Dharma Overview 明旸法师 2599Words 2018-03-20
(1) The words of Ashita Venerable Kajanyan Narada, surnamed Kajanyan, given name Naraduo.Born in a Brahmin family in Macaque Food Village, Ati Country, South India. The father is the king's national teacher, and the family owns a large field and many servants.Less learned from his uncle Ashita Immortal, he is proficient in "Veda", fortune-telling, and masters the four meditations and five passages.Ashita said to him: After Prince Siddhartha becomes enlightened, you must worship him as your teacher. (2) Uncover the secrets of ancient inscriptions Kajanyan also knew many languages. At that time, near the city of Balonai, an ancient stele was found. The characters engraved on it were unrecognizable.Jiazhanyan Jiebang applied for the application, saying that it was written on Brahma, and the translated content is as follows:

Who is the king of kings?Who is the Holy Zhongsheng? Who is a fool?Who is Homo sapiens? Who drowns in the sea of life and death?Who is liberated in Xiaoyaoyuan? How to get rid of dirt? How to realize Nirvana? The inscriptions translated by Jiazhanyan were widely read throughout the country, but the contents of the inscriptions could not be answered. In order to understand the meaning of the content, he interviewed the six masters and heretics and some authoritative old Brahmans, but he couldn't answer it.Finally, I thought of the Prince Siddhartha that the Immortal Ashita said. He heard that he had become enlightened, and he must be able to tell the secret of the content of the inscription, so he visited the Buddha at the Bamboo Forest Abode. The Buddha replied in verse:

The king of kings is the sixth heavenly king, and the saint of saints is the Great Enlightened Buddha. A person who is polluted by ignorance is a fool, and a person who eliminates afflictions is a wise man. People who have two attachments of ego and dharma are drowning in the sea of life and death. Those who have proved the emptiness of dependent origin are liberated in the Xiaoyao Garden. Only by cultivating the Tao and cutting off greed, hatred and ignorance can one be free from defilement, and one can realize Nirvana by diligently practicing precepts, concentration and wisdom. After hearing the Buddha's answer, Kajanyan stepped into the world of truth and took refuge in the Buddha.

(3) Promote equality Jiazhanyan's teaching method is good at individual conversations. No matter how stubborn a person is, just listening to his words will make him stop. When he was enlightened in the country of Madara, the king accused him and said: You are the most noble Brahmin caste, and now you are a disciple of the Buddha who was born in the Kshatriya caste. Don't you feel humiliated?Kajanyan replied: In terms of occupation, society has different divisions of labor in religion, politics, commerce, and industry and agriculture, but it is worth studying to form classes and explain the advantages and disadvantages of races. It should be noted that people of each caste are good and evil. For example, in the Brahmin caste, there are many people who kill, commit adultery, wrong views, and create all kinds of evil karma. Does this mean that he is a noble race?It can be seen that whether a person is noble or inferior does not depend on the inferiority of the race.Being able to cultivate the Tao and do good deeds, to achieve enlightenment and fruitfulness, regardless of race, is noble and admired by people. After listening to his words, the king converted to the Buddha, reformed politics, strengthened the rule of law, amnesty the innocent Sudras imprisoned in prison, and punished some criminals who had no fear of Brahmans.

In addition to advocating equality of caste, Kajanyan also advocated the equality of the old and the young. For example, when he was having dinner with the monks in the Poronaiwu Nichi, an old Brahman came up leaning on a stick. Everyone stood up and gave up their seats. I didn't see the appearance, ignored it, and didn't give up my seat. The old Brahman knew that Kajayan was from a Brahmin family, and he was already annoyed enough that Kajayan left Brahmanism and converted to Buddhism. How dare you be so rude now, not even give up your seat, it's really lawless.Furious, he pointed his stick at Kajanyan's face and asked, "Why are you so defiant?"Kajanyan said very gently: Judging from your rude behavior and voice, you are not worthy of being called an elder, nor worthy of people's respect.Your afflictions of greed, hatred and ignorance are very serious, and you are deeply trapped in the pleasures of the five desires. Although you live to be eighty or ninety years old, it can only be said that your life is in vain.On the contrary, if there is a twenty-year-old youth who has freed himself from the shackles of love and desire, has no troubles, and has no concept of inequality. Although he is young, he can still be called an elder and should be respected by people. After hearing what Kajanyan said, the old Brahman knew that he was wrong, so he walked away silently.

(4) Discussion first Among the Buddhist disciples, Jiazhanyan is known as the number one in discussion. He has quick thinking, answers questions tit-for-tat, and has clear views. For example, a Brahman ascetic asks: Brahmans fight with Brahmins, and Kshatriyas fight with Kshatriyas. Why?Jiazhanyan replied: For greed. What is the reason why monks fight with monks?Jiazhan Yan replied: It is my opinion and law enforcement.Who can leave greed, self-view and law enforcement?Kajanyan replied: That is my teacher Shakyamuni Buddha.Brahmin ascetics listened to Kajanyan's words and quickly converted to the Buddha.Kajanyan's good friend Lu Yanzha was a Brahmin who married a wife and had children.Once we met, Kajanyan said to him: We become monks to practice Taoism in order to escape life and death, and we must not regard faith and Taoism as a profession. Now Brahmins ascetics specialize in performing sacrifices for others, as if they are running a business. How many of those Brahmins who became monks did it for the sake of cultivation? It's all for the sake of fame and fortune, and hypocritically pretending to be very pious, hanging the signboard of religion, and chasing selfish desires, this is a great tragedy!Lu Yanzhe heard what Jia Chanyan said, but he misunderstood it.Correct evil and return to righteousness.Another time he saw a woman sitting by the river weeping and wanted to commit suicide by throwing herself into the river.Kajanyan asked her why she committed suicide? The woman said: I am a slave in a rich man's family. I have worked for years and months. Not only do I not have enough food and clothing, I have no freedom, and I am often beaten and scolded by my master for no reason. Thinking about it, life is really meaningless.Kajanyan said: Poverty can be sold, can you sell poverty to me?After hearing this, the woman was very surprised and said: "Poverty can be sold. You want to buy poverty. It's so fresh, but I don't know how to sell it."Kajanyan said: Only the rich can enjoy the wealth in this life by giving alms in the previous life; the poor are poor because they did not give alms in the previous life. Now that you are giving me alms and blessings, isn't that equivalent to selling poverty to me?After hearing this, the women knew the way to get rich, but now they are poor, how can they give alms?Jiazhanyan handed the bowl to the woman and said, "Isn't it a great charity for you to fill me with a bowl of water?"The woman filled a bowl of water for Kajanyan, and with this merit, she was born in the Trayastrim Heaven and enjoyed blessings. Also, Princess Wencha died, and King Wencha was very sad, not eating or drinking all day long, weeping and sobbing.Soak the body of the princess in sesame oil to prevent it from spoiling.Said to the dead body: Honey, why don't you look at me?Why don't you talk?It was ordered that whoever can revive the princess will worship him as a teacher. Shi Jiazhanyan lived in Poluo Liyuan and was invited by the king.First break a branch and say to the king: Can this branch keep its green branches and leaves forever if it leaves the tree body?Similarly, the karma of the princess has been exhausted, and her lifespan is over. Can she be resurrected?Kajanyan's words made King Wencha understand the truth of impermanence that cannot be resurrected after death. And further enlightenment said: the king should spread the memory of loving the princess, love the people of the whole country, replace private love with compassion, and replace oppression with equality, so that the country can prosper and the people can be happy.King Wencha listened to Jiajanyan's teachings, turned sorrow into strength, rectified the state affairs, loved the people like a concubine, and won the support of the people. The characteristics of Jiachanyan's theory are that one key can open another lock, and it will enlighten people's specific ideological problems without making empty and useless jokes.

(5) Speaking on behalf of the Buddha The Buddha always praises his disciples who have made progress and achieved something to enhance his prestige. When the Buddha taught in the country of Avanti, he ordered Jiazhanyan to speak on his behalf.Jiazhanyan said that eloquence is not hindered, and he is good at discussing. First explain the principle, and then prove it with a large number of examples. If Kajanyan talks about impermanence, first talk about the law of impermanence. All things come together and part, have life and die, and have success and decay. All conditioned laws in the world, mountains, rivers, earth, and myriad phenomena are inseparable from the law of impermanence.Give examples from nature and society.Spring is here in nature, and the flowers are blooming; the autumn wind is blowing, and the yellow leaves are falling. The sun, which emits infinite light, will disappear into the dark night every day.The beautiful and confidante gradually became skinny and gray-haired, and became old.In society, loved ones are loved, and no one can replace others when they die of old age.Filial sons and virtuous grandchildren, even if they cry to death, they will not retreat from impermanence.Fame and power are momentary, but they are fleeting. How can it be long?Fubi Wanghou, natural disasters and man-made disasters, cannot live forever. If you don't understand the principle of impermanence, you will be confused by colorful illusions. On the surface, the green mountains and green waters in nature, the happiness of life, and the feasting and feasting in society seem to be full of vitality, but in reality they are always swallowed by impermanence. Finally, it clarifies the mission of Buddhist disciples, dare to challenge impermanence, practice the Noble Eightfold Path diligently, shatter the impermanent world, and realize the eternal life that is neither birth nor death.Jiazhanyan's statement is clear in layers, thorough in reasoning, vivid and specific, and has greatly benefited the four groups of disciples present.
