Chapter 1 Preface to the English Translation of Wild Grass

weed 鲁迅 486Words 2018-03-20
Mr. Feng Y. S. was shown me the English translation by his friend, and asked me to say a few words. It's a pity that I don't know English, so I can only speak a few words by myself. But I hope that the translator will not think that I have only done half of what he hoped. These more than twenty essays, as noted at the end of each essay, were written in Beijing from 1924 to 26, and were successively published in the periodical "Yusi".Probably just a small impression at any time.Because it was difficult to speak directly at that time, the wording was sometimes very vague. Let me give you a few examples.I wrote "My Broken Love" because I satirized the lovelorn poems that were popular at that time, I wrote the first one because I hated the many bystanders in society, and I wrote "Hope" because I was surprised by the depression of young people.

"Such a Warrior" was written with the feeling that scholars of letters helped warlords. "Laye" was written for those who love me and want to preserve me.After Duan Qirui’s government shot unarmed civilians, I wrote "In the Pale Bloodstains", and I had already fled to other places; when the Fengtian faction and the Zhili faction warlords were at war, I wrote "Awakening", after that I could no longer live in Beijing . Therefore, it can also be said that most of them are pale white flowers on the edge of hell, and of course they are not beautiful. But this hell must also be lost. This was told by the faces and tone of several eloquent and venomous heroes who had not yet achieved their goals at the time.So I wrote "The Lost Good Hell".

Later, I stopped doing such things. In the era of daily change, such articles and even such feelings are no longer allowed to exist.I thought this might be a good thing. The preface for the translation should also end here.
