Chapter 12 Translator's postscript

1984 乔治·奥威尔 426Words 2018-03-21
It would be superfluous to say anything more about this book of genius and insight.Everyone will find resonance in the book. As a translator, all I can do is keep silent. I would like to pay tribute to the great master Mr. Dong Leshan. In the process of translation, I have always referred to his translation; although Mr.'s translation has to be said to be sloppy, I often pretend to be more than Mr. in translation, but Mr. Dong's understanding of Orville is profound. His humanistic care is unmatched by our generation.Mr. Xian's other translations, such as "Darkness at Noon", will also be published. Mr. Xian's hard-working heart will eventually have successors, which may comfort his spirit.

Mr. Lin Meng from Peking University translated some chapters on my behalf, including the passage in the history textbook in the seventh chapter of the first part, the quotation from the book "Goldstein" in the ninth chapter of the second part, and the appendix "Newspeak" in principle".Of course, this does not mean that his translation pen is only suitable for dealing with those "official documents", but it is entirely because I hope that in such a large paragraph of quotations, there will be a completely different style. In fact, there is no "official document" that can reach his level in writing - if you don't believe it, go around and read it around you.

The publication of this book has been difficult, some even beyond my imagination. Now it has finally seen the light of day; may this not only be my luck, but that of the reader as well. Zhang Xiaohui November 1999
