Chapter 2 no water, no moon

no water, no moon 奥修 15678Words 2018-03-20
Nun Chiyono studied for many years, but she still could not achieve enlightenment. One night, she was carrying an old wooden bucket filled with boiling water. As she was walking, she looked at the full moon reflected in the bucket. Suddenly, the bamboo bucket hoop broke, the bucket fell apart, and all the water ran out. Moon in the Water disappeared - and Chiyono became enlightened. She wrote this poem: This way and that way, I did my best to keep the bucket intact, Expect the fragile bamboo to never break. Suddenly, the bottom of the bucket collapsed, no more water, No more moon in the water—

It's empty in my hand. Enlightenment is always sudden, not achieved gradually, because all gradual things belong to the mind, and enlightenment is not of the mind, all levels belong to the mind, and enlightenment is beyond it, so you It is not possible to become enlightened step by step, you just jump in, you cannot go up the steps step by step, there are no steps.Enlightenment is like an abyss, you either jump or you don't jump. You cannot be partially enlightened, piecemeal enlightened, it is a whole -- either you are inside it, or you are outside it, just not progressing gradually.Remember one of the most basic things: Enlightenment doesn't happen piecemeal, it's total, whole, it happens as a whole, and that's why the mind never understands, the mind can understand anything that can What is divided, the mind can understand anything that is achieved step by step, because the mind is analysis, division, fragmentation, the mind understands the parts, the whole always escapes from it.So, if you let the mind go, then you will never achieve.

That's what happened: this nun, Chiyono, studied for many, many years, but nothing happened. The mind can learn about God, about enlightenment, about the ultimate, it can pretend to have understood everything. But God is not something you understand, and even if you knew everything about God, you would not know Him.Knowing is not about, whenever you say "about" then you are outside, you can go round and round, but you are not in the circle. When someone says, "I know about God," he's really saying he doesn't know anything, because how do you know anything about God?God is the center, not the periphery. You can know things, but you cannot know consciousness -- because a thing has no center, it is just the periphery, it has no self, there is not a center in it, things are just outside, you can know it.Science is knowledge, and the word "science" means knowledge—peripheral knowledge.Knowledge is independent of the existence of the center, and when you think that the center is reached through the periphery, then you are missing it.

You have to be it, that is the only way to know it.About God we cannot know, you have to be God.To have being here is knowledge. To the ultimate, "about" and "about" means to miss, and to miss, you have to enter and be it. That's why Jesus said, "God is like love" -- not in love, but just like love. You cannot know anything about love, or can you?You can study and study, you can become a great scholar, but you have not touched, you have not penetrated.Love can be understood only when you become a lover. Not only that: love is realized only when you become love, and even the lover disappears, because the lover is also external. Two people in love are absent, they are not there, only love exists, the rhythm of love exists. There may be the poles of rhythm, but they are not there, something beyond has come into being, they have disappeared.

When you are empty, love is there; when you are full, knowledge is there.Knowledge belongs to the ego, and the ego can never penetrate the center, it is the periphery. The periphery can only know the periphery. You cannot know certain central things through the ego.The ego can learn, the ego can make you a great scholar, maybe a religious scholar, a learned man.You can know all the Vedas, all the Upanishads, all the Bibles and the Koran, and still you know nothing - because it is not knowledge from outside, only when you enter into it, and Know it when you become it. Nun Chiyono studied for many years...

She may have learned for many lifetimes, you have learned for many lifetimes, you have been going round and round, but when someone goes round, a very great illusion is created: you feel that you are making progress, that you are always Feeling that you are going...but still not going anywhere because you are going in circles and you keep repeating, that's why Hindus call this world samsara.Samsara means a wheel, a circle. You go on, on, and on, and never get anywhere, yet you always feel like you're getting to, "Now I'm closer to the goal because I've come all the way." You take a big detour Try circles, you can never see that it is a circle, because you only know part of it, so it is always one way, one way, and that's what happens in your many lifetimes.

Chiyono studied and studied and still failed to become enlightened -- not because enlightenment is difficult, but because when you learn enlightenment you miss it, you go astray. It is as if someone is trying to enter a room through a wall. It is not that entering the room is difficult, but you have to enter the room through the door.If you're trying to get in through the walls and it looks difficult and almost impossible, that's not right, and that's where you're going astray. Many, many people, whenever they start their journey, they start researching, learning, going through knowledge, information, philosophy, systems, theories, they start with "about", so they are knocking on that wall.

Jesus said, "Knock at the door, and the door will be opened to you." But remember, it is a door...don't keep knocking on the wall, otherwise, no door will open to you.And in fact, when you knock, when you actually approach the door, you will find that the door is always open, it is always already waiting for you.A door is a waiting, a door is a welcome, a door is a treat, it's already waiting for you and you're knocking on the wall. What are walls? When you start going through knowledge instead of being, you are knocking on the wall. Become, become (become, be)!Don't collect information, if you want to know love then be a lover; if you want to know God then meditate; if you want to go into infinity then pray.Just be!Don't know about prayer, don't try to accumulate what others have said about it.Learning will not help, on the contrary, unlearning will help.Ditch all you know. Then you will understand, throw away all the information and all the scriptures, forget all the Bible and the Gita, they are barriers, they are walls, if you keep knocking on that wall - then the door will never open because there There are no doors and people are knocking on the Vedas, knocking on the Bible, but no doors are going to open, they keep learning and learning and yet they keep missing, like Nun Chiyono: she studied for many years , but still not enlightened.

What is enlightenment? It is becoming aware of who you are.It has nothing to do with the outside world, it has nothing to do with what other people say, what other people say is irrelevant, you are there! Why seek advice from the "Bible" and "Gita Sutra"?Close your eyes and you are in your infinite glory, close your eyes and the door is open, because you are there, you don't need to ask anyone, you ask... then you will miss. This kind of asking means that you think you are somewhere else, this kind of asking means that you are looking for a map, and for the inner world, there is no map, no need, because you are not moving towards an unknown goal.

In fact, you are not moving at all, you are there, you are the end; you are not a seeker, you are an enlightened one.Because, what is enlightenment? One state - when you seek outside - is not enlightened; the other state - when you seek within - is enlightened. So the only difference is a difference of focus, if you focus outside you are not enlightened; if you focus inside you are enlightened, because the only problem is a turning. Christianity has a beautiful word "conversion" but they use it in a horrible way, conversion doesn't mean turning a Hindu into a Christian or a Christian into an Indian Christians; transformation means a turn, transformation means a shift of the source, turning inward, and you change. There are two directions in which your consciousness flows: outward or inward. These are the two possible flows of your consciousness, outward, it can flow through many, many lives - it will never reach the end, because this end is the source, the end is not in front, it is in the back, the end is not Where you are going to arrive, the end is always where you have left. The source is the end. This must be understood very deeply. If you can return to the original point where you started, then you have reached the end.

Enlightenment is going to the source, and the source is inside you, where life is flowing, vibrating, hitting the inner you, why ask someone else for advice? To learn means to teach others, to teach others, to teach about yourself? This is stupidity of the highest order, this is the utter absurdity -- ask others, ask about yourself, that's what learning means: to seek the answer, and you are the answer! Chiyono studied for many, many years, but still could not achieve enlightenment. This is natural and obvious, and there is nothing wrong with it. She is looking and learning from the outside. Another thing to remember: your existence is life, scriptures are lifeless, scriptures are necessarily dead, scriptures are corpses, and you ask the dead for your life, it is impossible!Krishna will not help much with this, neither will Jesus -- unless you become Krishna and Jesus, the dead cannot answer the life. But if you think you will find the answer, you will be more and more burdened with the answer, which will remain unknown. This often happens to a man who is learning, a thinker, a philosopher, who is constantly burdened by his own efforts - from words to words to words - and gets lost, while the answer remains There, only an inward turn is required. No, no one will answer you, don't go to anyone, go to yourself!Whenever you go to a guru, all he can do is to help you reach yourself, that's everything. No master will give you the answer, no master will give you the key, the master can only help you look inside, and that is everything, the key is there, the treasure is there, everything is there. One night, she was carrying an old wooden bucket full of water. As she was walking, she saw the full moon reflected in the bucket. Suddenly, the bamboo bucket hoop broke, the bucket fell apart, and all the water ran out. The reflected moon disappears—Chiyono becomes enlightened. One evening she was carrying an old wooden barrel full of water. You're also carrying a very, very old, ancient bucket full of water, and that's your mind, full of thoughts, and you're holding this very old, almost rotten thing. The mind is always old, it is never new, it cannot be new, it is just that.Because the mind is memory, how can memory be new?The mind is what is known, how can what is known be new?The mind is the past, how can the past be new?Look into your mind: it is full of old, dead, and by the time you know it, it has passed; it is not here and now, it has entered the world of death. So the mind itself is old, and that's why nothing original happens through the mind. The mind cannot be original, the mind can only be repetitive, so the mind goes on repeating, it will repeat in thousands of ways, it may repeat in new words, but the thing remains the same.It is impossible for the mind to know, it is impossible to encounter something fresh, young, new.Whenever you encounter something new, young, new, the mind has to be put aside, because only then your eyes are not clouded by the past, not clouded by the dust of the past, then your Only the mirror can reflect the here and now. All that is new comes out of consciousness, not out of the mind, which is your very inner source, and the mind is the dust that has gathered from your many journeys. It is as if you have never bathed and you have been traveling constantly and your body is dirty and dusty and you have never bathed and your mind has never bathed and you are attached to it and it is completely dirty .The whole method of meditation is nothing but a way of cleaning the mind, taking a bath, an inner bath, so that the dust can be washed away, the deep consciousness can come to the surface, and only then can we encounter reality. The truth is: you are there, but the encounter is not there, because between you and reality is the mind.Whatever you see you see through the mind, whatever you hear you hear through the mind -- and then you are almost deaf, almost blind.Jesus kept saying to his disciples, "If you have ears to hear, hear me! If you have eyes to see, see!" All their eyes are like you, and all their ears are like you, but Jesus knows, as I know, you are deaf, you are blind. Whenever you listen through the mind you are not listening, because the mind is translating, the mind is coloring, the mind itself is transforming, confusing.Anything you touch is now old, the mind has decorated it, the mind has given it the meaning of the mind, annotated it, the mind has explained it. That's why unless you become a real listener... a real listener means listening without the mind, a real seer means seeing without the mind, he doesn't comment, judge, blame, judge, say yes or no.When I talk to you I can even see your mind saying yes or no, even an invisible nod I can see that you may not know; sometimes you say yes - the mind has commented , sometimes you say "no" -- the mind has also commented, the mind has participated and is evaluating, and then you have missed. Just listen, don't judge, and suddenly you will become aware that the mind is a burden to the whole. It is old - a thing remembered - it can never be new, so don't think you have an original mind.No mind is original, all minds are stale, repetitive. That's why the mind is always fond of repetition, always against the new.Because the mind has created society, which is always against the new; the mind has created the country, civilization, morality, which are all against the new.Whatever the mind creates is always against the new, and you will not find anything more traditional than the mind. It is impossible to revolutionize with the mind, so if you revolutionize with the mind then don't deceive yourself. ... the mind is the most orthodox element in the world, the most submissive. So whatever the mind creates can never be new, it is always old, always firmly opposed to the new.It is always reactionary, and that is why there is no other revolution in the world than the religious one, no other revolution is possible.Only religion can be revolutionary, because religion is hitting that source, throwing out the mind, the old bucket. Then, suddenly, everything is new because the mind has made everything old through its notes.Suddenly you are a child again, your eyes are fresh and young, you don't see things with knowledge, learning; suddenly the tree has a newness, the grass changes -- it is no longer dark, it was alive; and suddenly the song of the little bird was quite different. That's what happens to a lot of people through drugs, that's why Aldous Hasley became so addicted to drugs, that's why all the new generations in the world are so attracted to drugs, because of drugs To be able to chemically put the mind aside for a while or longer. If you look at the world again, the colors around you are simply amazing, you have never seen such colors before! The ordinary flower becomes the whole being in all its miraculous splendor, and the ordinary leaf becomes so profound that the whole truth is revealed through it, and everything and everything changes at once.Drugs don't change the world, drugs just chemically set your mind aside. But you become addicted to the drug -- so the mind absorbs the drug, and at first, the first time, you can chemically trick the mind once, or two, or three times, and gradually the mind becomes used to the drug, and the mind again Becoming the master, the initial shock is gone, it becomes addicted to the drug, then it demands, and now the demand comes from the mind, and now, gradually, even the chemical way cannot throw the mind aside. It is still there, you will be addicted, the tree will be old again, the colors will not shine like that again, things will be dull again, the drug has killed you, it does not kill the mind. All that drugs can give you is electrotherapy, which is a chemical shock to the whole body, in which the old balance is upset, a gap is created, and through the gap you can see, but this cannot be practiced, you Drugs cannot be used, and soon it becomes part of the mind, the mind takes over, and then everything is the same again.Only meditation kills the mind -- nothing else.Meditation is the suicide of the mind, the mind commits suicide. Without any chemicals, without any physical means, if you can put your mind aside, you become a master. When you are the master, everything is new, it has always been like this, from the very beginning to the end, everything is new, young, fresh, death has never happened in this world, it is eternal life. One night she was carrying an old bucket full of water...and you are also carrying an old bucket full of water, the mind is the old bucket, the thoughts are the water, and because you value ideas so much, you don't throw them away. Drop this old bucket, because what happens to your mind then? You cling to them as if they are a very deep source of happiness, source of tranquility, as if by thinking you will have success in life and gain access to the treasure within life.Through thought, you never attained it, it was just a hopeless hope. What have you accomplished through thought?Nothing but anxiety, nervousness, but you are still clinging to sometime in the future, hoping to get the truth through your thoughts, so far this has not happened, and it will never happen, because truth is not of thought thing, it's there! You just look, you don't need to think, if it is not there, if you grope in the dark, thought is necessary, but in existence there is no darkness, existence is completely bright, you don't need to grope, you don't have to close your eyes Fumble, but you think, "If I leave fumbling, I will be lost." Thought is fumbling. Meditation is opening eyes, meditation is seeing, that's why in India it is called darshan, darshan means looking - seeing, not thinking, it is seeing that transforms, but You carry your thoughts in an old barrel, and you are constantly mending the barrel, worrying about it: if it breaks, what will happen to your worthwhile thoughts? And they have no value. One day, do this little experiment: close your door, sit in your room, and start writing your thoughts—whatever comes to your head, don't change them, because you won't Show this piece of paper to anybody, keep writing for ten minutes, then look at them, this is your mind, if you look at them, you will think it is the work of a madman, if you put this Show the piece of paper to your closest friend and he will look at you and think: Are you crazy? He'll be like you too, only we've been hiding madness, we all have faces, and behind those faces we're all mad. Why do you take this idea so seriously? You have become addicted to thought, it is a drug, it is chemical, well remember, thought is chemical, it is a drug, whenever you start thinking, you are in a hypnotic state , that's why you have become addicted -- like opium, you can forget the world, all the worries, all the responsibilities, you just start a way of distinguishing yourself from the world inside yourself: dreams, thoughts. Those who have been studying the science of sleep say that sleep requires dreaming.Because in a dream you can drop your madness, the whole night is a catharsis, then in the morning you can act wisely, and all day you can act in a wise way, because the whole night is a catharsis act in a crazy way. Scientists say that if you are deprived of dreaming and sleeping for several days, then you will go crazy, because there is no catharsis at that time and place, and the madness will explode, you will have a seizure. You dream at night - that's a catharsis, you think during the day - that's also a catharsis, it helps you sleep, it's a drug. You don't have to worry about what's going on, you just close yourself in your inner thoughts, you are very familiar with them, you feel very comfortable and comfortable, this is your own home, no matter how dirty and old, but you are already in Lived in it for so long that you get used to it, you get used to your prison. This will be true for prisoners: if they are in prison for a long time, they will become afraid of getting out, they will become afraid of freedom, and that is the fear of freedom, because it will bring new responsibilities. There's nothing like getting out of your head - it's total freedom. Hinduism calls it "liberation" (moksha), complete freedom.Nothing compares to it, all prisons are smashed. When you are just under the infinite sky, fear takes hold of you: you want to go back to your home, your comfortable home, with walls, with fences, where infinity is not there, and you will not be afraid. Infinity always looks like death. You are used to the finite, the sharp lines, the definite divisions. That's why you can't drop the thought, you can't drop the bucket, even, you keep making the bucket more and more It grows bigger and bigger, it's like your stomach: the more you fill it with thoughts, it keeps expanding, and if you eat too much, the stomach may burst, but the mind doesn't. An ordinary mind can contain all the libraries in the world. There are 170 million brain cells in your tiny head, and each cell can carry at least one million kinds of information. The development of computers cannot match Your mind, by comparison, can hold the whole world in your tiny head, and it's constantly expanding. Chiyono studied and studied, she filled the old bucket with more and more water, she didn't get enlightened, but one night, she was carrying the old bucket full of water, while she was walking, she saw the reflection The full moon in the barrel, that full moon is high in heaven, and in the water, in the barrel, it is the shadow, and she is looking at it. That's what happens to everybody, it's not a story, it's not an anecdote, it's a fact - it's happening to you.You never see the full moon, you don't see it, you always see the moon reflected in your water which is in your mind, that's why Hinduism - actually Shankara - used to say : All you know is maya, illusion, it is like the moon you see in the water, a projection, not the real moon, but you think it is the moon. Whatever you see, you see by reflection, your eyes reflect, your eyes are like mirrors, your ears reflect - all your senses are just mirrors, they reflect. And the greatest of all mirrors is your mind, it reflects, it not only reflects, it comments, it annotates, it explains the reflections one by one at the same time, it distorts. Have you ever seen a distorting mirror? No need to look anywhere, there's a distorting mirror inside of you - it distorts everything, so far, whatever you know about the moon, that's not the real moon in the sky, because in this old bucket full of water How can you see the real moon? You keep looking at that projection, and the projection is illusory, that is the meaning of illusion, illusion, all you know is illusion, it is appearance, not reality.Reality comes only when the bucket breaks - when the water comes out and the projection disappears. Suddenly, the bamboo bucket hoop broke, and the bucket fell apart. This happens suddenly, like an accident, try to understand this phenomenon: Enlightenment is always like an accident, because it cannot be predicted, because you cannot grasp it, you cannot arrange it so that it happens; you cannot direct it. It happens, if you can cause it to happen, then it doesn't go beyond the mind, if you can hold it, make it happen, it's just a trick of the mind, many people try to hold it, they do this That, creates the cause for enlightenment to happen, but it is not a causal thing; if you can make it happen, it is not as great as you; if you can make it happen, it is completely useless.Enlightenment happens, it cannot be caused, it is not a continuum of your mind, it is a discontinuous abyss, suddenly you are not there and it is there, how can you grasp it?If you can hold it, you will be there. When Gautam Siddhartha became enlightened and became Buddha, was he still the same person as before? No!If the same person as before became enlightened... that's impossible, the continuum is interrupted, the original person disappears, and it's a completely new person: Gautama Siddhartha, the one who left The prince of his palace, his wife and children is not there, the ego is not there, the mind is not there, the old man is dead - the old barrel has been broken, now this is totally new, The old one doesn't exist anymore! That's why we gave him a new name: we called him Buddha. We drop the old name, because the old name belongs to another character, to some other person, and the old name no longer belongs to this person. It is a discontinuous phenomenon, it is not continuous, because if it were continuous, it would at most modify the past, it could not be entirely new, because the past would carry on, changing a little here or there, modifying a little , paint it a little bit, put a little light on it, but the old one will go on, it might be better, but it still keeps the old one. Enlightenment seems like an accident, but don't get me wrong!Because when I say enlightenment is like an accident, I'm not saying don't do anything about it!It doesn't mean that, if you don't do anything about it, accidents don't happen, accidents happen because those people have done a lot for it, it doesn't happen because they are doing it, that's the problem because They are doing it and it will not happen, they are not doing it and it will never happen, that doing is not what makes it happen, that doing is just creating an accident-prone situation within them, that's all! All your meditations will just create an unexpected situation -- that's all. That's why not even Buddha can predict when your enlightenment will happen.People come to visit me and ask me, and I tell them, "Soon." It doesn't mean anything, "Soon" may be the next moment, "Soon" may be a lifetime away, because of an accident The event cannot be predicted, and if it could be predicted, it is not an accident at all, but a continuation. But don't stop trying!Don't think that if it's going to happen, it will happen, then it won't happen again, you have to prepare for it, for the unexpected, for the unknown -- prepare, wait, meet.In addition, unexpected events may come or be missed. You may be asleep; the unknown may knock at the door and you may not hear it, or you may be talking to someone, or you may interpret it as a gust of wind knocking at the door; perhaps you will think of so many things - everyone Both are great thinkers. Be prepared for the unexpected! And remember: everything you do is not a reason for enlightenment, all you do is to create a situation within you, everything you do is not a reason, but an invitation, the difference is huge, because If you think it's a reason, then you start asking, if you think it's a reason, then you say, "Why isn't it happening? Why hasn't it happened to me until now?" It creates an inner tension, and the tension is there... then it cannot happen, you have to be bumped into by chance, you should wait, but don't be anxious -- relax, you should invite it, but don't be sure that the guest will come. In the end it's up to the guest, not you, but if you don't invite the guest, he won't come, that's for sure; with your invitation, you can't be sure he will come, but without your invitation He will definitely not come. With your invitation, he may come, maybe he will come, so wait at the door, but don't be anxious, don't be too sure. Affirmation is mental, waiting is conscious, mind is superficial, all mental affirmations are superficial, it can come at any time, whenever you are ready to see, to see, you will know it is always It's happening on the side, you're not looking at it, you don't see the corner. I have heard: Once Mulla Nasruddin was resting on a chair and his wife was looking at the street and he was looking at the wall and they were sitting back to back as usual Couples sit like this. Suddenly the wife said, "Look, Nasruddin! The richest man in the town is dead, and many people are dying for him." Nasruddin said, "What a misfortune! I no longer face it!" "Unlucky! I don't face it anymore." He doesn't look - just turns his head...but that's your case, unlucky! You don't look where the accident is passing, the unknown is passing. All meditations will help you to face the unknown, to the unhabitual, to see the stranger, they will make you more open, more open to the unexpected, but you cannot cause it. Even if you are ready, you have to wait, you cannot force it, you cannot bring it to you, if you can force it, then religion will be just like science, that is the basic difference between science and religion, science can Force things because it can by cause, not by invitation. Science can make anything because it finds the cause. Once the cause is known, then anything can be grasped.Science knows that if you heat water to 100 degrees, it will evaporate - and that's why.You can be sure that once you get to a hundred degrees, the water starts to evaporate, you can heat water and force it to evaporate, you can mix oxygen and hydrogen and force them to become water, you know why, science always tries to understand why. Religions are different, not at all.Religion can never be turned into a scientific idea.Because it is looking for the uncaused, it is looking for that discontinuity, it is looking for an absolute transformation.A relative transformation has a cause, a partial transformation has a cause, but what about the "absolute"?The old is gone, everything is new! --There must be a gap, there must be no continuity, there must be a jump! So, suddenly the old disappears from existence and the new enters into existence, and they are not connected -- there is a gap in between.Gautama Siddhartha just disappears, Buddha appears -- there is a gap. This gap has to be remembered, that's why I say enlightenment is like an accident, but you have to keep working for it.That's a paradox, listen to me, don't get lazy, listen to me, just don't sleep, listen to me, don't start thinking and make up a reason, "If it's an accident and we can't cause it, then why要静心?
