Chapter 1 kids on the road

kafka short stories 卡夫卡 2047Words 2018-03-20
I heard the car drive past the garden fence.Sometimes I look through the slight swaying gaps in the leaves to see how the spokes and shafts of the wagon rattle in the heat of summer. The farmers came back from the fields, laughing loudly. This is immoral. This is my parents' garden, and I'm resting among the trees in the garden, sitting on the swing. The movement outside the fence stopped, and the chasing children passed by. The grain carts carried men and women, and they sat on the straw handles, covering the flower beds.Towards evening, I saw a gentleman walking slowly with a cane. Two girls walked towards him arm in arm, greeting him and turning to the nearby grass.

Then, I saw the birds soaring like a spurt, and I followed them with my eyes, watching how they took off in the blink of an eye, and followed them until I no longer thought they were flying, but I I am falling.Out of preference, I clung to the swing's rope and began to sway slightly.Soon, I was shaking more violently, and the evening wind was blowing, which made me feel quite cool. Now, the sky is no longer flying birds, but twinkling stars. By candlelight, while I was eating my supper, I often rested my arms on the board and bit into my bread and butter, when I was tired. The wind blew up the badly torn curtains, and someone passed by the window outside, occasionally holding the curtains with both hands, looking at me carefully and wanting to say a few words to me.Usually the candle is extinguished quickly, and in the dark candle smoke, the mosquitoes and flies gathered are going to circle for a while, and a person outside the window asks me what, so I look at him, and I seem to be looking at a mountain or pure water. Breeze, and there was not much to answer him.

One jumped up on the parapet of the window to announce, while others seemed to have reached the front of the house, I naturally stood up, sighing. The man said, "No, why are you sighing like this? What the hell happened, is there any special situation? Is there some bad luck? Shall we not take a break from it? Is it all over?" Nothing was finished, we ran to the front of the house. - "You're always late." "It's always me" - "It's you, when you don't want to be with us, you stay at home." - "Wicked." - "What? Wicked! What did you say?"

This night we worked head to head like this, regardless of day or night.Soon the buttons on our vests are rubbing against each other like teeth bumping up and down; soon we are chasing each other, always at about the same distance from each other; we are hot like tropical animals. We stomped like the cuirassier knights in ancient wars, head held high, and marched down the alleys, and we continued to advance on the road in this attacking posture. A few people entered the ditches in the street, but they did not Instead of disappearing down the dark slope, we stood like strangers on the field path above, looking down on us.

"You come down!"—"You come up first!"—"You drag us down, don't forget, we are not stupid." ——"Talk about it, you are cowardly! Just come! Come!" ——"Really? You? It's you who want to drag us down? Didn't you look at your bear?" We started to attack, we were hit by our chests, we were thrown into the grass in the ditch, we fell voluntarily, the grass was equally warm everywhere, we didn't know the temperature of the grass, we just felt tired. I rolled to my left side, using my hands as a pillow, and I really wanted to sleep!Though I tried to jack myself up with my protruding jaw, I rolled into a deeper ditch. Then I put my arms on the front, my legs slanted, and threw myself forward, only to fall into another ditch, which was definitely deeper than the previous one, but I didn't want to stop this game at all.I really want to fully relax in the last ditch, lie down and sleep soundly.Especially my knees, I almost forgot about it.I lie down, I lie down and laugh, I have a back problem.I blinked when I saw the black soles of a boy's shoes as he jumped from the slope over my ditch to the road with his elbows on his hips.

The moon was quite high, and a mail van drove by in the light, and a breeze was blowing about, and I felt it in the ditch. The nearby woods had begun to rustle, and it was not so lonely to lie alone. "Where are you?"—"Come here!"—"Everyone come together!" ——"What are you hiding, don't mess around!" — "Do you know the mail train goes by?" — "No! Has it passed?" — "Of course, the mail-coach passed by while you were sleeping." —"Did I sleep? I didn't sleep!" ——"Shut up, someone saw it."

--"I beg you." --"come over." We were running close together, some shaking hands, heads not high enough because everybody was walking down, and some were giving Indian battle cries, and we were running as fast as we had ever seen before. The wind also helped us when we were running fast, and I'm afraid nothing can stop us.When passing someone, we can cross our arms and look around quietly. We stopped at Yexi Bridge, and those who continued to run also returned. The water under the bridge hit the stones and the roots of the plants. It seemed that it was not too late, and none of us jumped on the bridge railing.A train pulled out from behind some bushes in the distance. All the cars were brightly lit, and the glass windows must have been opened. One of us started singing the miner's song, and we all joined in.We sang much faster than the train was moving, we shook our arms, we didn't sing hard enough, but we sang with urgency and enjoyed it.If one person merges his own voice and leads the voices of others, he is like being bitten by a fish, and everyone sings along with him.We sang about the nearby forest and the wanderers far away, and the sound hit our ears. The adults are still moving, and the mothers are making the beds for the night.

When the time came, I kissed the person standing next to me, shook hands with the three people closest to me, and started heading home.Nobody called me.I turned into the first intersection where they lost sight of me.I ran on the field path and entered the woods again.I rushed to the city in the south, and from there we came to our village. "Be careful, there are people there, and they don't sleep." "Then why don't they sleep?" "Because they're not tired." "Why aren't they tired?" "Because they're fools," "How tired a fool must be!"
