Chapter 1 Part One: How to Speak English Preface

beautiful english 张海迪 1294Words 2018-03-20
Many years ago, I started to learn English by myself. The first book I read was a college English textbook. Although it was the first book, for me, who never went to school, the content in the book was far beyond my ability to learn. That day, I was a little excited holding the textbook, but also a little dazed, not knowing how to start studying. For several days in a row, I had to read that book over and over every day, but I didn’t know any words in it, I only knew ABCDEFG…they were all kinds of symbols I got when I was studying mathematics, geometry, chemistry and physics by myself.I was thinking, when can I remember the words, when can I read the text, and when can I finish the book?It is full of question marks, everything is unknown and full of novelty.

A few days later, I stabilized my impetuous heart and started to read quietly, starting with the letter A, one by one.But I don't know what they read, it's like walking into a dark tunnel, always blocked by invisible obstacles, and no light can be seen. When I was most helpless, I also asked myself in frustration, why do you have to make things difficult for yourself? Why do you want to learn English?can't you give upHowever, another stubborn voice from the bottom of my heart gave me support—since I have chosen this path, I must persevere to the end. Those long days, no matter day or night, I always held the book stubbornly, and finally memorized all the words and memorized all the texts.Previously, this was a goal I set for myself.I drew a waving red flag on the last page of that book - I figured if I got to that page, I'd have to cheer and say something in English, maybe I'd shed a tear...

It was a quiet night, I fell on the table and finished the last exercise.I saw the fluttering flag, and I didn't cheer or say anything. At that moment, I had only one wish - I want a new book, I want to study the second book, and the third book... Since then, I have never given up on English learning. After copying one vocabulary after another and doing exercises one after another, I really want to prove my learning results. In that small county town, I could only listen to intermittent English 900 from the other side of the ocean every night, or write letters to my friends in English. That fall, I also wrote a letter in English to Mr. Leonard Woodcock, the director of the U.S. Liaison Office in China. I have no way of knowing whether he received my letter or what he thought of it. I express the beautiful sentiment of wishing the tree of friendship between the people of China and the United States to be evergreen.

This is my youth, the kind of infinite desire for learning, which always makes me enthusiastic. However, my enthusiasm sometimes seems childish.Once, my sister bought me a radio English textbook, and I really cheered, and at the same time threw the book into the air, and when it fell, it fell into the washbasin exactly!I dried the book on the windowsill and it turned into a lasagna... The years of youth are drifting away in every day's efforts. How much I miss those beautiful springs and autumns, and those seasons when flowers bloom and fall.I really hope that a person's life can go round and round, let me run forever on the track of learning, what kind of happiness that would be!

Today, I write this book to let it recall the days of learning English, and I also dedicate it as a gift to friends who love English. Maybe people can see my learning track from this book. In fact, this is also our The pursuit of this generation. In the book, I quoted some English letters and diaries from the past. In some places, I made corrections, especially the mistakes in Chinese translation, but the first English letter was not revised, only annotations were made, in order to preserve the learning imprint.I think that self-learning English has a process from wrong to right, from shallow to deep. Some years have passed, and I found that English has finally improved in these small and tiresome revisions.

Here, let us recall those confusions, those hardships, and of course, the joy of learning English. Heidi
