The governor, He Lianda, said: "If you win the city without fighting, and the one who is the best, how can you benefit your children and greedy for its goods?爱民命乎！且观其士马犹强，城池尚固，攻之纵克，必彼此俱伤；如困兽犹斗，则成败未可知也。”武曰：“公言是也。”乃受循降，获男女二万口而还，于是剑北皆入于魏。 六月，丁未，齐主还邺；乙卯，复如晋阳。 庚寅，立安南侯方矩为王太子。 齐遣散骑常侍谢季卿来贺平侯景。 衡州刺史王怀明作乱，广州刺史萧勃讨平之。 齐政烦赋重，江北之民不乐属齐，其豪杰数请兵于王僧辩，僧辩以与齐通好，皆不许。秋，七月，广陵侨人朱盛等潜聚党数千人，谋袭杀齐刺史温仲邕，遣使求援于陈霸先，云已克其外城。霸先使告僧辩，僧辩曰：“人之情伪，未易可测，若审克外城，亟须应援，如其不尔，无烦进军。”使未报，霸先已济江，僧辩乃命武州刺史杜崱等助之。会盛等谋泄，霸先因进军围广陵。 八月，魏安康人黄众宝反，攻魏兴，执太守柳桧，进围东梁州。令桧诱说城中，桧不从而死。桧，虬之弟也。太师泰遣王雄与骠骑大将军武川宇文虬讨之。 武陵王纪举兵由外水东下，以永丰侯扌为为益州刺史，守成都，使其子宜都王圆肃副之。 九月，甲戌，司空南平王恪卒。甲申，以王僧辩为扬州刺史。 齐主使告王僧辩、陈霸先曰：“请释广陵之围，必归广陵、历阳两城。”霸先引兵还京口，江北之民从霸先济江者万余口。湘东王以霸先为征北大将军、开府仪同三司、南徐州刺史，征霸先世子昌及兄子顼诣江陵，以昌为员外散骑常侍，顼为领直。宜丰侯循之降魏也，丞相泰许其南还，久而未遣，从容问刘璠曰：“我于古谁比？”对曰：“璠常以公为汤、武，今日所见，曾桓、文之不如！”泰曰：“我安敢比汤、武，庶几望伊、周，何至不如桓、文！”对曰：“齐桓存三亡国，晋文不失信于伐原。”语未竟，泰抚掌曰：“我解尔意，欲激我耳。”乃谓循曰：“王欲之荆，为之益？”循请还江陵，泰厚礼遣之。循以文武千家自随，湘东王疑之，遣使觇察，相望于道；始至之夕，命劫窃其财，及旦，循启输马仗，王乃安之，引入，对泣，以循为侍中、骠骑将军、开府仪同三司。 冬，十月，齐主自晋阳如离石，自黄栌岭起长城，北至社平戍，四百余里，置三十六戍。 戊申，湘东王执湘州刺史王琳于殿中，杀其副将殷晏。 琳本会稽兵家，其姊妹皆入王宫，故琳少在王左右。琳好勇，王以为将帅。琳倾身下士，所得赏赐，不以入家。麾下万人，多江、淮群盗，从王僧辩平侯景，与杜龛功居第一。在建康，恃宠纵暴，僧辩不能禁。僧辩以宫殿之烧，恐得罪，欲以琳塞责，乃密启王，请诛琳。王以琳为湘州，琳自疑及祸，使长史陆纳帅部曲赴湘州，身诣江陵陈谢，谓纳等曰：“吾若不返，子将安之？”咸曰：“请死之。”相泣而别。至江陵，王下琳吏。 辛酉，以王子方略为湘州刺史，又以廷尉黄罗汉为长史，使与太舟卿张载至巴陵，先据琳军。载有宠于王，而御下峻刻，荆州人疾之如仇。罗汉等至琳军，陆纳及士卒并哭，不肯受命，执罗汉及载。王遣宦者陈旻往谕之，纳对旻刳载腹，抽肠以系马足，使绕而走，肠尽气绝。又脔割，出其心，向之拚舞，焚其余骨。以黄罗汉清谨而免之。纳与诸将引兵袭湘州，时州中无主，纳遂据之。 公卿籓镇数劝进于湘东王，十一月，丙子，世祖即皇帝位于江陵，改元，大赦。是日，帝不升正殿，公卿陪列而已。 丁丑，以宜丰侯循为湘州刺史。 己卯，立王太子方矩为皇太子，更名元良。皇子方智为晋安王，方略为始安王，方等之子庄为永嘉王。追尊母阮修容为文宣皇后。 侯景之乱，州郡太半入魏，自巴陵以下至建康，以长江为限，荆州界北尽武宁，西拒硖口，岭南复为萧勃所据，诏令所行，千里而近，民户著籍者，不盈三万而已。 陆纳袭击衡州刺史丁道贵于渌口，破之。道贵奔零陵，其众悉降于纳。上闻之，遣使征司徒王僧辩、右卫将军杜崱、平北将军裴之横与宜丰侯循共讨纳，循军巴陵以待之。侯景之乱，零陵人李洪雅据其郡，上即以为营州刺史。洪雅请讨陆纳，上许之。丁道贵收余众与之俱。纳遣其将吴藏袭击，破之，洪雅等退保空云城，藏引兵围之。顷之，纳请降，求送妻子，上遣陈旻至纳所，纳众皆泣，曰：“王郎被囚，故我曹旻逃罪于湘州，非有它志也。”乃出妻子付旻。旻至巴陵，循曰：“此诈也，必将袭我。”乃密为之备。纳果夜以轻兵继旻后，约至城下鼓噪。十二月，壬午晨，去巴陵十里，众谓已至，即鼓噪，军中皆惊。循坐胡床，于垒门望之，纳乘水来攻，矢下如雨，循方食甘蔗，略无惧色。徐部分将士击之，获其一舰。纳退保长沙。 壬午，齐主还邺；戊午，复如晋阳。
