, and the other must have a mansion.Hideyoshi decided to first give the prince the territory of Sanqianshi. He called this new royal family the Hachijo Palace, and decided to build a mansion for it on the banks of the Hachijo River. In the first month of this year, Hideyoshi was busy preparing for the battle against Odawara Castle, but he still found time to enter the palace and took the prince out. Hideyoshi said: "The prince's residence, I will delineate the scope and present it to you." He was the same man he had always been, a man who liked to build big things.Hideyoshi took the prince to the place where the mansion was planned to be built, and called the officials and craftsmen in charge of the construction project to study the basic policy of construction with them. Hideyoshi said: "You have to use your brain well!" Because it is the residence of the prince, it should have the style of the imperial palace, that is to say, it must be the structure with the main hall. However, this alone lacks brisk taste and the light is not good. And first of all it is too old-fashioned.Therefore, on the basis of this main hall-like structure, it would be better to add a little fashionable elegance (such as a teahouse building). These are Hideyoshi's requirements. Hideyoshi persuaded: "Prince, if you have any comments, please tell me!" However, the prince didn't know much about architecture, so he just said, "I'll leave everything to you." Hideyoshi immediately ordered the craftsman to draw an architectural drawing. After he returned to Osaka, the drawings were delivered. He personally revised it with a Chinese ink pen.And ordered: "Take it and show it to the prince!" The prince looked at this drawing and expressed his opinion as follows: Hideyoshi's design is very interesting for the tea ceremony, and he has no objection to this point. If you want to say hope, I hope that there are some elements of the dynasty style, such as the use of shutters for shelter from wind and rain.Recently, the prince was studying a book enthusiastically with his elder brother who was the emperor, and he wanted a room reminiscent of Genji. This opinion reached Hideyoshi's ears.Hideyoshi thought that "what the prince said is very reasonable", so he made the final revision with a Chinese ink pen, and then set off to conquer Odawara. But even in Odawara's military tent, Hideyoshi was still thinking about the progress of the construction project, and ordered the officials in charge to report to him one by one. The prince often went to the construction site, sandwiched among the craftsmen, and watched them work. The reason why the prince gradually became interested in houses probably has something to do with the construction of Hachijo Palace. At the end of this year, the construction project was basically completed.Hideyoshi was very happy when he heard the news in Odawara. It's just that the paintings on the partition are not yet finished.Hideyoshi urged Kano, the painter who was responsible for the painting, to step up.It was not until before New Year's Eve that the painting was completed and installed in the mansion. The painting is a cypress. I saw a cypress painted with thick brush and ink on the huge picture, and it is also equipped with flowing water, sky and rocks with strong colors. The composition is very majestic and gorgeous, and it is completely in the so-called Juraku style that Hideyoshi likes. One feels that this painting vividly embodies the spirit of the era created by Hideyoshi. After entering the new year, the prince moved into this new residence.Soon, in September of the same year, when Hideyoshi returned triumphantly from the East, he stopped by the Prince's residence. When he carefully inspected the various buildings in the mansion, he said repeatedly: "It's well built!" It's just that the garden was not very satisfactory, so he directed it himself to have some stones decorated in the garden moved. During the nineteenth year of Tianzheng (1591), several unfortunate incidents occurred in the Toyotomi family. In the first month, Hideyoshi's younger brother Yamato Dainagyan Hidecho passed away; in August, Tsurumong died young. The Toyotomi family has no heirs again.Hideyoshi finally made up his mind, and in November of this year, he recognized his nephew Hideji as his adopted son, and in the second month he gave up Guanbai's position to his adopted son. After that, the war to attack Korea began. However, Hideyoshi suddenly began to age from this moment on, as if a main heart bone in his body was broken. About Hideyoshi, Prince Hachijo Gong Zhiren remembered only this.Even these things are still in the prince's very young memory. When Hideyoshi was heroic and in full bloom, the prince was just a child or a teenager, but when his vision of observing the world and people began to mature, the key figure Hideyoshi was already old and died soon after. However, after Hideyoshi's death, the prince's ideological understanding has grown a lot.At the same time, the image of Hideyoshi in the Prince's mind seemed to become more and more vivid after Hideyoshi's death. When the Sekigahara War broke out, the prince was twenty-four years old. "Ieyasu wants to seize power from the Toyotomi family." This incident was already clear in the eyes of the royal family long before the Battle of Sekigahara. After Hideyoshi's death, although Ieyasu was a famous name in Toyotomi's family, he approached the court alone and paid a lot of gold and silver treasures to the court. Its intentions can be said to be obvious, it must be to win the favor of the court in advance and prepare for future uprisings.During this period, Ieyasu violated the laws and regulations of the Toyotomi family, and often did things to irritate the governing organs in Osaka. Ishida Mitsunari, one of the five orders, was very disgusted and attacked on behalf of the Osaka authorities. Raise troops to crusade. For Ieyasu, this may be exactly what he wanted. As a result, the famous names in the world are divided into two. They either join the Eastern Army or the Western Army, and they must be one of them. Hosokawa Yusai, the teacher who taught the prince poetry, joined Ieyasu side by side in Tango's Tanabe (Maizuru) area. You Zhai bets the survival of his family on Ieyasu. The gamble paid off in the end.But in the middle, that is, in the course of the battle, they got into trouble.Because the large corps of the Western Army surrounded Tanabe Castle in Tango. The Western Army besieging the city amounted to 15,000 men, while the You Zhai defending the city had only 500 men.Because Youzhai's son, Zhongxing, led the main force of the Hosokawa family to the Kanto, this is the only army left around Youzhai. He must fight with only five hundred men. However, You Zhai played very well. Everyone in the world thought: "You Zhai may have a hard time winning, he may not survive." However, Yusai's high martial arts skills and bravery in battle were praised by even Oda Nobunaga. Moreover, this person's resourcefulness greatly exceeds his martial bravery. At this moment, this old man has his own knack of surviving a desperate situation without being laughed at by the world. This is the use of eight princes. Since the year before last, Yusai has lectured on the annotations of the entire volume of "Gujinji" for Emperor Goyosei and Prince Hachijo, and he did not finish his lecture until last year. The first time I taught for more than 70 days, and the second time I taught for more than 40 days. Through these two lectures, he finished the annotations of the whole volume of "Gujin Ji".But there is still a tail, that is, what is passed down in the world and can be called a secret. This kind of knowledge that people in the society call is the secret of explaining "Ancient and Modern Collections", and in terms of the art world, it is the secret. This thing is not passed on to outsiders, if Youzhai dies in battle, then this secret will disappear from the human world forever. You Zhai is relying on this one to display his scheme. You Zhai proposed to Prince Batiao who was in the capital: "My death is light, but the secrets of "Gujin Ji" are important. I hope to pass this set of secrets to Prince Batiao before I die." You Zhai sent one of his subordinates as a secret envoy, rushed through the enemy's blockade and arrived at Prince Batiao's mansion. The prince was taken aback. He immediately went to the imperial palace, paid homage to the emperor's elder brother, and after talking about Tango's battle situation, he talked about the secret of "Gu Jin Ji". Prince Zhiren said: "You Zhai said that he wanted to explain the secret of this book to the emperor." These words are somewhat different from the facts. The prince thought to himself, even if he wanted to learn from You Zhai, it would not be a great event in the world. If the emperor wants to learn it himself, he can order him to cease fighting. With the emperor's order, then You Zhai's life can be saved with dignity. You Zhai knew the prince's character, he probably expected that the prince would report to the emperor in this way. The emperor said: "This must be saved." He took immediate action and sent an emissary to Hideyori in Osaka, asking him to issue a truce order to Tango's Western Army. There are three imperial envoys sent from Kyoto to Osaka this time: Dainagon Sanjo Nishimi, Chunogen Nakain Tokatsu, and Lieutenant General Karasuma Mitsuhiro. All three are people who are proficient in poetry rhyme.Xiu Lai agreed. It is the family law of the Toyotomi family to accept the imperial order. In addition to Lieutenant General Mitsuhiro Karasuma as the emperor's envoy to the Tango battlefield, Hideyori also sent an envoy—Maeda Yoshikatsu (son of Maeda Genyoshi), the official resident and chief chef. One step earlier than this, the prince himself sent his retainer Oishi Jinsuke to rush to Tango Tanabe Castle, and told the fighting enemy and us: "The emperor is about to send someone." However, the prince's envoy met You Zhai and told him something that changed the original meaning of his letter. You Zhai made a complex performance. When the envoys sent by the emperor entered the city, You Zhai at first refused to accept the emperor's order to persuade the truce, saying many times that it seemed that they were greedy for life and afraid of death, which is a shame for warriors. At the same time, someone was sent to report to Ieyasu in Kanto. If Ieyasu is not informed of this situation at the same time, it will be detrimental in the future. After arguing with the envoys sent by the emperor in the city, You Zhai finally opened the city gate and left the city in the name of handing over the city to Maeda Yoshikatsu, the chief chef.At the same time, the besieging army also pulled out and left. After that, Youzhai lived in Kameyama Castle in Tanba until the war subsided and peace came again. Not long after, after the war ended with the victory of the Eastern Army, he first went to Osaka to pay homage to Ieyasu. Then he went to Beijing again, and lived in Hachijo Palace's house in order to teach the prince the secret of "Ancient and Modern Collection".For the opening ceremony of this day, the prince specially built a house in the mansion as a lecture hall. What You Zhai taught was nothing extraordinary. It's just that while inserting pieces of paper into the book, he dictated a few difficult places and certain sentences in "Ancient and Modern Collection". This is not so much important content as it is to make the poem A religious ceremony performed to mystify the authority of the secrets of learning.According to the traditional etiquette, the prince handed over an oath to You Zhai. The oath reads: Swear to the gods of heaven and earth, and never say anything to others. If you violate the oath, you are willing to accept any offer from the gods and Buddhas. punish. Ieyasu won the world. Emperor Houyangcheng, who was partial to Hideyoshi, was very disappointed that Hideyoshi died only three years later, and he didn't want to be the emperor anymore. He himself wanted to abdicate and give up the throne to Prince Hajo. However, Ieyasu and his bureaucrats would not allow him to do so.They began to treat the court with a completely different attitude from the Hideyoshi and Toyotomi family of the previous generation. The emperor's abdication could easily be seen as a mockery of the Tokugawas, they said.Such willful behavior is not allowed. It is even more inappropriate to transfer the throne to Prince Bajo. The reason is that the prince was Hideyoshi's son in the past, not only now, but also in the future, it is not appropriate to let him sit on the throne, because it will damage the stability of the Tokugawa family. Everything is not what it was when Hideyoshi was in power. The Kyoto government established by Hideyoshi at the beginning was an institution that took the imperial court as the main body and actively worked for the imperial court. After Ieyasu took power, the Kyoto Soshidai established after he came to power was an institution to monitor the court.Sometimes even act condescendingly as a judge. In this way, from the emperor to the court ladies, the days of people in the court became eclipsed. The prince comforted the emperor's elder brother and said, "Because the sun has gone down." By the sun he was referring to Hideyoshi. For the court of this country, the appearance of Hideyoshi is like the rising sun. When Hideyoshi was alive, the palace was always sunny. After Hideyoshi died, the sky suddenly became cloudy. The prince also said something like this: "Ieyasu is not like the Feng family!" Although he had only met Ieyasu a few times, the Ieyasu he saw was by no means a poet. And Hideyoshi is a poet.If you are not a poet, you probably cannot understand the elegance, beauty and artistry of the court. If you can't understand, then naturally you won't have any feelings for the court. For the next ten years, Emperor Goyosei continued to reign, and he later abdicated the throne to his heir, Prince Masahinto, Emperor Gomizuo. In the sixth year of Genwa (1620), Ieyasu launched what is known as the Summer Campaign against Osaka Castle, besieged Hideyori, and burned them all. Then, Ieyasu sent a group of people to Kyoto, smashed the Hideyoshi Temple on the top of Amitabha, and asked them to throw the ancestor god of the Toyotomi family, Toyoko Daimyojin, into the sea. The prince may have thought to himself: "Is it necessary to do such an extreme thing?" Furthermore, Ieyasu formulated a law in order to restrain the hands and feet of the court and limit their activities within the imperial palace. This is the "Court Regulations". The Prince was disappointed by all this.He finally wanted to escape from the capital. In midsummer, the prince went to the Guichuan River to appreciate melons. It occurred to him to build a house on this spot.He wants to build a villa here, live here, and immerse himself in the wonderful realm of Hexue. The prince built what later generations called Guili Palace. However, not all of the Guili Palace was built by him; during his lifetime, the Li Palace only took shape, and the rest was completed by his son, Prince Zhizhong, who was born in a late marriage. In his words, the villa built by the prince is "a small tea room in the melon field." Although it is small, it is famous in the court for its exquisiteness. When designing this villa, the Prince was inspired by works such as "Anthology", "Ancient and Modern Waka Collection" and his favorite "Bai Shi Anthology". He tried to vividly reflect the poetic sentiment in these works in the villa's architecture. .On summer nights, when the moon is shining brightly and the emerald green melon fields are shrouded in milky white moonlight, the prince may have had this idea many times in his mind: If Hideyoshi can be brought back to life, he should be invited to the residence. How nice it would be to stay for a few days!
