Chapter 13 Section VII

What did Wang Jingwei eat in prison?Three meals a day consisted of a bowl of moldy old rice and a piece of salted radish. Tofu was only available once every five days, and half a catty of meat was given to each person during festivals. These days are basically not for human beings. It is here that Wang Jingwei wrote the four quatrains of "Being Caught Mouth" from the famous line "Using a knife to become a fast, not to lose the boy's head". The whole set of poems is: The streets and stones become infatuated, and the waves are full of sorrow; Flying alone is tireless, chasing the waves ashamedly.

Surprised by purple and bright red, it is difficult to render it from knowledge; When he has hairy hair, he recognizes bloodstains. Singing Yan City generously, being a prisoner of Chu calmly; Leading the knife into a fast, worthy of the boy's head. Keep the heart and soul, and pay the ashes for the remnants; The green phosphorescence is immortal, illuminating Yantai every night. Life imprisonment, when is the end?Wang Jingwei looked anxiously at the sky outside the iron window. Suddenly one day, a jailer stuffed in ten boiled eggs.Wang Jingwei took it in his hand in doubt, and immediately understood: it's her!

Wang Jingwei hurriedly turned the eggs over to check, and sure enough, there was a small word "bi" written on one of them! Wang Jingwei knew that Chen Bijun risked his life to go to Beijing to rescue him.She had bribed the jailer and was able to contact Wang Jingwei. Wang Jingwei wrote her the first poem: "Is it safe to say goodbye? Then we meet again and everything is bleak, and we can't bear to look back. The country is ruined and the family is destroyed. There is no end to regret, and I can't bear it in this life, adding to the sorrow of separation. The new year looks like yesterday in my eyes, and I tell my heart. We often join hands every night. A cavity of blood will be dissected for the king..." After the words, he wrote another five words "Don't stay in the capital and get in trouble", urging her to leave the dangerous capital as soon as possible.

Chen Bijun wrote a letter, and her letter can be regarded as a glorious document in the history of love: "Although the two of us are blocked by the high wall of the prison and cannot meet, I feel that our sincerity can pass through the thick high wall. I will obey Your advice is to leave Beijing immediately, but there is one thing I want to discuss with you before that. It is no longer possible for you and me to hold a formal wedding ceremony, but from now on, you and I will swear to be husband and wife in our hearts, you Do you like it?" With tears in his eyes, Wang Jingwei bit his index finger and wrote the word "Nuo" in bright red.

Wang Jingwei, who spent time in prison, did not expect the revolutionary situation to develop so quickly. After only one and a half years in prison, the Wuchang Uprising broke out, and then all over the country responded, and the Qing Dynasty fell apart. The precarious Qing court hastened to announce that as long as someone was released on bail, political prisoners could be released immediately.Yuan Shikai, who had just made a comeback from his hometown and was full of long-term plans, took the initiative to serve as the bailman for the top political prisoners Wang Jingwei and Huang Fusheng. On November 6, 1911, Wang Jingwei and Huang Fusheng regained their freedom. More than 1,000 people from all walks of life in Beijing flocked to the gate of the prison of the Ministry of Justice to welcome the release of these two heroes who assassinated the regent.

In December 1911, Wang Jingwei took a boat to Shanghai, where Chen Bijun was waiting for him.
