Chapter 14 Section 6 The Inland Migration and Expansion of Frontier Nationalities

At that time, outside the territory of the Eastern Han Dynasty, there were Goguryeo, Puyu, Yi (yiyi) Lou, Woju and other national or tribal regimes in the northeast.Goguryeo was founded in the late 1st century BC, starting in the Yalu River Basin, and then gradually expanded to the upper reaches of the Hun River, occupying the old land of Xuantu County in the Western Han Dynasty.About AD 3, Goguryeo established its capital in Domestic City (to the east of Ji'an City, Jilin Province today), and then continued to develop to the central part of the Korean Peninsula. In the early years of the Eastern Han Dynasty, with the surrender of the Southern Huns, Wuhuan and Xianbei who were originally attached to the Southern Huns also surrendered to the Han Dynasty.Wuhuan moved to the northern border region of the Han Dynasty, leaving the Mongolian plateau.Xianbei did not move inland, but seized the old land of Wuhuan. In 91 AD, the Northern Xiongnu moved west after being defeated by the Han army, and the Xianbei immediately occupied the Mongolian plateau.By the middle of the 2nd century, the Xianbei formed a tribal alliance, controlling the vast area from the present-day Altai Mountains, north of the Yinshan Mountains, west of the Greater Khingan Mountains, north to Lake Baikal, and gradually encroached on the border of the Han Dynasty from west to east from Yinshan Mountains to Liaodong. The remnants of the Huns remained in the Irtysh River Basin in the southwest of the Altai Mountains.

Wusun in the northwest broke away from the control of the Changshifu of the Western Regions and became an independent regime, occupying the area between today's mountains and Lake Balkhash. On the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, there were tribes such as Tang Yan [mao Mao] and Faqiang. At that time, there were not many contacts with the Central Plains, so there were no written records left. However, the Qiang people in the eastern part of the plateau near the Huangshui River Basin, the Sichuan Basin and the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau had more contact with the Han people and entered the Han area in various ways.

The island of Taiwan is called Yizhou, and the people on the island have already communicated with the mainland.Hainan Island is called Zhuyazhou, and the communication with the mainland is still quite frequent.
