Chapter 24 event in tashkent

The Asian-African Writers Conference was held today in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, the Soviet Union. This is the first ever grand meeting between Asia and Africa; we cheer for its convening! More than a thousand years ago, there was a road of cultural exchanges between Asia and Africa, which was called the "Silk Road" in history. On this road, there are many beautiful cities, and the city of Tashkent in Central Asia is one of these beautiful and important cities. I imagine that beside the Tashkent Highway, there are several picturesque pavilions surrounded by mountains, and there are people wearing white scarves and long robes from time to time, leading a bunch of camels with their heads upright. , loaded with jewels, spices, scarves, and carpets, came slowly from the west amidst the melodious sound of bells and bells; on the opposite side, where the dust was rising from the cars, there were clusters of people and horses, holding several carts. It was full of silk, tea, paper, and porcelain. They met on the pavilion in the middle of the road, clasped their hands and bowed, and happily told each other. When they parked cars, drank horses, drank water, and ate dry food, they must have laughed and talked, asked each other about the situation of each other's country and people, and showed infinite friendship and care. There are also many literati and scholars who are studying and sightseeing in this gazebo. They humbly and sincerely exchange their admiration and importance for the academic philosophy of the other country, and they are eager to learn from each other to enrich and carry forward their own inherent culture—— - This "Silk Road" has been a road of friendship and unity between the Asian and African peoples since ancient times!

But this road was cut off by force by the bandits of the Western colonialists! They violently cut off the cultural exchanges between Asian and African peoples day and night for hundreds of years! Under the continuous oppression and exploitation by the colonialists, the people of Asian and African countries have finally awakened. We broke the heavy shackles, walked out of the darkness, and in the fresh and free air, under the brilliant and bright sun, we stretched out our eager and enthusiastic hands to each other. In Tashkent, a beautiful halfway city, we reunited as old friends. After going through a lot of hardships, we have endless words to say.

Writers are the spokespersons of the people, and we deeply know the pain of our people in memory, the bravery in struggle, and the struggle and joy in prospect. At the grand meeting in Tashkent, we will express the wishes of our people. We must first oppose colonialism that destroys our culture and friendship. We must work together to oppose imperialist aggression and defend peace. We must restore And develop our cultural exchanges, so that Asian and African literature will be more beautiful, more brilliant, and more beneficial to mankind because of our enthusiastic gatherings and conversations!

We must be even more vigilant, the imperialists are still at our doorstep, and some are still occupying our homeland! The U.S. and British imperialists are still entrenched in Taiwan, Lebanon, and Jordan... As long as they don't leave our sacred territory, our people will not be able to live a life of peaceful labor. As the spokesperson of the people, we must hold high the banner of anti-colonialism, opposition to aggression, and defense of peace, and fight forward together with the people! The first article of the program of the Asian-African Writers Conference has indicated that we want to discuss "the development of literature and culture in Asian countries and their role in the struggle for human progress, national independence, against colonialism, freedom and world peace." effect".

With the heated discussion and hard work of writers from dozens of countries in Asia and Africa, we can predict the success of this event! October 2, 1958
