Chapter 192 six methods

One of the most important theories of Chinese painting. Xie He of the Southern Qi Dynasty put forward the so-called "six methods of drawing and drawing" in "Ancient Painting Record Preface".These six methods are: the first is vivid charm, the second is bone method using brush, the third is to respond to objects and images, the fourth is to add color according to the category, the fifth is to manage the position, and the sixth is to transfer and imitate. The highest aesthetic ideal of the people of the Six Dynasties is verve or charm. "General Discussion of Poetry Mirror": "Everything that is not strange but beautiful, and the scenery is not beautiful but wonderful, all rhymes." Fan Wen's "Poetry Eyes of Qianxi" said: "The rhyme is extremely beautiful." He also said : "Everything has its beauty, and it must have its rhyme. If the rhyme is not strong, it will lose its beauty." Therefore, the "Six Laws" put forward the requirement of "vivid charm" from the very beginning. This is the general outline of the Six Laws, and it is also the highest state pursued by Chinese painting. But "vivid charm" is an abstract thing, and the following two to five items are the specific requirements to achieve "vivid charm".Including pen, color, image, composition and other elements.Only when all these are done well can it be possible to "live spirit".The sixth is the way to acquire the second to fifth techniques, that is, to learn copying from tradition and ancient people. This is a complete set of painting theory, which is still regarded as canon today.
