Chapter 58 Preface to "Selected Works of Modern Writers in Central Fujian"

Comrade Zhuo Ru asked me to write a preface to "Selected Works of Modern Writers in Central Fujian" and showed me the names of the writers, which gave me great surprise and joy.Surprised: I didn’t know that there were so many Fujianese among modern writers (because we all spoke Mandarin when we met, and no one asked about the place of origin); happy: our Fujian style of writing has not fallen, and there are still so many writers. Among these nineteen writers, there are those I have known since the 1920s, such as Zheng Zhenduo, Xu Dishan, and Lu Yin; Acquaintances but not close acquaintances; some have only met a few times; But I have read all of their works.Their times are different, their experiences are different, and their styles are different. Each of them has the characteristics of Fujianese, rich southern scenery and the feeling of returning overseas Chinese. After reading these works, it is like entering a subtropical garden full of flowers, colorful and dazzling!

I think this book will arouse its readers—especially my fellow countrymen—to love the motherland (hometown) and life.On the New Long March, with this kind of love in our hearts, we have comfort and hope in real life. Thanks to Comrade Zhao Puchu for signing this book, I would like to express my thanks here.January 10, 1981
