地震台里，何亮和周海光也不由惊恐地大叫起来，何亮虽然是专业的地震预测人员，可他也从没经历过这样的地震，他虽然也知道一些防震的知识，甚至编写过防震的宣传品，曾经给人讲解防震的常识，但那充其量也不过是把桌子放在床头，用棉被裹住身体等等，中国没有经历过这样的地震，中国的地震工作者也没有这方面的知识，只是在那恐怖的瞬间，何亮明确地看到了地震的震波如何象大海的波涛一样涌动，他大喊着：“震波，波长五十米，波高一米，波向偏东。”
周海光扑过去，把他狠狠地推向门口，他象任何普通人一样，在危难来临时首先想到的是逃生的门。就在这时，屋顶整块地垮了下来，周海光被压在沉重的楼板下面。
何亮也被压在门前。
何亮高声喊着：“海光，海光。”
可是周海光没有声音，他被砸昏了。
唐山火车站，候车大厅的高大屋顶整个压了下来，所有侯车的旅客来不及躲避奔跑，就被压在了下面，一对躲在角落里偷偷亲吻的年轻恋人，还没来得及由火热的激情里回过神来，就被砸死了，至死他们的嘴唇也没有分开。
银行的大楼狂怒般跳了几下，也轰然倒下。
素云在剧烈的震动中惊醒了，她本能地去摸身边的小妹，可是小妹在第一次的震动中就被甩到了床下，甩到桌子的旁边，桌子挡住了垮下来的屋顶，桌子救了她，可是她的头上也被撕开一个很大的口子，血，哗哗地淌下来，她不知道疼，她只知道害怕，她象一只小兽一样喊出了一声妈妈。素云听到了女儿的喊叫，她要寻声去救自己的女儿，可是整个大楼倒塌了，她被砸在了床的下面。
文秀也被压在了床下，幸亏床腿挡住了落下的楼板，给她留下一个狭小的空间，狭小得仅能容下她的身子，她一动不能动，就象被活埋在那里。周海光和杨文燕走了之后，屋子里只剩了唐生和文秀两个人。两个人都没有什么话说。“咱早睡吧，我也困了。”文秀有些失望。唐生曾经说：“你困了，就睡，可我睡哪儿呢？”文秀指了指房子：“隔壁是现成的床，你就睡那儿。”唐生说：“那……我就睡了。”唐生说着走出文秀的屋子，文秀送了出去。“秀姐……”唐生站住，回头看着她，眼睛里有很多话。文秀意识到什么，浑身一颤，也不说话，她期待着唐生说一句什么。文秀答应着，也不动。唐生却一转身走了。文秀有些失望地轻轻叹了一口气。她倒有些希望这个时候唐生不顾一切地扑过来，把她搂进怀里，吻她，甚至把她抱进屋里，放在床上。她当然会拒绝他，可她会在拒绝中享受一种说不出的安慰。可是唐生没有这么做，她分明从他的眼睛中看出了他想这么做。“他还是太小了。”她在心里对自己说着，轻轻掩上门，走到窗前，独自看着天上的月亮，心里有一种没着没落的感觉，象在半天里悬着。她想把唐生叫过来，和她一起在窗前看着月亮，一直看到天亮。她轻轻走出门去，却听到唐生的屋里已经传出轻微的鼾声。她又走回屋里，对着窗外的月亮，掉下两滴泪来，不知道为什么落泪，只是想落，她依在床上，让自己的思绪朝着月亮飞去。
唐生是机敏的，当第一次震动来临时，他本能地一越而起，他到了窗前，只差一秒钟，他就可以越出窗外，可是大地震来得更迅速，大地震不给他这一秒钟，落下的楼板把他砸倒在窗前，他的双腿被砸在巨大的楼板下面，幸好他的上身还露在外面，他的头上几块楼板交叉着摞在一起，给他的上身留下一个活动的空间，他的上身还能动，他大声喊着文秀。可是浓重的尘埃立刻呛得他再也张不开口。
在监狱里，黑子和老米压在了一起。
他们本来是隔着一道铁门的，黑子坐监，老米值班，可是当牢房整个倒塌之后，他们就没有了分隔，他们竟然压在了一起。黑子懵懵
