Chapter 3 Two lives

The neighbor has a ewe and gave birth to two lambs in the afternoon. After the lamb fell to the ground, it limped and struggled for a few minutes, then stood up, got under the belly of the ewe, and looked for the teat.It is said that this is instinct, and it seems that it can be understood without further understanding. Life enjoys life, manifested in various activities to fulfill its life. This is a common thing, but it is actually not easy to understand. From a physiological point of view, there is an inner complex structure that restricts this and that; from a psychological point of view, there is an inner strong desire to guide this and that.So to be able to be like that, so to be like that, what is going on?what is the reason? Is there a purpose?

The lamb, born in a muddle-headed way, may be "after" or even "before", with awareness, feeling that there is an "I".So I am attached to "I", starting from "I", in order to survive, in order to propagate seeds (a way to continue life), beg for milk, grass, and everything I need.Correspondingly, growth, after several days and nights, was finally brought to the massacre case, stabbed across the neck, the flesh was eaten by humans, and the skin was slept by humans, and life was ended in a nonchalant manner. People raise sheep, eat the meat of the sheep, and sleep on the skin of the sheep.Man is the master, and sheep is the subject. The status of man and sheep seems to be very different.According to man himself, man is the spirit of all things. There are indeed many more tricks in life.Dressing, eating, living in a house, riding in chariots and horses, if you have spare energy, you have to embroider skirts, pink, white and green, play the moon and sing the wind, fight cocks and run dogs.Even the establishment of a special city, the sound of bells, the sound of food, and the establishment of morality and words, the name will last for generations, these are things that sheep can't hear. However, judging from the nature of life, humans and sheep are obviously not very far apart, and they landed in a random manner.Afterwards, he was also attached to "I", starting from "I", in order to eat and drink men and women, exhausting his muscles and bones, starving his body, even eating honey and swords, killing relatives and selling friends. , ended his life in a foolish way.Sheep are "killed by man", man is "killed by heaven", both have to die.

We still don't know what's going on outside the earth. Just what we see on the earth, the phenomenon of life is very different. The manner of death also varies widely.Aging is probably a minority.Changes in the natural environment, unable to adapt, resulting in death, such as high winds and cicadas cutting off, water drying up and fish dying, this is a way.Praying mantises catch cicadas, sparrows catch mantises, and die from being eaten by other species. This is another way.It can be collectively named "Heavenly Kill".Le Sheng is the most stubborn force in life. Whether he was carried to the massacre, or pushed to the execution ground, or died by sister Dao, or by snakes and scorpions, he moaned and groaned hoarsely.Feel the excruciating pain. Before or after death, seeking health and comfort, suffering from various diseases, seeking food and women, suffering from various lusts, are often as unbearable as poisonous insects sucking blood, and sharp knives piercing the heart. This is just as Lao Tzu said: "The heaven and the earth are not benevolent, and all things are regarded as dogs." It is no wonder that Buddhism regards reincarnation as a great suffering, and longs to realize Nirvana to the other shore.

Many people believe that the great virtue of heaven and earth is life, so a gentleman should strengthen himself and live endlessly. We can say that this is self-deception after being deceived.Landing in a mess, limited by some kind of natural force, desperately trying to survive and pass on the seeds, because of "wanting", I think that there is beauty, value, and meaning here.In fact, what is the meaning other than being driven by the blind will, as Schopenhauer said? Heaven and earth may not know.If you know, this arrangement of life seems to be a prank. We know very little about the "greatness" in which we are placed. It can be imagined that there are at least two possibilities: 1. It exists in an infinitely continuous time, and everything in it is connected by a chain of causality; 2. It is an existence of all manifestations without beginning and end. The form or changing form, the time sequence before and after, is just a form of subjective cognition that we perceive it.If it is the former, then from the first moment (assuming there is a so-called "initial"), everything is bound by the chain of cause and effect, and all development and changes are inevitable, that is to say, its tendency is to ride a tiger. If it is the latter, everything has already been done, and of course there is no so-called choice. In short, whether it is death or suffering, it is a destiny, and there seems to be no other way but to be peaceful.

The ancients had the so-called "fear of destiny".If the fear is due to the feeling that the natural force is too strong, the manpower is too small, and the destiny is difficult to change, then this attitude towards life is pessimistic at the bottom. There are not many thinkers in ancient and modern times who talk about pessimistic philosophy.Schopenhauer believes that life is just dominated by blind will, which is meaningless. He wrote an article to promote suicide, saying that this is a challenge to nature (meaning you force me to survive, but I will not obey), but He himself lived quite a long time, so it can be seen that he had to obey. Most of the so-called pessimism in the world is that some kind of strong desire is frustrated, and the pain is unbearable for a while, but there is still joy in the bottom.A true pessimist should be worried about the limited and continuous life phenomenon and the irreversible immeasurable suffering. They should doubt and deny the value of "great existence", and advocate that "permanent existence" is better than "absolute nothingness".

Not at all, is it possible? In any case, a little life in "Da You" is always powerless. When Montesquieu was dying, he said: "The power of the emperor is as great as my power is small." Fearing the destiny is exactly what has to be done. However, it is still possible to write "Heavenly Questions" if you know what you are ordered to do. This can be regarded as a small reproach to nature.
