Chapter 238 Who created the Wu-Tang School?

In Mr. Jin Yong’s story, it is said that Zhang Sanfeng’s real name is Zhang Junbao, and he was an apprentice of Shaolin Fireworker Tuo Jueyuan. The master and apprentice were kicked out because they violated Shaolin’s prohibition against learning martial arts without authorization. Later, he adapted according to Shaolin Kung Fu and created Wudang group. Wudang is the sect of the inner family, which is the consensus of contemporary martial arts, so how exactly did the Wudang sect start? What about Wudang boxing? There is a saying that the Wudang School was created by Zhang Sanfeng, a man of the Song Dynasty. It is said that Zhang Sanfeng was a Taoist priest in Wudang Mountain in the late Northern Song Dynasty. Huizong summoned him to Beijing, met bandits in Taoism, and in his dream, Emperor Yuan taught him boxing techniques. The next day Zhang Sanfeng killed more than a hundred bandits by himself, and founded the Neijia Boxing School.

There are also legends that Zhang Sanfeng originated from Shaolin, mastered the essence of Shaolin five boxing and eighteen styles, integrated them into ten Duan Mian Changquan, changed the method of fighting and fighting into the method of defending against the enemy, and his style is similar to that of Shaolin masters. Because of their differences, they became a school of their own and created the Wudang sect; also known as the inner family. After ten years of success, the reputation has been greatly improved, and there are also branches of Taiji, Xingyi, and Bagua. There was indeed Zhang Sanfeng in history. His real name was Zhang Quanyi, and his other name was Zhang Junbao. Sanfeng was his Taoist name. Some people say that he is from the Song Dynasty, some say that he is from the Jin Dynasty, and some say that he is from the Yuan and Ming Dynasties.Because he is very famous in Taoist legends, he was carried out as the patriarch of the Wudang School. This statement is not actually true history.

The official spread of Wudang School probably began in the Ming Dynasty.Ming Chengzu Zhu Di ascended the throne, admired Wudang Taoism, and mobilized 300,000 migrant workers. It took 13 years to build 33 architectural complexes in Wudang Mountain, known as the Eight Palaces, the Second Temple, the Thirty-six Nunnery, and the Seventy-two Rock Temple. Stretching for 140 miles, the architectural pattern is designed by the Ministry of Industry according to the story of Zhenwu Xiuxian in the scriptures.Up to now, on the beam of the main hall of Zixiao Palace in Wudang Mountain, there are still handwritings written in the eleventh year of Yongle (1413) and the twelfth year of the reign of the Holy King Yujia in the Ming Dynasty. On the cliff of Tiantianmen, there are four big characters "one pillar supports the sky", which is magnificent. The Taihe Palace on the top of Tianzhu Peak, also known as the Golden Palace, enshrines the bronze and gilt seated statue of Zhang Sanfeng. The golden age of Wudang Taoism began at this time, and Wudang's martial arts sect also came into being in this golden age.

Since Wudang School was not created by Zhang Sanfeng, then Wudang Boxing was not taught by Zhang Sanfeng. The earliest record of teaching Neijiaquan in history is Wang Zong from Shaanxi. Zhang Songxi was born in Wenzhou around the first year of Zhengde (1506) and died in Yuping, Guizhou around the first year of Emperor Guangzong Taichang (1620).Zhang Songxi claims to have obtained the true biography of Zhang Sanfeng and is the third generation successor of the Wudang School. He later traveled around the rivers and lakes, got the true biography of Emei, and founded the Wudang Songxi School of Neijiaquan, and the Wudang School became famous ever since.

The martial arts of the Wudang school are characterized by strengthening the muscles and bones and luck.Emphasizes internal strength training, paying attention to static braking, softness to overcome rigidity, shortness to overcome strength, slowness to fastness, intentional luck, energy to move the body, leaning towards femininity, focusing on breathing, using short hands, Wudang Kungfu does not focus on attacking, However, it should not be easily violated. In short, Wudang, like Shaolin, is a boxing system named after the region at first, but later it greatly exceeded the scope of the region. Wudang School is not only in Wudang Mountain, just like Shaolin is not only in Shaolin Temple, it represents a large number of Similar characteristics, such as mastering tranquility, mastering softness, and martial arts sects from Taoism, are a broad concept.
