Chapter 16 Chapter 15: Heroes see the same thing

In the third chapter of Zhang Ailing's book, Fang began to talk about several ancient manuscripts. But she started from Yang Jizhen's collection, and there is no trace of "Zhiyan" in this edition. She didn't use the term "dream manuscript" that others had used, but called it "full manuscript".This name is only because among the ancient manuscripts, only this one has 120 chapters, which is different from the others, which are all 80 chapters. However, since Ms. Zhang adopts this title, it shows that her self-contradictory concepts are not clear.Because, she tried her best to distinguish the original work from the fake continuation—using the allusion of "a dog's tail continued with a marten" (see the preface), why did she call the 120 chapters "complete" again? !

A wise man has a lot of worries, but also has a loss.If so. From this article onwards, her articles are extraordinary, insightful, colorful and fascinating. Before her, researchers had different opinions on the evaluation and estimated age of this book; she was the first to point out that this book (the part before the eighty chapters) was earlier than the Jiaxu and Gengchen books. My fourth brother, Huchang, told me in the 1960s (last century) that Yang Zangben is a very early book, and the words and sentences are full of authenticity, which is very valuable. At that time, because all the books were in Huchang's hand, I had no time to do this for the Dahui school project, so I heard what he said, and it was imprinted in my heart, but I couldn't verify it.

I just reminded him one thing: this book writes "all" as "duo", which is clearly a southern accent.I know that Ms. Zhang has also noticed this point, and she also cited the examples of Wu dialect and Nanjing dialect, and said that among the twelve hairpins, such as Chai, Dai, and Xiang, they should all be from Suzhou (should refer to the place where they were born and grew up. ). I have already pointed out in "A New Evidence of a Dream of Red Mansions" that, judging from the fifth round of judgments, rhymes and other homophonic characters of Quwen, Xueqin still has the local accent of Jiangnan, not the authentic "standard" pronunciation of Beijing Mandarin.

So, the "many" in this book is the trace of Xueqin's manuscript?Or the trace of copying hands? Not easy to say. She found the "second child" (called Baoyu; the third child is called Jia Huan) in this book, and said that this is Nanjing dialect, is it true?Because that's what people in Tianjin say, and people in Beijing also say that. My elder brother is old, and his natural temperament is not very sensitive and precise, and cannot be compared with Zhang Ailing, but he has already felt the text of this book early, and it can be said that the hero sees and agrees.

But as soon as this issue is mentioned, another issue is involved: in terms of reconciliation, is it better to follow the early text, or to choose the later version? I remember someone said that not all manuscripts thrown into the wastebasket are bad or not advisable (roughly).I don’t necessarily mean that; it turns out that for a writer, although the first draft is not “perfect”, it represents “authentic”; It has been changed to "good", but at the same time, some of them are not as good as they were before, and even "turn gold into iron". Wenxin is one thing, with fine needles and dense threads, echoing compactly.Writing is another matter, vigorous and sharp, full of energy. The two will "conflict". "Thin" means thin, omissions and inconsistencies are saved, but the words collapsed and withered...Such examples are not uncommon.

Eileen Chang's prodigy has a very careful mind and a strong memory (memory), which is hard to match. She cited a large number of examples, Yang Zang's version (the so-called "full copy") wrote Hewen, and later versions such as Gengchen's version modified Hewen. "Red Scholar"!However, she just "opens the account" for you and doesn't say anything else to you. She is like a "scientist", not like a writer and connoisseur of literature and art. But why is she so focused on these "details"?Of course, it includes the "mystery" of exploring Xueqin's literary heart and creative experience.

She concludes that this book is also a blended book. After nineteen chapters, they are all early texts of the original work. This makes sense. Both my brother and I tend to focus on the early and be careful about the late.Is our "tendency" worthwhile? Will it make her laugh? It's a pity that I can no longer consult this strange woman. The poem says: The hero sees the same thing, and he is happy to follow a word as a teacher. How many arrogant people in the world advised him to look up to Ailing Feng.
