Human existence is like sleep.Man is asleep.Even if you are awake in any way, you are actually sleeping. To initiate is to come into intimate contact with an enlightened being.Unless you are in close contact with an enlightened being, it is impossible for you to come out of your sleep, because the mind can even dream that it is awake. The mind that can dream is now no longer asleep. When I say that man is asleep, this must be understood. We dream constantly, 24 hours a day.At night, we close our doors to the outside world and shut ourselves in to dream.During the day, the senses are open to the outside world, but inside is still dreaming.Close your eyes for a moment and you can be in the dream again; it is a continuum within. You are aware of the outside world, but that awareness cannot be separated from the dreaming mind. The outer world is imposed on the dreaming mind, but the dream inside goes on.That's why we don't see the real even when we say we are awake. We impose dreams on real existence, we never see the truth of things, what we see is always only our own projection.

If I look at you and I have a dream in my mind, then you become an object of projection.I will project my dream upon you, and whatever I know of you will forever be mixed with my dream, with my projection. When I love you, you appear different to me.You look completely different to me when I don't love you. You're not the same because I'm just using you as a screen on which to project my dreaming mind. When I love you, I dream differently, so you appear differently. When I don't love you, you are still the same you, still the same screen, but the projection is different, and now I use your screen to project another dream of mine.Dreams can change again, I can love you again, then you will look different again in my eyes.We never see the real face, what we see is always our own dream projected upon it.

I appear different to each of you, each of you projects something different on me.I am only one to myself. But if I'm dreaming, even I feel like I'm different from moment to moment because my interpretation is different from moment to moment. But if I am enlightened, then I am the same. The Buddha said that to test whether a person is enlightened, you only need to see whether he is consistent, just like sea water, no matter where it is, it is salty everywhere. All around you is a vague wall of projections, thoughts, ideas, concepts and interpretations. You are the projector, always on, projecting something that exists nowhere else but within you, and the whole becomes the screen, so by yourself it is never possible to be aware that you are asleep. There was a Sufi sage named Hijira. An angel appeared in his dream and told him to store as much well water as possible, because the next morning, all the water in the world would be poisoned by the devil, and people would go crazy if they drank it.

That whole night, the man stored a lot of water. If so, everyone went crazy the next day, but no one knew that the whole city went crazy.Only the dervish was not mad, yet the whole town said he was mad.He knew what was going on, but no one believed him.So he continued to drink his own water and remained alone. But he can't go on like this forever, the whole city lives in a completely different world. No one listened to him, and finally, there was a rumor that he should be caught and thrown in jail. They said he was crazy. One morning they came for him.Either treat him as a patient, or put him in prison, and he cannot be set free; because he has gone completely mad.Nobody understood what he said, he spoke another language.

The dervish could not understand. He tried to help them remember their past, but they had forgotten it, they knew nothing of the past, nothing of what existed before that maddening morning. They cannot understand, the dervish has become incomprehensible to them. They surrounded his house and seized him.The dervish said, "Give me a little more time, and I will heal myself." He ran to the common well, drank the water, and healed up.Now the whole town was happy: the dervish was well now, and now he was not mad.In fact, he's gone mad.Now he is part of the crowd. If everyone else is sleeping, you will never be aware that you are sleeping too.If everyone else is crazy and you are crazy, you will never be aware of it.

The so-called acceptance of enlightenment means that you have surrendered (surrender) to an enlightened person. You say, "I don't understand, I can't understand. I'm part of this crazy, sleeping world, and I'm dreaming all the time." Even a sleeping person can feel this way, because sleep isn't always very fast. deep.Sleep is unstable, it is not always deep, but sometimes deep and shallow.Just as ordinary sleep has many levels and many levels of fluctuations, the metaphysical sleep I am talking about also fluctuates.Sometimes you are right on the borderline, very close to the Buddha, and at this time you can somewhat understand what the Buddha is saying, what he is talking about.Of course you'll never quite understand what he's saying, but you'll at least get a glimpse of the truth.

So, a person who is on the limbo of metaphysical sleep will ask for an initiation. He can hear something, he can understand something, he can see something.Everything seemed to be in a fog, but he could feel something, so he could approach an enlightened person and surrender to him. That's the most a drowsy person can do.This surrender means he understands that something completely different from his sleep is happening. In some places, he felt it.He can't know it for sure, but he can feel it. Whenever a Buddha passes by, the person who is on the verge of sleep can recognize that there is something different about this person. He acts differently, talks differently, lives differently, walks differently; something happens to him.Anyone who is on the margin can feel it, but they are lethargic, and this marginal awareness is not permanent. They can fall back into sleep at any time.

So, they can surrender to an enlightened being before sinking into a deep level of unconsciousness. From the point of view of the person being initiated, this is initiation. He said, "I can't do anything by myself. I'm helpless. And I know that if I don't surrender at this moment, then I may fall asleep again, and then it will be impossible to surrender." So there are moments that just can't What is missed, once a person misses it, it may be impossible to get it again for hundreds of years or several lifetimes, because when you reach the critical line, you can't make the decision yourself. The reasons for it happening are intricate and beyond your grasp.

To the person being initiated, initiation is a letting go, a complete trust, a complete surrender. It can never be partial, if you surrender only partially then there is no surrender, you are deceiving yourself. There cannot be partial surrender, because then you have reservations, and this reservation will push you back into deep sleep. That unsurrendered part can be devastating in the end, and you can slip back into a deep sleep at any time. Surrender is always total. That is why trust is always needed in initiation.Trust is an absolute necessity, it requires complete trust.Once you surrender completely, things start to change; now you can never go back to your dream life. This surrender shatters the whole projection, the whole projecting mind, because the projecting mind is connected to the ego and without the ego it cannot exist. The ego is its center, its foundation. If you surrender, you are giving the foundation, you are giving up completely.

Attunement is when a sleeping person asks for help in attaining enlightenment, he surrenders to an enlightened person. It's simple, it's not complicated. When you go to a Buddha, a Jesus, and surrender yourself to him, you surrender your deep sleep, your dream. There is nothing else to hand over, because you have nothing left. You surrender these things: your slumber, your dreams, your meaningless past. So, from the point of view of the person receiving the initiation, it is surrendering the past; from the side of you that is being initiated, it is a responsibility for the future. He is responsible, and only he can be responsible; you can never be responsible. How can a sleeping person be responsible?Responsibility comes with enlightenment.

This is a fundamental law of life: the sleeping man is not even responsible for himself, the enlightened man is responsible even for others. If you go to an enlightened person and surrender to him, he will be especially responsible to you.So Krishna can say to Arjana in this way: "Leave everything, come to me, surrender at my feet." And Jesus can say: "I am the truth, I am the door, I am the gate, to I come here, I pass through me, and I will bear witness for you in the last day of your judgment, and I will answer for you." ①Krishna (Krishna): the eighth incarnation of Vishnu, one of the three major gods of Hinduism. —— Annotation ②Arjuna: One of the five brothers of the Pandava tribe, the protagonist in the Indian epic poem Mahabharata.Ajana hesitated before the battle, but his friend and master driver, Hei Tian, understood righteousness and abstained from responsibility as the way to be a human being. —— Annotation These are all metaphors.Every day is a day of judgment, every moment is a time of judgment, there will be no last day. These are just some of the phrases that can be understood by those who listen to Jesus. He's saying, "I will be accountable to you. When God asks a question, I will answer for you. I will be there as a witness. Surrender to me, and I will be your witness." This is a big responsibility. No one who is asleep can bear it, because it is difficult even to be responsible to yourself in sleep. You can be responsible to others only when you are no longer responsible to yourself, when you are totally unburdened, when you are empty. So, only an empty person can enlighten you, otherwise, no one can enlighten you, no special person can enlighten others. If that happens -- and it has happened so many times, it happens every day -- those who are themselves sleeping enlighten other sleeping people, the blind lead the blind, and both fall into the ditch. No one who is sleeping can initiate another, but the ego wants to enlighten. This egotistical attitude is deadly and very dangerous. The whole initiation, the whole mystery of it, the whole beauty of it, is made ugly by those who are not qualified to initiate.Only those who have no ego inside, who have no deep sleep inside, who have no dreams inside can be enlightened, otherwise, enlightenment is the greatest sin. In ancient times, it was not easy to receive enlightenment, it was the most difficult thing. One has to wait years to be initiated, and even a lifetime, one might wait. This kind of waiting is the basis of a test, it is a temper. For example, Sufis will give you attunement only after you have waited for a certain period of time. You can't ask questions, you can only wait until the teacher himself says the time has come. The mentor may be a shoemaker, and if you want to be enlightened, you have to help him make shoes for several years. You can't even ask him what shoemaking has to do with enlightenment. So, for 5 years you might just wait, just help the mentor make shoes. He may never talk about prayer, or meditation, he never talks about anything but shoemaking. You have waited five years...but this is a meditation, an unusual meditation, through which you will be purified. This simple waiting, this waiting without asking questions, will prepare the ground for total surrender. The initiation will happen only after a long wait, but after that, surrender is easy and the master can be responsible to his disciple. Now, the whole thing has changed, no one is prepared to wait, we have become very time conscious, we cannot wait for a moment.Because of this awareness of time, initiation has become impossible. You cannot be enlightened. You run past Buddha and you ask, "Will you enlighten me?" You are running, and when you are running in the street you meet Buddha.Even when you said that four or five word question, you kept running. The whole modern mind runs because of the fear of death. It is the first time that a person is so afraid of death, because for the first time, he is completely unaware of the immortality. We only realize that the body will die, and we do not realize that the inner consciousness is immortal. In ancient times some people were aware of the immortal, and because of their consciousness, their immortality, they created a calm atmosphere. At that time, it is easy to enlighten, then it is easy to wait, then it is easy to surrender, then it is easy for a master to be responsible for his disciples. All this is now difficult, but there is still no choice: Attunement is needed. If you are in a hurry, I can only enlighten you when you are running, because it is impossible to give you enlightenment in other situations.I cannot ask you to wait as a precondition.I must first enlighten you, and then prolong your waiting in many ways; by many means I will persuade you to wait.If I tell you first: "Wait for five years, then I will enlighten you." You cannot wait. But if I enlighten you, after that, I will be able to create all kinds of ways to make you wait. So, let it be like this, it will make no difference, the process will be the same.Because you can't wait, so I change, I will make you wait afterward.I will create many methods, many techniques just to make you wait.Because you can't just sit around and wait, I'm going to create some tricks for you, and I'll give you something to play with. You can play these tricks and it will become a wait. Then, you will be ready for the second initiation, the first in ancient times. The first initiation is formal, the second is informal, it happens like one, you don't ask me, I don't give it to you.It will happen, in the deepest part of being it will happen, and you will know it when it happens. The disciple surrenders, the master is responsible, this is the bridge of communication.Once you can surrender, the master will come.Master is there. There are always masters in this world. The world never lacks.Master, it always lacks disciples. But unless someone surrenders, that master can't do anything either. So, whenever you have a moment to surrender, don't miss it.Even if you cannot find someone to surrender to, surrender to existence. So whenever there is a moment of surrender, don't miss it, because then you are on the threshold, you are between sleep and waking, just surrender! If you can find someone to surrender to, that's great. If you can't find anyone, you can surrender to the universe, then the master will appear, he will come. When there is surrender He will come. You become empty, you become nothing, and the spiritual force rushes to you and fills you up. So, always remember, whenever you feel the need to surrender, don't miss the moment. The opportunity may not come again, or it may take hundreds of years to come again, which is an unnecessary waste of many lifetimes. When that moment comes, just surrender. Surrender to divinity, surrender to anything, even a tree, because the real thing is not to surrender to whom, the real thing is to surrender.Surrender to a tree, and the tree becomes your master; surrender to a stone, and the stone becomes a god.The real thing is surrender.Whenever there is surrender, there is always someone who is accountable to you. This is what initiation means.
