Chapter 59 Hua Qiuping/Editor of the first Pipa score

Hua Qiuping (1785-1858) was named Wenbin, styled Boya, and nicknamed the owner of the Jueyun Hall.Wuxi people.He is good at playing guqin, especially pipa, and likes to sing Kunqu opera.On weekdays, he pays attention to collecting Kunqu opera and Jiangnan folk songs. After sorting out and ordering the scores, he compiled the Jiangnan brand small music score "Jianyunguan Xiaosong" in the 23rd year of Jiaqing, signed "Ehu Autumn Water Picking Pingren".There are thirteen songs including "Qingping Ci", "Ruanping Diao" and "Matou Song", which provide precious historical materials for the study of Jiangnan folk music in Ming and Qing Dynasties.In the same year, he and his seventh brother Hua Wengui jointly reviewed and sorted out and compiled three volumes of "Pipa Pu", which included 62 small songs and six sets of big songs, which were engraved in the 24th year of Jiaqing (1819). An officially published collection of pipa music notation, including the biography of the northern and southern schools. Established a relatively complete fingering symbol system, which played an important role in the arrangement and dissemination of pipa music and the spread of pipa playing art.

He is good at calligraphy and painting, especially in seal cutting. He also bypasses medical theory and specializes in laryngology. He once co-authored "Secretary of Laryngology" with his younger brother Wenxie and Wen Gui, which was widely circulated at that time.
