My hypothesis of the origin of conscience condemnation begins by assuming that the change was neither gradual nor voluntary. It does not represent an institutional development adapted to new conditions; it is a rupture, a leap, a compulsion, an irresistible catastrophe. It cannot be fought, nor even resented.Second, my hypothesis also assumes that the confinement of the ever-unrestrained and shapeless populace in a compact mould, an act which begins with violence, must end in violence. So the first "state" was born and developed as a terrible tyrant, as a brutally oppressive, unscrupulous machine, until the people and half-beasts were not only kneaded and tamed, but It has already taken shape.I use the word "state," and what I mean is self-evident: a race of yellow-haired brigands, a master race of conquerors, who organize themselves as war demands, and who have the strength to organize. They have no scruple to seize with their fearful claws the perhaps outnumbered but disorganized wandering race. This is how "nations" on Earth originated.I think we have overcome the illusion that the state begins with a "contract".Whoever can give orders is the natural "master", and whoever is rude in action and manner. What's the use of such a person having a contract!Such creatures cannot be explained, they are fated, without cause, without reason, without scruples, without excuses. They appear lightning-fast, too scary, too sudden, too compelling, too "unusual" to even hate them.Instinctively they create form, they enforce form, they are the most careless and unconscious of artists. In short, wherever they appear, there will be something new. This new thing is a living and governing body, its various parts and functions are clearly defined and interrelated, and it cannot accommodate anything that is not from the previous whole. Get something meaningful. These natural organizers do not know what is crime, what is responsibility, what is scruples. They are driven by that dreadful artist-individualism, rock-solid, as good at getting itself permanent recognition by its "work" as a mother is at getting herself recognized by her child. It has long been clear that the condemnation of conscience does not originate in these people. And yet, without these men, if the blows of their hammers and the brutality of their artists had not squeezed masses of liberty out of the world, or at least out of sight, no conscience would have been able to condemn this abominable growth. We understand that only the instinct of freedom that brutally forces the hidden, only the instinct of freedom that is pushed back, locked in the heart, and finally can only vent and release on itself is the germination of conscience condemnation.
