Chapter 3 first act

The woodcutter's hut The interior of a woodcutter's hut is crude and rustic, but by no means grim.A fire was simmering in the fireplace.Kitchen utensils, wardrobes, large bread boxes, wall clocks, spinning machines, taps, etc.A lamp was burning on the table.A dog and a cat curled up on either side of the corner of the closet, asleep with their noses hidden under their tails.Between them lay a large lump of blue and white sugar cubes.A round birdcage hung on the wall, containing a turtle dove. There are two closed shutters in the background. There is a stool under one window. The entrance door is on the left, with a bar across it.There is another door on the right. There is an escalator leading to the attic. On the right are two small beds for children, with two chairs and neatly folded clothes at the head of the bed.

When the curtain came up, Tytyl and Mytyl were sleeping soundly on the small bed.Tytyl's mother approached them both for the last time, bent down, and looked at them for a moment, and Tytyl's father poked his head in through the half-open door, and she beckoned to him with her hand, one finger on her lips, Tell him to be silent, then blow out the lamp, and go out from the right with your feet up.For a moment the stage remained dimly lit, and then a patch of light filtered in through the shutters, growing brighter and brighter. The lamp on the table turned on again, and the two children seemed to have woken up, turning over and sitting on the bed.

Tytyl is Mytyl? Mytyl is Tytyl? Tytil, are you asleep? What about you, Mittel? Tytil no, I'm not asleep, am I talking to you? ... Mytyl, today is Christmas, isn't it? ... Tytil isn't here yet; it's tomorrow. But Santa Claus won't bring us anything this year... Mytyl why? ... TYLTYL I heard from my mother that she couldn't come to town and tell him to come... but he will come next year... Mittel will be there early next year, right? ... It's still early for Tytil... He's going to the rich kid's house tonight... Is it Mytil? ... Tytil look! ... Mom forgot to turn off the lights! ...I have an idea.

What's Mytyl's idea? ... Tytil, let's get up right away... How about Mittel... Tytil, there's no one here anyway...you look through the shutters... Mitchell!how bright it is! ... TYLTYL Here are the festive lights. What festival is Mytil celebrating? Festive at the rich kids' homes across from Tytil. Here are the Christmas tree lights.Let's open the window... Can Mityl let us open it? Tyltyl of course, it's just the two of us anyway... Can you hear the music? ...let's get up... [The two children get up, run to a window, climb up on a stool, and throw open the shutters.A bright light shone into the room. The two children looked out greedily.

Tytil saw it all! ... MYTIL (occupies only a tiny bit of space on the stool) I can't see... It's snowing in Tytil! ...Look, two six-horse carts! ... Twelve little boys stepped out of Mytyl's car! ... Tytil you are so stupid! ...this is the little girl... Mytyl, they all wear trousers... Tytil, you're really good...don't push me like that! ... Mytyl I didn't even touch you. TYLTYL (takes up all the stools) You've taken up all the space...   Mytyl, but I'm out of room! ... Say no more, Tytil, I see trees! ... Mittel what tree? ... Tytyl's Christmas tree! ...you just look at the wall! ...

Mittel, I have no place, I can only see the walls... TYLTYL (gives him a little space) Well, you have enough room, don't you? ...This is the best position, right? ... how bright it is!how bright it is! ... What are they doing making such a fuss? ... TYLTYL They're playing music. Mittel and the others are getting angry, right? ... Tyltyl is not, but it's annoying enough. Mytyl has another cart with some white horses! ... Tytyl, be quiet! ... Just look at it! ... What is that shiny gold thing Mytyl hangs behind the branch? ... Isn't Tytil a toy? ... knives, guns, soldiers, cannons...

What about the Mittel dolls, do you think there are any hanging dolls? ... Tyltyl doll? ... how silly; it's no fun ... What is Mittel's table full of? ... Tytil is a pastry, fruit, cream and jam tart... Mittel I had it once when I was a kid... I've eaten Tytil too; it's better than bread, but it's too little... There are quite a few of them in Mytil...the table is full...are they going to eat? ... Tyltyl dares to say yes; what are you doing if you don't eat it? ... Why don't they eat it right away? ... Tytil because they're not hungry... Mytyl (surprised) Aren't they hungry? ...why are you not hungry? ...

Tytil and the others can eat whatever they want... Mytyl (doubt) like this every day? ... That's what Tytil heard... Will Mytil and the others eat up all of them? ...Would you give someone a little? ... Tytil to whom? ... Mitchell gives us... Tytil and the others don't know us... Mytyl, what if we ask them for it? ... Tytil couldn't do that. Why can't Mytyl? ... Tytil for not allowing it. MYTIL (clapping) Oh!They are so pretty! ... TYLTIL (excited) They laughed, they laughed! ... Mytyl those kids are dancing! ... Tyltyl Yes, let's dance too! ... [They stamp their feet happily on the stool.

O Mytil! What fun! ... Tytyl made them snacks! ...they're within reach! ...they ate it!They ate! They ate! ... Little Mytir ate it too! ...some took two, three, four! ... TYLTYL (ecstatically) Oh!How wonderful! ...how wonderful! How wonderful! ... Mytyl (counting imaginary snacks) Oh, I got twelve! ... As for me, Tytil, I have four times twelve! ...but I'll give you a little bit... [There is a knock on the door. TYLTYL (suddenly stops, frightened) What's the matter? ... MYTIL (panicked) It's daddy! ... [While hesitating to open the door, the latch creaks and lifts automatically; the door opens slightly, and a little old woman in green clothes and a red hat flashes in.She is a hunchbacked, lame, one-eyed woman; her nose and chin are close together, and she walks stooped on crutches.Needless to say, this is a fairy.

Fairy, do you have singing grass and blue birds here? ... TYLTYL We have grass here, but we can't sing... Mytyl Tytyl had a bird. Tytil, but I can't give it away. Why can't fairies send people away? ... Tytil because that's mine. Fairies, of course, is a reason.where is this bird ... TYLTYL (pointing to the cage) In the cage... Fairy (putting on glasses to watch the bird) I don't want this one; the color is not blue enough. The one I want, you must find it for me. Tyltyl, but I don't know where the bird is... I don't know where the fairy is.So I have to find it.The most I can do without is the grass that can sing; but I must have the blue bird. This is for my little girl, who is very ill at the moment.

What's wrong with Tytil? ... The fairy could not tell what the disease was; she wanted to be happy... Is Tytil? ... Fairy, do you know who I am? ... Tytyl, you are a bit like our neighbour, Mrs. Berango... Fairy (suddenly annoyed) It's not like...never mind...it's disgusting! ...I am the fairy Belle Luna... Tytil!great…… Fairies, you must go out and look for birds at once. Tytil, will you come with us? ... Fairy I can't go at all, because I'm stewing beef this morning, and if I'm away for more than an hour, I'm going to spill it... (pointing to the ceiling, the fireplace, and the window in turn) Are you going out from here, there, or that way? ... TYLTYL (pointing timidly at the door) I'd rather get out here... Fairy (suddenly annoyed again) Absolutely not, the habit is irritating! ... (pointing to the window) Come on, let's get out of here! ... What are you waiting for? ... get dressed right away... (The two children follow her orders and get dressed quickly) I'll help Mittel get dressed... Tytil we have no shoes... It doesn't matter fairy.I'm going to give you a little magic hat.where are mom and dad... TYLTIL (pointing to the door on the right) asleep inside... Where are Fairy Grandpa and Grandma? ... Tytil, they are all dead... Fairy where are your little brothers and sisters...do you have any brothers or sisters? ... Tytyl has; three little brothers... Mytil has four little sisters... Where are the fairies? ... Tytil and the others are all dead too... Fairies, do you want to see them again? ... Tytil Oh, yes! ...see you soon! ... Let them out! ... I didn't bring fairies in my pocket...but they will fall from the sky; you will see them when you pass through the land of longing. That is, on the way to find the blue bird. After the third intersection, on the left, you can find it in a while. ——What were you doing when I knocked on the door just now? ... TYLTYLE We're playing and having snacks. Fairy, do you have any snacks? ...where are the snacks? ... Tytyl is in a rich kid's house... Come and see, how handsome it is! ... [He pulls the Fairy to the window. Fairy (at the window) It's someone else who can eat snacks! ... Tyltyl is good; but we can see everything... Fairy, don't you blame them? ... Why is Tytil complaining? ... Fairies because they eat everything up.I don't think they should give you a little... There's nothing wrong with Tytil, because their family is rich... right? ...their home is so beautiful! ... Fairies are not as beautiful as your home. Where is Tytil? ...Our house is dark and small, and we don't have any snacks... The fairy is exactly the same on both sides; you just didn't see clearly... Tyltyl No, I see very well, my eyes are fine.Papa clock on the church can't see what time it is, but I can see it... Fairy (suddenly annoyed) I'm going to say you didn't see clearly! ...do you see me clearly? ...Who am I like? ... (Tyltyl keeps silent in embarrassment) Hey, you should answer!Let me test if you can see clearly... am I beautiful or ugly? . . . (Tyltyl grows more and more embarrassed, and remains silent) Don't you want to answer? ...Am I young and you are very old? ...Is my face pink or sallow? ...Maybe I'm a hunchback? ... TYLTYLE (consoling) No, no, the hunchback is not bad... On the contrary, fairies, seeing your expression, people will believe that you are very hunchback... Am I a hooked nose, and my left eye has been gouged out? ... Tytil no, no, I didn't say that... who took your left eye out? ... Fairy (getting even more annoyed) left eye not gouged out! ...You poor boy is really rude! ... My left eye is more beautiful than the right; it is bigger, brighter, and blue like the sky ... Can you see my hair? ...as golden as wheat...as pure gold! ...I can't hold my head up because it's so much...my blond hair is growing all over the place...you see my hands don't you? ... [She spreads two small locks of gray hair. Not bad Tytil, I saw a few... Fairy (angry) A few! ... It's a lock, a bunch, a handful!Like waves of gold! ... I know that some people turn a blind eye; I don't think you are such a nasty blind person, are you? ... Tytil, no, no, as long as it is not covered, I can see clearly... Fairies are hidden things, and you should still be bold enough to see them! . . . Man is a queer man. . . without fairies, one can see nothing clearly, and one cannot feel at all. . . . Fortunately, I always have with me all the necessities to make my eyes open. . . . I take something out of my pocket. up? ... Tytil oh!What a beautiful little green hat! ...What is that shiny thing on the cap badge? ... Fairies are big diamonds that make people's eyes bright... Seriously, Tytil? ... Fairies seriously; just put this hat on your head, and turn the diamond a little: just like this from right to left, do you see? ...then the diamond squeezes on the prominence of the forehead which no one else can see, so it can brighten the eyes of the heart... There's nothing bad about Tytil, right? ... Fairies are just the opposite, diamonds are divine...you can see right away what's inside things; for example, the soul of things like bread, wine, pepper... Can the soul of Mytil Sugar also be seen? ... Fairy (suddenly loses temper) Needless to say! ...I don't like to ask useless questions...Sugar souls are more interesting than pepper souls...Look, I gave you something like this to help you find blue birds...I know the invisibility ring and the flying carpet are good You'd be more useful... but I've locked both of these in the cabinet and lost the key... Ah!I almost forgot... (pointing to the diamond) Look, hold it like this, turn it a little bit, you can see the past... turn it again, you can see the future... It's very strange and effective , and no sound... Papa Tytyl is taking it from me... Fairies are invisible to him; as long as you wear it on your head, no one can see it... Do you want to try it? . . . (she puts Tytil's green hat on) Now you turn the diamond... just turn it... [Tyl has just turned the diamond, and everything takes a strange mutation. The old fairy suddenly turned into a stunning princess; the stones that built the wall gleamed and shone like sapphires, and then became exquisite and translucent, shining like priceless gems. The shabby furniture looked alive and shining; the white wooden table became solid and luxurious, like a marble table, and the glass face of the grand clock seemed to blink and smile kindly. The door through which the clock swung back and forth was half opened, and the hours flashed, holding hands, laughing and dancing to the sound of the music. Tytil (pointing at all the clocks and screaming) Who are these beautiful ladies? ... Fear not, fairies; it's the time of your life, and they're all willing to show their faces and be free... Why are the walls so bright, Tytyl? ...Is it made of sugar or gemstones? ... For fairies, all stones are equally shiny, and all stones are precious stones; but people can only distinguish a few of them... [While they are talking, the fairy art continues to appear, becoming more and more perfect. The souls of the four-pound loaf are all like Mr. Good, wearing bread-yellow tights, sprinkled with flour, slipping out of the big bread box in a hurry, dancing around the table; Tight, grinning, chasing bread. Who are these naughty fellows Tytil? ... Never mind the fairies; here's the soul of the four-pound loaf, cramped enough in the big bread-box, to come out and lighten while the truth comes out...   Where's Tytyl, that big red guy who smells bad? ... Fairy boo! ...be quiet, it's fire...he has a bad temper. [The fairy art continues to manifest, the dog and the female cat crouching at the foot of the closet let out a loud cry at the same time, and then disappear into the dark pit, and two people appear on the spot, one of them is wearing the mask of a bulldog, and the other is wearing a cat mask. The little man in the face of a dog—hereafter called a dog—runs to Tytyl at once, embraces him, and makes out with him furiously and loudly, while the little woman in the face of a cat— From now on, it will be simply referred to as the cat - first cut the hair, wash the hands, smooth the beard, and then approach Mittel. Dog (barks, jumps, bumps things, is obnoxious) My little fairy! ……good morning!good morning! My little fairy! ...Finally there is such a day to talk! How many words do I have to tell you! ...I used to bark and wag my tail and never mind! ……You do not understand what I mean! ...but now! ……good morning!good morning! ……I love you! ……I love you! ... Do you want me to play tricks? ...do you want me to stand on my hind legs? ...Do you want me to walk on my forefoot or dance on a tightrope? ... TYLTYL (to the Fairy): What's the matter with Mr. Doghead? ... Fairy, don't you see it? ...this is the soul of Tilo that you unleashed... THE CAT (approaches Mytyl, politely, and holds out her hand politely) Good morning, miss... you're so pretty this morning! ... Good morning MYTIL, ma'am... (to the fairy) Who is this? ... Fairy That's easy to see; it's the soul of Tillette that reaches out to you... Embrace her... The dog (pushes the cat away) kiss me too! ... I kissed the little fairy! ... I want to kiss the little girl! ... I want to kiss everyone! ...Awesome! ... everyone can be happy! ... Let me frighten Tillette! ...Wow!Wang!Wang! ... Mr. Cat, I don't know you... Fairy (threats the dog with a stick) You, just stay here; otherwise, I will teach you that you will still be speechless until you die of old age... [The fairy art continues to manifest: the spinning wheel in one corner starts to spin, flashing bright light, which is dazzling; in another corner, the water tap sings with a piercing voice, and after a while it becomes a shining spring, flowing The sink was full, and turned into layers of pearls and emeralds, and the soul of water jumped out of it, dressed like a girl, dripping with water, with long hair loose, tears all over her face, and immediately fought with fire. Who is that dripping Mrs. Tytyl? ... Don't be afraid fairies, that's water from the tap... [The milk jug overturns, falls off the table, and smashes to the ground; from the milk rises a tall, shy woman in white, who seems afraid of everything. Who is Tytyl's timid lady in her pajamas? ... The fairy is the milk that broke the jug... [The large sugar cube placed at the kitchen's feet gradually expands and grows larger, the wrapper is torn, and a hypocritical, hypocritical person emerges, wearing a half-white and half-blue long blouse, with a wide smile, walking towards Mitty you. Mytyl (uneasy) What is he going to do? ... The fairy is the soul of sugar! ... MYTIL (relieved) Does he have maltose? ... Fairy has candy in his pocket, and his fingers are sticks of candy... [The lamp on the table is overturned, and the flames burst up again, turning into a dazzling beauty. She stood motionless in a long, transparent, glittering veil. TYLTYL This is the queen! Mittel this is the Holy Mother! ... Fairies are not, children, this is light... [The iron pans on the shelves are spinning like Dutch tops, the closet door slams, and moon-white and scarlet cloths pour out, which is really beautiful; from the attic escalator rolls down colorful rags and rags, mixed with the cloths Together. At this moment there were three heavy knocks on the right door. TYLTYL (panic) It's daddy! ...he heard us talking! ...) The fairy spins the diamond! ...turn left to right! . . . (Tyltyl turns the diamond hastily) Don't go so fast! ……my God!There is no way to remedy it! ...you turn too fast. It's too late for these things to return to their original positions, and we're getting bored... [The fairy becomes an old woman again, the walls no longer shine, the hours return to the clock, and the spinning wheel stops spinning. In the rush and chaos, I saw the fire running wildly all over the house, looking for the fireplace.A loaf of four-pound loaves was crying because it couldn't find its place in the bread-box. What's the matter with the fairy? ... There's no room in the bread (tears) box! ... Fairy (bends to look at the box) And, and... (pushes the other bread to where it was) Come on, squeeze in... [There is another knock on the door. Bread (panicked, unable to squeeze into the box no matter what) There is no other way! ...he will eat me first! ... Dog (jumping around Tyltyl) My little fairy! ...I'm still here! ...I can still talk! ...I can still hug you! ...and hugs, and hugs, and hugs! ... Fairy, why can't you go back? ... are you still here? ... Dog I'm lucky...I didn't have time to get back into silence; the sliding door closed too fast... My cat closed that door too fast...what's going to happen? ...is there any danger? Fairies, my God, I should tell you the truth: whoever travels with these two children dies at last... What if the cat doesn't end up with them? ... The fairy can only live for a few more minutes... Cat (to dog) Come on, let's go back to the den... Dog no no! ……I do not want to! ... I want to accompany the little fairy! ...I want to talk to him anytime! ... cat fool! ... [There is another knock on the door. Bread (wailing loudly) I don't want to die at the weekend! …I’m going back to the breadbox right away! ... FIRE (running around the room incessantly, whistling restlessly) I can't find the fireplace! ... Water (I can't get into the faucet no matter what) I can't get into the faucet! ... SUGAR (dry anxiously around the wrapper) I tore the wrapper! ... Nai (indifferent and shy): My little pot is broken! ... Fairies oh my god, they are so stupid! ... stupid and cowardly! …Then you would rather continue to stay in the air-suffocating boxes, nests and water pipes than accompany these two children to look for bluebirds? ... All (except Dog and Light) Yes!yes!Go back immediately! ...my plumbing! ...my breadbox! ...my fireplace! ...my cat litter! ... Fairy (speaks to Guang, who is staring at the broken lamp in a daze) And you, Guang, what do you want? ... I just want to be with the kids... DOG (barking with joy) I want to keep the kids company too!I want to be with the kids too! ... That's fine for fairies. And you can't do otherwise now; it's up to you, you have to go with us... But you, fire, don't get close to others, and you, dog, don't play tricks on cats, and you, water, you Gotta restrain myself, don't bleed all over the place... [There is a loud knock on the right door. TYLTYL (listens) still papa! ...he's up now, and I hear him walking... Fairy, let's go out of the window...you all go to my house, I will dress you animals and things in the right clothes... (to Bread) And you, Bread, take the cage for the blue bird... ...you'll be in charge of the cage from now on... Hurry, hurry, don't waste time. [The window suddenly stretches downwards, resembling a door. After everyone walked out, the window returned to its original state and was closed as before. The room darkened again, and the two small beds were lost in shadow. The right door is ajar, revealing Tytil's father's head. Father Tytyl is fine...the crickets are chirping... Mother Tyltyl, did you see the child? ... Needless to say, Tytil's father...they slept very peacefully... Mother Tytyl I hear them breathe... [The door closes again. [The curtain falls.
