Chapter 7 Chapter 6 A Symphony for Seabirds

when the shoe fits 奥修 13435Words 2018-03-20
There is not just one humanity—there are many. Each individual is a universe in itself, and you cannot make any general rules. All generalizations are false. This must be remembered deeply, because on this path, at any time, you may start to follow the rules, and once you become a victim of the rules, you will never know who you are. You can know yourself only in total freedom -- the rule is the prison. They are prisons, because no one else can make rules for you; he may have discovered the truth through them, but they are for him.Human nature is different - they help him, but they don't necessarily help you; on the contrary, they will hinder you.So let comprehension be the only criterion.

Learn, grow with insight, but don't play by the rules.Rules are dead, understanding is alive; rules will become a kind of imprisonment, understanding will give you the boundless sky.Everyone is burdened with rules, and every religion becomes just a canon.Because of Christ, because of Buddha, their life became a rule for everyone to follow. But no one else is Shakyamuni; no one else is Jesus Christ. So at most you can be a modified carbon copy, but you will never be your true self.If you follow Jesus too much, you will be a Christian but never a Christ, that is the danger. It is not worth missing out on Christ in order to be a Christian. You can be Christ, but Christ cannot be your rule, only your own understanding will be the law.

Jesus doesn't follow anyone. He had a master, John the Baptist, but he never obeyed any rules. He feels the Master, he is with the Master, he sees the flame of the Master, he absorbs the Master, he is baptized by the Master, but he never obeys any rules.John's other followers opposed Jesus. They say, "This man has betrayed you. He has his own way, he does not strictly follow the rules." No enlightened person will follow the rules strictly.Only the dead can strictly follow the canon, because there is no canon for you, you are your own canon.Understand, learn from others, just discover your own code, but remember never to impose code on anyone else - it is violence.Your so-called Mahatmas always impose codes on others because by codes they kill and destroy, they enjoy violence.Their violence is very subtle, they don't kill you directly, they kill you very indirectly. If someone directly attacks you, you will defend yourself. When someone attacks you indirectly - under the guise of being for yourself - you become a complete victim, and you cannot even defend yourself.

Many masters are just violent, but their violence is subtle. So whenever you approach someone who wants to impose his code on your life, wants to give you a fixed frame, wants to give you a window through which you can see the truth, avoid him.dangerous.A real master will not give you a window into the truth, he will take you under the sky.He will not give you a pattern to live, he will just give you the feeling, the understanding, which will help you to function; the understanding is free, your own. Remember... because you don't want to understand, because understanding is difficult and difficult, because understanding requires courage, understanding requires transformation, otherwise you are a victim of those who want to give you guidelines. But guidelines are substitutes, and you can get them easily. You could easily turn your life into a disciplined one, but it would be false stuff. You may act, you may pretend, but it's not real.I want to tell you a story about Judaism.Christ must have heard of it because it was older than Christ and everyone knew the story back then.He must have heard the story from his mother, Mary, or from his father, Joseph. The story is beautiful and you've probably heard it too.

The story goes like this, a so-called wise man is almost a rabbinical jurist... I say almost because although he is a rabbinical jurist, it is difficult to be a real rabbinical jurist. To be a true rabbi means you are enlightened. In fact he was only a priest, and he knew nothing. But people knew him, he was a smart guy... coming home from a nearby village. As he was passing by, he saw a man with a beautiful bird.He bought the bird and started thinking: This bird is so beautiful, I'm going to eat it when I get home.Suddenly the bird said, "Don't think like that!" The priest was startled, and he said, "What, I heard you?" The bird said, "Yes, I am not an ordinary bird. I am also almost a legal expert in the world. I can give you three pieces of advice, if you promise to set me free." The jurist said to himself: "This bird can talk, it must be learned ."

That's what we decided - if anyone can talk, he must be wise!It is so easy to speak, it is very difficult to be wise -- they have nothing to do with each other. You can talk without being wise, you can be wise without speaking, it doesn't matter. But for us, a man who speaks becomes a wise man. The jurist said, "Okay, you give me 3 pieces of advice and I'll let you go." The bird said, "The first piece of advice—never believe a lie, no matter who says it. He may be a great man, famous all over the world , has prestige, power, and authority—but if he's talking nonsense don't believe it." The priest said, "Yes!" The bird said, "This is my second piece of advice—whatever you do, never try Impossible, because then you will fail. So always know your limitations: a man who knows his limits is wise, a man who tries to go beyond them is a fool." The jurist nodded and said, "Yes!" The bird said: "This is my third piece of advice - if you do something good, don't repent, only if you do something bad."

The advice was subtle and beautiful, so the bird was released. The jurist started walking home happily, thinking to himself: Good material for a sermon, and when I speak at the assembly next week, I'll give these 3 pieces of advice.I will write them on the wall of my room, I will write them on my desk so I can remember them. These 3 principles can change a person. Just then, suddenly, he saw the bird sitting on a tree, and the bird started laughing out loud, and the jurist said, "What's the matter?" The bird said, "You fool, I have a Very precious diamond, if you kill me, you will become the richest person in the world." The jurist regrets in his heart: I am so stupid. What did I do, I believed this bird.

He threw away the books he was carrying and started climbing the tree.He is an old man who has never climbed a tree in his life. The higher he climbed, the bird flew to another, higher branch. At last the bird climbed to the top of the tree, and so did the old jurist—and then the bird flew away.Just as he was about to catch the bird, it flew away.He stumbled and fell from a tree, bleeding out, his legs were broken, and he was near death. The bird came to a lower branch and said, "Look, first you believed me, how can a bird have precious diamonds in its stomach? You fool! Have you ever heard of this fallacy? Then You tried the impossible - you never climbed a tree. How can you catch a bird with your bare hands when it is free, you fool! You regret it in your heart, and feel wrong when you do a good thing What, you set a bird free! Now go home and write your guidelines, and go to the convention next week and spread them."

But that's what all missionaries do.What is lacking is understanding. They carry only guidelines -- and guidelines are a dead thing.Understanding has no weight, you don't have to carry it -- it carries you, it becomes your wings. It is not heavy at all, you don't even have to memorize it, if you realize something you don't have to memorize it, it becomes your blood, your skeleton, it is you.Whatever you do will be done through that understanding; it is an unconscious phenomenon. Principles are conscious, comprehension is unconscious, and Zhuangzi always tends to be unconscious. The whole tradition of Tao is inclined toward the unconscious.Don't memorize rules, just try to understand things. If you impose rules on yourself, you will not become wise, you will remain ignorant within, just a decoration for ignorance.Jesus said: I look at you, and I see you as a tomb, whitewashed—dead on the inside, but a whitewashed wall on the outside. It may look beautiful and clean, and all your disciplines can give you an outer cleanliness, but inside you are still the same fool you were.Remember, only fools follow the rules; a wise man tries to understand and forget the rules.A wise man acts freely; a man with rules cannot act, he must always follow the rules.Life is changing every moment -- it is changing all the time, it does not wait for you and your criteria.Every moment is new, if the code is old, you will always miss your steps, you will always be out of place, and whenever there is a man who follows the code, he will be out of place everywhere.Because life is fluid and you stick to the rules.

As I see within you, you all stick to the rules. In your childhood you were given guidelines and you were fixed there. You have never moved since then. You may be jogging in place but you are not moving. You may get old - 70 - but deep down you're still fixed. How all the striving towards enlightenment is no longer fixed, how to run, how to become a flow again instead of frozen.Don't be like ice - frozen; but become like water, like a river - flowing. The code never allows you to do this.Remember, life is always renewing itself, and only understanding can correspond to it. Mulla Nasrudin always used negative words, so I told him: be positive. Why look at life in such a negative light? Then you'll find thorns instead of flowers. So he said, "Okay, now I'm going to make a rule to stay positive."

The next day his wife went shopping at the market and she asked him to babysit the children. When she came home she immediately felt that something was wrong. The whole house is sad, the children are not running here and there - there is no sound. She became worried. Then she saw Nasruddin sitting by the door and instantly she felt something really happened. She was scared and said: "Nasrudin, don't tell me bad news, just tell me good news." Kids - 6 of them didn't fall under the car!" That's how he became positive. You can change the words, but deep down you remain the same. You can change behavior, but deep down you remain the same. The real thing is how to change your being - not your actions, not your words, not your clothes - how to change your being.A disciplined man changes himself in the circle, an enlightened man changes himself, and the circle changes itself. When the center changes, the circumference automatically changes, it must change, but when the circumference changes, the center does not necessarily change with it. What can rules do?They can tell you what to do and what not to do, but they can't change you, they can only change your behavior, and the behavior is not you.Actions come from you, but you are deeper than your actions.Rules can change your behavior—behavior means how you relate to other people—but they cannot change you.Only when you are completely alone, you are your being, not in relationship. Zhuangzi said that human nature is different. A guy came to me, and he was doing a handstand — a yoga pose that uses his headstand, headstand pose.It is written in the book that it is very beneficial because it is very beneficial and he has been doing this pose for a long time. But now he was in such a turmoil inside that he was almost going crazy. So he asked me what went wrong. He's a man of the rules. He followed Patanjali word for word: diet, bedtime, exactly as they should. He's a very conformist guy.So he couldn't figure out what went wrong.I asked him to tell me his full schedule. He does handstands for 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the evening. He waited, always praying for the moment of enlightenment. It didn't come.Instead, he was going crazy, he was crazy. Handstands work for some people. The duller the person, the better it suits him.For a wise man, it is dangerous. The higher the intelligence, the more dangerous.Because it's not just a pose, it changes the mysterious structure of your entire body. Humans have acquired intelligence, but animals have not, why?Because people stand on two legs. That's everything. If a child keeps walking on all fours, he can never be a human being, he can never acquire that intelligence. When your spine is parallel to the earth, the blood flows evenly throughout the body; it flows to the legs in the same amount as to the head. Then the mind cannot generate subtle nerves -- it cannot generate a subtle nervous system. The inner structure of your brain is subtle, very subtle, the most subtle thing in the world. Your head weighs only 1.5 kilograms.Even Einstein's head, the head of a great genius, weighs only 1.5 kilograms. There are 70 million cells in this tiny skull. Each cell can carry millions of pieces of information.Cells are so delicate that if the blood flows too fast the cells will die.The blood doesn't have to flow too much into the head, or it would overwhelm the delicate internal structures. So if a person is stupid, dull, imbecile, handstand is the best, because it will not do any harm, he will feel very good.It won't hurt, he'll feel great because the blood will flood his head, and when the tide goes out, everything will relax. He will feel great, just like you feel great when you take a shower. But if you're smart, then it's dangerous. You will be stuck and your subtle inner structure will be destroyed. You may feel perfectly fine physically, but mentally it will prove destructive. So if a very intelligent person does it, he may become crazy; if a not intelligent person does it, he may become healthier. Then there is the question of time, how much?To do it for a few seconds, even for a wise man may be good, just a few seconds, just a tide and then back: nothing is destroyed, everything in the mind just becomes more alive. But that has to be decided by a master, not by you -- you cannot do it by books.Only a living master can decide that a few seconds is enough for you, otherwise you will be in danger. But human thoughts are childish. If your watch breaks, the first inclination is to open it up to see what's wrong and do something about it.Don't do anything, or more things will go wrong.Because a watch is an ingenious mechanism that only those who understand it can open it.You can't fix it; you can mess it up so badly that it's almost impossible to fix it.A watch is nothing—a watch is nothing to the brain.Don't do anything by books; books won't help. You need someone who can see through your mind, through the whole brain system, who can feel how your brain works inside; only he can decide for a few seconds to do it and whether it is good or not. This is just an example. Many people have been trying to do things with the help of books.Life is very complicated, books can only give you dead rules, if you follow them, then you are stepping into a dangerous area.It is better to do nothing than to do something wrong. It is better to be ordinary—to maintain an ordinary life.If you can't find a living master, if you can't trust someone, then don't do it.At least you will remain healthy, otherwise, you will become abnormal. Your bioenergetic inner system is very complex - the whole universe is nothing compared to it.The whole universe runs on a very simple route. Man is the most complicated being; that's why no lion goes mad and man is always on the verge of it.You can go crazy at almost any moment. This is such a complex phenomenon that one should approach it with great vigilance.Understanding is a must, not a rule.Through books, through scriptures, through rules, you can have knowledge, but not understanding.Everyone is different: men are different from women, each individual is different from the other. Not only that, you are different every day from the day before.Yesterday you were one person, today you are another person, and tomorrow you will be another person.A very, very deep understanding is necessary; rules are no substitute. Now we come to that proverb: A symphony for seabirds You can't put a lot of stuff into a pouch, nor can you, with a short rope, draw water from a deep well. But that's exactly what everyone's doing: trying to pack a ton of stuff into a pouch. You never cared about the bag or what your talents were.It starts with knowing your limitations and then thinking about your accomplishments. What is your talent?what can you do?What is your inherent talent? No one cares about it.If a person without a musical ear keeps trying to become a musician, his whole life will be wasted, because musicians are born, not made.A man without feeling keeps trying to be a poet or a painter. If a man without vision tries to be a painter, he will fail, because a painter has a different kind of eye -- almost a third eye. When you look at trees you see only one green, when a painter looks he sees thousands of greens, not one.Every tree has its own greenness. He feels colors; colors have an oscillation for him; the whole world is nothing but colors. Indians say the whole world is a sound. Just like that, those who wrote the Upanishads were poets, musicians, and they had ears for sound. Then the whole universe becomes one sound -- omkar, anahata.A man who never loved music keeps trying to say the spell aum, nothing happens. He keeps repeating it inwardly - nothing happens. He goes to this or that master, never thinking about his own abilities. ① "Upanishads": one of the ancient philosophical classics of Brahmanism. ——Editor's note. If you have musical ears, if you have a heart that can understand music - not only understand but feel - then mantras will help.Because then you can become a person with an inner voice, and you can take that voice into more and more subtle levels. Then comes the moment when all sound stops and only the sound of the universe remains. That's Om.That's why Indians say that the whole world is made of sound. That's not true, that's not an absolute truth, it's the musician's truth. Remember, there is no absolute truth, each truth is individual - this is your truth. There is no truth like the objective world.Your truth may not be my truth, and my truth may not be your truth, because truth is not objective.I was there, participated in it, my truth means me - your truth means you. When Buddha attained, when Jesus or Zhuangzi attained, they attained the same source of the universe, but their deduction is different. Buddha was not a musician at all, he found no sound, he was not a painter, he found no color. He was a very silent man, and silence was his music. That's why he found a formless void - nothingness. That is his truth. He has come to the same source, the source is one, but the people who come are different, they watch, watch, feel in different ways. That's why there are so many philosophies, so many religions. When Mira reaches the same source she starts dancing. You cannot imagine Buddha dancing, you cannot imagine Christ dancing!Mira started dancing - she reached the love of her heart.A woman's heart, the feeling of love - the source becomes the love of the heart, she touches her lover. The source is the same, the ultimate truth is the same, but the moment someone utters it, it is different.Remember, no one's truth can be yours; you must reveal it. The first is to remember your abilities, but you are so confused that you cannot feel what your abilities are. Therefore, you need someone who can feel your pulse with his hand, someone who can feel what your abilities are.You may have been making a lot of effort in the wrong direction, but the result will be nothing. You can reach only in a certain way; you can reach only through you. You can't put a lot of stuff into a pouch, nor can you, with a short rope, draw water from a deep well. Know your abilities - that's the first thing. If you understand your capabilities correctly, the first step has been taken, and the final one is not too far away.If the start is wrong, then you may spend your life walking and walking, and you will not get anywhere. Haven't you heard how a sea bird came to the shore and lived outside the city of Lu? A beautiful fable—a bird came from the sea and landed outside the city of Lu State, a beautiful bird. The king ordered a grand reception—because the king is the king, he thought that the king of the bird kingdom came, just like other princes must receive, this beautiful bird must also be received according to the same etiquette. But how to host a bird? The king has his own way. The king ordered a grand reception, offered wine to the seabird in the sacred temple, summoned musicians to play "Jiu Shao" music, and killed a cow for it to eat.Confused by the symphony, the unhappy seabird dies in despair. Although everything is done to receive guests, no one cares who the guests are.The guest is received according to the wishes of the host, not the guests, and that kills the poor bird. Many of you died because of the master. No one follows you.A child is born and the parents start thinking about what to make him, even before he is born they start thinking about it. I used to live with a friend who was a professor at a university and his wife was also a professor, both very intelligent people with gold medals, diplomas and PhDs.I saw their daughter—they only had one daughter—playing the piano while wiping away tears and crying.I asked her mother, "What's the matter?" Mother said, "I always wanted to be a pianist, but my parents didn't allow it. It won't happen to my daughter again—she has to become a musician. Because the parents No, I've been through so much pain and they forced me to be a professor. I'm not going to force my daughter to be a professor, she's going to be a musician!" And the daughter is wiping tears and crying! You are so confused because of other people: your mother wants you to do this, your father wants you to do something else. And that's often the case, because they never agree, father and mother, they never agree. Mulla Nasrudin's son told me, "I want to be a doctor, but my mother insists that I have to be an engineer. What should I do?" I said, "You do one thing. You spread rumors, Say your father wants you to be an engineer." Now he's a doctor. They are always in opposition, father and mother, their opposition goes deep inside you, it becomes an inner conflict.Your father and mother may be dead, no longer in this world, but they exist in your unconscious - still fighting. They will never give you peace.Whatever you do, your father says do it, and your mother says don't do it, the conflict inside you is your parents' conflict. Then there are uncles, siblings and many relatives. You are alone among so many well-wishers who all want you to be something according to their will. They spoil you, and then your whole life becomes a confusion -- you don't know what you want to be, you don't know where you're going, you don't know what you're doing and why you're doing it.So you feel pain.If you cannot be a natural being, if you cannot grow with your being, suffering comes. It happened to the seabird, it happened to all the islands—you are all seabirds. One day you were in the country of Lu, landed in a womb, you were received in magnificence, and the astrologer decided what should be done.Musicians welcome you with their music, parents welcome you with their love. And all of them just drive you crazy and nothing else. A wise man does not receive you according to his wishes, he receives you according to your wishes. The seabird was killed by the musicians and the wonderful symphony.Everything the king does is right, and that is how guests must be received. How should you treat the bird?Treat yourself like you are, or like a bird? Always give the other the opportunity to be himself -- that is understanding, that is love.Don't impose yourself on others.Your wishes may be good, but the results will be bad.A good wish is not enough by itself, it can become harmful. The real point is not good intentions. The real point is to give the other person the freedom to be him or herself. Let your wife be herself; let your husband be himself; let your child be himself—don't force it. We are all seabirds, we don't know each other, we are strangers.Nobody knows who you are.To the greatest extent, all we can do is help you become the person you will become. The future is unknowable; it cannot be forced. There is no way of knowing it, no astrologer can help, these are stupid ways.People rely on them because people are stupid.Astrologers live on because we always want to know the future so we can plan.Life cannot be planned, it is an unplanned tide -- and its unplanned is good.If it was planned, everything would be dead and dull.It is good that no one can predict the future, and it is good that the future remains unknowable, unpredictable, because there lurks the whole freedom. If the future becomes known, then there is no freedom, and then you will run like a predictable machine. But that's what we want, or, that's what we try to do. If you have a little understanding, give those around you the freedom to be themselves, and let no one interfere with your freedom.Don't make anyone your slave, and don't be anyone's slave. This is sannyas. This is what I mean by sannyas. It is a man's decision to enslave no one, and to be enslaved by no one; a man's determination to be utterly true to himself, and to go wherever this truth leads him. This is courage -- because it may lead you into insecurity, and you will be willing to be safer; then you will listen to others and their blessings, and then their symphony will kill you. They have killed you.Why do you obey others?Because you think they know better. I heard a kid ask his brother something. The youngest is 5 years old and the oldest is 10 years old.The younger one said to the older one, "Go to your mother and ask her permission, then we can go to the theater." Then the older one said, "But why don't you go?" The younger one said, "You know her It's been longer than me!" It's an old question, you listen to your mother because she's known the world longer than you.You listen to your father because he has known the world longer than you.But do you think that as long as they are here for a long time, people will be sensible?Do you think time gives understanding?Do you think old age is wisdom? Then go to the government office and look at the elders there, age may be wisdom in government but not in life. Life is not learned through time, it is learned through meditation. It is inward.Time is an external movement, and time is on a circle.A person can live 1000 years and still be stupid. In fact he will become more and more stupid as he grows up.If you have a seed of stupidity, within a thousand years you will become such a huge tree, and millions of stupid people will live under your tree.Whatever you have grows; nothing is static, everything is growing. So a stupid man becomes stupider, a wise man becomes wiser - but time has nothing to do with understanding. Understanding is not temporary, it is not more experience. It's not the amount of experience that makes you smart, it's the quality. If you bring the quality of awareness into it, one experience can give you more wisdom than you can get in several lifetimes.A man can make love to many women, thousands of women, thousands of times.Do you think he understands love? There are quantities! You ask Byron, you ask Don Juan, there are quantities.Don Juan kept the records, and they kept counting how many women they conquered. There are numbers, but do they understand love?A love can give you wisdom if you bring quality to it.Quality has to come with you. What is that quality? That quality is awareness. If you have made love to a woman only once, with all your being, with all your awareness, you will know what love is.Otherwise you go on and on and on and on, it becomes a repetition. Then you have to do anything, the wheel turns by itself, it becomes automatic.Wisdom is that thing that comes when you bring awareness into any experience, and the meeting of awareness and experience is wisdom.Experience plus awareness is wisdom. When experience plus more experience you get quantity, but not that -- the quality that will make you free and wise. Whenever a child is born, if the mother loves the child, if the father loves the child, they will not impose themselves on it, because at least they will know: they have failed. So why give this kid the same model? Why destroy another life? But look at that stupidity. They want their children to follow their way. They reach nowhere, they know deep down that they are empty, false, yet they force a child to go on the same road, and they end up at the same false. Why?Because the ego knows that "my children follow me" will feel good. You may not get anywhere, but it will give you a good feeling if your son follows you.As if you were done, the son follows you.If you are not satisfied with a son, you gather followers, disciples. There are many who are ready to fall into anyone's trap; because people are so imperfect, they are ready to follow anyone's advice. The problem is that they are incomplete because of the advice of others - they are always asking for it again and again.Thoughts are a nasty thing. You are so empty and false because you follow the advice of others; and then you look again for others to advise you. When will you realize that you are fundamentally missing out because you are not following your inner voice! So a master cannot give you rules. If a master gives you rules, clearly he is a false master.avoid him!A master can only give you understanding, teach you how to understand yourself -- then rules will come, but they will come out of your understanding. How should you treat the bird?Treat yourself like you are, or like a bird?Shouldn't it make its nest in deep woods, and fly over meadows and swamps?Shouldn't it swim in rivers and ponds, eat some eels, fly with other waterfowl, and roost among reeds? It's bad enough having seabirds surrounded by crowds and startled by their sounds! That's not enough! They killed it with the music! Everyone is killed by music. That music comes from good intentions, well-wishers, people who do good. The whole thing seemed so ridiculous and crazy. If you planted 1000 trees and only one flowered and 999 died, would anyone call you a gardener? Will anyone give you credit for that flowering tree? They'll say it must have escaped you to bloom because you killed 999.You can't take credit for this one, it must have escaped! It must have escaped your skill, your experience, your intellect. One out of millions becomes a Buddha and blossoms.what happened? Why do many trees have to live without flowers!Look at a tree, when it has no flowers the flowers never come. What sorrow befalls the tree.It can't laugh, it can't sing, it can't dance.Flowers need to dance.how can you danceEven if I say to you, "Dance!" how can you dance?Because dancing is an overflowing joy, such an overflowing that every cell in the body starts dancing and you become a dancing universe.but how can youEnergy is not flowing, no energy is coming. What can he say? ——Editor's note.
