Chapter 135 A new page in the history of Sino-US friendship

The Chinese and American governments announced the establishment of diplomatic relations in advance. What encouraging news this is for the long-awaited people of China and the United States! The profound friendship between the Chinese and American people has a long history.Taking myself as an example, I have been to America half a century ago. From 1923 to 1926, I went to university and stayed in a hospital in the United States.I visited the United States again in 1936, so, among my foreign friends, most of them are American people. When I was recuperating at school in the United States, my American teachers, classmates, and fellow patients all gave me great help and comfort.I have already talked about these past events in the "Send to Young Readers" I wrote at that time.It is also very interesting to say that before I came to the United States, I went to school as a day student, and I never got along with my classmates day and night.

After arriving in the United States, I lived and studied with American classmates. In terms of study, we read books together, discussed together, and introduced to each other the characteristics and history of the two great nations, China and the United States. My holidays and festivals are also spent in the homes of my teachers, classmates and their close relatives and friends.During my convalescent period, they kept sending flowers and books, and even came to visit me from dozens of miles away. All these, in the midst of traveling and sickness at the end of the year, eliminated a lot of my loneliness. Here, my fellow patients should also be mentioned. They were all girls in their twenties, some were shop assistants, some were typists, and some were still studying in high school before their illness. We were idle due to illness, and had no work or homework all day long, so we passed the time by talking and laughing. At that time, I had only been in the United States for more than two months. This new continent was very novel to me, and the "old"

China is full of mysteries for these girls, and we ask each other more questions. In addition to "sympathizing with each other", our "heart-to-heart talks" often go deep. From their conversations and the books and magazines they read, I also learned about another aspect of American society.Generally speaking, through my American teachers, classmates, patients and the American people I have come into contact with, I deeply feel that the American people, like the Chinese people, are hospitable, lively, cheerful, full of justice and peace-loving of.Among the Chinese people who have studied in the United States, I am not the only one who has this experience!

For twenty-nine years, the diplomatic relations between our two countries have been in an abnormal state, but just as our beloved Chairman Mao and Premier Zhou taught, we have always pinned our hopes on the great American people! That is to say, in the past 29 years, the number of American people who have come to China to visit is still in an endless stream!Among them are my old classmates, old friends, and even alumni I have never met. They also came to visit me enthusiastically and told me the desire of the American people for the normalization of Sino-US diplomatic relations. We all firmly believe that the friendship between people is inseparable, the will of the people is irresistible, and the trend of the times for world peace and human progress is irresistible!Today, the long-term wish of the people of China and the United States has finally come true! How rejoiced I look to the future!

The one billion great people of China and the United States bear the unshirkable responsibility for the peace and stability of Asia-Pacific and other regions in the world. We are in the century of the people, and as the masters of history, we must strive to be a powerful driving force for creating world history in our ever-increasing connections and exchanges in science, education, culture, etc.! Let us use all our strength to write a new page in the history of Sino-US friendship! December 21, 1978 (This article was originally published in "Chinese Women" No. 1, 1979.)
