Chapter 31 midnight reflections
The bell broke the silence of midnight,
mockingly prompt
We ask ourselves: the days that pass
What exactly did it bring us?
—This unlucky day is so worrying:
It's the thirteenth again, it's Friday again,
Although we remember clearly,
But still passed it off like a heretic.
We have blasphemed Jesus, blasphemed
The most indisputable gods!
like some misshapen croyce
diners at the table,
To please the savage,
In order to show off the demons' vain servants
flattery, we insult
Those we love flatter those we hate;
We grieve the weak, despised without cause,
We have become servile executioners;
to the utter folly, to the bull
a tribute to the stupidity of the head;
We kiss dumb fools
And express infinite worship,
we are corrupt
The shimmering blessing that emanates.
Finally, in order to put the vertigo
Drowned in frenzy, we've come so far
As if proud of poetic talent, increasingly
the excitement of falling things
honored priest
Drink before you're thirsty, eat before you're hungry! ...
—Blow out the lamp, and do not hesitate,
Let's hide in the dark depths!
