张豺杀掉燕王石斌后，又与太尉张举合谋干掉司空李农。张举平日和李农饮酒欢聚，是感情不错的老同事，全然不顾政治斗争中你死我活的原则，把消息透露给李农。李农大惧，当即逃出京城，奔往乞活军的根据地广宗（今河北威县），并率数万兵民在上白坚壁拒守。李农本人就是乞活军首领出身，所以有地方可逃可躲，换上别的京官，官阶再大也只能在家里等死了。 “刘氏使张举统宿卫诸军围之”。李农之所以能逃出生天，本来就是张举泄密，刘氏竟不明就里，仍旧派老同事围攻老同事，结果不判自明。最要命的是，李农又非争皇位的宗室，把京城精锐禁卫军全部抽调去打这么个人，等于把心脏暴露于腹腔之外，邺城首都可一攻即溃。 “邺中群盗大起，迭相劫掠”。老皇帝驾崩，儿皇帝登基，人心思乱，中原又要陷入血雨腥风之中。 彭城王石遵率三万禁军行至河内，闻知父皇石虎的死讯，停军不前。此时，刚刚消灭梁犊，全军大胜而归的姚弋仲、蒲洪以及石闵等人正率大批将士回军，于李城与石遵相遇。 石遵是石虎先前杀掉的太子石邃的同母弟，年长有智，依照继位次序也排于前列。于是，众人齐集石遵大营，进劝说：“殿下长且贤，先帝也有意以殿下为嗣君，但晚年昏惑，为张豺等人所误。今女主临朝，奸臣用事，上白（指攻打李农的军队）相持未下，京师宿卫空虚，殿下如公布张豺罪名，鼓行而讨之，邺城谁不倒戈开门而迎接殿下您呢？” 石遵当然乐意。他在李城公开起兵，拥重兵直趋邺城。半路，留守洛阳的洛州刺史刘国等人也率大军加入，一同开进。 石遵檄文送至邺都，张豺这才慌了心神，忙遣飞骑驰召在上白围攻李农的禁卫军。但路途遥遥，大军一时不能回返。 此时，石遵大军已于荡阴扎营，共集后赵锐军九万多，以平虏将军石闵为先锋。 张豺虽慌惧，也是武将出身，仍旧布置城守防御，准备凭借坚城一战。但邺城内的羯族部帅兵士都纷纷聚言：“天子儿子来奔丧，我们应该出门迎接，不能为张豺做守城兵”。于是，众人乱哄哄地往城外跑，前往石遵处“投诚”。张豺手斩数十人，根本挡不住城中兵士出逃的洪流。怔忡之间，忽然有人报告，他自己的亲信张离也率禁宫中最最精锐的二千龙腾军斩关冲出，迎接石遵。至此，张豺完全心凉，知道自己要玩完了。 宫中，刘皇后刚刚垂帘二十多天，屁股还没坐热，忽然发现天下大乱，母子性命危在旦夕，先前下令诛杀石斌，攻杀李农的果敢一下子蒸发不见了。她召来张豺，悲哭道：“先帝梓宫未殡，而祸难繁兴。如今皇嗣冲幼，托之于将军您，有何计谋可以匡济时难呢？” 张豺武人，傻呆呆地不知怎么回答。 “向石遵封以高官，可以躲过此次灾难吗？”刘氏又问。 张豺唯唯。此时，这位一人之下、万人之上的大将军惶怖异常，根本想不出任何招数。 刘氏眼见张豺一个屁也放不出，只能自己拿主意，下令以石遵为丞相，领大司马、都督中外诸军，录尚书事，加黄钺、九锡，增封十郡。 张豺硬着头皮，大开城门，亲自于城外安阳亭跪迎彭城王石遵。没等张豺开口说两句奉承、道歉的话，石遵手一挥，数名士兵上前，一顿拳脚乱揍后把张豺捆起。 石遵贯甲曜兵，率数万劲卒自凤阳门而入，升于太武前殿，先至石虎大棺材前祭拜，然后，他进入东阁办事。 首先，他下令押送张豺于平乐市人多处公开斩首，并夷其三族。接着，又假借刘氏“皇太后”诏令，称“石世年幼，皇业至重，不能继承，以石遵继位”。 石遵假意谦让，群臣真心推举。石遵即位称帝，大赦天下，并下令上白围攻李农的军队回撤。他先封刘氏为太妃，石世为谯王，没过一天，就派人把这娘儿俩一起杀掉了。 石世这个小皇帝，只当了三十三天，就和母后一起脑袋搬家了。至此，赫赫匈奴刘氏连最后一点骨血在人世上也荡然无存了。
