Chapter 22 Chapter 18 Insidious Information Provision

Dundon sat in his favorite corner, just across from Thieves' Circle, "The Spitting Camel," and watched as the last of the four elves walked into the inn to join his friends. The halfling pulled out a small mirror to check his camouflage, with all the mud smeared in place; Messed and tangled like it hasn't been combed in years. Dun Dun looked longingly at the moon, then checked his chin with his fingers. He felt that although he was not considered to have a beard, it still felt a little prickly to the touch. The halfling took a deep breath, and again, he fought the urge to transform him.In the year he's been with Reshita and the others, he's learned to control the urge, but he's hoping to get things done one day.The moon is very bright tonight.

The locals on the street gave the halfling a wink of affirmation as they passed him. They knew that the master thief lingered here and was about to strike again.Due to his reputation, Dunton had become unable to attack the natives of Calimport Street, but those people knew to keep their mouths shut to strangers about the halfling.Dunton always surrounds himself with the strongest rogues in the city, and it would be a great crime to reveal his disguise to a target. After some time, when the four friends came out of the "spitting camel", the halfling leaned back against the corner of the building.

To Drizzt and his companions, the night in Calimport was as strange as the day they saw.Unlike northern cities, where nightlife is confined to pubs, the streets of Calimport only get busier after sunset.Even humble serfs suddenly exhibited a completely different mysterious and menacing attitude. The only uncrowded area in this alley is the inconspicuous building behind the circle: in front of the Thieves Guild. As in daylight, the loafers sat with their backs against the walls on either side of the house's only door, but now there was an additional guard at the distance on each side. "If Regis is in there, we'll have to find our way in," Catti-brie observed.

"Regis is in there, of course," Drizzt replied, "and the operation we're after must have started with Entreri." "We're here for Regis," Catti-brie reminded him, casting a disappointed look in his direction.Drizzt was quick to clarify what he meant, to satisfy her. "The way to Regis is through the Killer," he said, "and Entreri designed it that way. You heard what he said in Glen Canyon. Entreri won't let us find Regis unless Let's deal with him first." Catti-brie could not deny the logic of the dark elf. When Entreri snatched Regis from the Halls of Mithril, it took a lot of effort for Drizzt to come after him, as if his capture of Regis was just part of a game he was playing with Drizzt portion only.

"Where do we start?" Bruno said angrily in frustration. He had thought that the streets would be quieter, giving them a better chance of completing their mission. He hoped they'd get it over with that night. "Start here," Drizzt said unexpectedly to Bruno. "Familiar with the smells of the streets," the dark elf explained. "Look at the movements of the people and hear their voices. Be prepared for what is to come." "There's still time, Elf!" retorted Bruno snarling, "My heart tells me that while we're standing smelling the stench in the street, Glutton is getting punched on the back. A whip!"

"We don't need to go to Entreri," Wulfgar interjected, following Drizzt's train of thought. "The killer will come to us." Almost at the same time, as if Wulfgar's words reminded them of the danger around them, all four of them turned their heads at the same time, looking out at the bustling crowd in the street.Dark eyes watched them from every corner; everyone who strolled by them glanced sideways at them.Calimport isn't uncomfortable with strangers (it's a trading port, after all) but these four would stand out on a street corner in any city in the Forgotten Realms.Drizzt saw that they were exposing themselves to danger, and decided to move elsewhere. He started walking away from the thieves' circle, and told the others to follow.

Wulfgar, who was last in line, had barely taken a step when a childish cry came from the shadows beside the "Spitting Camel." "Hey," said the voice, "do you need my help?" Confused, Wulfgar took a small step forward, then peered into the shadows.Dun Dun stood there, looking like a disheveled little human boy. "What are you looking for?" Bruenor stepped over to Wulfgar's side. Wulfgar pointed to the corner. "What are you looking for?" Bruno asked again, now noticing a small shadowy figure. "Do you need my help?" Dun Dun repeated, walking out of the darkness.

"Go!" Bruno snapped angrily, waving his hands. "Just a little boy. Go away, little boy. We don't have time to play with you!" He took Wulfgar's arm and turned to leave. "I can help you with your affairs." Dun Dun said behind their backs. Bruenor walked on, Wulfgar walking beside him, but it was Drizzt who stopped this time, noticing the delay of his companions and hearing what the boy said. "Just a little boy!" Bruenor explained to the dark elf as he walked up to him. "Street boy," Drizzt corrected, and started walking back around Bruenor and Wulfgar. "His eyes and ears rarely miss or miss what's around him."

"What can you get for us?" Drizzt asked Dundun in a low voice after walking near the building and out of sight of the curious crowd. Dun Dun shrugged. "There's a lot to steal; a lot of merchants are in town today. What do you want?" Bruenor, Wulfgar, and Catti-brie surrounded Drizzt and the boy far away in defensive positions, their eyes looking elsewhere but their ears straining to hear the suddenly interesting conversation. Drizzt squatted down, making Dunton and his eyes look at the building at the bottom of the ring. "Puck's house," Dundon said casually, "is the most heavily guarded house in Calimport."

"But it has a weakness," Drizzt said hastily. "All houses will have it." Dun Dun replied calmly, and he played perfectly the egotistical man who survived the treacherous street. "Have you ever gone in?" "Maybe." "Have you ever seen a hundred gold coins?" Dun Dun's eyes lit up, and he deliberately shifted his weight from one foot to the other. "Take him back to his room," said Catti-brie. "Talking here will attract too many people's attention." Dun Dun was about to agree, but he gave Drizzt a warning with a cold stare before declaring, "I'm worth a hundred gold coins!"

When they returned to the room, Drizzt and Bruenor gave Dunton a lot of gold coins first, and the halfling told the secret way to the guild. "Even thieves," declared Dunton, "don't know the way!" The group of friends huddled together, anxious to hear the details. Dun Dun made the whole operation sound simple. too easy. Drizzt stood up and turned away, keeping the informant from knowing he was smiling.Didn't they just talk about Strathriel meeting with them?Just minutes before the boy let them know the shortcut easily. "Wulfgar, take his shoes off," Drizzt said. His three friends turned to him curiously.Dun Dun squirmed restlessly on the chair. "Take off his shoes," Drizzt said again, and he turned back and pointed at Dun Dun's feet.Having been a halfling friend for so many years, Bruno immediately guessed what the dark elf was thinking. Before Wulfgar had a reaction, he grabbed Dunton's left boot and pulled it off. Hairy feet - the feet of a halfling. Dun Dun shrugged helplessly, then collapsed onto the chair. The whole meeting went exactly as Entreri had thought it would. "He said he could help with our affairs," said Catti-brie sarcastically, twisting Dudton's words into malicious intent. "Who sent you?" Bruno growled. "Entreri," Wulfgar replied in place of Dunton, "he works for Entreri and was sent to lead us into the trap he set." Wulfgar leaned forward, looking condescendingly. After a while, his huge body blocked the candlelight. Bruno pushed the Savage away and took his place.Wulfgar's eyes were childish, and could not have been as majestic as a dwarven warrior with a pointed nose, red beard, and a broken helmet. "So, you sneaky little thing," Bruno snarled into Dun Dun's face, "now we've got to deal with your stinking tongue! If you dare to wag your tongue, I'll cut it off! " Dun Dun's face turned pale with fright (he did this action just right) and began to tremble visibly. "Don't get so excited," Catti-brie said to Bruno, this time she put on a white face, "you've scared the little one enough." Bruno pushed her away and turned away so that Dundon could not see him wink at her. "Scare him?" snapped the dwarf. He raised the ax to his shoulders. "It's not my plan to scare him!" "Wait a minute, wait a moment!" begged Dundon, groveling to the extent that only a halfling could do it. "I just did what the killer told me, and he paid me." "You know Entreri?" Wulfgar asked. "Everyone knows Entreri," Dundun replied. "Everyone in Calimport obeys Streri's orders," "Forget Entreri!" Bruenor yelled at him. "My ax won't give him a chance to hurt you!" "Do you think you can kill Entreri?" Dundon retorted, though he knew what Bruenor really meant. "Entreri can't hurt a corpse, can he?" Bruenor replied grimly. "My ax will cut him down beside your body!" "It's you he wants," Tonton said to Drizzt, hoping to calm things down a bit. Drizzt nodded, but remained silent. In this unusual meeting, something was unusual. "I don't help either side," Dundon didn't see Drizzt's reaction, so he argued to Bruno, "I just do what I have to do in order to survive." "If you're going to live, you've got to show us the way in," Bruno said, "the safe way." "That place is heavily guarded," Dun Dun shrugged, "there is no safe way at all." Bruno walked closer, and the scowl on his face became more obvious. "But if I had to try," the halfling said without thinking, "I should go down the sewer." Bruno turned and looked around at his friends. "That seems right," Wulfgar remarked. Drizzt looked at the halfling for a moment longer, hoping to find some clues in the piercing eyes. "That's right." The dark elf said immediately. "He's got his head," said Catti-brie, "but what are we going to do with him? Take him?" "Yes," Bruno said with a wicked look in his eyes, "he leads the way!" "No," Drizzt replied, to the surprise of all his companions, "the halfling is only doing what he was told. Let him go." "Send him to run and tell Entreri what happened?" Wulfgar said. "Entreri is not considerate," Drizzt replied. He looked into Dun Dun's eyes, not to let the halfling see that he had guessed that this was a trick of a trick, "and will not forgive people." "I still think he should be taken," Bruno said. "Let him go," Drizzt said quietly, "trust me." Bruno snorted, put the ax down, and complained as he went to open the door.Wulfgar exchanged worried glances with Catti-brie, but still stepped out of the way. Dun Dun ran away without hesitation, but when he reached the door, Bruno stepped in front of him. "If I ever see your face again," threatened the dwarf, "or any face you make up, I'll cut you in two!" Dundon slipped out and back into the hall, never taking his eyes off the dangerous dwarf, and then he bolted across the hall, shaking his head in wonder at how correctly Entreri had described the whole meeting, at how well the killer understood it. Groups of friends, especially dark elves. Drizzt guessed the truth of the meeting, knowing that Bruenor's final threat would have little effect on the cunning halfling.Dun Dun has been lying to them, but did not show any clues. But when Bruno, who was still frowning, turned back to the room, Drizzt nodded in agreement, because even if the dark elves knew that these threats were useless, at least it would give Bruno a sense of security. At Drizzt's suggestion, they all took a nap. There was so much noise in the street, it was impossible for them to open the lid and get into the sewer without being noticed. After the night gradually passed, the crowd would still disperse, and the guards would change from dangerous thieves at night to farmers during the day. Only Drizzt could not sleep. He sat with his back against the door, listening for anyone's approaching footsteps, and then fell into a state of tranquility due to the rhythmic breathing of his partners. He looked down at the mask hanging around his neck. With such a simple lie, he is free to travel all over the world. But will he later fall into his own web of deceit and get trapped?Without acknowledging his identity, can he gain true freedom? Drizzt looked at Catti-brie, who was smiling peacefully on the twin bed in her room. There can be wisdom in innocence, and some truth can still be seen in an ideal view that is not polluted. He can't let her down. Drizzt sensed that it was getting darker outside. The moon has set.He went to the window and peered out into the street.People who are accustomed to living at night are still wandering, but their number has decreased a lot at this moment, and the night is coming to an end.Drizzt woke his companions; they could not pay the price of any delay. They stretch to shake off sleepiness, check their gear, and hit the streets. Thieves' Circle has several iron grille-shaped covers that lead to the sewers. It seems that the purpose of the design is not to drain the stagnant water brought by the city's sudden storm, but only to prevent the filth from below from running up.The group of friends chose an alley behind the hotel, away from the main street, but not far from the guild, so they might be able to find their way without too many twists and turns. "Boys can open this lid," said Bruenor, waving Wulfgar over there.Wulfgar bent down and took hold of the iron cover. "Not yet," Drizzt whispered, looking around for any suspicious eyes.He told Catti-brie to go back down the alley around the circle, and then he rushed to the darker side.Satisfied that no one was there, he ran back to Bruno. The dwarf looked at Catti-brie, who nodded too, to show that everything was all right. "Come on, boy," Bruno said, "don't make too much noise," Wulfgar clung to the grating tightly, taking a deep breath for balance. His huge arms were swollen with blood from the exertion, and an "uh" came out of his mouth.Even so, Tie Ge remained motionless. Wulfgar looked at Bruenor in disbelief, then redoubled his efforts, now even flushed.Tiege groaned in protest, but only a few inches off the ground. "Something's pulling it down," Bruno said as he bent over for a closer look. Suddenly there was a "clang" sound from below as the chain snapped. This was the only thing that warned Bruno. The cover was pulled up suddenly, and Wulfgar flew backwards. The iron cover grazed Bruenor's forehead, knocking his helmet away and sending him slumping to the ground.Wulfgar slammed into the wall of the hotel with a loud bang, still clutching the iron cover. "You flying pig head..." Bruenor began to complain, but both Drizzt and Catti-brie came to help him, and immediately reminded him that his current mission needed to be kept secret. "Why do they put chains on the sewer covers?" Catti-brie asked. Wulfgar dusted himself off. "Still tied from the inside," he added. "It means something inside wants to be sealed off from the city outside." "We'll find out soon," Drizzt commented. He crouched by the hole and slipped his foot in. "Prepare the torches," he said, "if everything is all right, I'll call you down again." Catti-brie saw the hungry light in the dark elf's eyes, and she looked at him worriedly. "For Regis," Drizzt assured her, "and only for Regis." Then he disappeared into the darkness. It was as dark as the passages in his unlit home. The other three heard the splash of water as he fell, and then there was complete silence. They had a long anxious moment. "Light the torches," Bruenor whispered to Wulfgar. Catti-brie stopped him by grabbing Wulfgar's arm. "You have to have faith in him," she said to Bruno. "Too long," murmured the dwarf, "too quiet." Catti-brie continued to hold Wulfgar's arm for a moment, until Drizzt's soft voice came up. "No problem," said the dark elf, "come down quickly." Bruenor took the torch from Wulfgar. "You go last," he said, "remember to put the lid on gently. We don't have to tell the world where we've been!"    When the group of partners entered the sewer with torches, the first thing that caught their attention was the iron chain that originally tied the iron cover. The chain was undoubtedly new, and was attached to a box on the sewer wall. "I don't think we're the only ones here," Bruno whispered. Drizzt looked around, as restless as the dwarf. He took the mask off his face, and now he was a drow again in an environment befitting a drow. "I'll lead," he said, "and I'll be at the forefront of the torchlight. Always ready to fight." He began to walk softly, stepping on the edge of the slow-moving black water in the center of the tunnel. Bruenor went second with the torch, followed by Catti-brie and Wulfgar. The savage had to stoop so that his head did not touch the roof of the dirty tunnel. When the mouse saw the strange light, it squeaked and ran away in a hurry, while the dirtier things hid quietly at the bottom of the water, using the water as a cover. The tunnel twists and turns, and every few feet there will be a fork in the road, like a maze. The sound of the running water only made them more confused. Leading them on a certain road, they found that the sound of the water was louder at their feet, and then found that the sound of the water was louder on the other side of the road. Bruno shook his head to get rid of the distracting thoughts in his mind. He ignored the feces and stench, and focused on following the dark figure rushing forward in front of the fire.He came to an intersection of many roads, and out of the corner of his eye, he saw a figure suddenly appearing beside him. Just when he turned around and wanted to follow, he found that Drizzt was still directly in front of him. "Ready!" cried Bruenor, throwing the torch on the dry ground beside him, and took up the ax and shield. His alertness saved them all, for in less than a second two cloaked figures appeared in the side tunnel, swords held aloft, teeth gleaming from beneath twitching ratwhiskers. They were the size of a man, dressed in human clothes, and carried swords.Their other form is indeed human and not annoying, but at night they take on this rodent form. They walk like humans, but with some extra decorations (long nose, brown ruff, pink tail) like ditch rats. Catti-brie fired the first arrow, flying over Bruenor's helmet. The silver arrow illuminated the side tunnel like lightning, allowing them to see more evil figures running towards them behind them. The sound of splashing water behind forced Wulfgar to turn to face the horde of oncoming ratmen. He dug his heels deep into the mud, and at the same time picked up Aegis-fang, readying himself. "They lie in wait for us here, Elf!" Bruenor yelled. Drizzt had already come to the same conclusion. At the first cry of the dwarf he moved away from the firelight to gain the advantage of hiding in the darkness. As soon as he turned, he saw two figures facing each other, and before he had lifted the flash high enough to see their hairy brows, he had guessed their sinister nature as ratmen. But the Ratmen hadn't guessed in advance what it would be standing in front of them.Maybe they thought the enemy was in the light of the torches, so they were startled, but the main thing that made them turn and run was the dark skin of the dark elves. Drizzt didn't miss the opportunity, and he felled the skaven with a flurry of knives before they could recover from the shock. Then the dark elves hid in the shadows again, looking for a way to sneak up on the raiders from behind. Wulfgar stretched out his hand and swung Aegis-fang repeatedly, keeping his attackers out of reach. When the skaven got too close, the warhammer would knock them out of the way, knocking a chunk of the sewer wall down with each blow. But when the ratmen recognized the power of the barbarians, they were reluctant to charge directly up, and all Wulfgar could do was trap them, and that could only be done until his arms failed. Behind Wulfgar, Bruenor and Catti-brie did a much better job than him.Catti-brie's magic bow (shooting arrows on top of the dwarves) wiped out several rows of ratmen approaching, and the few who came to Bruno lost their balance because of avoiding the arrows, and it was easy to become a dwarf. Settled prey. However, the numbers of the two sides are too different, which is very unfavorable to this group of partners. As long as they make a mistake, the price will be very heavy. The ratmen kept laughing and spitting at them, backing away from Wulfgar.Wulfgar, realizing that he had to find a way to start the fight to the death, took a big step forward. The ratmen dispersed suddenly, fleeing deeper into the tunnel, and at the end of the torchlight Wulfgar saw one of them raising its crossbow and firing. The giant instinctively leaned his back against the wall, and was so agile that he missed the shot, but Catti-brie, who was facing the other side, didn't see the arrow coming. She felt a sudden burst of pain, followed by a profuse flow of hot blood from the side of her head.A darkness hovered around the edge of her vision, and she passed out and leaned against the wall.    Drizzt walked through the dark passages as silently as death. He didn't take the flash out of its sheath, because he didn't want others to see the light, so he used another magic knife to lead the way. He's stuck in a maze, but he's confident he can find his way back to his friends.Yet every time he walked into a tunnel, he always saw a fire at the end on the other side, indicating that more skaven were coming to join the fray. The darkness was big enough for the elf to hide in, but Drizzt was always disturbed by the feeling that someone was following him, even anticipating where he was going. There were dozens of roads around him, but his options dwindled, as ratmen appeared at every turn. With every step he took, the winding path to his friends widened, but Drizzt soon knew he had no choice but to move forward. The ratmen filled the main passage behind and followed him. Drizzt stopped in the shadow of a recess, surveying the area around him carefully, recalculating the distance he had traveled, and noticing that the passageway behind him was now ablaze with fire.Obviously, there were not as many ratmen as he had expected, and the ratmen he saw at every corner were probably the same group that came out of the original tunnel, walking the same path as Drizzt, and whenever Drizzt When they saw a new road, several of them turned to the other end of that road. But it was no consolation to Drizzt to find the number of ratmen. He has now proved his suspicions right.A group of ratmen followed him.    Wulfgar turned and ran towards his fallen love, his Catti-brie, but the Ratman followed immediately. Now rage drove the brawny savage. He charged into the ranks of his enemies, smashing them to pieces with his warhammer, and if anyone came near him, he single-handedly wrung the fellow's neck. The Skaven did stab him a few times as he retreated, but the small wounds did nothing to slow the angry savage. He stepped over the corpses of those he had killed, grinding the heels of his boots heavily over them. The other skaven fell in fear, not daring to block his way. At the end of their lines, the crossbowman was struggling to load his arrows, a task made difficult by his inability to take his eyes off the approaching barbarian, and knowing that he was the focus of the mighty giant's wrath. And become more difficult. The ratmen in front of Bruenor backed away, giving him time to turn to Catti-brie.He bent over the young woman, and when he picked up a handful of her thick auburn hair, his face was blue because it was stained with blood from her beautiful face. Catti-brie looked up at him with blank eyes. "One more inch and I'm dead." She blinked, then smiled. Bruno knelt down to inspect the wound and found that his adopted daughter was right. The arrow hit her, but only a bruise. "I'm fine," insisted Catti-brie, and she began to get to her feet. Bruno wouldn't let her get up. "Not yet." He said softly. "The battle isn't over yet," Catti-brie replied, still trying to get her feet upright.Bruenor asked her to see Wulfgar on the other side of the tunnel, and the pile of corpses beside him. "This is our chance," he said with a laugh, "to let him think you're down." Catti-brie bit her lip in surprise when she saw this.Once the Whack-a-rat man was on the ground, Wulfgar was still charging forward, hammering hard at the unfortunate ones who didn't escape his path. Then a sound from the other direction turned Catti-brie's attention back.Due to the temporary cessation of fire from her magic bow, the ratmen in front are back again. "These are mine," Bruno told her. "Lie down and don't get up!" "If you get into trouble—" "Come if I need you," Bruno promised. "But don't get up for now! Give the boy some motivation to fight!"    Drizzt tried to backtrack the way he had come, but the ratmen approached him quickly from the tunnels.Soon there was only one path left for him to choose from, and it was a wide, waterless passage in the side, just opposite to the path he wanted to take. The ratmen were closing in fast, and if he was in the main tunnel, he would have to face them in several directions at once.He slipped into the passage, his back pressed against the wall. Two skaven ran to the entrance of this tunnel, peered into the darkness, and called the third skaven to bring a torch. But the light they waited for was not the yellow light of the torches, but the blue light of the flashes unsheathed. Before they could draw their weapons to defend themselves, Drizzt was at their side, stabbing a skaven in the chest, spinning the other knife, and slashing another skaven's neck in an arc. As they fell, the light of the torches enveloped them, revealing only the drow standing there, blood dripping from both knives. The ratmen closest to him began to tremble; some dropped their weapons and started to flee, but more swarmed up and filled all the entrances of the passages in this area. The absolute superiority in numbers gave these ratmen courage. They looked at each other for support, and slowly approached Drizzt step by step. Drizzt considered rushing through one of the small groups to break out of the encirclement, but the ratmen surrounded every passageway at least twice, and some even had three or four.No matter how good his sword skills are and how agile his movements are, he still can't rush out without being attacked from behind. He rushed back to the side aisle, summoned a dark enchantment to seal the entrance, and then jumped behind the enchanted area, posing for an attack. Seeing Drizzt disappear down the passage suddenly, the skaven sped forward, stopping abruptly as they turned into an impenetrable blackness. At first they thought it was their own torches that had gone out, but the darkness was so deep that they soon saw that it was in fact the spell of the Dark Elves. They regrouped in the main passage and walked in cautiously. Even Drizzt, with his nightvision, could not see through the darkness he had cast himself, but he posed on the other side of the darkness and recognized the point of the swords of the first two rat men who came in.They hadn't even come out of the darkness yet when the dark elves knocked their swords away and changed the angle so that the scimitars penetrated their bodies.Their screams of pain sent the other skaven stumbling back into the main passage, and gave Drizzt more time to think about his situation.    The Crossbowman knew his time was approaching when his last two companions sprinted desperately to either side to escape the enraged giant.Clumsily loading the arrow one last time, he raised the bow. But Wulfgar was already too close. The barbarian grabbed the crossbow directly, and then yanked it from the Ratman's hand. Due to the force, it broke into two pieces when it hit the wall. The Rat Man tried to flee, but Wulfgar's savage stare held him back.Wulfgar could only watch in horror as he grabbed Aegis-fang in both hands. Wulfgar's blow was unbelievably quick. The Rat Man hadn't even noticed that the fatal blow had begun. It just suddenly felt that the top of its head had exploded. The floor rose swiftly to meet him; he was dead before he landed on top of the dung, and Wulfgar, with tears in his eyes, pounded the shattered corpse until it was a bloody mass until. Splashed with blood, filth, and black water, Wulfgar finally collapsed against the cave wall.As soon as he let himself out of the rage that filled his heart, he heard a fight behind him, and he turned to see Bruenor fight off two skavens with several rows of fellow skaven behind them. Catti-brie lay against the wall behind the dwarf. This scene rekindled the fire in Wulfgar's heart. "Tempas!" he yelled at his God of War, and then stomped on the dung and ran towards the tunnel in the opposite direction. The skaven facing Bruenor stumbled over each other in their eagerness to flee, giving the dwarf another chance to chop down two more—a task he was glad to have accomplished. The Ratmen hurriedly fled back into the maze of tunnels. Wulfgar wanted to retaliate by running after them and cutting down each of the ratmen, but Catti-brie stood up and stopped him.She jumped up, causing him to slide aside in surprise, her arms wrapped tightly around his neck, and kissed him more passionately than he could have imagined. He held her body in his hands in stunned confusion until the smile took all other emotion from his face. Then he hugged her tightly, wanting to give her another kiss. Bruno pulled them away. "Where are the elves?" he reminded them.He picked up the torch, which was now half covered in mud and burning weakly, and led them on down the passage. They dare not turn into the side passage for fear of getting lost. The main passage was the quickest shortcut, and wherever it took them, they could only hope for a glimpse of a sight or a sound that would lead them to Drizzt. What they found, however, was a door. "The guild?" Catti-brie asked in a low voice. "What else is possible?" Wulfgar replied. "Only a thief's house has a door to the sewer." In a secret room above the door, Entreri was watching the three of them curiously. He'd known something was amiss earlier that night, when many ratmen had started congregating in the sewers.Entreri wished they would leave for the city, but it was clear that the ratmen intended to stay. Then these three people appeared in front of the door, but the dark elf was nowhere to be seen. Entreri rested his chin on his palm, considering his next move. Bruno looked at the door curiously.Nailed at human eye level is a small wooden box.The dwarf felt that there was no time for guessing games, so he reached out and opened the box, and peered carefully at what was inside. As the dwarf saw the contents, his face contorted with more confusion.
