张世杰走了进去，杨紫云脸上的血污已经被擦洗干净。张世杰一看见她，如遭重击，傻呆呆站在那里。高连升碰碰他，指指另外一个人。张世杰的目光在朱国柱脸上稍作停留，转身出了窝棚，来到赵九思身边，问道：“你早知道他们是谁。为什么不早说？”
“我是昨天到信阳之后才知道的。”张世杰气鼓鼓道：“你让游击队把人带走吧。”
“他们要能到游击队手里，也能到新四军手里，还费这么大事找你干吗？对外，只能说你们送完货顺手参加了战斗，救了人。还有，他们的身份只能是军统的谍报人员！你把他们送到太白顶杨开泰处养伤，再带个口信给朱家，就说把他们的三少爷给救了。”张世杰仍转不过弯儿，他说：“不就是两个国民党的谍报人员吗？至于吗？你知不知道为他们死了多少人？”
“刚才的战斗我也参加了。张世杰，告诉你吧，日本人攻打南阳的情报，就是他们送出来的。他们为此付出的代价，你也看到了。组织上做出这种决定，证明他们对我们的事业……”
高连升、曹镇河和卫生员走了出来。卫生员说道：“大队长，他们两个暂时没有生命危险，不过身体很虚弱，特别是那个女的，鬼子太狠了，皮鞭沾了水，衣服都被抽进肉里，得尽快把他们送到条件好的地方，要是感染了就不好办了。”
“高连升，收拾东西，马上出发。”张世杰一摆手，几滴血珠子滴在一块石头上。卫生员见状，说道：“等一等，这位同志，你的胳膊受伤了，我给你包扎一下。”张世杰把一条毛巾缠在手臂上，说道：“擦破一点皮，回去再处理。赵老板，四匹马换你两副担架。连升，你先到前面的村子雇辆马车。”
太阳已经从炽烈的白色变成柔和的淡黄色，从山峰的缝隙照着桐柏山弯曲的大道。五辆自行车在前面开道，中间是一辆宽大的马车，后面还有几辆自行车。高连升在马车前面和车夫坐在一起。马车里，杨紫云的担架下面铺着厚厚的被子，身上也盖着被子，朱国柱则躺在光光的担架上。张世杰坐在两副担架之间，看着杨紫云伤痕累累的面容，情不自禁地抚摸一下她的额头，眼泪止不住流了下来。
朱国柱在担架上动了一下，口里叫着：“紫云，紫云？”张世杰抹掉脸上的泪水，转过脸来，看着他。朱国柱睁眼看见张世杰，吃了一惊道：“是你，紫云呢？”他顺着张世杰的眼光看过去，挣扎着要去拉杨紫云的手，又缩回来，说道：“她，她没事吧？”张世杰眼睛看着车顶的苇席顶棚说：“你的夫人只是暂时昏迷。”
朱国柱问：“世杰，是你救了我们？”
“碰巧罢了。连升，高连升，停车！”张世杰忽然抬起身，朝外面吆喝着。高连升叫道：“停下，大家都停下。”
车停了下来，张世杰跳下车，走到刘金声旁边，说道：“自行车给我，你把他们送到太白顶去。”他想骑上车，受伤的胳膊一软，车子摔倒了。高连升忙过来扶起车子，说道：“二哥，我带着你。”刘金声上了马车，说道：“你们几个，跟着二少爷。”
自行车队分成两队，在一个三岔路口朝着不同的方向而去。
