Puzhao was in Ashoka Temple, from the spring to summer of the tenth year of Tianbao, and devoted himself to writing scriptures every day.In the spring, he had heard the news that Jianzhen had returned to Yangzhou, so he did not go to Yangzhou to visit, because he was afraid that his appearance would disturb Jianzhen's state of mind, and he was also reluctant to travel while writing scriptures.Ever since he started writing the scriptures, he realized how much time and effort it takes.Staying at home, sitting at a desk all day long, the daily progress is still extremely limited. He heard that besides Longxing Temple, Jianzhen also lectured on the precepts in Chongfu Temple, Daming Temple, and Yanguang Temple. On the day when he heard the news, he put down his writing pen again and again, looked out of the bright window from the dark room, and imagined Master's voice and face.He already knew from rumors that Master was blind, but he couldn't imagine what Master would look like after being blind.

While continuing to write scriptures, there is no news of going to Japan for a boat. But Puzhao himself didn't know whether he really wanted to have a boat or not, and he was unknowingly acting like a karma. He wrote the scriptures on behalf of the industry, and has written more than thirty volumes, but according to the number to be written, it is less than half.He found himself conflicted, wishing it would be best if he didn't have a boat before he wrote the rest of the book. This is exactly what Ye Xing once had, and in the eyes of others, it is a complex psychology of indecision. After the new year, Puzhao left for Luoyang, and asked Yexing where to find the part of the scriptures translated by Yijing that could not be found in the Ashoka Temple. He went to Dafuxian Temple to visit Yexing, and Yexing was sick in bed. Every time he visited before, he always saw Yexing writing sutras, only this time, he was not lying on the bed at the desk.

Puzhao asked Yijing about the whereabouts of twelve classic manuscripts in 21 volumes, including the "Sutra of Praising Tathagata's Merit and Virtue" translated by Dajianfu Temple in the second year of Jingyun (711 AD).Ye Xing told him the names of several monasteries that might have these scriptures, and they were all monasteries in Chang'an.In order to save a trip to Chang'an, Puzhao asked him if some monasteries in Luoyang or Yangzhou had these manuscripts.Industry said: "I don't know. It's hard to find classics. I often go back and forth between the eastern and western capitals several times in order to find a classic."

His tone seemed to reproach Puzhao for not being afraid of suffering. When we met before, I already felt that Ye Xing was very awkward, but now it has become even more serious. The kindly expression that had seemed dull before had disappeared from the outside. His face was full of deep wrinkles, showing the stubborn temper of an old man. He felt that this person who lived in a foreign country and wrote classics for most of his life had already reached the place he should reach. Puzhao knew that because he donated the two boxes of scriptures he wrote to Da'an Temple in Zhenzhou, Yexing was still angry about this matter, but now, although Puzhao thinks that Yexing's stubborn anger stems from all self-centered actions. The waywardness of the standard, but it is not incomprehensible anymore. The two boxes of scriptures donated to Da'an Temple were indeed copied by Ye Xing with his painstaking efforts.

Puzhao went from Luoyang to Chang'an.It has been ten years since Tianbao left Chang'an in preparation for his return to the country in the first year.Everywhere and everything aroused his nostalgic mood.He went to visit Chongfu Temple, where he had once lived as a foreign monk.Stepping into the gate of the temple, memories of reading classics such as "Sifenlushu" and "Jiaozongyiji" full of heart and soul flooded at the foot. There were still a few old acquaintances in the temple, and everyone was surprised to see that Puzhao was still in Tang Tu. Puzhao found out that there was a manuscript of the classics he was looking for in this temple, so he asked to borrow it.However, he no longer has the student status of studying abroad as a monk, and he has not obtained the qualifications for foreign naturalized monks that can be obtained after the eighth year of Tang Dynasty, so he did not get permission.

Fuzhao considered that through Abe Nakamaro's relationship, he could get the convenience of borrowing. At that time, Zhongma Lu Guan lived in Weiweiqing, in charge of the three departments of weapons, arsenal, and guarding the palace. He was a senior official in charge of equipment and cultural relics.During the ten years of wandering in Puzhao, Zhong Malu was becoming more and more prominent as a famous court official and scholar.Puzhao once met Zhong Malu at the provincial council at the inner gate of the Luoyang Imperial City, but it was not as easy to meet now as in the past. He had to pass Puzhao's application to Zhong Malu through several officials first, and then through several officials , Transfer Zhongmalu's echo to Puzhao. For this meeting, I had to wait four days.

The meeting place was at the corner of Guanting Street through a flat ramp.Zhong Malu still had the same expressionless and emotionless face more than ten years ago, sitting slightly sideways, as if he was listening to Pu Zhao's statement.Afterwards, he probably understood what Pu Zhao meant, kept his original posture and nodded heavily, then stood up and said that there was something else to do today, and left the room by himself before the visitor got up. Pu Zhao saw that Zhong Ma Lu was a very cold and unreliable old man, but his impression was different from the impression when he met him. The next day, Zhong Ma Lu sent an official under his subordinates to visit Pu Zhao and conveyed his answer: everything It has been done according to Puzhao's request, and it has actually been done.

Afterwards, until the summer of this year, Puzhao spent his time in a room in Chongfu Temple, copying several classics such as the Sutra of Praising Tathagata's Merit and Virtue.During this period, Puzhao really wanted to know Xuanlang's whereabouts, and asked people everywhere to inquire, but finally got no news. In July, Puzhao was at the monk who came to Chang'an from Luoyang. He heard that the Japanese ship sent to Tang Dynasty had drifted to the coast of Yangzhou. The four large ships and all the personnel arrived safely. This was unexpected news.Twenty years later, the tenth mission to Tang was dispatched to Tang again.

At this time, Puzhao devoted himself to writing the scriptures. Now that the envoys sent to the Tang Dynasty have arrived, the time for them to return to the country by boat will not be very far. If it is early this winter, if it is late spring, they will definitely go back. From now on, as if he was being urged, he would spend all day at his desk writing scriptures. The Nara court decided to send the tenth mission to the Tang Dynasty. It was the second year of Tianping Katsubo (the ninth year of Tianbao), 20 years after the previous Tajihiro Cheng sent to the Tang Dynasty. On September 24, Fujiwara Kiyokawa was appointed as the ambassador to the Tang Dynasty, and Otomo Komaro was appointed as the deputy envoy. At the same time, the appointment of the judge and the chief scripture were announced. Then, in mid-November, another Kibi Mabi who returned to the country on the previous Tang ship was added, and Otomo Komaro served as deputy envoys.

However, Fujiwara Qinghe received the festival sword in the inner hall, and it was two years later that Shengbao had a four-year leap on the ninth day of March. On that day, Empress Guangming bestowed an imperial song on Ambassador Qinghe: "The giant ship has many masts, and the gods send their son to Korea." At the same time, Gu Cifei, the chief companion of Wei Mendu, also held a grand farewell banquet for his clan's chief companion, Gu Malu's deputy envoy. "Wan Ye Ji" contains: "Rong Xing went to the land of Tang Dynasty, a bottle of respect for the return of the strong man", which was a work presented to Gu Ma Lu by the real eagle master Duojibi at that banquet.

At the end of spring, four large ships and more than 500 crew members sailed from Nanbajin, and landed safely near Ningbo in July of that year.At the end of autumn, the party entered Chang'an. When Puzhao heard that Tang envoys were sent to Beijing, he immediately went to Honglu Temple to visit compatriots who were full of nostalgia. There, he met Qinghe, Gumaro and Zhenbei. Ambassador Qinghe, with a good appearance and elegant demeanor, obviously came from a famous family. He asked Puzhao about his long-term stay in Tang Dynasty.Puzhao roughly told him how he and Jianzhen shared hardships and were displaced in this land. His words did not move the senior officials of the motherland who were similar in age to him. Kibi Mabi's situation was the same, and he didn't express any emotion about it.Twenty years ago, Puzhao met Zhenbei in a room in the Sifang Pavilion in Luoyang. At that time, he was a student studying in Tang Dynasty and was preparing to return to China. Now, he couldn't remember Pu Zhao anymore. When he was in the Sifang Pavilion, Puzhao once got a kind of majestic impression from Zhenbei, which was similar to that of the Tang people, but now he can't feel it at all. Now he is just a somewhat arrogant, unfriendly old man with strong self-esteem. .After returning to the country, Zhenbei went straight to the sky and became the official and right guard governor. He is now nearly sixty years old.He asked Puzhao a few words about his study and specialization.Puzhao's answer did not satisfy the famous leader of the motherland.Rong Rui passed away while wandering, Jie Rong met him for the last time in Guangzhou, and said he wanted to travel to Tianzhu in the West, but there was no further news from him.The situation of Xuanlang is the same, they are quite different from Zhenbei who is famous as an outstanding foreign student in Tang Dynasty. There was a faint look of contempt in the eyes of Fu Zhaojian Zhenbei.Of course, he also knew Jianzhen's name, but when Puzhao talked about Jianzhen's years of hard work, he didn't even move his eyebrows, but said impatiently: "As long as you prepare well and use all the forces of Xingyue Fengshui to send the ship to Japan, of course you can cross the sea. If you don't do it right, you will never reach Japan!" It seems that they should not be blamed for suffering. It is the people who have studied classics and history in Tang Dynasty and learned the yin and yang calendar, and they will say such words. Only Otomo Gumaro said casually after listening to Puzhao's statement in silence: "Since you want to go to Kouben so much, let's take Jianzhen with you this time." He didn't seem to know what kind of person Jianzhen was, and he didn't know what it meant to preach precepts, but he was the only one who was somewhat moved by Puzhao's words. On this day, Puzhao came out of Honglu Temple and took a rare stroll on the streets of Chang'an.When he heard the news of Prime Minister Li Linfu's death from a businessman, he felt infinite emotion in his heart. The first crossing plan had received Li Linfu's help, but we have not met since then. That meeting seems to have happened a long, long time ago. Afterwards, until the spring of the twelfth year of Tianbao in the following year, Puzhao did not leave the small room of Chongfu Temple, writing scriptures at his desk all day long.During this period, he was visited several times by young monks studying abroad who were sent to the Tang Dynasty by Tang boat.Puzhao recalled the scene when he visited Jing Yun and Ye Xing in the early Tang Dynasty. Now in the eyes of the young monk, he was just like Jing Yun and Ye Xing, a lifeless and humble person. Puzhao heard a lot of news from the young Japanese monk. When the Qinghe court met the emperor, Emperor Xuanzong said with admiration: "You are envoys from a state of ceremonial gentlemen." Zhong Malu was ordered by Xuanzong to accompany the envoys to visit the Three Religions Hall where Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism are enshrined, and the East and West The main temple in the one hundred and ten squares of the two streets.Later, Qinghe, Gumaro, and Zhenbei participated in the New Year's banquet of the Tang court and competed with the envoys of Silla for seats. Gumaro refused to give in, and finally occupied the highest seat among the foreign envoys. What moved Puzhao deeply was not the outstanding activities of the Japanese envoys in Chang'an, but Li Linfu, who died two months ago, and was deprived of his title after his death. It is said that Li Linfu had a heart of disobedience. It was revealed, so such measures were taken. From here, people feel that there is an unhealthy undercurrent in the political circle, and the aftermath has affected people under Li Linfu's family.Puzhao remembered that Rongrui almost had a premonition twenty years ago that there was a sign of something different in the political culture of the Tang Dynasty, and now Puzhao has also noticed it. In March, rumors began to be heard that the envoys to the Tang Dynasty were about to return home.It is said that it will depart from Chang'an in early autumn for the ship. And I heard in particular that this time, Zhong Malu will end his long-term stay in Tang Dynasty and return to China on the same boat as the envoy sent to Tang Dynasty. When he heard the news for the first time, Puzhao felt that he had to make an early plan to leave Chang'an. At the same time, he had to go to Luoyang Dafuxian Temple to see Yexing and ask him to prepare to return to the country.I also have to go back to Ashoka Temple and go through the formalities of leaving Tang Dynasty.Fortunately, most of the scriptures scheduled to be transcribed have already been transcribed. Two days before leaving Chang'an, Puzhao visited Otomo Komaro and explained to him again the significance of hiring Jianzhen to go to Japan.Jianzhen's visit to Japan means that the real precepts have been introduced to Japan; the introduction of precepts means that for the first time after Buddhism came to Japan for 180 years, it has a complete scale for the first time.Gu Malu silently listened to Puzhao's explanation, and asked Puzhao to submit a list of Tang monks hired to Japan at the same time as Jianzhen. Puzhao proposed the names of five Tang monks other than Jianzhen: Si Tuo of Kaiyuan Temple in Taizhou, Fa Jin of Baita Temple in Yangzhou, Tan Jing of Chaogong Temple in Quanzhou, Yi Jing of Xingyun Temple in Yangzhou, and Fa Jin of Lingyao Temple in Quzhou. load. These people are monks with strict precepts respected by Puzhao.Si Tuo, Fa Zai, and Tan Jing have followed Jian Zhen for many years since the first crossing plan.Gu Malu seems to be preparing to ask Xuanzong to invite him, and directly proposes to hire Jianzhen. Puzhao couldn't wait for Gu Malu's request, so he set off from Chang'an.He now believes that the matter of hiring Jianzhen can be handled by sending Tang envoys. If Jianzhen still had the intention to go to Japan, he would definitely accept the invitation of the Japanese envoy; if he had given up his wish, he would of course refuse. Puzhao left Chang'an at the end of April. He went out of the city to the hills in the northern suburbs, looked at the nine streets and twelve avenues that he would never see again for the last time, and overlooked the streets surrounded by fresh greenery. After descending the mountain, he left Chang'an directly. When he arrived in Luoyang, Puzhao went to Dafuxian Temple to visit Yexing. He told Yexing the scriptures he had copied over the past two years.Knowing that the lost scriptures had been compensated, Ye Xing immediately calmed down, as if he was a different person, completely eliminated his dissatisfaction with Pu Zhao, and expressed his willingness to let Pu Zhao dispose of his dying years and a large number of scriptures. Puzhao Yaoyexing managed to gather all the scriptures distributed in various places to Chanzhi Temple in Yangzhou, then bid him farewell, left Luoyang, and immediately returned to Ashoka Temple in Yunshan, where he waited for the boat schedule to return home.Once the time for sending Tang ships to sail was decided, someone would contact him. The life in Ashoka Temple was the happiest time in Puzhao's long-term stay in Tang Dynasty. Especially when he decided to return to China and only waited for the boat schedule, he felt particularly comfortable about life here.He is almost fifty years old, and he prefers this quiet Yunshan without disturbances to Chang'an, Luoyang and Yangzhou. He likes the small monastery that has a long history but is now very clean, and also likes the quiet reflection of the sunshine in the deserted garden and the sound of the wind swaying the bamboo forest. During this period, one day, he met a guest in the courtyard. He didn't immediately recognize who this guest was, and after a while, he asked in a low voice: "Are you Xuan Lang?" Xuan Lang had already changed into a Tang costume, and he looked exactly like a Tang man, with a complicated expression on his face that looked like he was about to cry, which showed that he came to visit him sincerely. After the two sides discussed Qi Kuo, Xuan Lang explained the purpose of coming. "I have one thing to ask you." Xuan Lang's face with delicate features in his youth is gone.He was not wearing a monk's uniform, and had long hair. Although his body was not very ragged, he looked desolate. Puzhao invited Xuanlang to enter the house, and Xuanlang asked, if there are others who came with him, can they come in together.Puzhao nodded, and Xuan Lang returned to the outer courtyard, bringing in an ordinary-looking, very reserved woman and two ten-year-old daughters, who were Xuan Lang's wife and daughter. The woman greeted Puzhao clumsily, but did not enter the house, saying that the children wanted to play in the yard, and went to the outer courtyard. The purpose of Xuan Lang's visit was to bring his wife and daughter back to Japan, and asked if there was such a convenience. "As a monk studying abroad, I stayed in the Tang Dynasty for 20 years. I have learned nothing. In the early years of the Tang Dynasty, although I learned some things, I have completely forgotten them. Now all I have are a wife with a different skin color and face shape than myself and two My daughter, if she has money, can bring some gifts to Japan, but she doesn’t have money, she just wants to go back to her motherland and let her wife and daughter see the land where she was born.” Xuan Lang sadly expressed his feelings, but Pu Zhao was speechless after hearing this.Losing integrity while studying abroad, it is reasonable to go back alone with a naked body, but it is very inconvenient in Xuanlang's situation to bring his wife and daughter with him.Even if it is allowed to return to the country, after returning, the public opinion in the world will inevitably be quite severe. "I don't know if you can be on the same boat or not, but I will try my best for you!" Puzhao answered him in this way.Explain that the application can only be made after the mission arrives at the boarding place. In order to be able to board the ship at any time, he asked Xuan Lang to go to Yangzhou with his wife and daughter to wait, and agreed to use Chanzhi Temple as the contact point. Xuan Lang came all the way to Yunshan just for this matter, and after the conversation, he immediately got up and wanted to leave.Puzhao thought that old friends for many years should sit down and have a meal and have a good talk, but Xuanlang looked very restless and said that he lived in an inn. "Today I won't accompany you any more." Leaving this sentence, he hurriedly bid farewell. After Xuanlang left, Puzhao sat on the porch, dazed for a long time.As a monk studying abroad, Xuan Lang should be blamed for his behavior, but as a person, there seems to be nothing to blame. In order to hire Jianzhen to go to Japan, I and Rongrui devoted all my body and mind, and lived a long-term life in the land of Tang Dynasty. If there is no such career, then I and Rongrui may be the same as Xuan Lang, the difference is only a paper. Moreover, Xuan Lang married a foreign woman, he valued this marriage, he refused to abandon them casually, and fled back to the motherland alone, he still wanted to place his wife and daughter among the villagers in his homeland.Pu Zhao thought that for the sake of Xuanlang, he should leave this place as soon as he heard the notice of the sailing schedule. After deciding on the date of leaving Chang'an, the Japanese Mission to the Tang Dynasty asked Xuanzong to recruit Jianzhen and five other monks.Xuanzong did not object to Jianzhen going to Japan, but proposed to send several Taoist priests to go with Jianzhen.Bringing Taoist priests to Japan is a difficult problem for the mission.Xuanzong respected Laozi and advocated Taoism, while religions other than Buddhism were not popular in Japan. The mission had no idea, so they had to withdraw their request. In order not to disappoint Xuanzong, they chose Chun Taoyuan and other four people from the mission to stay in Tang Dynasty to learn alchemy, and deal with the matter of hiring Jianzheng separately.Qinghe and his party left Chang'an at the end of summer and headed for the boating place. On the way, Qinghe, Gumaro, Mabi, and Abe Nakamaro, who returned home with the mission, visited Jianzhen at Yanguang Temple in Yangzhou, and told him what happened, and then Gumaro said this if: "Everything is at the discretion of the great monk." It means that although no formal permission from the imperial court has been obtained, as long as Jianzhen has the desire to go to Japan, there are four large ships with complete equipment that can be used.Jianzhen nodded slowly and replied, he had crossed the sea five times but all failed, this time since he had a Japanese ship, of course he fulfilled his long-cherished wish. However, the visit of the four Japanese envoys to Jianzhen was a very unsafe move. The news that Jianzhen would cross Japan soon spread in Yangzhou City. Longxing Temple immediately set up a serious alert. Puzhao arrived in Yangzhou from Yunshan on the second day of October. He immediately went to Chanzhi Temple to visit Yehang. Yehang had already packed a large number of scriptures into more than a dozen boxes and was ready to leave at any time. But there is no news from Xuan Lang yet. On the second day after going to Zenzhi Temple, Puzhao went to visit the lodging of the Tang missionary, where he met Otomo Komaro, and made Xuanlang's request. It was not as difficult as originally imagined, and it was easy to do it for Xuanlang. procedures for returning home. Knowing from Gu Malu that Jianzhen still has a desire to go to Japan, he is planning to leave Longxing Temple in the near future and go to Huangsipu, the place where he set sail, to board a Tang Dynasty ship.Puzhao was eager to meet his master, and could do something to help him, but Longxing Temple was heavily guarded, and he was afraid that going by himself would hinder the important event, so he decided not to go. The date of the boat ride is almost one day, there is no sign of Xuanlang in Chanzhi Temple, and the formalities for Xuanlang's family of four to return to the country have been completed, and all they need to do is wait for their arrival, but there is no news of these four guests.Puzhao was very anxious, whether he decided that he would not approve to return to China, or he hesitated when the time came, so he dared not show up.The four Tang Tang ships are scheduled to set sail in Huangsipu in mid-November, and those who take the boats must arrive in Huangsipu by mid-October at the latest. The Tang mission was sent to Huangsipu in three batches. The first batch departed from Yangzhou on October 13, the second batch departed two days later, and the third batch departed two days later.Yexing took a large number of suitcases and boarded the second batch of ships. Puzhao waited anxiously for Xuanlang to leave Yangzhou on the third batch of boats. On the day of sailing, he learned from Gu Malu who was going to be on the same boat that Jianzhen was going to leave Yangzhou on the night of the 19th, so he changed his plan and prepared to go with him. Jianzhen went together, although the difference was only two or three days, but in order to wait for Xuanlang, he had to stay anxiously in Yangzhou. According to Gu Malu, Jianzhen's disciple Renqian in Wuzhou heard that Jianzhen was going to cross the day, and planned to take a boat to wait quietly by the river that night and send Jianzhen and others to Huangsipu. Puzhao stayed in Chanzhi Temple until the evening of the 19th, and finally got no news from Xuanlang, so he had no choice but to cut off his thoughts and walked to the Yangzhou River by himself, and immediately found Zen Master Rengan's boat, but when Puzhao arrived, there was no warning. True traces. He sat on the boat restlessly, waited for about a moment, and there seemed to be a group of people coming from the shadows by the river.Puzhao got out of the boat and stood on the embankment. Those who came were not Jianzhen and others, but twenty-four novice monks. They said one after another that the master would cross the sea and go east. After this farewell, we will never see each other again. Begging for the final bond. Half an hour after the monks came, Jianzhen and his party arrived.Puzhao walked across the embankment, announced his name in the dark, and immediately heard the echo of Master: "Is that Zhao?" Puzhao walked towards the direction of the voice, and held Master's hand, just like when Tianbao said goodbye to a room in Kaiyuan Temple in Shaozhou in the summer and June of the ninth year of Tianbao. , shoulders and chest, I was so moved that I couldn't even say a word. Jianzhen gave full precepts to the twenty-four novice monks who were waiting by the river, and then boarded the boat together, and the boat immediately sailed slowly to the lower reaches of the river. With infinite emotion in his heart, it was the third time that Puzhao went east to Dajiang in order to go to Japan with Jianzhen. The first time I disembarked was in December of the second year of Tianbao, a moonlit night. The second time was in June of the seventh year of Tianbao, and it was a dark night like today.Ten years have passed since the first time, and five years have passed since the second time. After Puzhao boarded the boat, he realized that the five monks he had nominated to Daban Gumalu, Fajin, Tanjing, Yijing, and Fazai, all came with Jianzhen. In addition, there are nine monks including Facheng of Kaiyuan Temple in Douzhou and ten companions. There are also Hu people, Kunlun people, and Zhanbo people in the same industry.Almost everyone has no luggage.Jianzhen had prepared a large quantity of carrying items, which had been divided into several batches and transported to the departure point first. Pu Zhao wanted to see Jian Zhi's face, as well as the faces of Si Tuo, Fa Zai and Tan Jing, but before dawn, he had no choice but to be satisfied with listening to their voices. When dawn broke, Puzhao woke up from his sleep and saw Jianzhen's face. It was impossible to tell whether he was awake or asleep. He leaned against the side of the boat and sat with his head slightly raised. In the past five years, he thought that his master must have aged a lot, but now he looks younger.Although both eyes are blind, there is no gloomy feeling at all.The demeanor of the heroic ancient warriors has become more serene. The sixty-six-year-old Jianzhen's face is quiet and bright. Jianzhen suddenly turned his face towards Puzhao, who was more than ten feet away. Looking from the front, he seemed very calm, but still had Jianzhen's unique expression of determination. "Photo! Did you sleep well at night?" Jianzhen said. "Did you see it just after I woke up?" Pu Zhao said in surprise. "My eyes are failing. Of course I didn't see it. I have called you several times just now." Jianzhen said with a smile. But Puzhao didn't smile. Facing the cold wind on the river in the morning, he let the tears flow down his face, but he didn't let out a choked sound. "Zhao, are you crying?" "No." Puzhao replied. After a while, the other monks woke up.Si Tuo has completely lost the figure of a young monk. He has a strong physique and a serene demeanor, and he already has the demeanor of an eminent monk under Jianzhen's sect.Fa Zai and Tan Jing are also different from when they were wandering, they have become physically strong, and they are no longer recognizable.Facing these Tang monks, Puzhao thought of the voices and faces of Rongrui and Xiangyan who had lived and wandered together for many years, and that they would never see each other here again, and felt extremely desolate in his heart. When they arrived at Huangsipu, they started to load the boxes of their belongings onto the second and third boats respectively. The Buddha statues carried mainly include the statue of Amitabha Tathagata, the statue of carved white sandalwood with thousand hands, the statue of embroidered thousand hands, the statue of Avalokitesvara, the statue of Medicine Master, the statue of Amitabha, the statue of Maitreya Bodhisattva and so on. The number of scriptures is extremely large, including 80 volumes of "Dafang Guangfo Huayan Sutra", 16 volumes of "Great Buddha Name Sutra", one "Dapin Sutra" in gold characters, one "Great Collection Sutra" in gold characters, and "Nanben Sutra". One volume of Nirvana Sutra is forty volumes, one volume of "Four Fen Laws" is sixty volumes, five volumes of "Four Fen Shu" by Fa Lishi are ten volumes each, and Lawyer Guangtong's "Four Fen Shu" is 120 pages, Two volumes of "Story in the Mirror", five volumes of "Bodhisattva Precepts" by Master Zhi Zhou, two volumes of "Bodhisattva Precepts" by Master Lingxi, ten volumes each of Tiantai's "The Method of Meditation and Vipassana", and "Xuanyi Wenju", Twelve volumes of "Four Teachings", eleven volumes of "Sedi Zen Gate", nine volumes of "Zhu Zong Yi Ji" written by Dingbin lawyer, one volume of Supplementary Fang Zong Ji, one volume of each of the two "Jing Shu", Guanyin Lawyer Si Liang's "Yi Ji" has two volumes and ten volumes, lawyer Nanshan Xuan's "He Zhu Jie Ben" and "Shu", five "Ching Shi Chao", two "Kama Shu", lawyer Huai Su's "Jing Benshu has four volumes, Master Xuanzang's "Records of the Western Regions" has twelve volumes, and so on. Puzhao looked at the carry-on catalog that Sito showed him, and knew that most of the classics were familiar to him.In the first half of the 20th year of the Tang Dynasty, he spent all his time studying these classics without sleeping and eating. Only Master Xuanzang's "The Story of the Western Regions" recorded in the catalog was only heard from Jie Rong when he was in Guangzhou. book title. In addition, the catalog of carrying items is full of various treasures, Buddhist utensils, images, etc. headed by 3,000 Tathagata meat relics, especially the words "a gold and copper pagoda like the Pagoda of Ashoka Temple", which has aroused great concern. All-encompassing attention. On the 23rd, Jianzhen and his party of 24 people were placed on four boats respectively. According to the published list, Jianzhen and his entourage of 14 monks took the first boat of Ambassador Qinghe, and ten companions took the third boat of Zhenbei. The boat, Yexing and Puzhao, took Gumalu's second boat. On the day the list was announced, Puzhao unexpectedly received a letter from Xuan Lang. This was brought by a boatman who came to Huangsipu from Yangzhou, entrusted by Xuanlang. The letter briefly stated that I did not contact Chanzhi Temple as scheduled, and expressed my apology. He said that although his heart was like an arrow, it was only a one-sided wish. After final consideration, he felt that he should die in Tang Dynasty.According to the boatman who sent the message, Xuan Lang lived in a store in the Southwest Market of Yangzhou. Puzhao read Xuan Lang's letter several times, and knew that Xuan Lang had no clear reason, but he felt that he had no face to see the elders of his home country, so he cut off the idea of returning to China. After thinking about it, he should be persuaded to go back to Japan. The four ships are scheduled to sail in mid-November. If the sailing schedule remains unchanged, there is still enough time to go to Yangzhou again and bring Xuanlang's family with them. Puzhao immediately told Gu Malu about this.According to Komaro's thinking, it is not a big problem whether a Japanese monk studying abroad has lost his monk registration, and whether he has achieved anything he has learned.Just because you married a woman from the Tang Dynasty, you are more qualified to go back to China than those whose heads are filled with messy things. He didn't seem to understand the reason why Xuan Lang was afraid of returning home. He said: "This silly guy, if he doesn't want to go back, that's all. If you want to go back, go and bring him." Puzhao immediately returned to Yangzhou, thinking that he would not trample on the land of Yangzhou, but now, for the sake of Xuanlang, he went back to Yangzhou where the leaves of elms and locust trees began to wither and turn yellow at the end of October.I found the shop where Xuan Lang lived, but I didn't see Xuan Lang. It turned out that Xuan Lang and his family lived there for a few days and returned to Chang'an two days ago. Disappointed, Puzhao came here from the place where he took the boat in a hurry. All his hard work was in vain. He planned to return to Huangsipu immediately, but due to the exhaustion of the journey, he suddenly developed a high fever and had to fall ill in the Yangzhou inn for five days. He lay on the bed and was very anxious. On the third day, I returned to the place where I took the boat. When he returned to Huangsipu, Jianzhen and his party, who were originally scheduled to take the first and third boats, had gathered on the second boat of Gumalu. It turned out that when Puzhao was away, something happened to Jianzhen and his party. On the day he went to Yangzhou, after they boarded the ship, an order was sent for all the crew to leave the ship.Someone in the mission made a comment, saying that if the Guangling County government knows the news of Jianzhen's going to Japan, they will go on board to search and detain them, which will be very troublesome for the Tang Dynasty envoy; If they drifted to the coast of the Tang Dynasty again, it would also leak Jianzhen's trip to Japan, so it would be better to ask them to leave the ship now.Of course there are many different opinions on such measures, but in the end, the ambassador asked Jianzheng that they left the ship for the sake of prudence. A group of people were hit by an accident and stayed in Huangsipu in a daze. It was Gu Malu who came to rescue them.On his own initiative, Gu Malu took Jianzhen and other twenty-four people into private custody on his own boat. This happened three days before Puzhao returned to the boat, on the tenth night of the first month of November. Puzhao and Yexingyuan took Gumaro's second boat, but because there were too many people on the second boat, they were placed on the third boat of Kibi Zhenbei. Another thing, when Puzhao was not around, there was a problem with karma. He must put the scriptures he brought on the same boat as himself, no matter what he says, it doesn't make sense to him.He changed from the second boat to the third boat, and the large number of scripture boxes also had to be moved from the second boat to the third boat. It was really troublesome for the boatmen when they were in a hurry before sailing.Several people discussed with him, but they couldn't reach an agreement, and finally had to follow his wish. For this matter, many people on the same boat and the boatmen on the boat hated Karma to the core. Puzhao boarded the third boat, and saw that Yexing occupied the cabin near the stern by himself, with dozens of scripture boxes piled up around him.In fact, Yexing placed a small bunk in the gaps filled with wooden boxes. On the evening of the 14th, Puzhao left his own boat and went to the second boat to meet Master and Si Tuo. We are not crossing the sea on the same boat, and we may encounter different fates for each of us. In the middle of the night on the 15th, using the moonlight, the four boats sailed at the same time.On the first boat of Ambassador Qinghe, Abe Nakamaro, who stayed in the Tang Dynasty for thirty-six years, sang the song "Looking at the long sky, faintly seeing the moon at the top of Sankasa Mountain" on this night. The Tang boats bound for the motherland left the bank of Huangsipu River in the order of the first boat, second boat, third boat, and fourth boat. After sailing for about half an hour, they saw a pheasant flying in front of the first boat. It seemed that a black object was suddenly thrown, and it passed in a straight line above the sky as high as the mast. The river was as bright as day, only the small object showed a black spot.Only a few people on the first boat saw the pheasant. The boat boss thought it was a bad omen, and immediately sent a light signal to the three boats behind, and the four boats stopped at the same time, and spent the night on the river. On the morning of the 16th, sailing was resumed. Fortunately, the river was calm and calm. After about a quarter of an hour, the formation of the ships was disordered, and the order of the first ship and the second ship was changed. out. Puzhao and Yexing's deputy envoy Zhenbei's third boat arrived safely at Agunaibo Island (Okinawa). It was the sixth day after leaving Huangsipu, that is, at midnight on the 20th.On the third day, still far to the south, I saw the shadows of the first and second boats, and also saw the fourth boat behind me.But by the morning of the fourth day, the convoys were separated from each other, and the third ship was sailing alone. On the evening of the second day after the third boat arrived at Agunaibo, the first boat of Ambassador Qinghe and the second boat of Deputy Ambassador Komaro entered the harbor on the island successively after about a day's delay. The next day, the passengers on the three ships disembarked and landed on the island, congratulating each other on their safety on the road, while anxiously waiting for news from the fourth ship. Another day later, the wind blew up on the sea, and the big waves splashed on the cliffs by the harbor and turned into white foam. Several times a day, large groups of unknown seabirds flew over the rough sea.The three boats decided to stay on the island and wait for the wind and waves to subside. Passengers go to the island every day. Although there are storms and waves on the sea, the sky is still blue. The sun reflects the white soil and the betel nut forest covering the whole island, unexpectedly showing the rare sunny weather in this season.Puzhao and Sito walked together on the island, until they reached a very far place. As in the past, Sito kept detailed records of the island's scenery at any time. Shortly after entering December, some passengers changed positions.Because Jianzhen's group of people was boarded by Gumaro's boat, which exceeded the quota, in order to avoid danger, some people were assigned to the other two boats.Seven people including Jian Zhen and Si Tuo remained on the second boat, and the others moved to the first and third boats respectively. At the same time, people who knew Tang were assigned to three boats.Karma moves to the second boat, and Puzhao moves to the first boat. But Ye Xing did not obey this allocation, he was only willing to move to the first boat in Qinghe, not the second boat.Puzhao asked him why he did this. He thought that the first boat was the ambassador's boat. It was big and most of the crew had sailing experience. Therefore, if he was asked to move, he had to go to the first boat. Puzhao told Gu Malu about Yexing's request, and was willing to swap with Yexing himself. The reason why he was willing to go on the second ship was because he hoped to stay with Jianzhen during the final voyage back to his motherland, so that he could enjoy the joy of setting foot on Japanese soil with Master. But when changing boats, Yexing got into an awkward situation just like Huang Sipu did. He had to move from the third boat to the first boat along with his scriptures, and Puzhao had to ask Gu Malu to satisfy Yexing.
