Chapter 3 Basic Beliefs of a Buddhist Practitioner-3

Basic Beliefs of a Buddhist 南怀瑾 4192Words 2018-03-20
Let’s talk about asking the Buddha to turn the wheel of Dharma. The lamp of the world symbolizes the eyes of all living beings, good teachers and masters who give people wisdom and light. Their clear heart lamps illuminate the darkness of the world.A good teacher and helpful friend is the light of the world, so a wise and accomplished person can pass on the light of the heart of the Dharma so that it will not be extinct.I appeal to all the good teachers in the ten directions who can point out the way for all sentient beings, and pray that they will not enter Nirvana, maintain good health, live a long life, benefit more sentient beings, and live in the world to save people in the world. The light of the world does not necessarily teach Buddhism, as long as it is useful knowledge that can save the world and save people.

"The one who first achieved Bodhi" is the Buddha. He attained enlightenment under the bodhi tree. What is meant here is the last. The Buddha said in the "Diamond Sutra" that the enlightenment that he taught Bodhi to the Burning Buddha many eons ago is the same thing as the enlightenment that he experienced under the Bodhi tree in this life. Therefore, the "Avatamsaka Sutra" tells us: "At the beginning of the heart, you will become a righteous and enlightened person, so the person who first achieved Bodhi is a person who has become a Buddha and enlightened the Tao. Wonderful Dharma Wheel", I advise them not to enter Nirvana, not to leave the human realm, but to stay in the world and teach more sentient beings. Because good teachers follow the needs of sentient beings, sometimes it is not easy to meet sentient beings who are too stupid and obstinate. If sentient beings do not want to be educated, good teachers will also want to leave.

Therefore, the Bodhisattva must desperately urge all Buddhas and good teachers to live in this world and turn the wheel of Dharma for a long time, and then: (Students chant in the same way) This kind of persuasion is the practice of Samantabhadra, and it is the same for those who practice Samantabhadra. Therefore, Buddhas and virtuous teachers are tired of teaching and want to enter Nirvana. They all kneel in front of them and sincerely urge them, "I only wish to live in the world for a long time." I hope that he will live in the six realms forever, because once this physical body is lost, it will be very troublesome to come back. I try my best to ask the Buddha to live in the world and "benefit all sentient beings".

(Students chant in the same way) Those who practice Samantabhadra should dedicate to everyone, to all sentient beings, from the merits of respect, praise, offerings, etc., to the merits of persuading the Tathagata to live in the world and turn the Dharma wheel, as well as the merits of rejoicing, repenting, etc. All become Buddhas, this is a real practitioner. Is it pure or not pure when you sing and chant four or four lines like just now? (Students answer: clean) Don’t think that chanting is nothing, think it’s just a small practice, soft practice, if you have afflictions and pain in your heart today, stand or kneel in front of the Buddha, and sing the four lines of gatha reverently, If you want to cry or cry, you should cry and sing, all the roughness and karma in your heart will be sung out, which is equivalent to exhaling the old and absorbing the new in qigong practice, and it is easy to purify and present.

Now we are talking about Samantabhadra’s deeds and vows, which are part of the repeated verses. In fact, there are very detailed explanations in the long lines of the original scriptures, and these must be intensively read.To learn Buddhism and practice, you must think rightly, and don't just have daydreams, delusions, and fantasies about some worldly things all day long. Now let’s talk about "Following Buddhism", everyone sings this item again, when singing the scriptures, every word expresses the meaning of the Buddha, put all your body and mind into it, honestly go down to Alaya Go to the seeds of consciousness, be sincere and single-minded, this is what I have repeatedly emphasized.

(Students chant in the same way) These four verses can be understood by reading the text! ?What is the perfect practice of Samantabhadra?Have you read it in your mouth?Especially since you have resigned from your relatives and become a monk to practice Taoism, why did you come here?It is precisely to practice Samantabhadra's vast and perfect practice anytime and anywhere, starting from the three karma of body, speech and mind, and it can really be done.Everyone should memorize these ten main points of Buddhism at any time, integrate them into one's own heart, transform them into one's own behavior, and practice them earnestly. Why can't you quickly achieve the supreme enlightenment? !

Now we are going to talk about how to follow Buddhism. Aren’t you monks to learn Buddhism?Learning Buddhism is not about taking refuge, accepting precepts, or becoming a vegetarian, and that counts.Like my predestined relationship with Buddhism, I met a wise master at the first step, who gave me a copy of the "Vows of Samantabhadra" and asked me to go back and recite it carefully. I followed the teaching and recited it morning and evening. It soon melted into the incomparably great state of mind of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva. Now I also give you a copy, and I want you to read it carefully, but most of you just read the text casually. Has true repentance been made?

Has the Bodhi seed based on the vast deeds and vows of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva really been planted?Don't think that doing kung fu in the meditation hall, cultivating Qi channels, talking about a few mantras, and sometimes getting a little response is all right. As a practitioner, if the physical and mental behavior does not meet the standard of Samantabhadra's vows, is it useful? So, what is called studying Buddhism? "I follow all Tathagatas to learn", Sakyamuni Buddha's "Don't do all evil, do all good, purify your mind, this is all Buddhism", Samantabhadra Bodhisattva and other vows, and even Medicine Buddha's Twelve Great Vows, Amitabha Buddha The forty-eight great vows of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas... and so on, the great vows of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and earnestly implement them from the body and mind. In the root of one's own mind, it finally dissolves into the entire alaya consciousness. In this way, the seeds of karmic consciousness in the field of eight consciousnesses are transformed.

In the "Surangama Sutra" recently, it was mentioned that Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva's vow to transform the spirits of the six realms with all his bodies, isn't it the most worthy of everyone's imitation?Everyone should "practice Samantabhadra's consummation practice" at the beginning of learning Buddhism. At the beginning, you will be consummated, and you will be consummated in the end. Emphasize once again that "support the Buddhas of the past and the present ten directions". At the beginning, we talked about offerings, and now we turn around and talk about offerings. It is also said in the "Vimalakirti Sutra" that among all offerings, Dharma offerings are the most important. But if you think that apart from the Dharma offerings, all other things are exempted, this will not work. In addition to the four material things, there are also the three karmic offerings of body, speech and mind, such as practicing Zhunti Dharma, practicing day and night, sincerely and respectfully, Do not move any false thoughts while practicing Dharma chanting, this is Dharma offering, true offering. Now everyone should recite this gatha again. Be careful not to recite it carelessly. If you recite the three karmas of body, speech and mind, if you recite carelessly, you will have no merit at all.Merits and virtues are achieved only through hard work (virtue)

.Now sing the next gatha: (Students chant in the same way) Originally, these gatha were linked together in one piece, and the whole was completed in one go. For the convenience of singing, we divided it into four lines into one section. It is mentioned here: "The teacher of all gods and humans in the future" is the Buddha.Notice!Don't be superstitious when learning Buddhism. Buddhas practice the way of teachers and educate all sentient beings. The leader is the one we respect. The Buddha himself doesn’t care about these things. Don’t make it into a closed religion because of this. Nowadays, all religions are exclusive, and they have misconceptions such as sectarianism. When we take refuge in Buddha, we take refuge in the Buddha with correct knowledge and views, not forming a party for personal gain, like engaging in political factions.

Ordinary people who believe in religion do not have a mind as big as Buddha. You must know that Buddha is a teacher of heaven and man, with a broad mind that is limitless. As far as gods are concerned, the measure of gods is greater than that of humans.Often the measurement of human beings is the narrowest, and sometimes the measurement of ghosts is greater than that of human beings.Large quantity, great fortune.Without measure, there is no blessing, so what measure is required to become a Buddha!Buddha is not only the teacher among people, but also the teacher of heaven and man.We usually talk about the teacher of heaven and man, how can it be the spirit of the teacher of heaven and man? This must be well understood. The Buddha is the teacher of heaven and man, he can be the teacher of the emperor, he can also be the teacher of the Jade Emperor, and the teacher of the Great Free God, so the gods of the three realms come to take refuge and praise them endlessly. The masters of these parties did not come because of orders, but came to be taught out of sincere respect. It is your virtue and wisdom that you can be a teacher of heaven and man. We must learn this spirit.Always follow Buddhism to learn according to the law. Don't think that you have a little knowledge in practice, you have done some good deeds, or you will become a monk once you become a monk!I am a bhikkhuni! If you are arrogant and arrogant, it will be bad. If you have truly cultivated your wisdom and virtues, you can cover everything, and you can achieve the four actions of a Bodhisattva, you will naturally be able to benefit all living beings, and of course you can become a Buddha, and become a teacher of heaven and man. Recently, you have all made some progress, at least less sick and less troubled. This is the practice of Dharma. beneficial phenomenon. Therefore, everyone should learn from Buddhism all the time, learn from the teachers of gods and humans, learn his spirit, make all offerings, practice precepts, samadhi, and wisdom in accordance with the teachings, and learn all the disciplines of the six perfections, ten thousand lines, and the twelve divisions of the Tripitaka. list. All is one, and one is all.In this way, when you go out to promote the Dharma in the future, you will forget yourself as soon as you take the seat, and devote yourself wholeheartedly to the Dharma. Besides, "all intentional happiness is perfect", this "all intentional happiness" includes the two aspects of your own intention and happiness as well as those of Buddha and good teachers. If sentient beings can follow the teachings in their daily lives, the Buddhas and good teachers will naturally be happy. The greatest wish of Buddhas and virtuous teachers is that all sentient beings become Buddhas, free from suffering and attain happiness. For example, the Fifty Verses of the Teaching Method of Tantra and other scriptures all mention that to make good friends happy—Yi Le, as long as you practice seriously, follow the teachings, and practice according to the law, he will be satisfied. Heaven does what a child can't teach, thinks it's right, does its own way, and degenerates in a daze. The good teacher had no choice but to wait for you to come back slowly with emotion, and then come to help turn over after you have truly repented. Therefore, this mind-joy is two-sided. As long as you practice and become a Buddha, your wisdom and merits are complete, and your mind-joy will also be perfect.Buddha and all living beings are indistinguishable and in harmony. This passage is coherent from top to bottom, and now that I have explained it to you, if you understand it, you must act accordingly. Therefore, the following follows, "I would like to follow the learning of the three generations, and quickly achieve the Great Bodhi."Let's quickly realize our enlightenment and become a Buddha! Please sing the following text again: (Students chant in the same way) As for the life of Sakyamuni Buddha that we know now, it is based on what all living beings in our mother-in-law world have seen. All the Buddhas of the ten directions and three times became Buddhas here, and most of them manifested in this model.Shakyamuni Buddha practiced asceticism for six years before he attained enlightenment under the bodhi tree. This view is universally recognized by scholars of Mahayana and Mahayana Buddhism, but there are different opinions on the age when he became a monk.In particular, the content of the Buddha's statement after enlightenment is even more controversial. The Southern Buddhism affirms that the Buddha first taught the Hinayana method, that is, the "Si Ahan" and other scriptures. It is the original Buddhism, the real Buddhism, and all other Mahayana scriptures are completely denied, saying that they were created by later people. They take the Four Truths and the Twelve Causes and Conditions taught by the Buddha after he became a monk and enlightened under the Bodhi tree as the center of the Dharma. The great arhat's nirvana is the ultimate, thinking that after nirvana he will never come again, there is no such thing as the Bodhisattva way. Both the Sutra and Esoteric Buddhism of Mahayana Taoism say: After the Buddha became enlightened under the bodhi tree, he first preached the Huayan Sutra, but it was not for the sake of all living beings in this world.Under the bodhi tree, he first attained righteous enlightenment, ascended to the heavenly palace to preach, and opened the Huayan Great Teaching for heaven and man. In the human way, he first taught the Four Noble Truths. It turned out that after enlightenment, the Buddha first showed that he was not going to preach, but was about to enter Nirvana, because he moved Di Shitianren to ask for the Dharma, and begged the Buddha not to enter Nirvana, because of the great vow of the Buddha for many kalpas. The great practice lies in benefiting all beings and saving lives. Now that you have become enlightened, why not erect a large Dharma banner to benefit people and heaven? But the Buddha sighed: "Stop! Stop! My Dharma is wonderful and hard to think about." The wisdom of all living beings in this world is not enough!Later, the Buddha mercifully agreed to Di Shi's request for the Dharma, and then opened many convenient doors, using the method of one vehicle to perform the teachings of the Three Vehicles and Five Vehicles, and taught for forty-nine years. Now we talk about learning from Buddhism and making offerings to all Buddhas in the ten directions and three times. Then in this saha world, the Buddha has already manifested Nirvana, but is it really Nirvana? No. Among the praises of the "Avatamsaka Sutra", there are sentences such as: "All ten directions are boundless Buddhas", "Zhan Ran does not move, there is no going back and forth", etc. The Buddha has neither going nor coming, and there is no Nirvana. In all lands, in all worlds. To be honest, the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha in his life are nothing more than a demonstration of an incarnation of Buddha in this world. Therefore, it is said in the "Brahma Net Sutra" of Huayan Realm and Mahayana Precepts: Shakyamuni Buddha It is one of the incarnations of the thousand Buddhas, its retribution body is Lusana Buddha, and its dharmakaya is Vairocana Buddha. Therefore, in the past, most of the temples on the mainland had three identical Buddha statues in the main hall, which represented the three bodies of Buddha, Dharma, Retribution, and Transformation.Later, Taoism also imitated it, and named it "Sanqing"-Shangqing, Yuqing, and Taiqing. The so-called "three gates" are the three of one, two, and three, not the mountain gate, but represent the three gates of precepts, concentration and wisdom. In terms of Mahayana Buddhism, the Buddha has three bodies and has not entered Nirvana. The body of the Dharma Transformation Buddha fills all the lands. If you don't come, you come, if you don't go, you go, and if you don't go, you don't come.In all the lands in the ten directions, there are the Buddha's "vast, pure, wonderful and solemn" inconceivable places of practice.Majestic and pure is the realm of Buddha, so the solemn and pure in your heart is also the realm of Buddha. We follow Buddhism, after becoming a Buddha, there will be no coming and going, all sentient beings are exhausted, my wish is endless, every Buddha has no Nirvana, they are all re-entrants. "All the people will surround the Tathagata, all under the Bodhi tree king", on all the pure and solemn temples in the ten directions, the pure, wonderful and solemn Buddha realm, every Buddha said the same thing as Sakyamuni Buddha, the same "all the people will surround the Tathagata ", the Buddha was speaking, and other Buddhas also sent representatives to listen to the Dharma, "all under the Bodhi tree king".We follow Buddhism now, and we must understand the teachings of the Buddha and the actions of the Buddha's vows, but why do we do this? The answer is below, let's read it again and sing the next stanza: (Students chant in the same way)
