当克乃西特再一次穿越整个小小的玻璃球游戏王国,细细审视着每一件琐事,尤其倾注全力悄悄透选自己的“影子”,以便离开后有人代表自己处理一切大大小小公务时,心里却十分清楚,他内心深处早已与这里的一切脱钩,早已远走高飞。 这个秩序井然的珍贵小世界已不再能令他狂喜,不再能约束他了。他几乎已经把华尔采尔和自己的大师职位看成是身后之事,一个已穿越过的地域,它曾给予他许多东西,使他获益匪浅,然而如今却不能够赋予他新的力量,诱导他作出新的行动了。 在这段缓缓挣脱和辞别的日子里,克乃西特对自己所以背离和逃避的真正原因也看得越来越清楚了。他知道,根本的原因不在于他发现了卡斯塔里现存的危机,也不是为卡斯塔里的前途担心。真正的原因只有一个简单的事实,他对自己那种不务实事的空虚生活业已疲倦,他的心、他的灵魂如今都在渴求,在争取获得充实的权利。
