Chapter 1 introduction

Purpose Driven Life 里克·沃伦 3779Words 2018-03-20
Your existence is no accident, even before the creation of the world, God had you in mind, and formed you for His purpose, which goes far beyond your days on earth; You were made for eternity! There are a lot of self-improvement books that always suggest you start with yourself as the starting point for your explorations, but Warren believes that starts with a creator and why you were created. You were made by God and for God; life only makes sense when you understand that. This book will help you understand the purpose of living in this world and God's incredible plan for you, not only for the here and now, but also for eternity. In this book, Rick Warren will take you through a forty-day personal journey of retirement that will change the answer to the number one question in life: What am I living for?Once you understand God's purpose for creating you, it will reduce your stress, focus you on your abilities, simplify your decisions, and make your life meaningful; more importantly, it will help you to be good for eternity Prepare.

This book is dedicated to you. Before you were born, God planned this moment in your life. It is not by chance that you are holding this book in your hand right now.God longs for you to find the life He created you to live—here and now, and forever and ever. In Christ we find who we are and why we live. Long before we heard about Christ, . . . his eyes were upon us, and his purpose was for us to live a life of glory, according to his plan for everything and everyone. Ephesians 1:11 (Msg) I am indebted to the hundreds of classical modern authors and teachers who have shaped my life and helped me learn these truths.I thank God, and thank you.Let me have the honor of sharing all this with you.

a sincere invitation A few years ago, I saw a movie "Contact" (Chinese translation film Contact the Future), which described how a very talented female scientist Ellie interpreted the signal from outer space and realized her lifelong dream - representing Earth makes contact with cultures from outer space.A friend who is a female scientist in the film asked her why she was so persistent and determined to embark on this space journey that might never return. She replied, "I'm always looking for answers to the questions of why I'm here, what I am, who we are, and those answers are worth the price I paid to find them."

Indeed, the answers to these questions are ones we all want to find, and are worth our lives to find. Many people use various methods to find it.Some people use conjectures, conjectures, and assumptions to answer for themselves; some people do all kinds of crazy experiments to find out; some people follow the trend and the world, thinking that the direction with more people is the right direction; Joseph Addison, a British writer in the 18th century, said: "When I see the epitaph of a great man, all the jealousy in my heart disappears. When I see the tombstone of those who are famous for their beauty in the world, I have no desire in my heart." When I see a wise man lying side by side in a graveyard with an opponent equal to his own ingenuity, I am saddened and shocked by the insignificant rivalries. When I see the gravestones of famous people hundreds of years ago, I think about how fleeting we all are."

Life is really short, no matter how chic it is, life is not something we can afford to squander. We cannot go through everything in person to find meaning. This book was written for that purpose. The author, Rick Warren, sincerely invites you to participate in this forty-day journey to discover your purpose in life. You came into this world with an important purpose and mission.God has exhausted his mind to create you uniquely, and there will no longer be another person exactly like you in the world.Because you are precious to fulfill the purpose for which you were created. When translating this book, I was moved to tears many times, because of God’s great love, and also for the sacred and important purpose and mission He gave us.I can feel the author's heart and love.I still remember that in 2000, shortly after the death of Rick Warren's father, he mentioned on the podium that one night before his father's death (also mentioned in this book), he woke up from the state of death several times, and he was eager to think about what to do. bed, repeating over and over to gain one more soul for Jesus. At that time, all the people were crying.I can't help myself.Old Jimmy (his father's name is Jim Warren) I knew, even when he was suffering from a very serious cancer, he held my hand tightly, encouraged me enthusiastically, and told me that the work I did was extremely important.Every time I saw him, I was full of energy, joy, and praise. What a person who lives within God’s purpose!

Often, I have the opportunity to meet people of all ages, whether they are young people in school, middle-aged people with successful careers, or elderly people who are looking after their lives, regardless of the industry they are engaged in or the level of achievements and education.I found that a person who lives within God’s purpose has a life that is bright, rich, solid and secure. In addition to academic love, young people often have a higher calling and a life full of abilities; middle-aged people often have a broader world and contributions besides career and family; Tomorrow with plans and purpose. These differences are all because they know what the God who created them has given them a purpose in life.

What about me?I was particularly fortunate to have this purpose and mission in my life when I was very young. When I look back at my life path, I can't help but be amazed that God has a purpose in every stage of life, whether it is good times or bad times, suffering or joy.Even in the bleakest and lonely times of life, there is still hope and presence. From young to middle-aged, even though he occasionally experienced discouragement and disappointment, he never despaired, because with his "edict" in his body, he could not be hindered by all kinds of inevitable setbacks in life. W. Tozer put it this way: God created us for the purpose that we and Him, He and us, can enjoy kinship-like and mysterious sweetness in the heavenly fellowship.God means that we can see him in spirit, live with him, and get life from his smiling face. . . . is practical experience, not just a doctrine to be obeyed, but a life to be enjoyed every day and every hour. "On this point, I have experienced it personally, and I can testify to it. God's original intention is for each of us to enjoy this kind of life and life.

My deepest hope is that through this book, you can find the purpose of life that God has given you, and fulfill these purposes. And, one day, let us receive his reward together in our eternal home. Finally, I would like to thank the North Chinese Church in Toronto, Canada for helping with the translation of the first draft, the staff of the Messenger Association for their continuous prayer and support, the staff of Daosheng Publishing House for their patient cooperation, and Ms. Jiang Haixia and Mr. Su Wen'an Lots of help in writing.May God himself repay. A Purposeful Life Journey how to make good use of this book

This is not just a book, but a guidebook for a forty-day spiritual journey. It can help you find the answer to life's most important question: "Why are you here?" When you complete this journey, you'll understand God's purpose for your life and understand the big picture, which is how each piece of your life is How it fits together. Having this far-reaching perspective reduces your stress, simplifies your decisions, and increases your sense of satisfaction. Most importantly, it helps prepare you for eternity. next forty days The average lifespan of modern humans is 25,550 days.If you're in this average, that's roughly how long you'll be alive.Wouldn't it be wise to set aside forty of these days to think about what God wants you to do with the rest of your life?

The Bible clearly states that God considers the forty days to be a period of special spiritual significance.Whenever God prepares man for His purposes, He often uses forty days: .Noah's life was changed by forty days of rain. .Moses' forty days on Mount Sinai changed his life. .The spies of Israel spent forty days in the Promised Land, and lives were changed. .David's life was changed by Goliath's 40-day challenge. .Elijah walked for forty days relying on a meal from God, and his life was renewed and changed. .The people in Nineveh repented and their lives were changed because of the 40-day opportunity God gave them.

.The Lord Jesus experienced forty days of trials in the wilderness and gained strength. .The lives of the apostles were changed by the forty-day presence of the risen Lord who appeared to them. In the next forty days, your life, too, will be changed. This book is divided into forty chapters, and I strongly urge you to read only one chapter a day, so that you have enough time to think about the meaning of your own life. The Bible says, "Let God change the way you think and transform you into a new creature so you can understand what He wants you to do." One reason many books don't change us is that we tend to rush to the next chapter without pausing to take the time to think about what we've read.We rush to the next truth without recalling what we have learned. Don't just read the book, interact with it, underline important words, write thoughts in the margins, and make this book your own. Four traits that help you At the end of each chapter of this book, there is a box called "My Life Purpose Reflection", where you will find: .A question to ponder: This short sentence condenses a project-guiding principle for you to reflect on as you go about your day.Paul said to Timothy, "Ponder what I say, for in everything the Lord will give you understanding." .A verse to memorize: This verse reflects the teaching of this chapter.Memorizing scriptures is probably the first habit you need to develop if you want to improve your spiritual life. You can write scriptures on small cards to take with you. .A thought question: These questions will help you think about what the chapter means and how it applies to your life.I encourage you to write your answers in the margins, you can also write them in a notebook, writing down your thoughts is the best way to organize your thoughts. Also in Appendix 1 you can find: .Discussion Questions: Over the next forty days, I urge you to study this book with one or more friends.Traveling with a companion is always better. You can discuss the content of the book and learn from each other; this will help your spiritual life grow stronger and deeper.True spiritual growth is never an isolated, individual pursuit.Maturity comes through relationship building and group interaction. The best way to clarify God's purpose for your life is to let the scriptures speak for themselves. Therefore, the book quotes the Bible extensively, with thousands of verses taken from fifteen English translations and paraphrases. There are special reasons for using different translations, which are explained in Appendix 3. I've been praying for you In writing this book, I have often prayed that you would experience the incredible hope, power, and joy that come from discovering what God wants you to do in the world. This experience is beyond doubt.I'm so excited for what's going to happen to you.I've been there too: I've never been the same since I discovered my purpose in life. Knowing these benefits, I challenge you to stay on the next forty days of your spiritual journey, not to miss a single day of reading.Your life is worth taking this time to think about.Put this event on your calendar as your daily appointment. If you promise to do so, let's make a covenant together. The act of signing a commitment is of great significance. If you have a reading partner, sign the contract with him/her.Let's get started together! my oath With God's help, I commit to seek God's purpose in my life for the next forty days. your name_________________________ Reading partner: "Two people are better than one, because two people work better together. When one person falls, the other can pick him up.  …Two people working together can resist the attack of one person, but alone can't be sure A cord of three strands is not easily broken." (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, modern Chinese translation)
