Chapter 3 For the eternal peace between China and Japan——Farewell to the University of Tokyo

At the end of the last semester of the students, Professor Canaishi told me that the students at Tokyo University wanted me to write some parting words as a souvenir.I was preparing for a trip and was very busy, so I promised to see if I could write when the fall semester started. Now, I am standing on the route formed by the sea and the sky, watching the land where I have lived for five years gradually disappear, a kind of unstoppable loneliness wells up in my heart. When I first came to Japan, there were bomb scars all over the place, people had disoriented faces with dark expressions, tattered clothes, and ugly hats on their heads... But, this Over the past five years, Japan has gradually recovered.New and majestic buildings are erected everywhere on the ground, new products in various forms are shining in the kitchen windows of the shops, people's faces are smiling, and they are wearing neat clothes... Moreover, Japan will soon be at war with its warring countries. The conclusion of a peace treaty is to me the greatest joy.

However, my country—China, according to international law, is still in a hostile state with Japan; China was not given a seat in the peace talks with Japan. There is a Chinese proverb: "A friend who keeps fighting, a neighbor who keeps scolding." The state of hostility has long since ceased to exist in the hearts of the Chinese and Japanese people. Are "beating" and "swearing" really voluntary by the people of the two countries? No.China and Japan are in the so-called interdependent relationship, and our diplomatic relations cannot be separated by anyone. From the standpoint of a Chinese, and from the standpoint of a teacher, what I am most concerned about is the rapid exchange of the newly developed Chinese and Japanese cultures and cultural people.why?Only by accelerating thorough cultural exchanges can there be a basis for genuine and permanent peace between the two countries.

Based on my five years of living experience, I deeply feel that there is still very little real knowledge and understanding between the Chinese and Japanese people. The conclusion of the peace treaty has been delayed, and the contacts between the two peoples are not enough.Separated by a dam of war, the people of our two countries can only stretch out the hand of peace from afar, and it is difficult to hear the weak voice of peace from each other. However, I am by no means pessimistic. The friendship between the two peoples is as broad and deep as the ocean that connects our two lands, and sooner or later it will rise like the waves of the ocean and overcome all hurdles. This is the day when the two important countries in the Far East are fully united.

Friends of Tokyo University, this responsibility falls on everyone's shoulders in Japan. If Japan is a truly democratic country, young people can express their opinions on the future of the country, and the opinions of friends at the University of Tokyo will definitely be very important. Friends, instead of saying "Farewell", I say "Goodbye".I think I will definitely come to Japan again, and I hope that Japan at that time will be the world of my classmates. Here I wish you health and progress, and hope that you will work side by side with the Chinese youth for the eternal peace between China and Japan.
