Chapter 258 A letter to female members and teachers of the Democratic Progressive Party

Dear female members of the Democratic Progressive Party, teachers of primary and secondary schools: Because of my limited mobility, I have not participated in various rallies of the Democratic Progressive Party for four years, but there is not a day that I do not miss you! Comrades, teachers of primary and secondary schools, you are the gardeners of our 200 million seedlings in China, and you are the most critical and important support and promotion people for the three aspects - facing the four modernizations, facing the world, and facing the future! I heard that there are now several institutions co-sponsored the "My Teacher" essay collection, and within a few days, tens of thousands of elementary school students' essays have been received.I know better that a sentence from a teacher is more effective than ten sentences from a parent.Today I want to ask you one thing, and I ask you: I want the children in primary and secondary schools to be a "civilized Beijinger" or "civilized Chinese" in a down-to-earth manner!

These days are the spring outing season.I can't go out myself, but I know that there are many primary and secondary school students who are happily going on spring outings to scenic spots in the suburbs.I hope that under the leadership of the teachers, all of them have civilized habits, do not spit anywhere, and do not throw sugar wrappers, fruit cores or other things anywhere. I will never forget that as early as 1936, when I was traveling in Europe, a German friend took us to have a picnic in a wood on the outskirts of Berlin on Sunday. The woods stretch as far as the eye can see. There are always thousands of families or groups spreading cloth on the grass that day, and a group of people drink, eat, laugh and have fun, which is very lively. My German friend told me that almost 100,000 people have a picnic here every Sunday, but after the picnic, the 100,000 people dispersed, but the grass was clean, not even a piece of paper!I admire the civilized habits of the Germans from the bottom of my heart!

In China, the more famous a place is, the more tourists there are, the dirtier and messier it is.It was much better after liberation. But yesterday, my daughter and her colleagues went to Xiangshan Jiufeng, which can be regarded as a spring outing. When I came back, I asked her, are there many tourists on Jiufeng Mountain? Is it clean? She shook her head and said it was not clean, not to mention candy wrappers, fruit cores, and some broken beer bottles, plastic cups, etc., thrown everywhere! Most of the people who threw these things were teenagers in their twenties, and before they left, they left a name on the mountain wall, "XXX came here for a visit"!

Now that the government is talking about spiritual and material civilization, I think polluting the environment should be punished more severely than spitting! I wrote a letter explaining this truth to children in "Three Letters to Young Readers·Newsletter 2".I ask the female teachers of Minjin to reread this newsletter as an extra-curricular reading for the students, okay?By the way, I would like to ask An, your enthusiastic friend Bing Xin, May 5, 1985
