Chapter 189 Mourning Comrade Boxin

The news that I have always been worried about but didn't want to hear, finally heard it!The Democratic Progressive Center sent me a letter in which Vice Chairman Xu Boxin unfortunately died of illness on March 27. Maybe it was because of the cold spring. I just felt my hands were cold.My youngest daughter said: "On the day Uncle Xu passed away, Uncle Ge Zhicheng called to notify him, because Dad had just been discharged from the hospital, so he didn't dare to tell you, for fear that you would be sad." But how can we not be sad? We got acquainted with Comrade Xu Boxin after we joined the Association for the Promotion of Democracy in 1956; although we already knew that he was a celebrity in the publishing industry before liberation and a close comrade-in-arms of Mr. Zou Taofen. They run progressive publications, but they have been banned many times and run again many times.Their deeds of hard work in the cruel siege of the Kuomintang were unanimously praised by the intellectuals at that time.

In our nearly 30 years of contact with Comrade Xu Boxin, we deeply feel that as the leader of a democratic party, he is the best assistant to the party. He works very seriously, is extremely responsible, and never cares about personal gains and losses. He is very sincere and kind to his comrades. In the 30 years of turbulent political life, especially the 10 years of turmoil, he always gave us the greatest care. I will never forget Comrade Boxin's serious and serious attitude when he presided over the meetings of the Democratic Progressive Party that I attended. Before the meeting ended, he always respectfully asked Chairman Zhou Jianren and Vice Chairman Ye Shengtao if they had any instructions? We should all learn from him for this kind of diligent work attitude!

I remember that Comrade Boxin had a neck disease for a time, and he often couldn't straighten his head. When we came back from the cadre school in 1972, he even came to see us when he was sick, and happily told us that he had planted a lot of flowers in the yard of his house in Dongcheng, and asked us to see them.I know that when he has no work to talk about, he should infect and encourage us with a relaxed and happy atmosphere. During the days when he was sick and hospitalized, I went to Beijing Hospital for check-ups every month, and always tried to visit him upstairs in the ward. The illness has been cruelly tormenting him. I see him becoming thinner and thinner each time, but he still talks to me about work. The last time, probably in February this year, he asked me what I think about the arrangement of the Democratic Progressive leadership team. No?I smiled and said to him: "I've seen all the new leaders, it's too good to say!" He also smiled with satisfaction. At that time, beside his hospital bed, a doctor was massaging his unconscious legs.He seemed to be specifically talking to me about what he would do after he got well and was discharged from the hospital in the future, maybe he was comforting me, maybe comforting himself! As I listened to his weak conversation, I already wondered how many times I could visit him!

Comrade Boxin can no longer discuss work with us.We mourn him, and we must always learn from his noble character and his dedicated revolutionary spirit at work.Under his leadership and training in the past 30 years, DJ has a group of young and middle-aged cadres who are as diligent, conscientious, and hard-working as he is, which is the backbone of DJ!I can't do much work anymore, but I still want to be with the old, middle-aged and young comrades of the Democratic Progressive Party, "be honest with our dear party, share weal and woe", and be a good assistant to the party forever.April 2, 1984
